The border between the Elemental Plane of Fire and Air is called the Great Conflagration or the Plane of Ash. Might be a story hook there.

Genie Warlock truly is the Warlock subclass that feels most "at home" without multiclassing. I also think it is one of the better designed subclasses period. All of the other subclasses feel like they get their "good stuff" early on, and the higher level abilities are just kind of bland improvements to whatever you are already doing. Hexblade in particular feels guilt of this, which is why so many people multiclass into it for just a couple levels. High level Hexblade is just "Hexblade Harder". Genie Warlock adds new tools that completely change the sorts of options you have available to you.
Bottled Respite is neat flavor and can be used creatively. Genie's Wrath is just a straight damage buff, even if only a minor one. Elemental Gift is a defense buff and an on-demand flight ability, which is always good. Sanctuary Vessel is an expansion of the Bottled Respite flavor, but is also a very good party support tool and can be used creatively. Limited Wish is just fun, no explanation needed. And then to top it all off, you can get Wish with your Mystic Arcanum at 17th level which is something no other Warlock can do. You never feel tempted to dip into a multiclass because Genie Warlock always has something sweet just a couple of levels down the line.

Your just a young genasi but people treat you a bit different, do them thinking your strange. You find a small but growing community run by some costal wizards. The community expands with the help of a lot of people who interested in the ideas the wizards had. On day the coastal wizards take on some investors to expand the communities reach even further, unfortunately the coastal wizards were betrayed by the money hungry investors who had no interest in the community. You hear a voice reaching out from the void telling you he will give you power to fight back and plant a black flag to show the coastal wizards that a community can thrive even without them. Just one idea for a new backstory that has absolutely nothing to do with any current situation between a company waging war on it's fan base. This is just a draft for my comment, maybe I do a poll later to ask for feedback

The scorching sun is harsh on those who dares cross the dunes, the sand is rough on the skin, and for those unfortunate, lungs.
Like a fish out of water Avriel never dared to go out under the blazing sun as his pale skin was quick to burn under its rays, luckily he rarely had to as a son of a glassblower his mother's teachings took much of his time, "keep a steady blow" was a popular line of hers and one Avriel remember fondly. One day when the fire was out and the young air genasi tugged in the sound of screaming horses could be heard approaching, Avriel's mother grabbed him out of his bed cover still consuming him and ran to the outskirt of the small desert settlement. A scream left his mother's mouth as she plumbed to the ground holding Avriel close to her, a bandit now stood over them and laughed as he pointed his sword at the mother and child and that was when Avriel heard it, "long have you feared the heat of the sun, the same heat that fuels a fire, you want to save those dear to you, blow glassblower blow, feel the heat and air leave your lungs and scorch your foe, leave a lasting warning to those who dare threaten your loved ones. Arise my warlock!"
Avriel took a deep breath and exhaled like he's never done before creating a small sandstorm around the bandit's torso, followed was a powerful flame causing the wretched foe to scream in pain, Avriel didn't dare to look under the whole process but when he opened his eyes all he saw was a still red hot glowing spiral of glass with a hunched over bandit, dead.
It has been years since that dreadful day and Avriel still remember every second of it, and what followed. The community's distrust for the young genasi enough to force Avriel to leave and search out his relatives, as a parting gift his mother gave him a beautifully crafted pendant, sturdy despite it being made if glass and a promise that one day soon he'd be able to return in her warm embrace.
That's a story on top of my head, i don't know if it's any good but it certainly is a story.

I like the Dao Genie Warlock. Combo the Repelling Blast and Grasp of Hadar to push/pull enemies into battlefield hazards like Spike Growth (a Dao spell that does damage to enemies who move through the area, even with forced movement, and creates difficult terrain) or Sickening Radiance (a spell that has an effect on enter and start of turn, and also works on forced movement into the area).
If you're interested in multiclassing, Dao Genie Warlock 3 / Aberrant Mind Sorcerer 17 is great. Aberrant mind has a lot of great spells for control like Tasha's Mind Whip. You also get other good area hazards like Wall of Fire. And most importantly you get 9th level spells like Wish. You can Wish for a simulacrum and double the push/pull of Eldritch Blasts with your area hazards. Or just blow things up with Meteor Swarm.

Genie has become one of my favorite subclasses.
I have used it twice now in Eldritch Blast builds.
Build 1: a Goblin Fire Genie Warlock 17 / Celestial Sorcerer 3. The character was fun, fire and wood themed. He was a Fantasy Fighter Jet with 1200ft range Eldritch blasts.
Build 2: a Thri-Kreen Swarm Keeper Ranger 15 / Fire Genie Warlock 5. She was a walking hive, and used features to make an Eldritch Shotgun effect.
Both spells used the fire reaction spell as their main spell slot spell for a while.

The birth of a smoke genasi is not a common occurrence, but those rare few often seek answers from extraplaner beings… fewer still manage to find themselves the beloved champion of the very being who influenced their birth. To date, there are only a handful of smoke genasi who have unlocked there true potential within the burning winds…

Three 5th-level spell slots that renew after every short rest, coupled with at-will spell abilities, make the warlock one of the most underrated classes in the game. Fireball, in particular, scales well with upcasting, too.

    • @collinw9792
      @collinw9792 Год назад +2

@@glitchking666 it being able to scale does not necessarily mean it scales well. Command is an example of a spell that scales well, as it includes an extra creature with each level. Fireball in comparison does an extra d6 of damage per level. That is not good scaling. It is scaling, but not all scaling is good. Yes, some spells don't scale at all, but that doesn't mean that any spell that scales scales well, does that make sense? A warlock has access to synaptic static at 5th level slots. That does 2d6 less damage than fireball, but also targets intelligence instead of Dex which is a much better target and also removes a d6 on attack rolls and ability checks to a failed creature. That is a lot better than an extra 2d6, fireball doesn't scale very well

I would take a gensai for sure but i would take a Dao because the free repel on attacking the target and putting yourself or the talisman wearer at the edge of spike growth is first off.
Free damage and you repel the target into the spike growth.
It potentially breaks multiattack unless it's willing to take more damage.
And their movement to continue attacking is difficult terrain as well as riddled with damage.
And if the target moved partially this turn and you repel them into the spikes chances are they might just not have the movement to make it to a target regardless if it would take the damage [aka a troll, hydra, or something with regeneration]

"Stories abound of nymphs seducing humans on Theros, and most end in disaster for the mortal, but few speak of the results that may be produced from a more benign union. You know not whence your parents came or why they abandoned you, but you know this: you serve Keranos, the god of thunder, and while you are looked upon with similar distrust as the Nyxborn, you do not share their abilities nor their star-riddled appearance.
From a young age, you have known the sky well, for it is where the stars and the gods rest, and you've become familiar with life in the more monastically inclined observatories. This served you well, as when you came of age you were considered a well-educated, competent, and perhaps even blessed navigator. Your strange appearance and affinity for wind became a boon on the open seas, and you had the pick of the litter for oceanic expeditions, for a time, at least.
Unfortunately, as much as you coped with your strange past and enjoyed your station, you grew restless. You yearned for something else, but dared not ask Keranos for a sign, as the god is known to give his boons with a completary bang and scorched feet. But one day, a fight broke out in the harbour, and you caught a bandit who'd robbed a priest of Purphoros. Whether by divine right or dumb luck, you managed to wrest a trinket from the bandit's pockets, and then you heard the voice.
"Brother? Do not deceive me, do I sense the touch of a halfblood? Oh, thank the forges, there is another!"
Power surged through you, and the bandit was soon felled by new yet familiar magic.
The oracles would later tell you the amulet contains the remnants of an unusually powerful oread, a fire nymph, but one who was... tainted in its creation. Like you, he was the product of a strange union, and like you, he'd finished his apprenticeship and set out into the world. Unlike you, he was more nymph than human, and got himself into some trouble, as is often the case in Theran legends. Purphoros himself cursed him to imprisonment into this amulet.
But now you have kindred spirit, and a source of newfound power. There is a bargain to be struck here. You have the opportunity to redeem this spirit, and possibly free him from his chains. And in return? You will have what you craved and never realised. Your childhood was spent looking to the sky. Your adult life started on the sea. But now? You are on land, and you crave to make your mark on it... in flame."
Not a player, never got around to it, but a big fan of the Theros setting and its mechanics, so figured I'd try re-skinning air genasi without breaking the lore too much. Demi-gods exist in the setting, and nymphs kind of have some leeway to create something like genasi, so I went with that. It'd be interesting in a different way, too, if the 'patron' and the warlock were similar in creation but on opposite ends. The fire got more of the spirit/divine power, and needs the air to free him. The air has all the freedom, but realises he needs fire for real power. Both struggle to come to terms with their ancestry, both are easily defined by the gods they serve, Keranos and Purphoros both fit the bill as quest-givers for this pair.
Only thing to leave open is what the half-oread did to get banished, whether and how he'd be redeemed, and how much of a firebug the re-skinned genasi would become. Technically you could be Nyxborn, too, but story-wise that'd change a few things. Might want Unscarred instead, lean into the wispiness making you harder to hurt. Keranos makes a good contrast to the rashness that might develop from these powers, too, given his character.

Wow, what a coincidence. A couple hours ago I started building an Eldritch Blast-based Efreeti Genie Talisman Warlock, and I now see this uploaded today on my RUclips feed.
I kind of worked backwards to arrive at the same point as you, I wanted to make a blaster and chose Genie because it's one of the newest patrons (my current character is a Fathomless Blade Warlock). I decided to make a hobbit/halfling who has a Ring of Power (dwarven, not the One Ring). Through the ring my patron is Sauron, who I know as Annatar, Lord of Gifts. I chose fire since Sauron is described as giving off an immense heat. So my genie vessel is my Ring of Power, and my talisman will be a second ring because why not? My subrace is the Eberron Mark of Hospitality halfling, which will be extra flavorful once I get the feature to invite my party members into my 20x20 living space to rest.

Elements are in constant conflict and in the war your air parent found a way to steal a powerful artifact from the plane of fire, an artifact that infused nearby elementals with extra strength, your vessel. You being only half elemental you were tasked with keeping it away from the efreet on the material plane, as you could survive and even hide there. But as half elemental being near it, it started infusing you with some fire power. Your vessel design and interior all would reflect the firey origins. And boons would be something you discover inside your vessel ( like a blade or talisman or book or a familiar imp that serves the vessel possessor) Your patron is actually not someone you ever want to meet. Maybe DM throws up some conjured fire elementals at you now and again (both a challenge because your fire spells would be less or not effective, and narratively makes since that they are coming to clam back the vessel. (Think recovery team or hit squads)
