Initially I thought Clear was a gimmick but when Amex started giving out the credit on the platinum I tried it out. I was blown away with the experience of having both pre check and Clear. I was also able to sign my wife up under the same credit by using my SkyMiles membership credit.
That’s awesome. I’m 100% with you. Seemed like just another cash grab program with clever branding. I was wrong. The entire experience is easy and fast. Service is top notch!
Global entry n clear is the ultimate killer combo for travelers. Definitely one of the best perks on the plat card and I’m also happy to know that clear is only offered on like 4 cards
I have both Clear and TSA Pre-Check and I am a frequent traveler due to my profession. I will NEVER go back to not having them BOTH. The experience is amazing, especially in those big tourist driven airports where you are waiting in line forever. Thing of the past! This should be a no brainer for frequent travelers and bare minimum TSA Pre-Check at least for "infrequent" travelers. If nothing else, it removes at least one layer of added travel stress. Peace of mind is the payback!
Every step in the process adds up. If you’re telling me I can eliminate two major hurdles with the amount of travel I do, I’m taking that deal. 100% agree with you!
Went to LAX today and saw a very Looooong security line. Remembered I had Clear, and the stress melted away. I love that they escort you right up to the front of the security checkpoint line; don't want any Disney World drama . Still waiting for my Pre-check appointment. Great video on a topic that is rarely covered.
Clear does make life much easier. I’m with you. Don’t want any of that Disney world line drama. Love the service of escorting you personally to the front of the line!
Just used precheck for the first time on trip to Chicago. I agree, with three kids in tow it was AMAZING. Used my credit from IHG premier card before downgrading.
Used Clear for the 1st time in Atlanta last week. Very smooth sign up process, the Clear line seemed to be moving slowly....until I saw the regular line!!!! VERY happy to have clear as a free benefit on the Amex Plat
It’s pretty awesome to get the benefit from a card you already have. I’ve had good luck in ATL with it so far. In all honesty, I just don’t hear of any negative stories form clear members. Solid service overall!
I use both! Since CLEAR is more expensive, I almost always use CLEAR over TSA Precheck to get through the line even though it probably takes just a little bit longer to do CLEAR at my airport (precheck line is almost always empty). Great overview video Brandon! Such great programs for families for sure!
Thank you so much this help me so much. My wife and plan on traveling a lot this year and this was so helpful. Our first trip will be in February so I’ll let you know and keep you posted wish us luck.
I recently received an offer from Chase for CLEAR membership since I have the Sapphire Preferred card. I've been enrolled in Global Entry/Pre-check for almost 8 years now, & it has been very worthwhile to me since I transit through some busy airports whenever I'm stateside. I did my research by watching vids like this, so I enrolled at the kiosks in T4 at JFK. However, my flight to the west coast with JetBlue left from T5, of which there is no CLEAR service. 0 for 1. My next flight left from SEA, which does have CLEAR. However, as I was walking up, I saw the "ambassador" leave the CLEAR area kiosks to go converse with a non-CLEAR airport employee, and she never returned for the entire time I was there. 0 for 2. The next flight was from San Diego, which has CLEAR in T1, but not in T2. One guess which terminal I was flying out of. 0 for 3. My flight tomorrow morning leaves from Terminal D at DFW. You guessed it, no CLEAR at D, only E. 0 for 4. I received a customer satisfaction survey two days ago where I reiterated everything in this post, only to receive the standard "hang in there, more CLEAR lanes are coming" reply from a CLEAR rep. Next week, its back up to the NYC metro area from Orlando on United. Only Terminal C at MCO has CLEAR lanes. United flies out of B. 0 for 5. No way am I renewing this waste of time & money program. If your city has older, busy, cramped terminals with no room to grow, I'd save your money and skip this program for the time being.
Excellent video buddy. You kinda of feel like a celebrity. As their personally escorting you to the metal detectors. I like getting to the airport early I like going to the lounges. My wife and another couple arrived at the airport at the same time the wait to get to security was over an hour while I was sitting in the lounge I saw the man and his wife come in Of course but that time I was already on my second or third Manhattan. I felt like I had a back gate pass at Wally World
Glad you talked about making sure to add the KTN to tickets. My wife once got stuck going through the normal line in San Diego and lets just say I will keep hearing about that incident whenever I book travel for the rest of my life. I've also done the bonus airline mile deal with Clear in 2021 and that seemed to stack as well.
You will keep hearing about that incident whenever you book travel for the rest of your life, unless you find a less annoying wife. A wife should bring net peace to your life, not net drama.
Pre-check is essential IME if you travel with older family who may not be as sharp/quick, or maybe infrequent fliers. Or with kids, who just don’t comprehend what’s going on or how serious it can be. Having to figure out and pull out all the required items-especially electronics and parts, meds explaining, and toiletries-in the usual chaos can be terribly confusing for them. Dealing with shoes is another stumbling block for them, in more ways you can imagine. That means delays than can be significant, since there’s usually a cascade: they get upset at first step, make more mistakes, upset becomes anger, and then you got real problems. NEVER expect agents to be sympathetic with elders’ (or kids) problems. It’s like a powerball winner-they’re out there somewhere, but chances are, not with you. Pre-check is a HUGE help with that. None of the shoe issue, none of the electronics scramble. I do pre-check for myself 90% to avoid lines. But I also had to travel occasionally with an elder family member, and pre-check was worth its weight in gold for getting them and their stuff through security. Before pre-check, it was a horrible experience. OTOH, I’ve twice recently had pre-check lines just as bad as regular lines. (Atlanta and DFW). I really wished for Clear, but still haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Anything. My hope was to clear up any confusion between these two programs and to show how many discounts are out there. Lots of options to cut costs!!!
In your case I’m sure that comes in handy. Frequent flying is made much easier with those two services. Global entry interviews are delayed quite a bit right now unfortunately for those trying to sign up for the service. Hopefully that gets figured out at some point.
I enrolled in Clear and Canceled it the day I had to fly. I have TSA Precheck. The problem I had with Clear is that Clear is in a different treninal in my airport, NY, and the terminals don't connect. Just remember that Clear is connected with Delta airlines. I usually fly with Jetblue and Frontier, with great deals, and Clear is not affiliated with them and that's why Clear is in different treninal. The day Clear gets hooked up with Jetblue and Frontier, I will reapply.
I am an American that lives overseas in Japan but travel to the LAX annually, I’m confused as to which PSA or CLEAR to join because it is only for travel to and in the USA , I am a retired DODDS Teacher with a retired ID card and I have an American Express card and Navy Federal Card , thank you
Great question. I’m a fan of using Clear with TSA Precheck. However, if I’m just choosing one or the other I would choose TSA precheck. The lines are shorter most of the time and the convenience of leaving on my shoes and not unpacking my backpack is a big plus. You could also explore Global Entry membership. The issue right now with that is the interviews to get membership are backlogged like crazy. Just something to think about. Let me know if you have any more questions. Happy to help.
Unless I messed up attempting to register for CLEAR on my phone, it was telling me that I must go into the airport to finish the registration, which is kind of defeating the purpose of me getting to the airport later than I typically arrive. Was that true information? Or is it a quickregistration completion at the CLEAR kiosk? I hope that made sense.
Awesome information, thanks for sharing. People who travel often should consider the Amex platinum experience. The platinum card will cover both costs for global entry and clear. ((The annual fee is Hefty💰)) You can also take advantage of the lounge access since passing through the security will now be a breeze. Safe travels everyone✈️
I got me and my Girlfriend global entry, tsa pre check (paid separately before global entry) and clear for free all thanks to my platinum card. Its a life saver when traveling to and from overseas. I didnt know military got a discount on clear…. Nice 👍🏾
Yep. Military, student, and government get discounts. It’s a Greta service and I love using it in combo with PreCheck. Sounds like you have a great setup for an easy travel experience. Congrats!
I’m in a wheelchair and need attendant at airports. On my AST flight I told him I have Clear and TSA pre check He took me directly to TSA and I had to wait twenty minutes while other handicap people were interspersed with regular passengers. Meanwhile I watched people in the Clear line were expedited through! These people need to be trained to recognize Clear and follow through what Clear advertises. Being trapped in a wheelchair at the mercy of an untrained attendant it not a pleasant experience. FYI I registered a complaint with Clear, their response? We have no control over airport employees. Next I contacted the airport, their response? We have no control over a private vendor (which these attendants are)! So I contacted the local vendor he said the employee should respond to our request but are often so busy they don’t have proper management! Grrr! I’m flying next month and adding to the pressure of traveling with medical equipment plus my carryon and wondering what problem I might encounter I’m stressed!
Airports are generally frustrating as they just expect you to know things that can only be known through experience (usually, bad), and there is nobody available that knows anything to ask in advance. Try contacting TSA, you just get a generalized response. Clear doesn't have a general customer service contact.
So, timely upload Brandon.. ive just returned from a trip to do my Global Entry interview. I travelled 8 hours by car (each way) to take this appt, as no others were available near me.. as many other ppl seem to be experiencing. The interview location was in a border town and the interview itself took just minutes. So now I have Clear & Global Entry! No experience yet on using both at the airport but will def. do so for my next trip. In terms of this interview issue - I was a bit obsessive in making a road trip out of it, I wouldn't say its worth your time for the convenience of GE. Btw, anyone, is getting an appt for TSA Pre any easier right now vs GE? Is there a better way than to do what I did - I don't know but I heard regularly checking back to see if slots closer to you open up may yield results.
Global entry interviews are rough right now. The backlog is supposedly pretty deep. I’m hearing they are only escalating cases upon request when the pending application has been pending for 9 months. Typically that’s closer to 4 months. Needless to say, if anyone wants that interview, they’re going to to have to put in the extra work or get lucky in scheduling. Glad it worked out for you. That’s dedication. I’m the same way though. If I want it, I’ll go get it and knock it off my to-do list.
Agreed. For a few bucks more it’s definitely worth it. Problem right now is the delays in the interview process. Months and months of waiting. The processing is a mess right now.
Can You combined the offers I have the united explorer card which should knock my Clear membership down to $109. Can I combined it with it the Amex green card credits?
Your explanation/comparison is really making me want to get Clear (I already have TSA Pre Check). I believe that one of my cards gives me free Global Entry. Any thoughts on its worthiness? I have to admit that being escorted to the front of the line with Clear is cool.
I really like Clear. Cards like the platinum and business platinum cover this cost each year. I find it useful, but I also travel more than 99% of the population. If you can use it frequently, I think it’s worth it. Global entry is helpful if you do enough international travel. For $15 more, you can make the jump from TSA precheck to Global entry. TSA precheck is included in global entry so it makes a lot of sense. The problem right now is the live interviews for global entertainment are booked months and months and months out. Seriously, I’m hearing horror stories of 9 month delays to get an interview. That’s really the big hangup right now. The reason for this backlog comes from the pent up demand and subsequent global entry applications that have come in over the last year. It’s great that people are traveling more now, but it’s really creating a log jam with the global entry process. It’s definitely worth the value especially considering the minimal price difference between precheck and global entry. Let me know if you end up applying.
@@thebrandonboydshow did not realize the backlog was that bad but it makes sense in today's environment. I will let you know when I decide on Clear and/or Global Entry...Many thanks for your time and insight!
Global Entry is ABSOLUTELY worth the $. If you have a credit card that pays for it, it’s a no brainer. Get signed up for it ASAP! GE includes TSA pre-check for the same $. I took two international trips this year and upon returning to the USA I got through passport control in literally about 2 minutes at most. Never even had to take out my passport.
Absolutely. Global entry interview scheduling has been a nightmare unfortunately. I hope they get that sorted out. With global entry including the precheck membership it makes a lot of sense to pay $15 more. You’re 100% correct!
@@thebrandonboydshowI agree. I went with TSA precheck. I received my approval email within 2 days of completing my interview. I was told for Global Entry it could take up to 5 months.
Hi Brandon great video like always.Question I have tsa precheck and Clear but my wife don’t.I can add her on Clear and going to the front line at the TSA? Thanks in advance.
Great question. If she doesn’t have TSA precheck she will simply just move to the front of the standard security line. You’ll go through the Clear line together and very briefly just move through the different screening processes. The only big deal is she will have to remove her shoes and possibly some items from her bag. Otherwise, the two of you may be separated for about 2 minutes during the physical screening, but that’s it.
To be clear, Pre ✔️ is free. The $85 *fee* is to cover the cost of your background check. This becomes realized to people when they do not get Pre ✔️ for their flight and demand it; saying that they "payed for it". As if it's a service to be purchased. If your enrolled in Pre ✔️ and don't get it for your flight; there may be a few reasons: You are traveling on an airline that is not opted into the program or you have been randomly selected to not get it for that flight. *Why random selections?* Random selection which is stated on the fine print of your application is another layer of security. For those that would have ill intent and know they could get through TSA smoothly. Hence the background checks but incase you have people that become radicalized or become mentally disturbed (ex. Fort Hood soldier shoots up base) you have these layers of security. 🙂
Good points. Thanks for sharing. One other folks will want to keep in mind is that they can renew online 6 months before their precheck expires that’s a $70 renewal. If done in person, that fee jumps up to the original cost of $85. I’m a fan of using precheck and clear together. Has made my travel life much easier.
Hey Brandon, I have signed up for clear and when i use it for the first time, do i need to make a special trip to the airport to scan my docs or can i do it when i fly the first time using it?
Great question. If you already have PreChcekc, unfortunately you’ll still have to go through the entire Global Entry application process. This includes paying the application fee and conducting an interview. Only bad part is right now those interviews are difficult to schedule due to the current Global Entry backlog. I wish there was an easier answer, but right now that’s where things stand. Of course, Global Entry includes TSA Precheck. Let me know what you decide to do!
Both programs are part of the department of homeland security (DHS). In order for you to access the tsa precheck line, make sure your known traveler number is included in your reservation. Global entry membership includes tsa precheck benefits as well. Just remember that KTN number. Hope that helps!!!
HI, I recently signed up for AMEX Platinum. I did my Global Entry application, and just sign up for CLEAR. I have a question on Global Entry. How long did you have to wait until they give you your interview appointment? I signed up a month ago, but my application still says pending. I am heading to Asia next month, and was hoping I would get my appointment to complete the process before I head off. Great content. Thanks!
That’s a tough one. Here’s the issue right now. CPB has a massive backlog of applications due to increased demand and not enough staff to fulfill them all. Sound familiar? There are a few things you can try, but they may not work in this environment. Worth a shot though. 1. When you search for an appointment, don’t search by first available appointment. Instead, search airport by airport. Yes, this is inconvenient, but there have been successes doing this. It might be worth a short road trip or worth working it into a small getaway for a day or so. 2. Call to escalate your application. This might not work as typically they won’t escalate right now unless your application has been pending for around 9 months (yes, 9 months). That escalation time used to be closer to 4 months. Another option, although this doesn’t necessarily help you on your upcoming trip, is to go to the “enroll upon arrival.” This option is available when you return from an international trip at roughly 70 airports in the US. The name is exactly as it sounds. If you have a pending enrollment, you can finish up with CPB in these designated lanes when you return to the US. Those are some ideas. My apologies in advance that I can’t guarantee these will speed up your process, but it’s worth a shot. Let me know how it goes for you!
@@HLe10 Mine took 24 hours to get conditional approval back in Jan... My husband just got his conditional approval now (July) and he did his application one day after mine. Also, interview dates are really hard to find, so I would recommend doing the interview at an airport, for example. I did mine at Atlanta Airport in less than 5 min.
I haven’t flown since pre pandemic and I may fly to LA next month. Which should I try to get? Or should I not bother since that’s the only trip I’ll take this yr? Thank you
TSA precheck is handy. I love it. Make things much more efficient. Clear is okay in combination with tsa precheck if it’s available as a free credit on one of your cards. I would not pay for it outright. Also, if you’re going to get tsa precheck, go ahead and apply for global entry instead. It includes tsa precheck but helps you out tremendously when traveling internationally
I signed up global entry and got conditionally approved. But now the issue is the interview. No interview appointments any where near me. Any tips on finding a place for interview?
@@thebrandonboydshow I’m located in NJ. My nearest airports are: EWR, PHL, JFK. I try to check occasionally and every time there are no appointments. Maybe you can make a video on finding interview appointments.
I got tsa precheck last year. I am also looking into clear and global entry but I only travel once or twice a year. I think its well worth it if you are running late to the airport.
He talks about the benefits of tsa precheck, but how many of you are still told to take shoes off jackets off and everything else like someone without tsa precheck? What’s the point if we still have to do those things? I tell them I’m tsa precheck and yet they want me to even though the other agent checked that I’m tsa precheck. Frustrating!
I don't understand why you focused on TSA Precheck as opposed to Global Entry, which includes Precheck and adds additional value, and most cards that offer a credit include Global Entry.
Great question. These two programs get confused often. I considered bringing in global entry into this video, but didn’t want to over complicate it. There will be a separate video highlighting global entry.
Great question. First, I would click on the link in the description and see what credit cards and programs offer tsa membership or a heavy discount. See if you have a card in your wallet now that has this benefit. If not, you can always apply for one that does offer it if that meets your needs. You can also check the video for references on cards that offer Clear discounts. If you’re military, student, or government employee that also gives a steep discount. Let me know if any of those scenarios pertain to you and I can help.
@@thebrandonboydshow Thank you I am a student by the way. I will follow your steps and I will let you know if I need any additional help. I appreciate it thank you. 😊

I have TSA pre-check and enjoy it. Clear seems like it would be good only if you are often going through very busy airports.
Apply for Global Entry! It includes TSA PreChek but faster entry into the country through Customs when you travel internationally.
100% Yes.
I still need to sign up for my platinum credits for these
Might as well take advantage of all those credits. They certainly give you enough to choose from with the platinum card.
Simple answer, for maximum efficiency if you travel through major hubs. Both.
I can confirm this. Makes life easier and travels more convenient. Thanks for your input. 100% agree.
I needed this video thank you for this ❤
I’m glad it was helpful. I’m a big fan of both services.
Thanks this was helpful. He has answered everything.
Definitely get global entry folks the xtra $15 is worth it. You get pre check n customs
Absolutely. Global entry interview scheduling has been a nightmare unfortunately. I hope they get that sorted out. With global entry including the precheck membership it makes a lot of sense to pay $15 more. You’re 100% correct!
@@thebrandonboydshow tell about it my brother is going on 5 months still waiting on his interview
@@thebrandonboydshowI agree. I went with TSA precheck. I received my approval email within 2 days of completing my interview. I was told for Global Entry it could take up to 5 months.
going to Tokyo in Dec do i need both.
Thanks for the quick response! Appreciate
I have global entry and TSA pre-check and the only reason I don't have clear is they ask for way to much money and it's every year.
That’s a good argument against clear. I have it free with a credit card benefit. Otherwise, im not sure I’d pay for it annually.
*Why random selections?*
Random selection which is stated on the fine print of your application is another layer of security.
They will hook you up right there no special trip required
@@davemartinez4143 thanks for the info
@@Gilboa1985 the real credit goes to guys that take the time and make up this content on RUclips because that's where I learned it from
Dave covered it well. No special trip needed. Just meet the representative at the Clear entrance and they will take it from there. Super simple.
Thanks, I appreciate all the great content too
Thank you for the information!
Hope it was helpful. I love using these two in combo.
Every time I apply for a credit card I get denied. Can you help me with this problem. Thank you.
I would be gross to help. What card(s) are you applying for? Any reasons given for the denial?
I have a capital one card that I'm paying off so that's why I'm being denied, I supposed.
I considered getting CLEAR. I have Global Entry which comes with TSA Prechek (a twofer for just $15 more)
I have both. No more than 5 minutes in line.
It’s a beautiful thing. Nothing like breezing through security when the regular lines are backed up.
Can I ask which is better to have clear business or clear family?
Very helpful. Now let me know how to change from TSA pre ✔️ to Global entry for an established account
Does global entry allow you to use the TSA pre check line?
Both programs are part of the department of homeland security (DHS). In order for you to access the tsa precheck line, make sure your known traveler number is included in your reservation. Global entry membership includes tsa precheck benefits as well. Just remember that KTN number. Hope that helps!!!
@@thebrandonboydshow helps a bunch, thanks!
@@thebrandonboydshow Thanks Brandon!
@@cojadmin823 Thanks Mark!
Hmmmm. Where are you located?

I got tsa precheck last year. I am also looking into clear and global entry but I only travel once or twice a year. I think its well worth it if you are running late to the airport.
If you have Clear does that mean that you no longer have to have an passport or government issued ID to get on a plane or do you still need one?
Xlnt video, let's go brandon

I have both and value both
I’m right there with you. They have both been beneficial for us and we travel a lot.
@@thebrandonboydshow same here. Good video 👍🏾
never knew a military member who had a AMX card.
There have been a couple of instances of this happening for me. However, it’s more the exception than the rule.
Great video👍🏾😊 How do I get both the TSA pre check and clear for free again?
Great question. First, I would click on the link in the description and see what credit cards and programs offer tsa membership or a heavy discount. See if you have a card in your wallet now that has this benefit. If not, you can always apply for one that does offer it if that meets your needs. You can also check the video for references on cards that offer Clear discounts. If you’re military, student, or government employee that also gives a steep discount.
Let me know if any of those scenarios pertain to you and I can help.

The credit card companies provide those benefits because they know 95+% of the people are going to spend even more than the benefits they’re offering.
