Role model will always be one of my favorite eminem songs. This album is so insane for the time, but it is still probably my top 2 albums of his(mmlp is my no.1)
I haven’t listened to this whole album in something like 14 or 15 years at least. Was cool to go back and visit it with you. One track more than any other made me close my eyes and just vibe, cause Jesus, when Role Model’s dark, glorious beat dropped, just waves of nostalgia and memories, and damn if it doesn’t still sound phenomenal; especially when Em’s thickly accented, beautifully unorthodox flow and unique cadence from days of old starts, and those jagged-edge-on-both-sides, sardonic, bold, boundary pushing lyrics unfurl, delivered with controlled aggression and a sneer, it’s still, just so…delicious. It still makes me make that face and start nodding 😂. “How can I be white, I don’t even exist?”, still one of the greatest lyrics. Ever. So intelligent. So original. So layered. Iconic even. Ice T said it was the lyric that really caught his attention, and first impressed him about Eminem. Role Model, Brain Damage, Rock Bottom, Guilty Conscience, Just Don’t Give A F, and of course STILL Don’t Give A F (the perfect middle finger song 😂). For over 20 years old, it’s incredible how these track and this album still sound, well, incredible…and incredibly unique; and for over 20 years old, it’s amazing how controversial this album STILL IS 😂 No other mainstream rap artist has ever made an album this ruthless and controversial as a first widespread commercial release, especially. Still, for all its edge and controversy, I believe I will love it forever. It’s just an incredible piece of work and was a true artistic achievement. And what’s amazing is that it still is. It’s the marker of a perfect, specific moment in time, when a fearless new artist, pissed at the world and blessed with immense talent inside the rage, released all of that uncensored and straight into his art for the masses, that I don’t think we will ever see duplicated again. But damn if it wasn’t cool to be alive when this was brand new and as it was actually happening. Weren’t we the lucky ones? EDIT: Eminem said Kim was SO PISSED when she found out what he did with Hailey on the Bonnie and Clyde track 😂
Crazy part of the song Brain Damage is that it was a true story about D'angelo Bailey who was a bully who broke his nose who later sued Eminem for that song. The judge even rapped her decision in that case dismissing the lawsuit.
If you reaaaally wanna go to the beginning, Infinite and the Slim Shady EP are also there. And his freestyles/verses on radiostations around that time are EPIC.
Eminem man.. he was my favourite artist growing up, he was literally all I listened to. He is the reason Hip Hop/Rap is my fav genre of music. I was 3 years old when this album came out haha.

what's sick about 97 Bonnie and Clyde is that he used Hailie's real baby voice, that's why it "Bonnie and Clyde" - "Just the 2 of us" (on the EP) cause it's Shady ft. Hailie Jade ( Kim diss)
Surprised you weren't more impressed with as the world turns, the flows he has on that tune are still up there with the best ever. Whipped that shit out, and ain't no doubt about it. It hit the ground, caused an earthquake and power outage!
