TSA to implement new rules after breaches involving CLEAR

- The TSA is implementing some new screening measures after incidents involving "CLEAR." The service is available at 53 U.S. airports and allows passengers to bypass long security lines. But as CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave explains, there are some concerns about how safe and secure it is.

Still boggles my mind how a for-profit private vendor was able to become part of the security flow. I wouldn’t give them my biometric data if they paid me.
It took me way to long to find this comment. I feel the exact same way.
This
Smart person.
I came here to say exactly this.
THANK YOU!
I mean I don't really care who has my biometric data. Chances of them doing anything with it is low
The weakest link is always people. CLEAR and TSA have TONS of people I wouldn't trust to guard a lemonade stand.
Well said.
Give me a break.
Funny enough, a lemonade stand can guard itself. A girl left a lemonade stand for people to self-help and self-pay and it worked!
it's all always has been security theater.
How were flaws discovered in the Clear verification system in the first place? Hint: it was people.
CLEAR has been suspicious since the beginning, and I’ve always wondered why this was allowed in American airports.
It’s used in more than airports. Stadiums use the service too. It’s paying to skip the line in exchange to have all your travel data stored by a 3rd party. Clear gets people through the line in 2 min vs 30+ In traditional lines
All it takes is 1 bad guy, who can take advantage of this, harming innocent lifes
💰 💰 💰
The same reason why all other privacy invassive platforms in the USA have been allowed access to most people's information, control of masses.
CLEAR actually works. The issues were the employees not using the software.
“Leaving Clear’s future cloudy”👌🏾😂

If you are rich you don't have to wait in line. Private companies and Priority lines should not exist for a Federal process.

I’m glad TSA never makes mistakes and is always held accountable for their astounding work 😅😢
Glad someone else peeped the hypocrisy
lmao like 500 guns a year make it through tsa and end up in the overhead bins
@@garbygarb31 it's actually 3200 and counting...
I feel like the guy with ammo isn’t reqlly Clear’s fault. Clear doesn’t screen bags, and Clear users still have to go through TSA bag screening.
That said, I’m still in camp “how did a for-profit company get a monopoly seat in a government screening process”
Ammo and bag checking is a TSA issue, if he had pre check that MIGHT have contributed.
Right? And the Tsa already has a bad record of letting guns get through talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Well good thing you think with your feelings because you are fully correct: clear doesn't screen bags. If you want to learn how government tenders work and how private businesses provide services for the government all of the time why not use google? Also use it to look up what a monopoly means and how it differs from a tender.
I have experienced instances where Clear hijacked the TSA Pre-Check line and forced everyone to use Clear if they wanted to get through the line quickly. That is super shady because you still need TSA Pre-Check in conjunction with Clear anyways to be able to breeze through security without taking off your shoes, belt, or taking out your laptop, etc. Clear just gives you another line to reach the TSA agent which is what most airports already have for TSA Pre-Check anyhow. It's an over-priced service to encourage airports to be less efficient. Think about it, if the lines are slow and a company comes around to speed things up for a few people willing to pay exorbitant amounts then they are going to turnaround and use that money to lobby that same airport to keep the other lines slow if not make them slower. This is some mafia level extortion.
Very simple solution is to just push past them. What are they gonna do? Arrest you? Call the TSA? I'm sure the TSA would love to hear about this scam!
Oh wow.
The hustlers are real 😮$189 a year and I give my bio data away wow .
You are full of misinformation. I have tsa precheck. I never take off shoes or belts
Shoes and belts are your argument? 🤦🏽♂️🥴
Personally for me, I got clear to cut the line, not so much so I don't have to show my ID
Me too.
Same. But I've still had them pop-up random ID checks on me several times after I scanned. Either way it's a service I'll continue to pay for.
Imagine, a whole company could be taken down because a couple of lazy employees chose NOT to follow protocol.

Global Entry is $100 for a 5 year period, and also serves as a TSA Precheck which is available at all US airports. CLEAR is $189 a year and isn't available at all US airports. Case in point, when dad and I were traveling last fall, he enrolled in the CLEAR 2-week free trial at our starting airport but when coming home, he had to go on the regular security screening line because ABQ didn't have CLEAR; but they had the TSA Precheck.
I was fine with tsa precheck until the airport I fly out of condensed all the pre check lines into one and it made the line too long. It was so frustrating! With my Amex card I was able to get clear for $109, but they recently raised the price. Next time I fly i am going to see if they added more pre check lines.
Good luck getting global entry. Had it thru Nexus, applied for global entry by itself; it's been 1 year and still have not been contacted by CBP.
But ABQ have something better... Walter White..
Interesting thing that I learned using Global Entry returning from Montreal to ATL this past February. BRING YOUR CARD. Global Entry acts as a sort of Canadian TSA Precheck coming back to the States but you need your physical card to show the agent. Traveling to/from Europe you don’t need your card, just your Passport. But for some reason Canadian security needs to see the physical card. No card means going through standard security - probably would have saved me about 30 minutes in line. I survived, but like, whatever lol
@@trainsplanesandotherthings5187 We so miss Walter White, don’t we?
Who would have ever thought that attaching a profit motive to security screening would lead to security breaches?

You know they make just above the minimum wage.
💯The same can be said for voting machines🤷🏾
@@TheWallReportsWrong. You can make a piece of critical equipment. You can’t keep or sell the data and control the whole process (Clear).
Well they made their money from this scam. Now it's time to sell people's biometric data to the highest bidder.
It's not that Clear isn't secure, they take your fingerprint and eye scan and have your id on file, etc. It's that their readers sometimes don't work or are slow and a Clear employee just passes you through without a proper check in order to hurry things along. It's just a training issue with Clear.
Thank you or providing a realistic explanation.
Well Captain Obvious, that has nothing to do with what we're talking about. There might be people on these planes who are trying to seek citizenship elsewhere. Is there any doubt as to whether I'm ready to make any sacrifice to ensure that none of them need to make any risks in order to get a Chinese citizenship, including ESPECIALLY that one of you extremists would dare to board a plane in your lives?
They should just get rid of it then
Yeah, plus you still have to go through security. It's just an alternate ID check. These people would've made it just as far... to an ID check, because that's all Clear is.

What does Clear have to do with ammo found in a bag? They don’t check bags. Their only concern is identification.
Nothing. I have no idea why they mentioned that. It has nothing to do with CLEAR
That's a good point

Often times, CLEAR line is longer than pre-TSA due to lack of workers at CLEAR.
This was the case at DCA on Christmas. Clear line was longer than regular line
CLEAR in general has been annoying for me. I worked at an airport where 1 tsa agent would be checking IDs for wheelchair, employees, first class, and it was the clear line. Clear would always go first cause they payed, leaving every one else waiting and angry
Uh, that's how exactly how Clear works. I suppose this concept is to complicated for you to understand as you can't even spell "paid" correctly.
@@hose3462No, clear is supposed to have their own line. Rewarding morons that willingly hand out the biometric data is the issue.
@@billbillerton6122No, they only have a different line for the biometric verification. It’s the same line once past the ID check.
So, I use CLEAR and have been for years. Simply having to show the TSA official your ID is not going to delay the process by more than a few seconds. And you still have to go through the checkpoint. How is this an issue?
Do you still have to submit your carry on bag to security? If I have to do that it's not worth it. The tsa precheck lines aren't a long wait.
It's a few seconds multiplied by hundreds of people. Checking someone's ID takes roughly 15 seconds. It's going to add up really quickly.
@@dannydaw59 yes, you go though TSA security in the same manner. CLEAR just skips you to the front of the TSA precheck line (or regular line if you don’t have precheck). I think it’s worth the price, especially in airports like LGA.
having CLEAR members show id is wrong.
The whole point is that your ID is already verified. It's why bars that check ID at the door don't ID everybody at the counter every single time. It would take too long.
I’ll stick with Global Entry, which includes Pre-Check. Awesome services for a great price!
CLEAR is different than Global Entry and Precheck. CLEAR eliminates the domestic flight security line UNTIL you get to the checkpoint. That’s the benefit - no line to get to the agent checking your boarding pass an ID.
@@dees9502 and Clear costs more. With Pre-Check I go to a short line and walk through a metal detector without having to remove any clothing or any electronics, and when I return from abroad, I walk by everyone waiting in line for customs. I don’t even have to scan my passport. A facial scan alerts the border agents. They call my name, and I walk right on through.
@dees9502 I'm sure it's not always the case, but in my experience, the TSA Pre/Global Entry is no more than about a 5-10 person wait to check my ID. And I usually need that time to guzzle down the coffee I forgot was still in my travel mug 😂
Me too. Can't complain about Global Entry. 😊
@@dees9502 The same with Global Entry. All you have to do is have your DL give to the TSA agent and your done. Wenr to ATL to a concert no problems getting thru .
Just get rid of clear and expand TSA pre check. (Eg add biometrics for pre check or additional pre check lanes). Do we really need a second expedited line?
Why can't all live reports have this kind of exchange.
It sounds like there is a....CLEAR issue here 😂😂

Sounds like a hit piece. Used CLEAR for years, heck when it started. You always have to show ID and Boarding Pass to the TSA check point. PLUS the Ammo Bag is not their job to check.
This is not correct. One of the main benefits of using it is not having to show ID. You do get those "random" ID checks occasionally, but their whole premise is using biometrics to ID.
I love Clear and have used it many times! It has been crucial when you have minutes to make a connection.
I personally saw a Clear Agent do this two weeks ago at the MIA airport while I was in waiting in the TSA pre check line. The Clear Agent stopped me and brought thru 3 people. The TSA agent said to the Clear Agent, only one is Clear and where are the passes for the other two? He turned the other two away and called me. The Clear Agent started to escort the other two across barrier to the regular TSA line but with no boarding pass. I didn’t see what ended up happening but I can believe it.
I saw a similar thing this past Wednesday at the SEA airport (Checkpoint #1).
CLEAR works, but you can't trust the employees
Regardless you still have to go through the security screening. You just get to skip the line.
I sign up for the free trials before travelling, and I was able to get through a 6 hour line in Denver, in only 5 minutes. I hope they fix it.
That's an amazing timer saver
I travel alot through DIA. NEVER had a 6 hour line. What you talking about? Lmao
@@pappadudat628earlier this summer their we’re insane lines at DIA.

@@user-fd8vu2yl1f It was amazing. After getting in line and realizing I was not making my flight, a Clear employee came up and asked if anyone wanted a free trial. I had one before, so all I had to do was swipe a credit card, get my retinas checked and I was through!
I have Clear, it lets me cut the line, but the TSA agent still asks for my ID and ticket. So it seems like a failure on the TSA agent?
I travel frequent enough that any time saved is worth it to me. By the end of the year I would’ve done over 125k miles flying. Plus, Amex Platinum reimburses for it, so it’s a no brainer for me.
Fine by me, I use pre-check and I observe CLEAR employees regularly helping their clients cut the id screened pre-check line, when they should be queuing as well at that point. I actually had a real difficult time getting through pre-check at O’hare last January due to CLEAR cutting the queue I was in. Fortunately TSA eventually saw this and helped get me and a few others thru screening.
They will still be moving to the front of the pre-check queue line but will have to have their photo ID verified now and that will add more time on to the precheck queue.
They even explain this in the video that you are commenting on.
Being able to cut the line is the point of the service, if that’s an issue for you then pay for the service…
They’re supposed to cut past the ID check of pre-check, that’s point of the service.
At PHX as an employee we go through the pre check line and having clear people cut the lines when you’re trying to get to work is super frustrating. It’s part of the reason I quit working at the airport despite good pay, benefits and tons of overtime because of employee shortages
If clear is such a special service, they should have their own line @@theconcertaholic
I have not been in an airport since I retired over 8 years ago and I don't miss all of the hoopla. I used air-travel for 30 years for business and if I never have to set foot on another plane or waste money at an airport again I'll be very happy. Besides, those kiosks look like urinals for really tall people.
Clear is another money making scheme by a private outfit. I thought the point of TSA was to ensure passenger safety after 9/11. Pre 9/11 most security was private contract with no clear cut standard on security. We saw how that worked out.
The point of the TSA was to create a jobs program and sell expensive scanners
@@benholloway6985 Well it was Geo Bush’s idea….
CBS News should make it CLEAR that not all 5000 US Airports have TSA checkpoints...
I’ve appreciated the service, especially for work travel. Perhaps, have out photos pop up on screen so the Clear Rep can verify. We need to catch up with other counties.
In the UK, when returning home back to the states, I had to show my passport and show my face. Why can't they just do that at TSA? CLEAR can continue to contract equipment, but TSA would ultimately be operating it.
TSA has their own equipment. I scan my Apple Wallet and scan my face and I’m let in to screening. I’m always flying out of Phx.
Makes sense, CBP already has a similar setup with their Global Entry kiosks at US Immigration
Not a big deal having to show an ID. Still very fast and a good value as you get through as fast as pilots.
Great reporting!!
. As a frequent flier with at times many flights a month, I did receive the random check request most of the time when at Clear. No issue in my having to present my driver's license. Was less convenient when I was asked to re enter my profile information on two or three occasions.
Did not receive from Clear at the time any ressoning as to why the many random checks. And reentry of profile info which took time. Thanks to your reporting, now all explained.
Obviously the employee did not compare the picture associated with the person as it appears on the screen after using the biometric scan against the live person.
So why the panic? None made it onto a plane. That’s TSA’s job. Make things easier to go faster and be on the lookout. If they had failed to stop a person from boarding a plane then ok. One out of the 2 cases was their own agent. The other TSA themselves waved the person through but that person with ammo also didn’t ultimately get on a plane neither. They should just try and patch up the loopholes somehow without compromising the very point of the app or program.
Would never pay $189 per year for CLEAR, but AMEX Platinum gives it to me for free. I have TSA Pre AMEX also gives me for free. Take note. If you just have CLEAR and not TSA PRE, all CLEAR does is get you to the front of the TSA line where you still have to take off your shoes etc.
I've used clear in Orlando, Atlanta, and San Francisco Airports. Each time the agent goes through the ID process (retinal scan or fingerprints) and walks me to the TSA agent. The TSA agent then goes through their process of asking for my driver's license and compares that to my boarding pass... Its still on TSA to ensure the traveler is authorized through the check point. All clear does is skip the line so you get to the agent quicker.
The graphics department really showing how bad the Clear value proposition is now. The giant "only 1% of airports have this", immediately followed by the price comparison of Clear vs PreCheck.
I've definitely noticed an increase in the random checks with Clear. Was flying SFO to PHX and PHX to ORD, got random checked 2 out of 3 times that I went through during that trip
The last 5 flights I took required ID. I messaged clear. They said it was a tsa screening issue. What they didn't say was they caused it.

I admit, I love clear. Even if I have to show ID. Clear with TSA precheck is a 10minute process at worst. I had one instance when there was a lack of clear employees, but that was once. It's worth it for me
Yeah same. I’d be happy to show my ID every time because it gets me to the front. One of my credit cards pays for precheck and clear, so it’s not costing anything.
I have regular TSA precheck without Clear, and I usually get through security within 5 minutes. I think the longest ever was 15 minutes, and I fly in and out of some of the busiest airports in the U.S. For me the extra $189 isn't worthing shaving two minutes off of my wait time.
I agree. Every minute/second saved through the process is worth it for me. I show my ID every time I get to the front of the line…didn’t know I didn’t have to, so I’ll gladly show ID. Same as above, my CC company gives me clear for free, so it’s free for me.
@@bjgamez Yeah, if it were free to me, I might do the same. My credit card pays for TSA precheck and I think they give a discount for Clear, but since I still pay for some of the residual cost, I'll wait the extra minute to get through the precheck line. At the airports I use, Clear would change my processing time from 5 minutes to 3 minutes, so that doesn't seem like a $100 savings to me. Not criticizing you or your decision--totally valid--just different circumstances.

3 errors? Probably a lot fewer than the TSA made in the same time period.
PTL CBS…good reporting; informative, thank you for sharing 💯💌!
I have Clear and Pre-check and I mostly find the combo valuable, but sometimes Clear is the bottleneck. TSA and some airlines now offer to store biometrics to speed up the security line, and they work fairly well. When those services are fully rolled out, Clear will lose value. Clear filled a security gap for TSA and now that TSA can do what Clear does, they no longer have a need for Clear. I’m sure they’re chomping at the bit to do away with those contracts. The real problem, for those of us who bought into it, is that Clear now owns a hefty pile of our valuable biodata.
At the same time I’m not sure that TSA holding our biodata is any better.
Why would you willingly give out that data in the first place?
I don't fly much anymore, but when I do it's out of LAX. In observing the lines, I don't see much, if any, advantage between Clear and Pre-Check/Global Entry (which I am part of). If Clear saves you a couple minutes, what's the big deal? You should come to the airport early anyway, in case of anything unexpected. If now with Clear you have to show your ID twice, instead of once just using the TSA line, what's the advantage of that?
In Atlanta, clear has become so popular that it's longer than TSA pre check.
I strongly oppose schemes like Clear, where for additional fees you can get preferential treatment. TSA is a government catastrophe. We all fund it with our tax dollars. Cutting security lines isn’t something you should be able to pay extra for.
Put the employee in prison and put the Passenger in prison
It's still worth it if you have to show your ID. You're still getting to the front of the line. Maybe like 15-20 more seconds?
However, they really should address the incompetent employees who are just letting people through. Imagine if TSA did that if someone's ID wasn't valid.
Terrorists rarely board planes as customers, they usually have id and are employees
The TSA lets people thru with invalid ID/no ID all the time. People lose/forget their ID or it unknowingly expires for them all the time. But those people then have to go thru selected for secondary security screening (SSSS).
At the end of the day, companies like CLEAR need to pay higher wages to their frontline workers to make hiring more competitive and attract folks with actual security backgrounds. I see kids (19/20 year olds onboarding new CLEAR customers and manning their lines)..That's not going to cut it for the particular line of work that their in (keeping ppl from taking planes down)!
It’s sad that we need pre-check for the pre-check line. In my experience the regular TSA line is 9/10 faster or nearly the same as pre check line. It’s kinda like ez-pass tolls, once everyone has one, the ez-pass “express” lane now causes traffic whereas the cash toll lane is empty. Also most times the regular TSA line is told to keep everything in your bag. The only differences at this point is taking off belts and shoes, and needing to use the body scanner. I’ll pass on paying $100s of dollars for the privilege of giving up my biometrics & marginal benefits.
I use pre-check more for the easier and less invasive security. Keep most of my clothes on and no microwave scanners.
@@zacharybohlman4069 yeah I think that’s why many people do sign up for pre check. Though I’m curious what clothing would you taking off beyond a belt and shoes? I go through with a sweater/pullover/hoodie etc all the time no issue. Heck more frequently they are letting us keep shoes on.
You obviously haven’t seen the difference in lines of Pre-Check and regular TSA at busy airports then. Because pre-check, in my experience, is by far shorter.
I LOVE Clear. But they need to make sure their employees are doing their jobs, obviously a big issue if they are not...
Only two mis-verified over 130 million? Really wonder what else was overlooked.
Having Clear plus Pre-Check has come in handing many time especially traveling through Denver. I’ll be keeping mine.
If you fly out of Newark or Miami, it's still worth it to have Clear because you get to go the front of the TSA line which can be quite lengthy at those two airports.
Clear users have to go through tsa, so their bags still get looked at. I use clear and I don’t feel showing id is going to be a hassle. My airport now only has one tsa pre check line, so it’s not as fast as it used to be.
This sure seems like "a friend of a friend" is involved in this TSA and CLEAR
Most of the time the TSA Pre line goes faster than CLEAR anyway. Not worth the $180/year in my opinion.
Depends on the airport, SFO and SEA I managed to frontload past standard PreCheck via Clear
I don't care about having my ID checked as long as the line is much shorter. It combined with Precheck is what it prefer
How is clear even a protocol for travel?
Meanwhile, I'm still leaning heavily towards TSA Pre-Check. I always seem to be "randomly searched" even though I stopped wearing jewelry, I keep my keys and metals in the carryon and not on my person and I wear as little as I can to not set off the alarms. I'd have to pay extra but my peace of mind is more important.
I've had Global Entry for a few years. It comes with Pre-Check and it's 100% worth it in my experience.

Someone used a boarding pass out of the trash? They never thought that might happen when designing this? If it is based on biometrics how did the used boarding pass person get through?
This is a minor blip. I’ve been subject to a few random ID checks with clear this month but found no significant difference. People in the long security line still glare at me.
Both the airport and TSA are government services funded by the tax money. It boggles me that a private company is able to sell service to do line cutting (that’s all what clear gives you, cutting the pre check lines if you are unaware).
Or think of it the other way - you pay for TSA pre-check (a government service) and then someone pays a private company to cut YOUR line and DELAY your entry.
I’ve been using Clear since it began. This is total tiny-brained bureaucratic muscle-flexing. Clear does not screen luggage or passenger body. It merely removes the authentication process of a person’s identity from the TSA.
How is removing the biggest passenger bottle neck in all of US mass transportation "tiny-brained bureaucratic muscle-flexing?"

@@maxrobespierre9176 Old man, there are several layers to pre check and the id verification layer is by far the longest part of pre check. It's not putting your bag on the belt, leaving everything inside your bag, leaving your jacket on and walking thru the metal detector.
Why doesn't the machine check biometrics AND scan your ID?
It does check your biometrics.
The security checkpoint person isn't just doing some clerk job of scanning your ID. They're also looking for strange acting people to flag them for additional checks. If they start looking closer at your ID and if you get nervous, you will get flagged. 😆 Keep perfectly calm, or miss your flight! ✈

Confused on how CLEAR has anything to do with the person who brought ammunition in. They still go through TSA, just skip the line pretty much. I have CLEAR without TSA-Precheck. It was never CLEAR's job to stop that person, just verify they are who they say they are.
Some wrong w the idea of paying to bypass security.
This is why you don't let private companies act as security.
It used to be that way. From what I understand they were paid less than tsa and had a higher turnover.
dumb socialist insight that makes no sense. governments are even worse at it.
Showing an ID is such a problem? No, taking your shoes off is a pain 😖😖😖😖
TSA would like to check your foot odor.... 😆
At the end of every day, anybody who is involved with security, needs to ask themselves, "Today, did I stop a bad guy or did I just hassle a good guy?"
The two people demonstrated a flaw in Clear's process that Clear did not want to... clarify. It was a known issue, and rather than be traditional whistleblowers, they proved it right away.
CLEAR is a waste of money and will eventually go away for good if these incidents happen. Regardless everyone gets screen the same doesn’t matter how fast you cut the line. The price increased to be a Clear member yearly now and now to be screened showing their id’s every time 😂
When clear was getting started I watched a video if a lady saying how shady it was and that it just wasn’t worth it for the amount of info you give them. Glad is listened. Wild they were even allowed to breach safety measures like this.
You still have to go through the TSA officer before the breach. It just get you faster to the TSA guards who will screen you anyway
I think there is alot of confusion on how Clear works. I have been to multiple airports and have both tsa-pre and clear. 1. You go to the Clear machine and get scanned. Once it verifies you, an agent takes you straight up to a TSA agent. This essentially only allows you to skip people waiting in the TSA and TSA precheck line. 2. The TSA agent STILL will ask for boarding pass and I.D. before I can go through security scanning. The only time I did not get asked for both is if the airport was integrated with the real I.D. system. At those times I only needed to show my I.D. and not boarding pass. Can someone please share their experiences? Is this not what normally happens?
They really thought that would work?
CLEAR = CLOUDY! I always thought CLEAR made things insecure! We'll see how that works. People will always work to discover ways around the system.
CLEAR is something that shouldn't be run by a corporation - the TSA needs to do its job.
What’s the difference between CLEAR and TSA Pre-check?
Pre-check is offered through the government and CLEAR is run by a private corporation
CLEAR cuts you to the front of the TSA/TSA pre-check line. TSA Pre-check is a program from TSA where you can get them to do a background check on you and in return, if you pass, get a to use the Pre-Check line which usually lets you through without taking off your shoes, belt and no longer have to take your laptop out of your backpack (except in cases of "random" extra screening) AND the pre-check line is usually a lot shorter and faster than the normal line as well.
In my experience at Las Vegas airport:
TSA line only: 10-20 mins
Precheck only: 5-10mins
Clear + TSA line: 5-10 mins
Clear + Precheck : less than 5mins
@@randallanno2327Great summary. It is shocking to me that a private company is allowed to charge people for the privilege of cutting a public line. I’m waiting for a “TSA-VIP” at this point just to make it even more absurd. I love my Pre-Check, but it is still a line and no one cuts the line. The line is just shorter and I carry so many laptops/tablets/handhelds with me, removing them from my bag would be a nightmare.
Two misses out of 150M which eventually get caught ? I could live with that “risk”
Actually it’s two KNOWN misses out of 150M, which were caught eventually.
Don’t know how many misses actually got through. But been a happy customer of CLEAR for 3 years now, been positive experience for me
@@kwfown Thanks for the clarification.
“A change that could potentially leave Clear’s future Cloudy”
lol
This is what happens when you privatize government agencies.
“Leaving Clear’s future… cloudy” - it’s like journalists go to school to write terrible puns your mom would like.
It takes nothing to get a CLEAR membership other than a couple of bucks in your wallet. And they want us to believe that someone going through their system are more secure than someone who had to be vetted by the Homeland Security before getting TSA-Precheck? Gimme a break!
Because Clear isn't vetting you for anything other than verifying your ID...
I warned people about 9/11 on 9/10/2001 and they still patted me down.
Have TSA pre-check and tried Clear, it only saved about an extra 1 min over TSA Precheck.
So first, they created a problem by not having enough TSA staff and making ridiculous long lines, but now you can PAY for a faster track through. Isn't that BS when you are already paying for the flight? Talk about being Nickled and Dimed. We shouldn't have bailed them out.
i'm sorry but isn't that a tsa issue not doing their due diligence to check and make sure these people were actually clear verified.... i would not trust a clear agent to tell me how to do my job, i would scan the pass and if it says clear i say ok you clear but if it says not clear i say sorry get over to that other security line and get bodyscanned bc you aint clear
The only thing the agents know is if you are precheck or standard. Clear is only supposed to bring up people who are clear passengers using biometric data to verify it’s them
@@robertct06 i’ve never used clear, so the clear people just escort you to like the front of the line or something, or let you pass through security without having bags checked?
@@nikeprojock you still go through security but if the security line has a line they take you to the front of the line where they check ids
It’s because they try to sell people on getting the subscription. They tell you to test it out, try to rush you through and have you set up an account so you can be charged later but of course you can cancel the free trial before being charged
This is way overblown. It’s not like you bypass security. You still have to go through the same security screening.
You shouldn't be able to "cut" through security lines... wait like everyone else!
I never have to wait. I have Global Entry which automatically includes TSA Precheck. That line is always shorter and due to the way you get screened (no scanner, no unpacking of items) it also moves faster. Am I “cutting” in front of non TSA PreCheck users? Maybe you should advocate to remove the stupid non-PreCheck nonsense which is nothing but security theater instead of getting mad at others.
@BlownMacTruck so you can wear your shoes the whole time and not unpack your laptop? Just a simple xray?
Money talks. Period.
Just a simple xray

@@PS-mv7it Yes. Where have you been for the past ten years?
As a CLEAR user myself, they have always checked my ID, (Drivers License), against my boarding pass at the CLEAR machine and when I am being zippered into the front of the line. This is an issue of TSA not checking IDs not something inherent to CLEAR.
My ID isn’t always checked but my retinas or finger prints are. I don’t get how this happened.
What’s clear is Congresses total ineptitude towards keeping people safe. But hay, they got the sound bits down for companies working toward that goal everyday.
I had a clear membership last year and did NOT renew it this year….tested my luck and was still was able to use the service even without an active membership🤔
Defund TSA. I would rather walk anyways. Never know when a pilot is going to die suddenly.
All while TSA misses like 97% of their internal audits 😂
