Right on!
@@Wordsmyth8 👍👍👍👍
Some will cover this song, but the original is pure gold. She owns it.
Bruce Hornsby is playing piano on this song. He had a few hits in the 80's.
Bruce's piano skills are amazing....
He is an incredible pianist, even Elton John is an admirer
He's a legend
His piano has such a unique sound.
Bruce “had a few hits in the 80’s”
Has collaborated/toured with Bob Dylan, Elton, Don Henley, Huey Lewis, Michael McDonald, The Doobie Brothers, Sting, Clapton, Steve Winwood, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie, Mavis Staples, Jerry Garcia/The Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Branford Marsalis, nominated for 12 Grammy’s, put out 20 albums over 35 years and his prowess with both the keyboards and voice are better now than when he started, but yeah, he had a few hits in the 80’s…
Bonnie Raitt(Rate) is a great blues singer and guitar player.Still going strong at 72.I just love her soul.Check out Nick Of Time ,or Have A Heart by her.
Her ENTIRE "Luck of the Draw" (1991) album is fantastic
Unrequited love 💘 Whoever wrote this song must have been in a lot of pain because the lyrics are so profound!
There’s a video on the guy who wrote it. He was an NFL first round pick and he saw a title in a newspaper article and wrote the song around it.
Was written by Mike Reid - who played for the Cincinnatti Bengals when he was younger. This was co-written - and started out as an up-tempo Country song. But Reid changed it to this jazzy feel. He also wrote Grammy award winning songs for Ronnie Milsap ("Stranger In My House") - and had his own huge recording career in the 1980s and '90s. He was a huge (6'5") man - and gorgeous as hell. Made a piano look like a toy. See his video "I'll Stop Loving You" - and compare him to the upright piano he's playing. He's a big guy. Also see "Walk On Fairth" that he did with Mark Knopfler - and "Keep On Walkin'" . . . He's continued to write - mostly for stage musicals - since his own performance heyday - and is still a brilliant writer and musician.
"give up this fight" is the most heart wrenching part. ik, going through it right now.... grief, sorrow, pain. then to still see that person a and try to be friends when they were clueless about everything
You'll love her "Something To Talk About", "Angel From Montgomery", "Thing Called Love" and many more!!! She is known for her voice and slide guitar. Saw her in concert July 1990, and she was awesome!!
I have heard this song 100 times and every time I hear it. It brings tears to my eyes.
She is the BEST on this song ❤️❤️❤️
This song came out my Senior yr..1992. BONNIE IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER!!! Her father was amazing as well.
Had a friend in the 90s who listened to this song over and over after a lost love. She did find love with another, the right one.
I think anyone who has gone through heartache and heartbreak of unrequited love knows this songs soul and feel.
Love Bonnie!!! Hell of a blues woman too!!!
Yeah, this is a great bluesy song from a fabulous singer about realizing it’s time you gotta let go.
People who've been around a bit know how good Bonnie Raitt is. Great singer, great guitarist, great performer
Bonnie is my age, we’re past 70. BUT she just won another Grammy (2023 song of the year) for Just Like That. She’s one of my favorite singer/musicians, any decade, any genre. Thanks so much for reacting to her.
I was introduced to her music by my best friend in the late 70s. She is amazing. RIP James.
Thank You for reacting to the original. Bonnie is a force! You’ll have to do a beep dive! You’ll dig her blues and slide guitar playing.
Nick of Time - Love Letter - Thing Called Love - Something to Talk About
❤️
Longing and resignation fighting it out.
I love Bonnie Raitt.
Love'd this, thank you! Oh, and the Piano player is Bruce Hornsby - His massive hit was "That's Just the Way it Is".
Another great hit was "Mandolin rain"
All these years later, I’m finally realizing he’s playing in this song. He’s so talented.
2 legends!
the second pronunciation is correct (Ray-t)
The song is about being in a relationship where only one side is in love, and she is trying to find the courage to say goodbye because it's the smart thing to do despite the pain. ❤
by the way, the genius that is Bruce Hornsby on the piano (That's Just the Way It Is)
got to the end, and you got the full meaning. Sorry for jumping the gun 😜
Thanks for mentioning the great Bruce Hornsby.
My girl Bonnie..I followed her around in the 70's when she was doing college's until she did this song that got a crap ton of Grammys. She can rock it on the slide guitar! Her older songs I love..Angel from Montgomery..Give it up or let me go was my favorite! Also A thing called love and anything off her album Nick Of Time album..keep going you won't be disappointed ..Thanks ✌️
Saw Bonnie in concert in 1988. She's awesome 🤗
Lots of covers, but this will always be Bonnie's song. Bruce Hornsby on piano, brilliant. Her father, John Raitt, was a Broadway performer.
You've got to hear her rock out on pedal steel guitar. The purity of her vocals is amazing.
Thanks for the info!
@@KINGDOMREACTS Anytime, King! From one of your more knowledgeable Queens. R
Slide electric, not pedal steel.
She’s really a rocker! Check her rock playing the guitar.
Bonnie said when she was doing a few takes on this tune, she couldn't finish, because she'd start crying. One of the writers of this song was a former Defensive Linemen for the Cincinnati Bengals, MIKE REID!
She’s really a bluesy artist. She also plays a mean slide guitar.
Bonnie ( sounds like raite). She is awesome, deep soulful. Her father was a famous actor in 1950s -movies, Broadway.
Bruce Hornsby on the piano. Classic.
The other version with her playing with Bruce Hornsby is exceptional the maturity of time, loves found, and loves lost, and her voice is beyond compare...
Beautiful song. Thanks for reacting.
Her studio recording was one take. She couldn't handle a second.
Bonnie Raitt is one of the best! You can't choose a bad song, she doesn't have any LOL. IMO...
Awesome bud! There are a lot of great covers of this song, Teddy's version is awesome, Adele and even Boyz II Men covered it, but Bonnie - man, she puts something into the song that just is unlike anything else. In an interview she said that for the studio recording they did just one take because it was too sad and she couldn't get through a second take. It definitely hits deep - glad you liked it. Cheers.
Bonnie does it Best!
George Michael also covered this song beautifully.
@@jenright no, he is the best.
I agree 100 percent - Bonnie does it best.
Likee others I've heard the others. But Bonnie is deep inside it.
Bonnie is a slide blues guitarist and rock singer BUT this is her other side....put on the headphones and enjoy everyone. :) Peace and love
How Wonderful A Man Can Feel Her Pain 😢
Her fathe4 John Raitt was a big actor and singer on Broadway in the 50s and 60s
What a beautiful performance and the most sultry voice in music
Bruce Hornsby on the piano. Such a beautiful song.
Bruce Hornsby is on the piano. Love the passion in his playing
She is one helluva guitar player also! Bonnie is great beyond words. Bruce Hornsby on piano.
Wow, just saw her perform this live 3 days ago. She sat on the stage and as she said, "dug deep" to perform it. Many tears in the audience.
This was really beautiful thanku so much have a great day much love and God bless always x
Bonnie makes me cry...
Loved your reaction. This is an incredibly moving, gorgeous song. Bonnie is an amazing singer and that’s Bruce Hornsby on the piano. Haunting.
My father loved this song and I do too. You definitely feel the pain in her voice.❤
The song was inspired from an interview that a reporter did on a man who was living under a bridge in Nashville. His wife divorced him. He said to the reporter “I can’t make her love me.” Bruce Hornsby didn’t want to play it like Mike did on his demo of the song with him just singing and playing the piano. They kept asking Bruce to listen again to the demo. Hornsby said why don’t you just have him play it and walked out the door. Once he cooled down he came back in and got his part right.
With the awesome Bruce Hornsby playing back-up piano in this video. He has had his hits in his own right. Check out Bruce performing: "That's Just the Way it Is" and "Mandolin Rain".
Bruce Hornsby played piano on this. He was Bruce Hornsby & The Range.
That’s Bruce Hornsby on piano
Hi Blitz~! Nothing for me to add, it's all been well said ~! Except to say Bonnie is ONE of The Greats~! Very Special, Very Talented~! And I'm Glad You Got To Enjoy & Experience Her Unique Talent~! Love, Good Thoughts, Blessings~! Ciao~! Itia ~:-)
Mr. Bruce Hornsby on piano he actually wrote it with her.
Nick Of Time is another one of Bonnie''s greats.
And that's brother Bruce Hornsby on the piano! You can spot his style cuz it's like no other! Their live performance is also incredible! #kingdomreacts
She is absolutely my favorite female musician, first Raitt
The live version with Bruce Hornsby on the piano is superb.
I hear this for the first time through you reacting..., I never realized the lyrics were so powerful. "But you won't..." wow
She sings it like it's happening to her.
Awesome reaction!!
This song is so soulful. Absolutely beautiful song. Still love this song
There is Bonnie Raitt's version and then there is everyone else. Swim's version is about vocalese. This is about a mature adult who has clearly been through something, while facing the truth in a failed relationship.
This song will always haunt me. I’m 48 now and happily married with four children. Life is good. But it’s part of the human experience to be able to hear a song that immediately takes you back to another time, good or bad. For me, I was 17 years old and had fallen in love for the first time in my life. I bare no ill will towards her anymore whatsoever, but at that stage in our lives she always gave me just enough rope to hang myself as it were. I remember laying in my room in complete darkness listening to this song and being so numb from the heartache…yet something about the sadness in this song somehow comforted me in a way. You can absolutely feel it through her voice that she went through that same numbing heartache. Music can be so therapeutic and no matter how many years go by where we haven’t heard a particular song, it can always take us right back. It’s almost like time travel. Love this song. Love that this man was moved by it as well, I’ll be checking in again! Take care everyone and God bless.
I've loved Bonnie Raitt since the 70s. She's so awesome. Incredibly talented guitarist who doesn't get the recognition she rightly deserves. When she finally won a Grammy for "Nick Of Time", I was thrilled!! I've seen her live 5 times, once with Bruce Hornsby, Jackson Browne and Shawn Colvin. Great concert!!!
One of the best to ever do it. Listen to "Angel from Montgomery" to be transported to an almost mystical place.
Then check out "Love Letter" to hear sassy Bonnie.💙☮
If we cannot be with the one we love, love the one you with!!!. I did, many years ago and it was unconventional but he loved me enough to surrender to what I could give, We were kids, but it still hits me in my adult hood.
I'm a newbie here but would like to see your reaction to "Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Enjoyed this ! Bonnie Raitt has been at it for a good long while. The first time I saw her was on "The Midnight Special" and she did an old tune named "Runaway". Sadly, Eva passed away from cancer a number of years ago. I think she was about 35 or 36.
0:14 It's Bonnie Raitt ("rate"), rhymes with "great", which she is LOL
Written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, Bonnie recorded it for her 1991 album _Luck of the Draw,_ and it was the album's second single. She went on to win three Grammy Awards the next year: Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, for _Luck of the Draw;_ Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, for "Good Man, Good Woman"; and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, for "Something to Talk About".
When she performed it live at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards (1992) with Bruce Hornsby on piano, you could hear a pin drop. At the end, she heaved a visible and audible sigh of relief for being able to get through it.
Here is the Grammy performance, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016: ruclips.net/video/MEDyODPnbE8/видео.html
Here is the album version, which she recorded in one take, with Bruce's fantastic piano solo at the end: ruclips.net/video/_z2PAkOSJT0/видео.html
Many people have covered it, like Boyz II Men, the late George Michael, Adele, and even Priyanka Chopra of all people), but nothing can top the original and the best version by Bonnie Raitt!
Best version by far.
Raitt rhymes with "RAIN" but with a "T". Her father was Broadway star John Raitt. She quit Wellesley College to follow the blues. One of her mentors was Mississippi Fred McDowell. And she plays a fantastic electric slide guitar.
Do a youtube search for more by her.
That's the legendary Mr Bruce Hornsby on the piano.
She's wonderful......
The lyrics sound like a couple in a relationship where she loves him more than he loves her, but they have that one last night together, because she needs that before she "gives up the fight" as she realizes she can't make him love her . . . DEEP!
She wrote it and in my opinion her version is the best. She make you really feel compassion for the unloved.
"I Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album, Luck of the Draw (1991).
Bruce Hornsby on the 88's.
Actually this was written by a man who was a professional NFL player whose name escapes me. So it was a man who was losing his gal. Bonnie does it head and shoulders above the others IMO.
The NFL player/ songwriter is Mike Reid - he played for the Cincinnati Bengals 1970-1974.
Alan Shamblin co-wrote this with Mike Reid..
I think you are playing the original video so that's the legendary pianist Bruce Hornsby accompanying the musical arrangement with Bonnie Raitt on guitar.
Always brings a tear, everytime. Bonnie is amazing continue your journey with Bonnie you will love it
Many have done fine covers of this song, but nobody has the emotional depth of despair, and pain Bonnie has.
I believe it's John Hiatt on keys - she did a 'live' version with him - and I think he may be playing on this recording, too. In both instances - the arrangement was taken from the original arrangement by the writer - Mike Reid.
told ya she had soul! Ray-et
Yes indeed, sir. You get it.
Yes it's pronounced "rate"... She is phenomenal!!!
She recorded this one and done, first take.
Blues legend.
"Angel from Montgomery" ... "love Letters" .... On n on n on
You should check out a duet Bonnie Raitt and John Prine Angel from Montgomery.
Bruce Hornsby on piano
Music unites us all.
The lyrics hit all different emotions
This song made me strong....i once felt that pain and i was completely broken...brings back memories...but its okay
The song was written from a newspaper article quote. The cops arrested a man for holding a gun to his girlfriend. He said "you could hold a gun to a woman but you can't make them love you" .. something like that.
When you love him and he says he loves you but his actions don’t convey love should never feel like a prison because of fear I’m so in my feels rn
This song hit me like a freight train when I was 22. It marks a change in my life. I’m 52 now and this song still hits me just as hard. Now I’ve experienced more yet wishing I could be back there and make different choices.
Bonnie sings it like it's her own story...Incredible......Also give a listen to her 2023 Grammy "Best song" winner...."Just like that"....Bring tissues.
She's good
Hard to believe that song was written by an NFL Linebacker
This the original and the best. I think Adele did this really good
If you want to hear some great blues guitar and singing, check out her "Love Me Like A Man."
I've heard good covers of this song, but only Bonnie's version makes me cry. She wrote the song so maybe it's something more you can feel from her. 😢
Teddy Swims does a great soulful version. In Bonnie's version with Bruce Hornsby's piano, you feel every heartbreaking word. It's deep.
Tear your fckng heart apart. 🖤
One of the best songs I have heard. Bonnie and Bruce...
