Hey man, great video as always! I was really hoping you do more eminem reactions after the slim shady Lp and here it is! But I just wanted to point out that though this music is a masterpiece and a lot more higher of a standard than his current music which he should be criticised, that makes a lot of sense, but like why? Isn’t this enough though, the man’s 50 years old and the only person to still be making better rap music than most modern day rappers. Let him enjoy life because at this point he’s already rich and just doing this for fun lol
I loled A LOT with the fact that people were sooo shocked with "we cry together" and I was like... havent you heard "kim" before?, bothe incrediiible pieces of writting, performance and real rage.
I literally thought the same thing as soon as I heard it too!! It reminded me immediately of Kim I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed this lol
If people haven't peaked into horror core they don't know whats out in the rap world thats "shocking"
we cry together is still a shocking kenny joint
We cry together really is just a rip off of Rza’s domestic violence.
If not a rip off then it’s heavily inspired / homage too
We cry together did remind me a lot of Kim with how real and uncomfortable it felt
“Who knew” beat is absolute perfection
His rhyme scheme was crazy as well
Who Knew is a banger for sure!
Who knew is the sleeper on the album for me. My favorite ones are the ones without the stars on Apple Music. Love drug ballad

How he carries stories on from other songs and relates back to them is amazing. For example Kim is the prequel to 97 Bonnie and Clyde
Yes! And like bad guy which is a sequel to Stan where his brother goes to kill em for his brothers death…
No matter how great this album is, my all time favorite Em album is The Eminem Show, it’s a damn near perfect album.
Although I disagree it’s definitely a respectable take. MMLP is more consistent and to me is a more well made album
@@coastercraziness I respect it, MMLP is my second favorite Eminem album
@@michaelpalma6346 understandable, I think MMLP is much more consistent and has better production but both are fantastic
@@DjDeficient interesting, I don’t like Recovery at all and I didn’t really like Kamikaze either, but I’m also not a fan of any Eminem album after Relapse
@@coastercraziness I actually am of the belief that Music To Be Murdered By is the closest album we’ve got to The Marshall Mathers LP; the modern / 2020s version of it. The only Em albums I’m not a fan of is Encore and Revival.
90's to around 03 Em was untouchable. His storytelling and lyrics was next level, give me the likes of Kill you, Way i am, and Stan over any of his newer double rapping nonsense.
Ueah but fwiwvim glad hes in better health or life habits now ngl
he never stopped being untouchable tho. Benzino crying recently is a good example of it lmao
@@JethroParisbut thats only benzino?? dont be unserious

@@JethroParis unfortunately he is not an example of anything 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
One of my favorite albums I've ever heard!
Reaction to Kim is spot on, really puts you in a weird position listening to something like that
Criminal was always one of my favorites. Never noticed that it most definitely loses impact after Kim, but as a stand alone song it's one of the Em songs I always come back to
man ig I hsould check the song kim then no joke man like ykwis?
Actually disagree
JD: really listen to the bars
Em: skiddy beebop a Christopher reeves
😂😂 solid timing
I was thinking the same thing hahahah
I'll often go, like, a whole year without hearing Stan. And then I hear it again, and I'm like, "Yeah. That might be the best rap song ever written."
I’m so glad you didn’t even get to the end of the first track before you mentioned how incredible the rhyme schemes/structures are. That for me is what makes this album. It’s incredible for a number of reasons. But the rhyme schemes are on a whole other level all the way through the album
First time hearing? You lucky bastard.. I'd give anything to be able to hear it for the first time again
@Matt Jesus Christ man are you a professional Eminem hater or something? Let people enjoy what they enjoy
@Matt you're doing the opposite of that. He said his opinion and you said "not in 2022" like wtf
@Matt lol i just saw you commenting on another comment that showed appreciation of Eminem and his music lmao are you just a hater? Like fr why are you watching this video?😂
Ems flow is genuinely insane he can switch up so effortlessly from track to track or verse to verse and it always sounds incredible even his new tracks I love his new tracks I think he has some insane verses but I can see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I love just pure bars
Loved your rereaction to Kim. Loved to see kendrick draw inspiration from it to write we cry together. so fun to see the viceral reaction from those hearing it!
I liked the editing you did with the Stan intro, beat switch was smooooth. 24:07 great timing on the 'mmmm'
The album of my late teens and early 20s WHILE I was training as a professional opera singer. My personal dichotomy. It remains everything. So wonderful to see someone else experience it for the first time.
Great reaction. your channel just popped up on my RUclips feed. look forward to checking out your content. I think your gonna enjoy em's newer stuff more than you think. I'm here for it.
That Ken Kaniff skit reaction had me dying
Bro your SO spot on. His old stuff is so wildly genius and almost perfect. His new stuff is good to great, but it's not the same level as before. He did more with less when younger. But part of that was fueled by his emotional life which I think he's overcome. Without that same exact drive and also becoming so drugged amd needing rehab that he literally had to relearn how to rap.
Finallyyyyy :) Been waiting for so long lets go!!
Look forward to watching this series seen your sslp reaction a couple years ago
Jon Denton, you've done it again! Great video
I could listen to ‘Stan’ every single day for the rest of my life and I’d still get chills each time. One of the greatest songs ever made.
Have you ever heard of Immortal Technique - Dance with the Devil?
Great vid, as always!
Love this album, I still need to find it on vinyl.
You definitely have to do other old albums like you mentioned at the end though.
Eminem's production is so distinctive, even though he got a lot of flak for it you can't deny he produced all these classics too.
I don't think he produced a single track here.
@@robertcharrasse4002 He produced The Real Slim Shady, The Way I Am, and Stan on this album. He produced a couple on his first album, six tracks on the Eminem show, a ton of tracks off of 2pac: Resurrection most of his hits post Eminem Show, and a ton for lots of other artists. His production is actually really slept on.
@@zacakafroztee I know he can produce tracks. I was tripping, I thought he started later. You are right Sir.
@@robertcharrasse4002 Don't need to get into too much detail but yeah, the primary producers were Em, Dre, and the Bass Brothers. There are tracks with other producers but just a couple.
@@zacakafroztee that really disproves one of his most common critiques of people saying Dr Dre made him a great rapper. No doubt Dr Dre helped him a lot with his credibility when he first blew up in 1999 but Eminem is the whole package. Production, bars, being able to switch up his flow so effortlessly, punchlines, and double/triple entendres
I’ve waited my whole life for this.
I got my hands on this album the year it came out, aged 10. To say it blew my mind is an understatement, it was just so dirty and badass, granted a lot of it went over my little head.
Kim scared the living shit out of me, took me a long time before I could listen to it for the second time
I was 10 years old when it came out too and my experience was the same - especially the part about hearing Kim for the first time 😂
@@doomtho42 I remember brining my Walkman to school and showing my friends tracks like Under the Influence. It felt ILLEGAL
I remember listening to this album everyday, riding around my bike. My discman tucked into this little EastPak bag. Cant believe this was 22 years ago.
Time flies. Me as an innocent 11 year old thinking wtf is this 😂
@@Trudon its crazy how fast it went by. First time listening to Kim was pretty intense 😅
I get shit talked for saying this, but man I wish Eminem would go back to this style of rapping. He brings it out every now and then, like Killshot, but man... I miss this style of production, too. That unmistakable Eminem/Dre sound with more of a boom bap feel to it.
I get what you are saying but i like how eminem tries new shit constantly. Hes done that stuff and is playing with various styles and sounds. I think its one of the reasons hes lasted this long. If he had stuck in the past people would have dropped him a long time ago as it would be the same sound every time.
that joint that he did with kid cudi during the pandemic was pretty fire though. He can flow just as well as anyone but he kinda needs to be directed better.
relapse also good
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 For real. I don't ever hear anyone saying they want the old 50 Cent, Ice Cube or Snoop Dogg back but it's constant with Eminem. Yeah he doesn't have the same passion in his voice and doesn't say the highly controversial shit as much but he's 50 now and still rapping better than most rappers out. He's evolved with his ability to switch up flows in his songs and his references that go over so many peoples heads. I want to listen to rappers who switch up their flows versus someone who uses the same flow the whole song
@@bend4852 I say how much I want the old 50 constantly, he's only had a small handful of hits after grodt. Which is really sad because I like every single song off of that album. I like maybe two songs off of the massacre, his g unit stuff slapped though. I think he sidelined his solo career after he put on g unit.
went to his concert when I was a kid, forever grateful goat.
@Matt hahahahahaha wow
@Matt who is your top 10? Just to see what kinda hip hop you like (not tryna beef anyone) 😂
@Matt see that list makes sense why Em isn’t in your top 10/15 etc maybe lacking some depth for you. Im kinda similar in my taste.
@@nicjfrancis you can’t lack depth and be considered the best of all time
I agree nothing will ever be the same as early Em but the more I’ve listened to the new albums, i definitely appreciate and respect the level of lyricism and intricacies. Lucky you, Best Friend, Bad Guy, so many others, are crazy but yes…this shit here is classic.
To this day Stan can bring tears to my eyes man. What a fucking song
Would love to see a journey through outkast albums next if you haven’t heard them already :)
Can't wait for the 'Relapse' reaction. personally, it's a top 3-4 Em album. idk if you'd like it, but I'm always intrigued to hear other peoples opinions on that album.
He won’t like it lol
Amazing album. Looking forward to seeing you do The Eminem Show
I know many prefer his older stuffs, but people still overlook his storytelling from his last albums unless you are part of the fans that actually enjoy the complexity....Even all the back to 2013 which is the sequel to this, Bad Guy. Never Love Again and Darkness is up there. Medicine Man verse gives the "White America vibe" although a bit different, Kings Never Dies is mad inspirational, reminds me of Till i Collapse, but its more effective in modern time talking about his legacy rather than the way to the top. Also my all time favourite songs probarbly is Gon Learn and Not Alike actually. I just love the schemes on those two songs..Gon Learn water scheme with reference to Napoleon lost battle at Waterloo and Guns/muscle scheme at Not Alike. The aggressive rapping at Not Alike and the constant top notch bars at Gon Learn. Royce da 5`9 got a insane good verse at Gon Learn as well, they are neck in neck on that song
That was great to revisit this amazing album.👏
Hi Jon,
Love the reaction. Just a question: could you maybe add time stamps to make it more clear what song starts when? Just to be able to find it back throughout the video.
Keep it up💪

My favorite album of all time
Drug Ballad is one of my fav Em songs
The fact that this albums was as controversial as it was and it's the best selling rap album of all time shows how everyone was and it's till this day sick of this dumb crap that happens in society, Eminem was the incarnation of freedom of speech, he impacted rap by opening a route to not having to fear expressing your believes while also acknowledging and being aware of your own flaws as a human being.
how I wish I could hear this album again for the first time!
It’s really scary the fact that the day before you did this I decided to listen to this album for the first time in my life. I’m 23 and first heard of him from the album recovery. And has been a fan ever since but somehow never went back to this amazing album😭
I've been waiting for this day for a very long time
Fav reaction of my fav album hope to see my stuff covered by you one day
I was 12 when this CD released and my parents wouldn't buy me the explicit version. On the edited version Kim is replaced by a song called The Kids. I remember going to school and everyone was talking about the Kim track, and someone showed me on their walkman good times! The Kids is a pretty funny track too
I never noticed the importance of who knew coming directly after stan, really powerful in retrospect.
This was great been a long time since I've heard that Album, kinda forgot how many hits on on it.
This dudes gone so far ahead of everyone else he's come back around and now gets compared... He's the best, no one has mastered rapping like him. Many come close, but he's better.
You just experienced what I listened to on the bus to school every day in middle school.
“I’m tryna develop these pictures of the devil to sell em’” 😂don’t why I love this ancient line from “Kill You” so much but it’s always been a vast favorite of mine. Out of all music, any artist, I love that line so much. There’s just something about evil absurdity that I enjoy. 😂
Just learning renaissance poetry and the 4 beat and how hard it is to do, Eminem is a master poet
The Eminem Show approaches the highs of this album almost. In it's own way, which is what is amazing.
Love this album
SSLP, MMLP and the Eminem show are the holy trinity of Em and imo his greatest work is within those 3 albums
He still has story telling masterpieces. Bad guy, darkness, legacy, castle/arose… he’s just constantly held to the standard of “Stan” because it was such a success. Yes he is more technical with his rapping lately, but he still has songs with substance. He’s also said that he isn’t really looking to make the big hits anymore. The man is 50 years old and he’s having fun while showing that nobody can out rap him.
To be fair, I think most people who actually listen to em would say that he was still good when he dropped MMLP2(which is the album bad guy and legacy are on) but it think the issue is with the rest of the tracks on those newer albums.
His older albums only have a couple of mid/bad tracks at worse whereas there’s a really substantial chunk of his newer albums that just aren’t to the standard of those classic records, not even close.
@@stanners1714 what standard are those old songs being held to though? If he rapped about the stuff he did back then, he would get hate for not saying anything new. His standard for skill level when rapping on newer songs is leagues above the old. He’s 50 years old and just having fun. He can’t keep repeating the same stories over and over. It’s an unrealistic expectation to have for a music artist
Em is at his best when hes speaking about topics that affect him personally. (Kim, kill you, Stan,The Way I Am, Darkness, Kill Shot, White America, Cleaning out my closet.. etc. )
Of course some of the early songs seem to hit harder and a bit more personally, he was going through a complete change of life with being in the spotlight, and being constantly blamed for being a bad influence. Now hes out of the main public eye, and more making a statement on the current state of the rap game and is content just running lyrical marathons around the garbage that is prevalent out in the mainstream.
The problem is that most peoples opinions are still swayed by the drug album years.
I was hoping that he would take Games bait and respond with something massive like he did with Kill Shot or The Warning. Still have my fingers crossed that he was on a release blackout because of the RnR HoF induction
No these are musically TRASH, don't you hear in your ears that EVERYTHING in stan is musically PERFECT, beat, rap, chorus, it's one of the best SONGS EVER
@@ZelenikTchingy Okay Thommy with an h...
Loved this! Regardless of his newer stuff, I doubt we’ll see anything like when he burst onto the scene again. Shook up the game, dropped 3 classics back to back plus a movie. The man is a certified legend!
I feel like drug ballad is so fucking underrated
ty for making a long video.
HOLY SHT!!! This you're first time listen?? This album is literally from start to finish one of the best albums of all time. 🙌 Im excited 😊 I'm going to be rapping every word 😅😅

who knew ... stan...gosh these might even be more relevant songs today than they were at the time of release, wild.
They released another version of this album that removed the song 'Kim' and replaced with it with a song called 'The Kids' You should give it a listen, tbh when I was 10 years old I'm glad I had that version, my 10 year old brain wouldn't have been able to comprehend or handle that song at all.
Damn wasnt expecting anymore Em reactions from you lol. Would love for you to check out Dr Dres Compton album from 2015, has to be the one of the most underrated albums of all time imo. Lots of Kendrick and Anderson Paak fts, and phenomenal beats
I think you definitely should do re-reactions to some albums you've heard before!
The thing with em is a lot of his older music definitely got fuelled by a lot of hate, a lot of anger and ALOT of repressed feelings that needed off his chest.
Nowadays em has a pretty great life. He’s not got the same drive or the same story telling in his songs, but I don’t necessarily think he needs it either. He’s earned his praise with all of this older stuff, nowadays he just makes what he wants to whether it lands or doesn’t. And for him being 50 and still doing this and arguably doing it better than a lot half his age is something to be admired. He’ll never make hits like Stan, but songs like stepping stones that came out recently show he still has a touch of that narrative drive buried deep in there somewhere.
Can’t wait for you to get to Marshall Mathers LP 2, one of my favourite lyrical albums personally
the greatest rap album ever imo every song is a banger
Eminem show is also a masterpiece
I’ve never heard more creative bars in my life than Drug Ballad. That track was toooooo insane
SSLP came out my sophomore year of HS, needless to say I’ve been a fan for 25Ish years, but Amityville is one of his most underrated tracks…
The fact that you said stans while listening to Stan is great 😂
*MMLP is a classic. TES is my favorite Em project.*
Higher standard for setting his own bar.. I can 100% agree and I think it would be naive for anyone to debate different. Having said that, many tend to forget / gloss over / not take into account that this man overdosed to the point where he needed relearn how to rap. Realistically, “this” EM and the “current” EM are two completely different people / minds. Though I can certainly appreciate the “other” EM, his progression overall is quite honestly nothing short of amazing. Lyrics are subjective but the technicals of music theory are not and to those that truly understand said technicals (not to say you don’t) there is no question that current EM is light years ahead of old EM and practically everyone else. His arsenal is ridiculous but, yes, he’s too good for his own good which is why people feel like he tries too hard / puts too much into a track. It’s almost like he won’t allow himself to be simplistic while staying creative. Great video!
Eminem is doing this and a whole lot more in his new music. It's exactly what he speaks of, that everyone holds him to this album. This is a radio play album minus a few tracks. So it comes across as more nuanced. It's just easier to digest. His new stuff is just harder to casually listen to because the same thing is said within doubles and triples. It just doesn't appeal commercially anymore.
“This puppy’s lucky I didn’t blast his ass yet”
This line makes me laugh more than almost any other lyric all time
Where did you get that flannel jacket!? It’s dope
This is one of your best videos
man I know you’ll get to it but Ab Soul - Do Better just WOW never thought I hear a song like that from Soul can’t wait for the reaction. But this album is one of my favorite albums of all time, and the stuff he raps about I don’t think it’s shock value I think he really trying to be the best rapper out at that time and his drug mind comes up with this crazy shit but raps it so fucking amazing.
Woah you’ve never heard this?????? I can’t wait to watch this.
This album brings me to my younger days
im 32 eminem was my first rapper i listened too i wanted the eminem show because of the song "without me" and i bought mmlp not know the actual song at that time and well i think it was 100000% worth it.
Xzibit is one of my favorite rappers. Him and Eminem is always masterclass.
He doesn't try to do too much, it's just that now there isn't many subjects he's not done if any so it's more lyrical aerobics and technical rapping now basically just trying to outrap himself and show his ability. Even whilst doing that he still manages to provide context.
Not rly
I mean god dude Eminem is 50 he aint gonna be performing like hes in his prime. its remarkable he still makes albums of any quality nowadays. especially ones like Music To Be Murdered By.
