    When younger the Goliath trying learn more about his heritage, sets off to a mountain that used to be considered sacred amongst stone giants until it was abandoned, but no one is sure why. When you get up about halfway you see a shrine. You walk up to it feeling strange ,it's like the crystal and stone the shrine is made of is alive with energy. You hear a voice in your head telling you that if you accept their gift and their trials you will gain the relationship and understanding of your distant giant kin. that would be the back story I'd go with for this character. What do think of the one dnd Goliath and how would you build with it. It would go really well with the slow warlock, allowing you to drop an opponents speed 30 feet in one turn.

    So, I have been looking at a melee warlock build and also at a celestial warlock build. Since coming onto your channel, I’ve really begun to love the idea of the Goliath as a race for tanking on the frontlines, which is so cool.
    This build has some unreal synergies, and I’m loving it! Thanks for the inspiration!

      Sadly, this one doesnt work as gift of the ever living ones triggers off rolling dice to regain hit points, and vampiric touch rolls damage dice but gives hitpoints equal to the damage. But a friendly DM might well just let you roll for the damage but get the max possible heal, because it seems fitting.

    I remember when I played warlock for the first time what I always ended up doing was using mold earth or shape water to create 3/4's cover then casting darkness to give myself heavy obscurement. This meant I had a +5 to AC and dex saves in addition to making any attack that requires sight to just not work automatically in addition to attack at advantage. It pissed my DM off to no end because the druid would use spike growth meaning most melee enemies couldn't even get close while the enemy ranged fighters had to rely on AOE spells if they had them like fireball which I have a +5 on the save against.

    dropped out of Strixhaven, was helping his relatives at the family stone quarry, when there was a bad blizzard, his uncle said to pack up the tools and come up from the open pit, he was setting up the ladder to climb up, when he thought he heard a weird whinny, there was a unicorn foal who had somehow fallen in to the pit, he carried it back up, set its leg in his uncle's spare bedroom, then helped it rejoin the herd, and the alpha unicorn did that touching its horn to his forehead thing, and now he's a warlock

    I discovered your channel few days ago and I'm hooked since then. You focus more on concept and coolness than broken combos and math (which I hate), so kudos for that.
    That being said, what I don't like about this builds is the habit to use Point Buy and go 15-15-15-8-8-8. Sure you'll have a powerful character, but how are you going to roleplay having three negative ones? I'd be cool if you could describe how the Ability Point distribution would affect you PC, or at least make characters with less extreme distributions.

  • @a.z.pantera5577
    @a.z.pantera5577 Год назад +7

    This build really needs to take the Moderately Armored feature if you aren't multiclassing. Yeah you can soak damage with Stone's Endurance, but you can only do that so many times, especially early levels. Armor of Agathys would be a worthy investment for spells, since it scales, gives you temp HP, and deals damage when hit. Also I wouldn't focus too heavily on melee, given that your only finesse option here is a Dagger if you aren't going Pact of the Blade. You can also cast Sacred Flame at melee range since it's a saving throw.

    • @williaminnes6635
      @williaminnes6635 Год назад

      Heavy Armor Master seems sweet if you're going down the path of maximizing Armor of Agathys and you're taking a dip. If that's Fighter, Second Wind and Stone's Endurance both also reload on short rests with your Warlock spells, proficiency in constitution saves seems really good, and you get a fighting style. Paladin gets you Compelled Duel, but that takes a two level dip, and then you are into Eldricht Mind or Warcaster to boost your concentration.

    So here's a warlock build I had on the back burner for a while.
    The Shadow Knight.
    A half-elf woman who cried out for vengeance after the death of her only friend was also a Priests of Anubis.
    She was presented a long sword to seek out retribution against those who prayed on the weak and maintain the balance of life and death!
    You can choose whether you want your first level in draconic sorcerer or hexblade Warlock but either way you'll be taking 19 levels in Warlock pact of the blade.
    Max out charisma first followed by dexterity.
    Followed by Constitution wisdom intelligence and dumping strength.
    By the time we're done before magic items you will find out Shield putting your Armor class to 20.
    But if you ever lose all of your gear you will still have an 18 in your AC and Eldridge blast /pact weapon in back pocket.
    As far as feats go take gift of the metallic dragon and maybe tough if you've rolled well.
    And if you want to play the comedic angle you can run her as the Paladin's impulsive and lethal adopted little sister.
    For a game of good cop / Crazy Cop!

    I'd consider some THP sources for when celestial radiance isn't in effect. Fiendish Vigor may provide some mileage early on. Armor of Agathys is good when you're dealing with melee enemies [probably has better synergy better with earth genasi]. Inspiring leader could be a great feat for this [also improves your familiar's durability to keep the GotELO invocation in effect], same with the healer feat. And Tomb of Levistus is a great panic button if you get nuked/swarmed, Losing a turn while saving your current hp is better than potentially losing a turn and dropping to 0, since generally you're making someone else lose their turn reviving you.
    Also when strategically deployed, Guardian of Faith can be great. It isn't concentration, lacks friendly 'fire', is less resisted, controls more space, leaves your bonus action free and deals more immediate damage. Also it could be super fun to combo it with repelling blast and grasp of hadar in your repertoire, or even pair that combination with flaming sphere, be the holy shepherd guiding your enemies movement. Bonus points if you have an ally with PAM and/or sentinel reactions. Cloak of Flies invocation could also provide a disincentive to enemies approaching your space.
    I'd consider 1-3 levels of barbarian, bear totem or ancestral guardian if you go to 3. Alternatively, if your hp is getting low, beast barbarian fang for could help keep you recover or tail to block attacks since stone's endurance is limited. If you take barbarian at level 1 you get medium armor and con save prof, also get shield prof and unarmored defense whenever you take it. Could start with 14 14 14 8 9 16 or 13 14 15 8 9 16. Could attempt to grapple-drag enemy into Guardian of -Space- Faith's AoE. Take tavern brawler for a shield bash attack/unarmed strike followed up with a bonus action grapple-drag. Could flavor it as hooking the enemy with your shepherd's crook. This could be problematic if you also treat the Crook as a quarterstaff/war hammer since you're grappling w/o a free hand, so you may need to ditch the shield if you want to grapple -although that weapon should be effectively shutdown if used in this manner, making this issue largely moot.

    Celestial warlock is a hugely underrated subclass.
    Instead of taking booming blade consider taking green flame blade. It benefits from the Celestial warlock level 6 feature.
    As for warlock's reaction, take warcaster instead of eldritch mind. Use those reactions to swat nearby enemies with green flame blade or booming blade opportunity attacks.
    If you're multiclassing, 2 levels of paladin gives this character concept a lot of tools. Sticking with warlock after 6 is valid, but going 2 paladin 6 warlock and then dumping the rest of your levels into sorcerer is worth considering. Take dragon bloodline, or the pyromancy sorcerer from the Planeshift Kaladesh pdf, or any sorcerer subclass that catches your eye. Dragon might be a little more tanky. Pyro may deal a little more fire damage.

    @hrcarinae3625 Год назад +3

    Uh...this build has 15 AC. That isn't even slightly tanky - a basic hexblade has 19 AC (while having access to the shield spell). AC is worth more than HP, because as the percentage of enemy hits decreases, your damage taken is reduced proportionally to 1/AC. For example, an enemy with a +6 to hit is hitting a 15 AC character 60% of the time, whereas that enemy is hitting a 19 AC character 40% of the time. This means that the 15AC character is taking 50% more damage than the 19AC warlock. While this warlock might have more total HP due to goliath, that HP is not going nearly as far as it would on a regular hexblade, where each individual point of HP is basically worth ~50% more.
    Overall, I do not expect this warlock to live very long, especially since it is melee oriented, has terrible WIS saves, and low survivability. At least, this build should take Moderately Armored at level 4. Seriously, it's one of the most powerful feats in the game, an increase in AC from 15 to 19 is almost equivalent to having the shield spell up permanently (as well as giving you a half-asi!). People need to take it more often.

      Fair, but the health does help. I'd suggest picking up Armor of Agathys, which has great synergies with your stone's endurance and makes your lower AC something of an advantage, since you only proc the damage if you get hit. take a level dip in Cleric to start for your Wisdom saves, martial weapon proficiency (medium armor and shields if the AC is still bothering you) and whatever cool or flaverfull domain ability you want.

      I love cleric dipping on my warlocks fr fr. Problem with AoA's that it might eat up too many spell slots, you really don't have too many on a warlock. Also AoA doing only damage to melee enemies is a bit sad imo i wish it worked on ranged ones too :(

      @@hrcarinae3625 In this case (wishing AoA working on ranged), while we would than be unable take goliath, if pick wild hunt shifter (maybe also pick up the athlete feat) you can play around with prone, now they have to come to play (with you in melee) (I know the temp hp is akward). Just a fun idea, also if you have the stats reckless barb is right around the corner.

    Anyone else check their play speed in confusion?
    This video feels so unnatural.

    Why Dex-based weapons? Because of armor proficiencies? There are ways to mitigate that. I always find it weird when people choose a race and then play against type. Goliaths are known for their strength and durability, not their agility or speed. What does that even look like? A tall grey basketball player type? High Dex, low Str? I just don't understand the push for Dex builds all the time. Goliaths don't get racial proficiencies in finesse weapons and neither do warlocks. You're going Pact of the Chain, so where are you getting your finesse weapon proficiency? (I rewatched the video to see if I missed something and I didn't.) Are you using a dagger? Now for my confession. My Str based version also is confined to simple weapons because I didn't think of it either. So weapon damage is stuck at d6 for mace or handaxe. And I'm using an ASI (@ 4th lvl most likely) to grab the medium armored feat for medium armor and shields proficiency as well as a +1 to Str or Dex. The rest of my ASIs are needed to boost Cha or Con.
