Just finished replacing the passenger side window on my 1998 Ranger. Took a little over two hours, and I saved a ton of money on labor, not to mention the glass company wouldn't have been able to get to it for a couple of weeks. Being pretty handy with tools, I decided to have a go myself, and I cannot tell you how much this video helped! You told of things I never would have been able to figure out myself. I followed your instructions to the letter, and it happened just the way you said. Thanks again!
Thomas is one of the best! Great detail and explanation Terry. I broke a window in an old truck once. My dad made me apologize then help him replace it. I was much more careful how I treated other people's property after that.
Sorry about the window bud but the one who broke it seems like they had a very educational learning experience. And sometimes that's just what some of us need thank you for the video it helped me with my truck
Great detailed job. I went step by step replacing my passenger side window watching this video and everything came out great. Thank You for the video my friend.
Got the replacement glass today, watched your video, took me 2 hrs to replace the broken window on my 1997 Ranger, thank you very much! Greetings from Mesquite, TX, keep up the good work!
I have watched a lot of how-to vid's. This video is excellent. You speak slowly explaining the steps taken and show closeups of what a viewer needs to see. I'm impressed with your teaching skills too. I just enjoyed this video from beginning to end. I also liked you kept rolling through the panel reattachment. It shows what can be difficult and how to get past it.
I got a busted out drivers window on my 07 ranger. They are manual roll up windows too. Hopefully the process isn’t too different but I’m gonna give it shot using your video as a reference. Thanks for the upload.
You did one fine job here my friend; very well explained ... now I am ready to tackle installing my window which I shattered mowing a lawn . Keep up the great work .
Very good video Terry ! I wish I would have had this video last year when I had to replace my driver's side door glass on my 94 Ranger . Mower threw a rock through it. Thomas has a great channel and so do you !!
N Smith Wow Norman, what are the odds of us having the same truck and year. And both of us having the driver glass broken. Yes, Thomas has a great channel! 😀👍
Thanks so much for the vid! My bf and I were able to switch out the window someone stole on my truck no problem. We both enjoyed the way you explained everything in detail!
This is a great video. So glad I watched it before attempting to change out the broken glass in my 1994 Ranger. I would have broken the door clips I'm sure and would not have figured out how to take the plastic spacers apart that hold the glass in place. Thank you very much!
94 and no rust . Terry you pretty much took the door apart.LOL And it wasn't swampy hot eh :) Thomas is by far the most popular tech on youtube that will go out of his way to help us all. Nice shoutout buddy .
STEVE ROB REVIEWS It wasn’t too hot Steve on the day I did this job, but it’s really starting to warm up. And Thomas he is a great guy and deserves a shout out once in a while. 😀👍
Thank you for the video. I respect the level of detail that you observe during the process to ensure everything fits correctly on reinstall. I also appreciate the confirmation for the rivet alternative, as I was kind of dreading the idea of purchasing a riveter for one time use! God bless you friend!
Nice work👍 as a mechanic and body man, I know that Ford's especially are problematic to work on,( lots of working blind) but you made it look pretty easy. It all requires patients and thought, careful planning to go smoothly
Great video, very informative. I'm doing a cab swap, but keeping my original doors. The windows in the doors I'm removing have nice tint on the glass that matches the rest of the replacement cab windows. Thanks to this video I should have no problem swapping the door glass.
Terry, great video as always really enjoy the way you explain and the details you put out and love to see more about diagnoses videos using scope and circuit design and operation.cheeeeers my friend
Thank goodness for neighborhood kids, we would miss endless opportunities to fix things that rarely break with normal use. I'm surprised to find rivets, they must be tricky to drill out if you have to take a good window out, and of course finding a replacement is a chore. I've never had to replace a window before, it was fun to see it from start to finish. Gotta love roller windows, ha ha.
spelunkerd yep Dave, the kids can keep us busy. Oh, the window regulator has rivets too. Yes, Ford has discontinued the glass. Thanks for watching and sharing a comment! 😀👍
I've been fighting to get those spacers to not break when I rivet it together. Window was replaced with nuts and make shift bushings so I didn't know which way the spacers went. Found out I was installing backwards. Thank you so much...
Great video like explaining to an 8 year old. Watched it now I know how it came out, went to the yard for the glass again, now watch again to put it back in, thanks again.
I was gonna pay someone to replace my passenger side window but I’m confident enough to do this myself! Thanks for the great video! I got a 2000 ford ranger
Instead of the spray glue I used red tuck tape for vabour barriers. I did that about five years ago. I have the same window busted again. I watched your Video, thank -you very much. All I have done Is cut the tape to remove that barrier. I think If I had used that spray adhesive things would have been tougher for me second time around. cheers
From the sound of the birds chirping in the background Spring is in full force around your way Terry. Real nice job with the details you gave and the fix. How nice of the neighbor kid to give you a PIA! Was Chaos hanging out with him? lol Take care and stay cool.
HaHa! Since Chaos now knows where I live, I’m sure he was edging that boy on 😀 Yep, the birds gave me company that morning and it’s finally starting to warm up. You take care too Glen and you stay cool also. 😀👍
Thomas EXOVCDS You’re quite welcome Thomas and always a pleasure to mention your channel. And thank you very much for the mug as I use it quite often! 😀👍
Great video and exactly what is going on on my 2002 Ranger rear door. I can see the cable 'jacket' comming out when I pull the handle, looks like I only need the cable 'ferrals' do fix the issue, if I push the upper cable seath back in with handle open the door untaches. Thanks again!
Doing a 2000 and the screws were slightly different to remove the panel but not horrible. We got a used window that had the bracket on it. I was hoping to not remove the rivets but im not sure how they got it out of the old truck. I don't think it's gonna fit down the slit. We're also ran into a problem. The bottom bolt for the track wont come loose. It just spins and there's nothing to grab ahold of so we can crack the nut off. Ant help would be appreciated
Where did you get your glass from ? I need a driver side glass for my 95 ranger. Thinking about going to a salvage yard but depending on cost I may order one. Thanks for this video. Best one yet !!
Hi, I'm going to replace my passenger window in my 95 Ranger. Thank you for showing me how! Could you please tell me length of 1/4" bolts that replace rivets?
At 7:35, the part on the back side of the window bracket with the metal face is called a RETAINER and the other side of it that is bewtweeb the glass and bracket us called a SPACER. Ford does still sell them and they're cheap. The retainer part number is D9AZ-54234A46-AA. The spacer part number is F8VZ-54234A44-AA. If you have a Lowe's store near by you can get packs of nuts & bolts for the 2 holes in the glass to secure the bracket. The bolts are a pack of 5 part number 880002 Hillman brand. They are 1/4 - 20 x 1. The nuts, which are flanged hex nuts, will be a pack of 3, part number 880150. 1/4 - 20. I used this hardware when replacing the regulator on my 2003 Ranger Edge driver window on December 7th, 2018. Mine are power windows, but I found this video to be a good guide.
Terry... you're too much, with all the Thomas references... thank you! Great video on how to swap out a window! I hate broken glass... it get everywhere! The vapor barrier looked to be of good quality! The stuff that VW used in the 90's was a pain in the butt to remove and glue back into place! Did you get a new camera? What model... great video quality!
Thomas EXOVCDS You deserve the shout-out as you’ve got a great channel! And you’re right that the glass goes everywhere 😀 As for the video quality, it’s the same camera. I changed the video mode of the camera to progressive mode at 60fps and using a different encoding method in Vegas Pro to match the camera settings. 😜👍
Received replacement window with the mount still attached. Couldn't get it to go through the top. Is my only option to drill out the rivets? This video is super informative btw. Great job.
Nicely done! Can this be done without taking the rear guide out? Also, would there be any problem leaving the whole assembly in and drilling the rivets out while still in the door?
Got a powered window and I got my pasenger side installed but it won't go up and down. We just had to do the shove up so the vehicle is secure at least.
Like you said, at least you got the window in and the car is secure. I'm sure that you'll figure out the reason it won't go up and down. Have a great day!
You may want to check your rubber seal that presses against the window to keep the water from coming in. To drain the water you could use a shopvac to get it out. And to prevent it from puddling in the bottom of the door, you could drill a couple of 1/4" holes in the bottom of the door to allow the water to drain.
Paul Foldes thanks for the compliment, but I don’t have a 2002 F150. If I did I would surely do a video on it. Thanks for dropping in and sharing a comment! 😀👍

You didn't show how you got the forward bolt in because I can't get my hand in there for the life of me, also you got all the glass out of the track because the window won't go up or down if you don't.
It's been awhile since I did this video, but I don't remember the bolt being that hard to get at. Sorry for not being more helpful! Have a great evening!

Man, thanks for the help mate! I was stuck on the rivits! This video was extremely helpful.
Glad to hear that the video helped you out!
how do you remove that window piece if your window is still attached but chipped ??
Even if the window is chipped Joe I don't see how that would be an issue. It should still come out the same way.
@@stuzman52 when you break out the rivets can you still take out the window and not break it ?

Hi, I'm going to replace my passenger window in my 95 Ranger. Thank you for showing me how! Could you please tell me length of 1/4" bolts that replace rivets?
I can't remember the exact length Norman. Probably around 3/4", but you'll know once you put it back together.
Thanks. I rewatched, & you said 1".
@@normanmullen6634 Thanks Norman as the video was so long ago, I didn't remember saying the length. Have a great day!

How did u quip moving the glass up an down?
I have electric windows
Not sure what you mean by 'quip'. Have a great day!
Wow, that was a fantastic tutorial!
Thank you very much Paul and have a great weekend coming up!
Great video. Thanks for not using any music in your video.
Thank you and you are welcome!
Can I yes a bolt that will fit through so I don’t need a rivet
Yes, you can use bolts if the bolt heads and nuts don't interfere with the operation of the window.
At 7:35, the part on the back side of the window bracket with the metal face is called a RETAINER and the other side of it that is bewtweeb the glass and bracket us called a SPACER. You can use bolts with no problem. Mine is still holding up with no problems at all.
