You can start your build out of the gate at level 1 with the Astral Drifter background, which nets you the Magic Initiate (Cleric) feat, letting you take Shield of Faith that represents your orbiting swarm as a defensive shield, and the Light Cantrip so you could take Shillelagh later on.
I have a Spore Druid Astral Self Monk Plasmoid I’m playing in a Spell Jammer game, which I treat as a sentient mold colony at the center of a living cloud of spores that form the many different effects of this class combo.

Yes, first two levels are Spore Druid, the rest Astral Self. It’s ridiculously complicated to actually use it in combat, between Halo automatic damage and Astral Arms + Awakened Halo damage, so my DM gifted him an enchanted musket (+1, deals an extra 1d6 acid per hit) so I went Gunk, but realistically at the top end he would automatically deal 2d4 necrotic (halo) followed by 5 attacks dealing 1d10+5 force (arms)+ 1d6 necrotic (awakened halo) every turn until he runs out of Ki, then dropping to halo + 3 attacks without Ki. He’s a brute. I like to shape him like a cube and chase people at Monk speed! Took Primal Savagery so he can “eat” people by “licking” them with stomach acid. Would do Faerie Fire at lower levels by “igniting his spores”, and use Thorn Whip as a pseudo pod that hits things and pulls them in. One of my more fun builds.

Hanging onto the sling and adding in sharpshooter would be an excellent way to increase damage and range. But overall it's a fun build with some great flavor that I will definitely have to keep in mind for some of my other builds.

For this build I would go with Custom Lineage (artificer initiate) to pick up magic stone as an Int based cantrip, then I’d go Wizard all the way to pick up things like Melfs minute meteor, crown of stars, meteor swarm
If the table allows dunamancy stuff I’d probably go Graviturgy and get all the fun gravity spells
If not, I’d go evocation so I could meteor swarm my party without hurting them.
Pick up crusher and telekinesis feats along the way and reflavor wizard spells as manipulations of gravity/asteroids like you’re doing here
If you grabbed sharpshooter, the sling would double the thrown range for magic stone too

    • @TheElectrikCow
      @TheElectrikCow 11 месяцев назад +1

I thought it was gonna go in this direction at first because of those three spells as well, but I just realized that this is even better than I thought it would be because it means I could finally have the build I've been wanting to make for a long time that uses Catapult as a core spell. I might honestly go Bladesong as my subclass, but I would flavor my bladesong as forming a gravity field around myself that makes it easier for me to move and projectiles or weapons get sucked into my personal orbit making them harder to hit me. This way you can get extra attack, and when you make your second attack you can replace it with Firebolt and flavor it as a more powerful version of your magic stone. The only thing that sucks about this is that your Song of Victory is totally useless in this build, but you could potentially still get use out of it.
It is a difficult decision to make though, because I truly do love the idea of having a swarm of asteroids floating around you, and while you could flavor this direction similarly, it wouldn't have the same effect without the mechanics backing it up I think

I've thought about a similar build of Gravity Knight. Something like Starscourge Radahn from Elden Ring. And the best thing for this is Armorer artificer. This subclass has thunder wave, catapult, shatter, vortex warp etc. You can reflavour them as gravity waves. Artificer has access to Magic Stone as well and since sling is a simple weapon you're proficient with it and you also can attack twice using your intelligence. Add up crusher feat and you are an awesome battlefield controller now.

I actually ran a slightly tweaked version of this concept for a Christmas one shot. She was a Githzerai instead of astal elf, mainly to lean into the telekinetic fighter angle rather than space. It was remarkably effective. Flavoured the Shield spell as consolidating the rocks to form a barrier. A lot of fun, great work.

For a magic stone build, I'm going goblin and battle smith artificer, i know it sounds strange but you ride your defender and on turns where you don't have your bonus action to command the steel defender it takes the dodge action allowing you to cast magic stone and attack twice at level 5 you can also add a bit of extra damage with furry of the small. Love the flavor of your build.

I had a Kobold Druid/Ranger swarm keeper who was protecting the grave of a fallen Green Dragon. So her flavor was the spirit of the Green Dragon helping the Kobold who protected her resting place. The "Swarm" was ghostly projecting of the Green Dragon materializing.
My DM gave each of us a free feat to start and I took Sharpshooter to use with a Sling and Magic Stone to give me 120 ft range and a damage bump of I could hit with that -5.

As someone who's introduction to DnD was Spelljammer I absolutely love space dnd. With that said, one of my favorite builds is actually a Warformed Twilight Cleric with the Astral Drifter background.
The concept is that he is basically a medical Droid but one that actually met the diety in charge of Astral Space. This diety gave him a mission to protect and guide people as they traverse the Astral Sea. I choose twilight Cleric as it represents the emptiness of space really well.
I also have a space pirate Thri-Keen that is a Fey Wanderer Ranger to really play into the survival on the fringes of space while leaning into the fear that Pirates/Fey can invoke.

I’ve thought about Magic Stone a lot. A lot of people do not understand how it works and think you can Extra Attack. Best option I’ve seen is for a Rogue that wants to attack with a casting stat, probably an Arcane Trickster taking Artificer Initiate feat or a level of Artificer. Then you take Crossbow Expert so that you can attack in melee with a a bludgeoning weapon or just can attack with Intelligence.

So astral self monk 11 spore Druid 9 (Also works with Mercy & Wildfire) but basically I’d pick a race where I could get tools, take woodcarvers tools and put stones in my Quarter staff. And his stick was within the 1st two rounds bonus action shillelagh, action chill touch 2nd Turn bonus action magical stones, attack action. So that magic stones, necrotic, and shillelagh damage. And the reason I went those two over the other two is the fact that I’m using my wisdom mod for attack rolls. Also one time I was playing a wildfire swarmkeeper and my DM let me make arrows with my smith tools and he let me use magical stones on the tip but they had to do bludgeon damage instead of piercing damage

    • @clintjohnson1045

Also just brought up to me that magic stones have to be thrown another work around could be blacksmith artificer, and either psi warrior or Run knight fighter and put the stones on a spear, and take returning infusion. Plus attack rolls can be made with Intelligence. Also take the fire rune
The first two rounds can go
Action Guidance/Tasha’s caustic brew(Just a tad more expensive)
      Bonus action magic stones
      Turn 2:
Action: attack action and booming blade
So you can throw the spear twice using intelligence, and deal magic stone (if you take psi warrior, psychic damage or rune knight fire damage and do booming blade.) also Rune knight might be better because your fire rune acts like scared flames

Swarmkeeper has been one of my favorite subclasses of all time since it came out just for how flavorful the subclass is (it also being really good is a nice bonus!). I would personally take Shillelagh over Light, but actually for flavor reasons. While yes it would be nice to have a melee option for those situations where you just can't get away from a melee combatant, I also just really love the idea of you carying around this standard quarterstaff, and you whip it out and the stones that rotate around you coalesce around the end of your staff to create a massive hammer. In my head it wouldn't be a solid amalgamation of rock, it would be many shards that kinda float around the end of the staff to make it look large, and when you hit someone and use your swarmkeeper feature/crusher to move them, a portion of the shards that hit them seperate from your staff and carry the enemy away.

Totally different flavor, but I did a very similar build with a Lizardfolk as a Witch Doctor. I took the Druidic Warrior fighting style, and grabbed Magic Stone and Shillelagh. After 5 levels of Ranger, I grabbed 2 levels of Stars Druid, for that Starry Form and a few extra slots. Then back to Ranger, I think ending at character level 10.
In combat, I alternated between Starry Form Archer and Summon Beast for my BA, and usually Magic Stone throws on my action.
Out of combat, I used Wildshape for scouting both shape-shifting myself and summoning a familiar.
Not a super high damage build. But versatile, and with enough damage potential to be reliable.

    My favorite gravity build?
    Daolock 1/Graviturgist 6 w/ Crusher Feat.
Use ray of frost, slow them 10ft, add bludgeoning from Daolock to proc crusher. Send them 5ft into the air. You also proc gravity well, send them another 5ft. They fall 10ft take 1d6, and are prone, with speed at (x-10)/2. But you're concentrating on Summon (Sorrow) Shadowspawn. It reduces their speed by a flat 20, so it's probably zero, so they can't get up. And since they're prone, you're attacking with advantage.

  • @Stolcor
    @Stolcor Год назад

Taking the gunner feat or crossbow expert would allow you to make point blank attacks without disadvantage, thereby removing your biggest weakness. Start with 13 DEX and take gunner for +1. In my opinion, that's much more valuable than the 5 extra feet of Crusher. You can still take Crusher, but I'd put that after gunner.
If you're in a space campaign, you can flavor it as using a meteor pistol.
As for the spell thing people are talking about. By RAW (rules-as-written), it seems to mean you can't do cast Bonus Action Cantrip followed by Action Leveled Spell.
But RAI (rules-as-intended), it's pretty obvious that this rule is aimed primarily at two things:
Casting a *leveled* spell with your Bonus Action followed by another *leveled* spell.
Using Metamagic to quicken a damaging Cantrip on the same turn as casting a leveled spell (even that's not so bad for anyone other than a Warlock/Sorcerer).
But Magic Stone on a Ranger? There's clearly no design reason to forbid someone casting a regular spell as an action on the same turn as casting that.
Jeremy Crawford summarized the rule as "you can cast two spells on one turn, but one of them must be a cantrip." That's probably the best way to apply it.

I love the irony that I find this video the day after I finish putting together a swarmkeeper for a new game. This is funny to be because this will be my first time using a swarmkeeper specifically. I flavored the swarm as little mote looking soul fragments though. I used earth genasi and had the souls actually have brought her to life because she used to be a statue in the forgotten ruins where she was born. Sure I could have used warforged but I wanted her to have a more elemental feel than that so earth genasi. She looks like she is made of white jade too. Since I’m joining a party late, and the party just survived a massive battle that was an invasion and slaughter by the enemies, my character is set up to join them because her swarm, the soul fragments, are urging her to seek the party out and help them. Dm and I discussed it and she is supposed to actually be the gate to the realm of the dead. It may not ever come up in game but that is who she is even though she isn’t aware. She is very dedicated to her responsibility towards her swarm though. I even gave her the magic initiate cleric feat to feed into the esoteric and alien feel she has. She is made to bring calm to this group which is apparently sorely needed as of late. Should be fun.

Reminder the rules for casting spells as a bonus action state that if you cast a spell as a bonus action (regardless of if it’s a cantrip or not), the only other spells you can cast on that turn are cantrips with a casting time of 1 action. So this means you won’t be dropping your “fight-winning spell” and casting Magic Stone on the same turn.
Maybe you could persuade your DM that the stones that float around you are always being re-upped as they feed off of your magical essence, but RAW you can’t cast both on the same turn

I'd love for you to meet R'a'an.
R'a'an is a Hadozee child, set adrift in the astral sea when his parents spelljammer was set upon and destroyed by a Tyrant Ship when he was 4 years old. After several decades adrift, the Silver Void preventing him from aging or dying of hunger/thirst. At some point, he was happened upon by none other than Celestian, god of stars and wanderers. Charmed by the young boy's fearlessness in the face of divinity, it only took a moment to realize how long this deceptively young looking person had been drifting. Concern crossed his divine face for just a moment, before his features relaxed again and he reached out and bestowed this old-young being with a modicum of power over the most common material found in the Sea, Gravity.
What followed next is a sort of montage where we see R'a'an testing out his new power, adding impulse to his drift over time to gain speed, cracking asteroids apart and reforming them at will, crushing a bit of rock into fusion to provide a small amount of light. Since his travelling speed had increased, it became possible to latch onto passing Spelljammers, and thus R'a'an was able to join a crew for a spell every now and then. This gave him the opportunity to learn language, and over time he became proficient in a number of useful skills. Spelljamming is not without its dangers, so R'a'an got experience fighting with weapons, using various armors effectively, although he tired quickly with physical work due to his stunted growth. As time went on, he grew more and more reliant on his gravity to augment his shortcomings. And, as not all spelljammers are crewed by good and honest people, R'a'an learned a lot of hard lessons about deception and how to spot it in people before it became a problem that could threaten his life.
R'a'an is level 9 now, somewhere north of 80 or 90 years of age (although his physical body still appears young, maybe 5 or 6 years old). His aptitude with gravity has reached levels where it starts to become scary with the speed at which he's able to project rocks, rapidly orbiting a rock around his person before shunting it away with a shocking amount of force and accuracy. He's able to expand the gravity well he usually floats on to gain a modicum of flight (although he has to go slow so as not to lose control), which he combines with his natural ability to glide to some degree of efficacy. He can also, with some effort, project gravity fields around others as well, locking all but the strongest of them in place, or even creating miniaturized singularities that rip and tear at those that move between them (willing or not).
I hope you like my adorable little weapon of mass destruction, because he's almost entirely your fault.

I played a Warforged Graviturgy wizard named ST4R once. His backstory was essentially that he is part of this alien/extradimensional race of robotic people called Riftborn (based on Endless Space, for those who know), who are each powered by their own small internal sun/star. He was part of a group doing research on black holes, particularly on how they influence time and space, and during an experiment a mishap happened and he ended up getting sucked inside the hole. As this happened he had a revelation on how gravity and time are connected to eachother, and he used this new found knowledge to escape before he got completely destroyed by the immense gravity of the singularity. He ended up in the Forgotten Realms and since has been looking for a way to return to his people, whilest also slowly learning about this new place he found himself in.
Most of this spells are based around manipulating his internal sun in certain ways to influence the gravity of the world around him, as well as creating what are essentially wormholes through time and space in order to teleport people around. That all in addition to an emotionless machine trying to understand emotions and irrational thought, and it was one of the most fun characters I have ever made/played

This is a very interesting idea and I might try it out, but I would do it a bit differently. I like my archery too much tho, so I would get magic stone thru a background that gives the magic initiate feat picking either druid or warlock... I do love me some prestidigitation too lol. That way, I still have the option of longer distance, and if the DM is nice, they might allow magic stone to benefit from sharpshooter, maybe doubling its range? For a space build tho, I would go astral elf and circle of stars druid, again with a background that gives magic initiate, picking a spell list that gives either magic missile or witch bolt as the 1st level spell and whatever cantrips you want to spice things up. I would also be a wereraven to fly around the battlefield to mess with the enemies more lol.

My kobold in community games is a ranger that uses magic stone. I also dipped into Rogue for expertise and sneak attack. There is an amazing weapon in Dragonlance called the Hoopak. This weapon is a Sling / Staff that utilizes dexterity for both types of attacks.
Magic Stone turns our Sling part of the weapon into a 60ft / 160ft Range Monster and with Sharpshooter we gain long range efficiency.
Shillelagh turns our Staff into a great melee weapon for us allowing us to focus solely on Wisdom for both Melee and Ranged Combat.
The amazing thing about all of this is because the weapon is a Finesse Weapon both our ranged and melee strikes benefit from Sneak Attack and since we are Kobold (either variety) we have either Pact Tactics or Dragon Bark which generates Advantage on attacks against foes so even when our allies aren't around we are set to lay down the sneak attack.
This is how i built my kobold and i love them, and the nice thing is its not subclass dependent at all. Just need Druidic Warrior Fighting Style (Level 2 Ranger) and Sneak Attack (Level 1 Rogue). I also picked up Green Flame Blade as a Kobold so when i smack foes with my stick they take extra fire damage as well since the modifier for it is your choice of mental stats.

Artificer stacking enhanced arcane focus, enhanced weapon and archery fighting style with Sharpshooter for +4-6 bonus to sling attack rolls
Thri-Kreen [extra arms needed to wield sling, load sling and hold an enhanced arcane focus at the same time] + battlesmith artificer (x) [primarily for extra attack and enhanced focus & enhanced weapon infusions] + fighter (1+) [archery fighting style] + sharpshooter [will be wielding magic stone with the enhanced sling for the -5/+10] + spell sniper [magic stone tuns your ranged attacks into spell attacks, so SS's long range and 3/4 cover benefits are not applicable, spell sniper lets you ignore 3/4 cover again and increases magic stone's range to 120, and since it's a spell attack, there is no long range disadvantage.
Your attacks will benefit from archery fighting style, enhanced arcane focus and enhanced weapon at the same time [magic stone attacks are spell attacks, so the focus bonus applies; you're wielding the sling to make the magic stone attacks, so archery and enhanced weapon apply] this gives you +4 to magic stone sling attacks when you first get it and becomes +6 at artificer 10.
You could go to battle master or psionic warrior fighter level 3 or 4 for more dynamic and damaging attacks. Champion's improved crit range is not applicable because because it is only for weapon attacks and after using magic stone you are technically making spell attacks, and RAW arcane archer is for shortbows and longbows only, although with the extra arms you could wield a bow and a sling on the same turn, you would just need to shift the sling to a lesser hand to make the bow attack and the bow wouldn't benefit from the enhanced focus of course.
I would avoid probably avoid taking a bladesinger dip because your dex is not going to be great, so when you can't use bladesong your AC will be lower since medium armor and shields would be off the table. Also activating Bladesong delays benefiting from magic stone synergies a round unless you set up bladesong the second round.
You could optionally take rogue levels to increase your damage with sneak attack since magic stone with a sling qualifies the attack for "The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon", with the steel defender as a pawn for setting up sneak attack conditions [it would need to have been be positioned the previous turn since it's turn is after yours]. Though I would probably just stick with Battlesmith Artificer (17) + _ fighter (3) for casting and infusion/artificer feature progression. Additionally, you start coming up against ASI issuesif you take more than 2 classes.
Battlesmith was taken over Armorer because it allows your weapon attacks to use int instead of dex for the sling regardless if you cast magic stone or not, for more action flexibility and you have 2 arms remaining to wield another [int based] weapon [even a 2 handed, or 1 handed and an (enhanced) shield], and you can weaponize your bonus action with the steel defender when not casting magic stone. Additionally, the battlesmith gets a limited use damage improvement via Arcane Jolt.
Repeating shot was not taken because you have enough hands to reload and it's unique feature would negate magic stone-enhanced focus synergy, since using that feature means you're not using one of the magic stones. Similarly, the Two Bird Sling is an appealing magic item, but since it's magical already you would not be able to infuse with the Enhanced Weapon infusion, and since magic stone fades after a hit, the secondary target attack would not benefit from Enhanced Arcane focus [and possibly not even the archery fighting style since the second attack isn't coming from the weapon?]

*IF* (and this is a big if) I were going to base a build around the Magic Stone cantrip, then this build is okay, but I think it can be improved upon. For instance, I might go ranger 4 or 5, then switch to Psi Warrior fighter (which has its own gravity manipulation abilities) until fighter 11 to maximize Magic Stone damage with three attacks before going back to ranger for the rest of my career.
But if I really wanted to base a build around gravity manipulation and stellar bodies, I wouldn't touch this build with a standard ten-foot pole. Even if I couldn't or didn't want to play a Graviturgy wizard, the Arcane spell list has far too many good gravity manipulation and and "stellar" or "meteor" spells to be ignored ... everything from Mage Hand, Catapult and Levitate to Fireball to Telekinesis, Animate Objects, Crown of Stars, Reverse Gravity and Meteor Swarm. Just about any kind of wizard could pull this off, as could the Lunar sorcerer.
This is, of course, just my two cents, but I do find it rather silly to call a build a "Meteor Master" when it's based on one of the weakest cantrips in the game, one that doesn't *EVER* upgrade with level advancement, and then it isn't even used to its fullest potential. 😡

Quick correction: The first turn you describe is not legal RAW. Since you are casting a spell (Magic Stone) as a Bonus Action, the only other spell you can cast that turn is a cantrip with a casting time of 1 Action.
That said, if I were playing this build I'd go with Earth Genasi, with the flavor being that the rock swarm is actually a result of the character's stronger than normal connection to the Elemental Plane of Earth. MOTM gives the Earth Genasi Blade Ward, and the ability to cast it a few times as a Bonus Action, which would be represented by the rock swarm spinning around the Genasi to deflect incoming attacks, along with Pass without Trace, which would be the rocks following behind to erase the Genasi's footprints and signs of their movement, and the ability to pass through difficult terrain without expending extra movement, which would be the rocks swarming ahead to push obstacles out of the way. For the second cantrip, I'd go with either Shillelagh, flavored as the rocks turning the club or staff into a kind of smart stone hammer, or Thorn Whip for extra forced movement and another cantrip to use when I need to refresh the Magic Stones.

Moving an enemy 15-20ft means absolutely NOTHING, when the most basic enemy can easily move 30+ feet each round. And the swarm keeper ability can only be performed a few times per day, which makes this build extremely weak.
Only builds worth making, are ones that completely break the game. Which are :
●Bear totem barbarian + Circle of the moon Druid
This build uses wild shape and Polymorph to turn into large or larger beasts, and then making use of gravity (the improvised damage table for falling objects onto living beings) land on enemies by jumping or shaping into a flying dinosaur and then just drop on target. Don't even need an attack roll, because you are just using movement and physics. This can also be accomplished through the use of Conjure Animals, which you can have 16 large animals fall on top of an enemy, dealing massive crushing damage due to them being used as falling debris. And if there isn't enough room to drop them in unoccupied spaces in mid air, you can always tell them all make skill checks to "jump" onto the enemy. If it's a medium size target, the DC should be pretty low (5-10) and easily accomplished by say the 16 Axe Beak you summoned (which are large size creatures). The bigger you are, or creatures summoned are, the more damage you will deal. (Refer to falling fortress damage in the Improvised Damage table of 5E)
    ●The Sorlock:
3 levels of Hexblade warlock to augment our Eldritch blast. The rest in any Sorcerer bloodline you wish(my personal favorites being Divine Soul and Shadow). Making this build the most broken of all. Due to being able to stack max-rank spell slots infinitely at each short or long rest (you don't sleep due to having the Eldritch Invocation from warlock that allows this).
With the sorlock build as Divine Soul, you can inscribe damaging spells like Fireball into objects, through the use of the glyph spell. Turning something like a 108 monk bead necklace, into a doomsday device. Being able to throw the necklace at the feet of a boss, and speaking the trigger word to ignite the glyphs. Simultaneously casting 108 Fireballs or what ever else.
This build can be made far less costly (the glyph spell costs gold) by adding 3 levels of paladin, and using smite skill to eat the infinite spell slots you posses, or however many you want to use, and smite your enemies for an nearly incalculable amount of damage.
