    This video explains TSA 3-1-1 Liquid & Powder Rule that is enforced for all carry-on bags at security checkpoints at the airport. I provide you with everything you need to know from items you may question to what items are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule, as well as, give a few other travel tips for your next vacation.
    • TSA Approved Liquids Bag: amzn.to/2MWkNlo

    Former TSA staff here. This video is 100% spot on. One more thing. if you don't want to get your bag checked, take out your bar soap and place them in bin. The reason is it would be picked up by the x-ray and depending on the expertise of the x-ray operator, your bag could be flagged for additional screening. Please if you have any sharp object (razor, needles) in your bag, take that out to. So many TSA agents have been injured and exposed to all kinds of things while searching the bags. And while I understand how frustrating bag checks came be, please let not forget that no one is comfortable going through your things and you have no idea the many ridiculously dangerous things people have tried to get into the plane.
    One last thing, if your bag gets pulled for additional screening, you have the right to ask for the search to be done in a private room. Same goes for a pat down.

      @Life With Lani i don't remember seeing a lot if nail polishes in my day so I really don't remember the protocol. But one thing I'm sure of is that it's better to check in your acetones and nail polish removers. Tools should be fine

    • @ray83baby
      @ray83baby 9 месяцев назад +1

      @teeeff8337 I'll advise you place them in the bin. It's not a procedure issue, but the expertise of the xray operator. If they have a rookie operator who doesn't know what a vape and/or battery looks like, they might flag your bag for an unnecessary bag check. You might want to save yourself the hassle and place it in a bin. If that makes any sense.

      @@ray83baby thanks. I actually already came back from my trip. Haven’t flown in 3 years. It was interesting, leaving out of Las Vegas, I asked if I had to take my liquids out because I didn’t see anyone else doing that, and the TSA guy said that at that airport, we no longer had to take our liquids or electronics out. They just scan your whole bag and I had no issues. On my way home from South Dakota, out of (RAP) we had to take our liquids and laptops out. I wasn’t traveling with a laptop, but I threw my vape and phone in the bin with my liquids anyway. Had no issues there either. I guess every airport is run differently now.

    I would be super cautious with using the "TSA approved" bags you get in Target or Amazon. I got one a few years ago and got through security many times with it just fine. But in June I got that one stickler agent who informed me that it was NOT approved no matter what it claims, because it was bigger than a quart size baggie. He gave me a baggie and said to put into it which items I wanted and I had to either toss the rest, or go back to the ticket counter, check my bag, then reenter security. I lost about 8 items that I had to replace at my destination, and some were not cheap. Not a fun start to a trip. Yes, it might work, just like gallon bags sometimes get through. But is it worth the risk of losing stuff over? Not to me.

    • @JeanieMarie
      @JeanieMarie  2 года назад +44

      Oh no! Sorry to hear that! You are right... it only takes one TSA agent to make or break something. Thankfully, I've traveled to 25 different countries in the past 5 years and it hasn't been an issue yet. However, it can definitely happen. Good reminder.

      If you stick to the limit of 1 litre then you can't go wrong! these people online say things that aren't true, they have to fit comfortably into a quart size bag not stuffed in .. so if you think of no more than 10 items or less 100ml each item max size ... get it is not the amount of liquid it is size of the container ... so instead of taking a 50mls in a 100ml bottle get the smaller bottle and only take the amount you need so get small jars, spray bottles, bottles etc and decant into them ..

    I haven't been to the USA since these rules were in place, but I do know that if you have prescription medication (that's a liquid/gel/cream/paste) can be brought onto the plane outside of the liquids bag in Europe. In some places you can just put them in the security bin, but some airports may want you to put it into a sepate litre/quart size plastic bag.

      1) when you got to drug stores they usually have mini shampoo bottles and deodorants would those have the measurements on the bottle when you buy them or must you measure them yourself?

      Yes the travel size bottles in the stores will have the size on them. Or I'd they are self-fill clear and don't have the Oz on it... but it's from the travel section...you'll be fine on size 😄
      If you are wanting to bring shampoo for the flight ...you won't be able to wash it on thr flight. I always bring a dry shampoo with and spray that in my hair when I need to freshing it up, before I can actually shower.

    Not sure if someone already mentioned it but if you're travelling to the USA to/from the USA. Although TSA allows ANY clear quart/1L bag. The UK only allows 20cm/20cm (1L) plastic clear zip lock bags (cannot have any depth).
    So make sure your liquids can fit in that as it tends to fit not as much. They will most likely make you put your stuff in one of their own and throw away anything that doesn't fit/all the bag to FULLY seal shut

      Larger amounts are allowed inside of checked baggage. These rules are for the carry-on bags which go in the passenger compartment. Anything put into your checked baggage that is liquid, gel or aerosol, I highly recommend that you put it inside one or two Ziploc bags! I did have one item explode on a trip, evidently because of ?rough handling or air pressure changes?

    Great video. I can't speak for the TSA, but I work as a screener with CATSA (The Canadian equivalent). At 11:05 you mention bringing frozen water - definitely not permitted for us. As a general rule, we consider the state of the item at normal room temperature, so unless it's required for medical reasons, a frozen liquid doesn't fly.
    As you suggest though, bringing your own (or a disposable) bottle to refill at a drink fountain post-security is ideal.

Every time we’ve flown I’ve struggled with packing efficiently, while still taking all that was needed. My tips - have a non-liquid toiletries/misc bag and a quart size one. Once through security, I shuffle things around so one bag is make-up, tweezers, etc and the other is liquids plus soap, razor etc (basically anything I need when bathing).
    I have a variety of sized bottles. I use more shampoo than conditioner. If going on a 3 week trip I go for the full 3.4 oz in shampoo and 2 oz conditioner. For a weekend I do 2oz and 1oz. I don't like taking half empty larger bottles because it takes up precious space in the bag. I also use old contact lens cases for face creams or serums - anything that doesn't require a full size amount. Shuffle things around like tetris.
    Zippers are easier to close than the press ziplock. Also the quart size with a flat bottom is slightly smaller in size but you're able to better fill the nooks and crannies.

      Any liquid in your checked bag doesn't need to be in 3.4 oz bottles nor does it need to be in the quart-sized bag--there is NO limits for items in your checked bag. Limits rule is only for carry-on bags. You can use any bag you want in your checked bag. The carry-on bag is the only bag that requires the quart-sized bag.
      You can bring your mini scissor and eyebrow shaver--that won't be confiscated. Put them in your checked bag and you will have no issues.
      Weight limits vary by airline, you have to check you airline's luggage size, quantity and weight limits. As a general rule most airlines have a 50 pound limit for checked bags--HOWEVER, you need to double-check that with the airline you are flying. Checked bags are typically additional fees (again you need to check your airline), and same with carry-ons, some airlines allow them for free, some charge a fee. You can only have 1 carry-on bag but checked bags you can have more than one... again be sure to double-check with you airline. Safe Travels on your move!
