When my TSA Pre-Check comes up for renewal, can I apply for Global Entry without completely submitting all the information I submitted for Pre-Check? In other words just submitting my current KTN?
You left out that you get a global entry ID that is usable as a real ID if you live in one of the stupid States along with it is another Federal photo ID accepted everywhere😊
I think their daily drop pro might be a scam, I was able to only use it for 3 days and then I was blocked and it hasn't worked for the last 3 weeks, nobody at support can seem to solve it.
Question if I fill out for my husband and I at the same time will it be easy for us to get an appointment at the same time or together? I would prefer for us to go together since we have to travel pretty good distance for the interview.
A few of statements here require correction: 1. CLEAR Plus does not bypass security line, CLEAR Plus is an expedited service that checks identity using biometrics at the kiosk without the need to take out ID documents (i.e. driver licenses, passport etc). You don't and cannot walk past the security line. 2. CLEAR Plus does not replace or supersede TSA PreCheck, they complement each other in the ID checking and security line. 3. As of today, CLEAR Plus membership fee is $199 per year, no longer at $189. 4. Both the AMEX Delta Skymiles Gold card and Chase United Explorer card DON'T cover a single penny as credit towards CLEAR Plus membership fee. Being a cardholder of either card reduces the fee to $159 instead of the full $199, but if you pay for the membership using either of these two cards, you will not be credited since this isn't a benefit of either cards. 5. The AMEX Hilton Honors Aspire card (not mentioned in video) covers the full CLEAR plus membership fee, just like the AMEX Platinum and Business Platinum cards.
At the airports where I frequently fly (JFK, LGA, LAX, SFO, DCA) Clear does allow you to bypass the entire line before the point where the officer checks your ID (which often allows bypassing a long line). After you pass that point, you go through the same process with everyone else of putting your carry on bags in the machine, and going through the scanner or metal detector, etc. Usually there is a Clear station for either TSA Pre or Regular. If the regular line is very short, it is possible that the Clear might not save any time. Clear (in my experience) is basically just paying money to often have a much shorter line.
@@morrispearl9981 You are right regarding CLEAR lets you bypass the ID check line and go straight to security check. In fact that is the main purpose of having CLEAR. The information given in the video said "bypass security line" which is false and misinformation, no one can bypass security check.
"Bypass security line" is definitely misleading. CLEAR is more of a front-of-the-line privilege, although that's now more accurately CLEAR + TSA Pre, with CLEAR alone being second-in-line if funneled through the same checkpoint.
For the Global Entry interview, I did mine when I arrived back to the U.S. I just went through the Global Entry line, handed the agent my passport, and it took just 5-10 minutes to complete.
Interview on arrival can be challenging if you have a US-based connection on your return, because you go through customs there and not your home airport. It was a bit of a squeeze for me during a connection in IAD, but was a complete failure for my daughter when she came back through YYZ (Toronto CBP preclearance) - we almost missed our flight and have nothing to show for it. DO NOT try this if connecting in Toronto unless you have a very long layover of probably more than 4 hours.
@@MRSTEEL15 It took me about 10 minutes and it was super easy. Just basic stuff, like ever been arrested(of course I have, I was an idiot teenage boy), but answer them honestly and it's no big deal. Got the approval email 2 days later and the card they give for land entry by way of Mexico/Canada arrived a few days later.
Often, you can just show up at the Global Entry Interview place without an appointment and they'll just squeeze you in as a walk in. You can also easily renew it online without new interviews once you have it.
@KimberlyAn73 Hahaha yesssss. My husband and I did exactly that. They didn't warn us that the photo would be on the card, and we'd just been on an 18+ hour flight from Singapore to JFK. Our photos look rough. 😂 Especially my poor husband that only slept 1 of those 18 hours. 😵💫 But oh well, was totally worth it. Took about 10 minutes for both of us and we were approved.
For those that don't want to wait and do their interview on arrival trying to schedule the appointment can be a major hassle as when I tried to schedule it for November I was told that I can only schedule an interview appointment a week in advance. So if I wanted to do my interview on the 26th of November I wouldn't be able to attempt to schedule it until the 19th of November. That's a major hassle and makes no sense.
@@KimberlyAn73Lol! I knew that I was going to get interviewed on arrival but I was expecting a little warning. I was coming back from an 8 hour international trip. After the interview, the custom officer just said look here, point to the camera and then took a picture. No counting, didn’t ask if you’re ready. I looked as surprised in my picture. There was no do over. I wasn’t about to argue with the officer. Oh well.
Also, Global Entry interviews can now be automatically given when you return from your next international trip. They just pull you aside on re-entry and make you answer the 2 or 3 questions and that's it. No need to schedule your interview outside of a normal international trip you may already have planned. Basically it just gets done the next time you return home.
I applied for Global Entry back in June. Upon my return from Europe a couple of days ago the border agent told me that I was conditionally pre-approved while I was gone, and he told me to do my interview right there at the airport with another agent by the exit. The interview took less than 5 minutes.✅
Well as for me was conditionally approved and this was for a renewal went to Australia and Hawaii is the first port of entry and last leg was to go to SFO where I lived when I arrived hawaii I told the officer in the global entry that I'm up for renewal which she confirmed on her computer and hence interview upon arrival officer asked me to wait and after 5 mins escorted me to customs when I declared I had bought some designer shoes in Australia but instead of getting me my interview they were hell bent on getting me taxed for the designer shoes I bought worth $5000 and even ridiculing me for bringing 2 big luggages for a 10 day cruise which incidentally has my wedding attire they opened the bags and just found the shoes which I did declare. Almost lost my connection to SFO and taxed me 60$ for the 5000$ shoes when I asked if they are done and should we proceed for the interview global entry they said you sure you wanna go it will take us long and you'll surely miss your flight. I did not argue anymore but I felt that it just missed it's purpose on me. They made me wait if I had known all along that they need to tax me and not interview me they should have told me ahead and i would gladly pay but no they took their own sweet time assigning some othe people and computing even when I told them I had a 1 hour only connection. PEOPLE there in Hawaii are just plain rude.
Nice concise video! I have TSA Pre + Global Entry, and my home airport is ATL Hartsfield. I can concur that there have been several times where general screening showed quicker than either TSA Precheck or Clear. It's hit or miss for me in ATL for a timesaver, but in most of my destination airports it's been very beneficial when flying back home. Global Entry has been completely worth it for ATL immigration.
Las Vegas-Harry Reid International Airport can be very quick or very slow. Unless you keep track of what is going on in town (which conventions on which days or other big events) or you are heading home, you can be backed-up or you can speed through. It is hit or mis.
I'm a retired int'l airline Captain who travels a LOT! Clear is VERY much airport dependent... it Atlanta (my home base) it's worthless... the Clear lines are usually MUCH longer/slower than Pre-check... but in Chicago, Clear is awesome... usually 2-3 minutes to get through. Good luck!
The first time I got TSA PreCheck I didn't know about Global Entry and was really sad when I found out I could have had all of the TSA PreCheck benefits, plus the international ones for $20 more. When my Global Entry application was conditionally approved, there wasn't going to be an appointment available for over half a year, but there was an option to do your interview at customs when returning from another country. When I came back from France, I just told them I wanted to do my interview and they asked the questions, did picture and fingerprinting right there.
I live in Nashville and work at the airport clear has no staff after 7pm so better have TSA pre check or tsa will be more than happy to show you where the standard line starts at
Having done both TSA Precheck and Global Reentry at separate occasions, this dude knows a lot about them. However, I read a sign in a terminal in NYC that they no longer serve Clear. I love my Global Reentry.
If you live near a Canadian border the other option is NEXUS. It gets you TSA, Global entry, the Nexus line driving to Canada and the short line flying into Canada, like GE. Right now it is still only $50 for 5 years.. Living in Michigan that is the best for us. We have driven the 4 hours to Toronto to get cheaper airfare.
I did NEXUS, but the big problem is that there was an 11 month wait for it to be approved and then about a month wait to have the interview. I did my interview in Detroit, but could have had a shorter wait for an appointment if I had gone to Sault Ste. Marie instead.
Just sign up and fly to international falls MN. You will get through it fast and have Nexus giving you fast pass in Canada, Global Entry and TSA pre. Also add Clear and you don't even notice security.
Agreed! NEXUS is the best of all of the North American TTPs, followed by Global Entry, followed by TSA Pre. I would never use Clear. The biggest con of NEXUS is that you have to deal with the bureaucracies of two different countries (Canada and the USA) instead of just one.
I have NEXUS and after the first time I got it, the renewal did not even involve going anywhere. They just renewd it without issue. I used to travel to Canada for business once a week, and it saved me at least an hour going into and out of Canada each time. I went with a co-worker into Canada who did not have NEXUS and was able to go through customs, go to the car rental location and pick up the car and still had to wait for the co-worker to make it through customs.
I got my Global Entry Appointment. I took a trip out of country and when I reentered, I did an expedited interview at immigration and did not need to attend my appointment months later. Done!
We didn't even schedule an appointment, we came back from Jamaica, we were in BWI, they asked us, "Do you want to do your interview now"? We both had a 3 to 5 minute interview, and three days later we were approved.
Yo, Former TSA here. Just get pre check, everything else does not help you get through faster. It is literally cheaper to get a credit card like United's Premiere to get into premiere lines. What is even faster? Look for open lanes, the amount of passengers (me too before workin) do not look or see that we usually have completely empty lines, do not follow the flock. If you see a lane with those automated machines with the mega bins, those usually are only good if there aren't many people. Go to traditional lanes with the manual rollers and small bins during rushes.
After reading all the comments here, it seems like the benefits are situational, and that has been my experience. No longer paying for Clear. It helped a couple of years ago but now we find they are often closed. The short lines are not always short, and no matter what so-called advantage I have, even with TSA Pre-check, it makes little difference. Just get to the airport early and deal with it. Travel always has challenges. But it’s worth it!
I disagree, even if the lines are the exact same with pre-check versus regular the fact that you don’t have to take anything out is still more convenient even if the time in Line is the exact same. Have used pre-check now 40 times give or take a few and only two times have the lines been one time it was longer my one friend was finished with his shoes and putting his coat back on when I was getting out and the other time we were getting out around the same time otherwise it’s always been at least a little bit quicker if not far quickerbut just this simple convenience and I have to take off the shoes take the laptop out, etc. I feel like it is worth it, especially if you already have the price covered with your bank and or credit card
@@uscgwagner thank for the info. i looked into it and it seems that only active duty or active duty orders qualify. so if you're in guard or reserve, it doesn't apply to you unless you are on active duty orders. and when your active duty orders end, you have to keep paying the annual fee every year unless you get active duty orders again. i'm not sure how that works exactly.
The big thing is getting the interview. I applied but the interview was a 3 month wait at las I didn’t schedule. On a foreign trip I decided to stay in Honolulu for a few days before flying back to the continental USA. The passport agent asked if I wanted to take mt global entry interview. I said yes as I had a few hours before I could check in to the hotel the whole process took less than two hours while the interview was less than ten minutes.
For sure! You definitely have to plan ahead for getting a Global Entry interview, but we think it is more than worth it. Interviews upon arrival at certain airports are also a great option! Glad it worked out for you!
This is my issue. Most of my trips are domestic, and global entry interviews are only available on entry at my airport. So I either have to try to schedule an interview in a distant airport and hope I can find a time that coincides with a trip while appointments are still open, or wait til I do an international trip and return, which could be after many, many domestic flights. Or double pay for TSA precheck. I don't know how to win here.
I just got my global entry KTN. It took me three months to schedule my interview at Boston Logan international. I was planning on going through the interview on return from my trip abroad in September but an injury while I was away sidelined my ability to do this. I needed a wheelchair at the plane's door and airport staff got me through immigration fairly quickly so I lost that opportunity. It took me from August when I first applied to December to get my appointment. Once the appointment was over, I got my card in a matter of a week. Haven't had a chance to use it yet so hopefully it'll all go as planned for future travel.
TSA Pre✅ have not had an issues and returning from Mexico City i show them the info and only ask me to remove my belt nothing else. Everyone else does the regular security measures… 😊. Get special treatment, plus I’m always nice, smile and say thank you for everything. ❤
My experience has been similar and that in the last three flights TSA pre-check was much faster than CLEAR. I’ve been told that other airports may be better, but specifically Newark airport is known to have terrible clear service and generally rude agents.
If you don't plan to go international, Global Entry may not be worth it.... it really depends on your location and ability to get to an interview location. I was faced with several choices and ultimately took a day off, flew to Boston for my interview (you can pay an app to track openings at preferred locations), flew to Charlotte and back home. It made for a long day, but it would have been probably 5 hours driving, plus the interview, plus gas parking and meals etc... Sure I paid for the flights.... but not driving to/in/thru Philly, Baltimore, DC or PIttsburgh was 100% worth that. Ultimately, I wound up not going on the vacation that was initially planned for using Global Entry, but am looking at new ones. At least that's all a one and done thing and renewal can be 100% remote.
Just some info for TSA pre check for anyone wondering. I did mine at a Staples store. I scheduled my appointment for the next day, it took about 10 minutes to do, then I got my ktn in a couple of days. Also, I have a capital one venture card and they covered the cost. Check your credit card to see if they pay for it. By far the easiest way to do it. I'd never go to the airport for the meeting.
If you get approved for this process anywhere other than an international airport you do not have Global Entry. Global Entry costs barely more than TSA Pre-check. Just get Global Entry. It includes TSA Pre-check.
I think there is one trick you didn't mention. I got Nexus, and unknowingly it came with both TSA PreChecked and Global Entry for free. Nexus costs $120 per 5 years (same as global entry). Catch is that the enrollment centers are near the northern US border only.
You explained *A LOT!* I already knew about TSA pre-check and global entry but was just to lazy to apply. I'll traveling to Japan next year. I need to apply for global entry ASAP! Thanks for your video. Very *clear* and to the point. (did you see what I just did?😏)
I travel a few times a month. Clear is by far the slowest "expedited" way through security. If you schedule your Global Entry and can't immediately get an appointment, you may find that many of the interview locations aren't super busy and you can complete your interview there.
TSA's Precheck is supposed to provide expedited access in Security check points. However, having a KTN (known traveler number) that is assigned to everyone who is TSA Precheck approved does not always prevent the issuance of the dreaded SSSS's on a domestic boarding pass. If you've never experienced having SSSS on your boarding pass, it is nothing to wish for. In order to prevent future SSSS's on boarding passes, one must apply to TSA for a "Redress" number. You can apply for one online on TSA'a website.
I returned from Europe (to the US) a week ago, and the Global Entry line at JFK was SO LONG that it took me probably 30 minutes after going through the terminal. There were SO MANY people in queue and there were only two or three officers taking care of Global Entry that, because it is now paperless, it took the officer a while to locate me on his monitor. When too many people sign up, the benefit diminishes…
@@ibmtpx24 Global Entry line and others do not mix at all, at least at JFK’s Terminals 1 and 8. It is an entirely different part of the customs area, and you DO have to see the customs officer 100% of the time. I am not going to ask you how you know this because…I don’t think you do 😀
I have global entry and it is great. No problem with a security check line or cbp on airport line. I need to renew global entry and it seems like there will be no problem with an appointment at Chicago airport.
@@editor3210, I didn’t. I had let mine expire by a month. Renewed online and it said 6 month processing time plus potential interview. I got an approval the next week with no new interview. Same for my spouse the next month.
One other consideration if you don't live in a major city. I live in Flagstaff, AZ. We have several places in Flagstaff where you can get the TSA PreCheck interview but for our Global Entry interview my wife and I had to drive to Phoenix Sky Harbor airport (2 hr 14 min, 147 miles), pay for parking and pay for the gas. So we made a day of it. Also since we are both healthcare providers and wash our hands frequently, the electronic fingerprint machine could not record our fingerprints so we cannot use the automatic check in for Global Entry and we are stuck with the lines although the interview with the border agent is streamlined.
Thank you for doing this. As a travel agent we advise our guests to get Global Entry. Very often they come back and say, "Oh, I was able to just go to a local place and sign up," to which we reply, "that's not Global Entry." Be sure you get Global Entry, it INCLUDES PRE-CHECK. Maybe you haven't traveled internationally so you don't care. Ok, but what if you do? It's a few dollars more and once you're approved the renewal is easy. We recommend you do the work the first time, go to the Internaional Airport Global Entry office with your passport and get Global Entry - WHICH INCLUDES PRE-CHECK. It's included.
When driving into the US or into Canada there are two additional items that people might find useful. Nexus is good for easy entry via vehicle into Canada. This one is even more complex to get than Global Entry; but for those that drive into Canada frequently, it’s well worth getting! Also, Global Entry helps to get quicker entry by vehicle when driving into the US from either Canada or Mexico.
NEXUS is only more complex to get due to the dual interview structure, and there are still a few locations where you can schedule an interview with US and CA at the same time. NEXUS holders may use the SENTRI (Mexico to US) and NEXUS (Canada to US and US to Canada) lanes. GE can use the SENTRI lanes and the CA to US NEXUS lanes.
It's been a couple of years so I don't remember exactly the details... But I applied for Global Entry when I was physically in Thailand (I have US Citizenship). One of the options it gave me was to be interviewed upon arrival, so I was able to be interviewed right at the immigration window as I arrived MSP, which was about a week after my application. It was pretty simple actually.
I am 50% travel for work but my airport is Tampa and we don’t have Clear. There’s been a few times that I wished I had clear, LAX, Atlanta, and (believe it not) New Orleans flying immediately after a Saints game. I have Global Entry it works perfectly. The only thing I suggest is to not use it when driving through the border from Canada. Sometimes they don’t know what it is.
Agree, Global Entry is the one to get. But, hard to believe that anyone is paying a fee to own a credit card. For most people a cc card is free and the cc companies pay us to use their cards. The kickback far exceeds the cost of PreCheck, Global Entry or Clear.
If you get a Nexus card which has TSA precheck, expedited immigration global entry, and expedited entry into Canada is only $50 dollars. You have an interview with U.S. customs and Canadian customs officers who are collocated on the U.S. side at the Nexus office near a land border port of entry near Canada. I got my Nexus card when they were at Boeing field in Seattle, stupidly when my card was about to expire I changed it to Global entry without any interview and paid $100 dollars and they just sent the card in the mail. I recently reapplied for the Nexus card and paid another $50 dollars, had to schedule another interview but this time up in Blaine Washington near the border. I’m staying with Nexus from now on and just paying $50 dollars renewals, the card literally does the same thing with a little more such as getting through Canada through the Nexus lane at the land border and through the U.S Nexus lane. You also get through the line faster if you fly into Canada with Nexus if you’re a Canadian or U.S. citizen. No more interviews once you keep it and renew Nexus.
Global Entry appointment can be bypassed when returning from an overseas flight once you appear at the immigration officer you can asked to have your interview done right then and they will send you to the side and have an interviewer come get you. Once you’re approved they will send you your card by mail which takes 7 days
One thing that is never mentioned about Global Entry. Even though you do zoom through the immigration line, your luggage doesn't. You will be waiting at the same baggage carousel as everyone else.
I applied for global entry back in April and my appointment was in June. After my interview, I got my card within a week. I used it for the first time in August and it worked perfectly. Definitely worth the money.
I fly out of BWI back home to TPA about 30 times per year. I have all 3 and over the course of the last year, I would estimate the regular TSA Pre Check line was less than half as long as the CLEAR / TSA line. Had the same experience on two trips out of LAS this past year as well. Clear is quickly becoming not worth the cost.
My experience with TSA pre check the first time was I left belt on and shoes on. First trip thru machine set off the buzzer. They made me remove belt and shoes. Thru machine again and set it off. They then moved me to a 360 degree machine and I passed. So my tsa pre check should be avoided if you have any metal body parts. Which I do have in my wrists. Only benefit is shorter lines.
We used Mobile Passport Control coming through Miami from the Caribbean. It was free, easy, and fast. What was not easy or fast was waiting in security again to get to our connecting gate. Flying out of SEA and DEN I can’t imagine not having Precheck and Clear.
I fly a lot domestically, have Precheck and love it. At the time I got it, I wasn't flying internationally at all, so didn't do Global Entry. Now I'm going to Europe basically once a year, but not sure that adding GE is worth it given that I already have Precheck. Thoughts? My home airport doesn't have CLEAR so that's not really an option.
Yes, I made the mistake of getting TSA Pre-Check... for an international flight. During my interview, the option of Global Entry was explained to me -- but that it can take up to a YEAR to get approved. I'm leaving on my trip to SE Asia in less than 2 weeks -- so this isn't an option. But since I plan to make the same trip in subsequent years, maybe it's something I can explore upon my return. Not sure what -- if anything -- I accomplished by getting TSA Pre-Check. But, just in case, I DID submit my KTN to my air carrier -- Korean Airlines.
I find the web page for Global Entry to be very difficult.....too much stuff on each page and then unclear about how to schedule to interview. The interview part for us in the DC area, is very hard....no appointments, or you have to drive to the outer limits of space to get an appointment.
Last time I went through TSA PreCheck at Bradley International in CT (small-ish), the Clear line just let you cut in front of whomever was waiting in the Pre-Check line to get their ID scanned. And that was maybe 4 or 5 people. Still went through security just like Pre-Check. Maybe it is worth it at a big airport, but not at BDL.
I recently went through TSA pre-check clear at DIA. And myself and several other passengers had our bags searched just to confirm that we complied with the rule. First time I ever had that happen, so they must be changing the rules at TSA. I’m left wondering whether pre-check or clear is even worth the price. It seems to me that TSA is changing the rules on an ongoing basis.
GE Applied and paid 8/2022 Couldn't get an interview locally. I was trying to schedule an appointment in advance by flying to MIA doing my interview and then flying back. July 2023 interview 🎉Houston AIRPORT returning from international flight ✈️ Luckily, I did my research and realized I could interview there and made sure I chose that line on my way back in. Seems like other people figured that too bc my wait in that line was longer than the actual interview. ❤
There's another thing called NEXUS which is good for people who live near the US/Canadian border thas it is expedited immigration going BOTH ways. So it's like Global Entry crossing from US to Canada AND from Canada to US, but does NOT include expedited entry from other countries. So if you're a person who goes into and out of Canada a lot AND you travel to other countries you should get BOTH Global Entry and NEXUS. and yes, NEXUS requires an appointment interview in Canada.
I signed up for CLEAR at SAN, but I didn't know that I'd still have to go through "regular" security. All is did was get me to the head of the line much faster. Not a bargain at $199 per year. Next time I'll only sign up for Global Entry and TSA.
Yes, everyone even with CLEAR still has to go through security and it just is supposed to expedite you through the security line. We definitely get more value out of TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry, but if a credit card gives us a CLEAR credit, then we for sure will use it!
What if you have a TWIC card which gives you automatic pre-check and when I travel with a vessel, I use the CBP app. I am a certified traveler on their app just curious. In addition, I do have a venture card. How could I apply some of these to my family wife and son for future international travel?
I went with the global entry option since pre-check was included. I won't be using GE until next year, but I've used PC for multiple years and it is SOOOOOO worth it!! I can get through security most times in under 5 minutes, and that includes standing in line. I'm looking forward to using GE next year after our trip to Europe, paid for by miles and points that I've been building since 2019!
I really don't know where you got your information but I have had Global entry for around 7 years and I live in NYC and every time I travel and go through the TSA PRE CHECK I have to take off my belt and shoes just like everybody else. All we get is a shorter line. Maybe is just a NY thing
You may have to take off your belt and shoes because if they alarm going thru the metal detector that's when you have to take it off. And just because you've gone thru one metal detector doesn't mean you can go thru all without taking those items off.
I recently flew internationally, didn’t have to remove my shoes or belt with TSA Pre. Surprised the heck out of me. I didn’t have the usual hassle I had without it.
@@Bigfish1dayI have tsa pre check and Hlobal entry for 5 years just renewed it. If you fly out of JFK and LGA they check you I have never gotten a break. Where did you fly from?
@@Peter-ok9bj RDU, was no better in MIA had to take my belt off. I think they are using these apps that are supposed to make our lives better for tracking purposes. The MPC App was basically a joke also.
I've flown very little lately, but everytime TSA PreCheck has had me take off shoes, etc., same as everybody else. I guess they did not have anything else to do since I was the only one in their line. 🙂
I have clear and coming out of MDW I’m through security in under 10 minutes. Sometimes way less than that. They walk me to the shortest line to put my bags on the belt and I’m done. Now LAS is a different story. My flight in August I was in line 20+ minutes. They have one designated lane and if they have a lot of traveler with pre check or clear, that line can be long.
You can avoid the long interview schedules by conducting your interview upon entering (interview upon arrival) the USA. Call the airport or check online to see if the international airport you’re entering offers the service. Most do offer it and it’s simple.
Doesn't that mean you would "technically" not have global entry or tsa pre check yet? You wouldn't be able to use the benefits until your next trip corrdct?
@ you just go through the typical line, so yes, that first time entering the USA wouldn’t be through global entry. You ask the customs officer to take the interview. Once the interview is completed, you will be notified of your approval for global entry. For example, my wife was conditionally approved for global entry, with an interview date of April 2025. We just returned from a foreign trip, and when entering the USA she took the interview and has since been approved for global entry.
I just flew for the first time in five years and found out that everyone has PreCheck now. The line was no shorter than the regular one at my home airport. In Seattle, they still made me remove my belt b/c the buckle kept setting it off and asked me why I didn't take it off in the first place. Hopefully I don't have to fly for another five years.
If I hear you correctly, if you have TSA & Global Entry privileges, ( both good for 5 years with different expirations , you can drop or not renew KTN ?
In PHX airport is a nightmare. Basically they hold the line and only allow TSA Precheck, I mean they could make another separate line but no, they hold a big line and even a TSA precheck is miles away they still wait for that person, is ridiculous.
The whole idea and supposedly benefits of PSA pre-check is to expedite your passage through the security checkpoints at the airports. But I find that, this is becoming less and less so as more and more people are getting PSA pre-check. For instance, in my two most recent travels through JFK, the regular lines were shorter that the PSA pre-checked lines, causing me to wonder if PSA pre-check was worth getting. And with the increase of more people buying in Pre-check, I cannot envision how Pre-check can continue serve its intended purpose. So far, however, I have not had that problem when using the Global Entry on my return.
Your video is incomplete. It does not mention Nexus, which gives you the same benefits going into and out of Canada and includes Global Entry and TSA Pre. It was a bargain at $50 but the price recently went up to $120 for 5 years.
Well, damn! I should have applied for CLEAR since I have the Amex Delta Skymiles card. I only have PreCheck because when I applied I had booked a trip to France that was a couple months out but the next available appointment for Global Entry interview was right around the time I would be traveling while the PreCheck interview was just about 1 week waiting time.
The downside of applying for global entry where I live, we only have one center and it’s over 2 hours away, compared to a tsa precheck center 5 minutes away. As much as I would love to have global entry, that’s my only hesitation.

A few of statements here require correction:
Thank you for the clarification.
@@ping0313 Well technically checking ID is a form of "security", so you're bypassing ONE of the security lines.
Amazing 👏 Glad to hear this could work well for people!
Did it feel like a hard interrogation or was it pretty easy PZ ?
@@MRSTEEL15 YOU ARE NOW FLAGGED LOL
Global entry has enrollment on arrival. You essentially do the interview as you go through customs
Just don’t forget they will be taking your photo lol so do you want a photo taken after an 8+ hour flight? 😂🎉 you might and awesome just a heads up
@KimberlyAn73 Hahaha yesssss. My husband and I did exactly that. They didn't warn us that the photo would be on the card, and we'd just been on an 18+ hour flight from Singapore to JFK. Our photos look rough. 😂 Especially my poor husband that only slept 1 of those 18 hours. 😵💫
But oh well, was totally worth it. Took about 10 minutes for both of us and we were approved.
Yes! Enrollment on arrival is a great option for people wanting to have a quick application turnaround 👍
Yes, which is a great way to get through the process quickly! The airport just has to offer enrollment on arrival.
I applied for Global Entry back in June. Upon my return from Europe a couple of days ago the border agent told me that I was conditionally pre-approved while I was gone, and he told me to do my interview right there at the airport with another agent by the exit. The interview took less than 5 minutes.✅
Amazing 🎉 That certainly made the process go a lot quicker for you. Thanks for sharing your experience!
They made me wait if I had known all along that they need to tax me and not interview me they should have told me ahead and i would gladly pay but no they took their own sweet time assigning some othe people and
computing even when I told them I had a 1 hour only connection.
Wow sounds like a great & quick experience getting Global Entry on arrival! Thanks for sharing!
Global Entry now has the app, I was through customs in Miami coming back from Cuba in under 10 minutes, highly recommended
I live in Nashville and work at the airport clear has no staff after 7pm so better have TSA pre check or tsa will be more than happy to show you where the standard line starts at
Nashville only has white people working. It's a caucasian airport and city. NOT SURPRISED all the entitled white people get off work at 7pm!!!
I worked for TSA and have no idea why Clear doesn't automatically enroll you in precheck exactly for situations like that
Having done both TSA Precheck and Global Reentry at separate occasions, this dude knows a lot about them.
Price has gone up now, same as GE. 120 now, I think.
You missed NEXUS, which is the Canadian border expedited entry program and comes with Global Entry and TSA Precheck.
And available to US Citizens. If you live near the border get NEXUS instead as it allows for quicker US/Canada border crossings.
Great video! No ads… omg what a relief
Canadian here, I am enrolled in the Nexus program which covers both TSA pre check and Global
Entry and obviously Nexus. 50 bucks for five years.
Now it’s $120!
We live in WA state and love our NEXUS for all the benefits.
FYI, if you're a military member (including national guard and reserve), you already have a TSA PreCheck.
You can also get the AMEX platinum for free. And that will get you clear or global entry from free as well
@@uscgwagner thank for the info. i looked into it and it seems that only active duty or active duty orders qualify. so if you're in guard or reserve, it doesn't apply to you unless you are on active duty orders. and when your active duty orders end, you have to keep paying the annual fee every year unless you get active duty orders again. i'm not sure how that works exactly.
@@joegame4576 correct. Annual fee waivers typically only applys to active duty only.
@ I would suggest if you have a credit card that pays for clear get it while you are waiting to either get your global entry or tsa.
I work for TSA as well sometimes you will get random no precheck status and have to go through as a standard passenger, not all airports have clear.
TSA Pre✅ have not had an issues and returning from Mexico City i show them the info and only ask me to remove my belt nothing else. Everyone else does the regular security measures… 😊. Get special treatment, plus I’m always nice, smile and say thank you for everything. ❤
Awesome to hear & so important to be kind!
Arrived from UK & LAX Global was a breeze, there was a giant line for regular customs
You explained *A LOT!* I already knew about TSA pre-check and global entry but was just to lazy to apply. I'll traveling to Japan next year. I need to apply for global entry ASAP! Thanks for your video. Very *clear* and to the point. (did you see what I just did?😏)
Haha so happy to hear this was helpful! Enjoy your trip to Japan!
I believe you may not be in the proper line. With global entry, you don't interact any human when you go through the custom.
Don't ask me how I know.
@@ibmtpx24 Global Entry line and others do not mix at all, at least at JFK’s Terminals 1 and 8. It is an entirely different part of the customs area, and you DO have to see the customs officer 100% of the time. I am not going to ask you how you know this because…I don’t think you do 😀
@@nondescriptnycdef correct what you just said
@@ibmtpx24your info is incorrect. 100% you will see an officer. You will likely be waved through but not all the time
It's JFK. That's the problem.
I have global entry and it is great. No problem with a security check line or cbp on airport line. I need to renew global entry and it seems like there will be no problem with an appointment at Chicago airport.
Renewal for me was online and almost immediate.
@@gerrieriihimaki6446 Did you have an appointment with CBP officer?
@@editor3210 not for my renewal. It was all online.
If you don't get global entry, you can use mobile passport on your phone to zip through immigration lines at most airports.
Another option...a NEXUS card.Easy, quick travel between the US and Canada *and* TSA Precheck/Global Entry. And it's $50 for 5 years.
$120 now
@@semothy2000 I just renewed mine last summer...$50.
@jackfitzpatrick8173 good for you. CBP NOW says it's $120
You can do the interview when returning but for me, getting an appointment at the closest airport (4.5 hour drive) was tough.
Amazing 👏 Thanks for sharing!
NEXUS is now 120, just like GE.
Global Entry appointment can be bypassed when returning from an overseas flight once you appear at the immigration officer you can asked to have your interview done right then and they will send you to the side and have an interviewer come get you. Once you’re approved they will send you your card by mail which takes 7 days
In your audio, you said that global entry comes with TSA pre-check you got it backwards in your Audible explanation initially
If you have any blemish on your record global entry can get iffy. It's wild... you can have tsa pre-check but still denied global entry.
One thing that is never mentioned about Global Entry. Even though you do zoom through the immigration line, your luggage doesn't. You will be waiting at the same baggage carousel as everyone else.
Totally fair point! We travel with only carry on so it makes the process super efficient for us.
If they are renewed every 5 years, wouldn't you divide the renewal fee into 5 for the card benefits vs annual fee comparison?
Global Entry Pass should be in the mail tomorrow if not next week. Stoked for it.
If you fly Delta and are at an airport that has it, Digital ID is usually the fastest of them all. It does the same thing as CLEAR, just faster.
You did great job explaining but wish you would have added links to all three to start the process.
Huh. I had a background check and my interview back around 2013 to get Global Entry. Sounds completely trivial now!
I find the web page for Global Entry to be very difficult.....too much stuff on each page and then unclear about how to schedule to interview. The interview part for us in the DC area, is very hard....no appointments, or you have to drive to the outer limits of space to get an appointment.
Clear or TSA Pre are SJU is a must
Last time I went through TSA PreCheck at Bradley International in CT (small-ish), the Clear line just let you cut in front of whomever was waiting in the Pre-Check line to get their ID scanned. And that was maybe 4 or 5 people. Still went through security just like Pre-Check. Maybe it is worth it at a big airport, but not at BDL.
You can also interview at selected international airports as you return to country.

Couldn't get an interview locally. I was trying to schedule an appointment in advance by flying to MIA doing my interview and then flying back.
July 2023 interview 🎉Houston AIRPORT returning from international flight ✈️
Luckily, I did my research and realized I could interview there and made sure I chose that line on my way back in. Seems like other people figured that too bc my wait in that line was longer than the actual interview. ❤
That’s what I did too
There's another thing called NEXUS which is good for people who live near the US/Canadian border thas it is expedited immigration going BOTH ways.
Home Depot uses clear for their tool rental. i wonder if you are in the system to be able to use it at the airport?
What if you have a TWIC card which gives you automatic pre-check and when I travel with a vessel, I use the CBP app. I am a certified traveler on their app just curious. In addition, I do have a venture card. How could I apply some of these to my family wife and son for future international travel?
How does paying the fees for the credit card, make "clear", "global entry", and "precheck free"?
Exactly.I'll just wait in the regular line lol
I went with the global entry option since pre-check was included. I won't be using GE until next year, but I've used PC for multiple years and it is SOOOOOO worth it!! I can get through security most times in under 5 minutes, and that includes standing in line. I'm looking forward to using GE next year after our trip to Europe, paid for by miles and points that I've been building since 2019!
Amazing 👏 If you like PreCheck, then you will definitely get a lot of value out of Global Entry! Enjoy your trip!
No they tell you to remove them before you go to the metal detector. I fly a lot and they do this at LGA and JFK.
The MPC App was basically a joke also.
the best port entry card I have is the TWIC ... I can use it anywhere...
I've flown very little lately, but everytime TSA PreCheck has had me take off shoes, etc., same as everybody else. I guess they did not have anything else to do since I was the only one in their line. 🙂
Global Entry has been a true blessing!
Agreed! Definitely a favorite of ours!
I have the Sentri card. I travel to Mexico weekly and get pre TSA.
So interesting! Every airport does seem to have a different experience.
Great, informative video! Thank you! I'm traveling to St Lucia soon and trying to decide if I want to apply for global entry!
Glad this was helpful! Global Entry is definitely useful once you can get through the interview process. Enjoy St. Lucia 😎
@DailyDrop Thank you!!
It's totally worth getting Global Entry....just love it
Agreed!
FYI
The appt process was easier before open border crisis
Now due to border crises , u can wait up to a year
Thank you great info !
My pleasure!
I use my TWIC card it also works
If I hear you correctly, if you have TSA & Global Entry privileges, ( both good for 5 years with different expirations , you can drop or not renew KTN ?
Global entry six to 12 months for interview. One day for enrollment, TSA pre next day interview and one day later KTN.
Do you have information on how Global Entry plays with Nexus? With Global Entry, Clear, and PreCheck will Nexus be still separate?
When you get Nexus, you also get Global Entry & TSA Precheck included. Not Clear, it is still separate.
Thank you for this you made my choice perfectly simple
Glad to hear it!
Your video is incomplete. It does not mention Nexus, which gives you the same benefits going into and out of Canada and includes Global Entry and TSA Pre. It was a bargain at $50 but the price recently went up to $120 for 5 years.
MPC Mobile Passport Control for us is much better than Global Entry. Almost always shorter lines.
Very CLEAR, thank you for that info!
You’re welcome 👍
You forgot the Mexican Border. Global Entry comes with SENTRI as well
The downside of applying for global entry where I live, we only have one center and it’s over 2 hours away, compared to a tsa precheck center 5 minutes away. As much as I would love to have global entry, that’s my only hesitation.
Capital One cardholders can receive a statement credit of up to $120 toward the application fee for Global Entry if they use an eligible travel card to pay the fee:
Eligibility: Cardholders are eligible for one statement credit every FOUR YEARS
Yes lines for precheck line longer most times and clear is same
