Rustic Cabin Perfection & The Art Of Salvage
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2023
- This week we visit an incredible cabin which is packed full of rustic charm. From the large ex-telephone polls outside, to the reclaimed timber and brick interior, this cabin’s construction shows a mastery of the art of salvage.
At only 30m2, this cabin packs a real punch! It's cozy, stylish and emanates a strong sense of home. The clever addition of a semi-outdoor bathroom and the large connecting undercover deck completes the home perfectly. This small home has largely been constructed using reclaimed materials making it not only affordable but packed full of character.
The cabin is situated on a 5 acre property which is being established as a micro farm, with a small amount of land for grazing animals, growing vegetables as well as impressive conversation wetland plantings.
We hope you enjoy the tour of this cabin! Louis is a beekeeper and has his own delicious honey brand. You can find out more about that here: mangawhaihoney.co.nz/

As you all know I'm such a huge fan of using reclaimed materials in homes. There's nothing the builds story and character into a home faster than the re-use of materials and this beautiful rustic cabin is a brilliant example of that! We hope you enjoy the tour of this wonderful home. With Love, Bryce & Rasa
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Bryce & Rasa. This definitely one that you guys will have to return to in a few years 💜
Love this home!! me and my husband are currently building a tiny home! We love watching your videos and drawing so much inspiration from each individuals style and design! Hopefully ours will be done around September! But we are building it ourselves so it’s taken some time!! Thanks for the video❤
In the zone
Love the layout. Especially the bathroom. First time seeing this and I can see how well it would work. What breed is their dog? It has beautiful eyes.
Love how they built a whole life on the land... martial arts, gardening, beekeeping...wow
Been following this channel for years. Bryce is a perfect host. Always professional, always encouraging, always lovely. Seems like a special person.
Yesss, same here. Love him and this page!
Much love to you!
Yes I enjoy watching him
Julia is correct. Items left on open shelves get dirty very quickly, and even more so if you have a fuel stove in the room. Open shelves may look pretty, but they are not practical and create a lot more work for the person who has to clean them.
I couldn't disagree more.!
There are certainly both pros and cons, and it's important to acknowledge the challenges when selecting one approach over another.
Yes, last place we lived had stuff on an open set of shelves and it was a nuisance.. 😕
Meh, if youre leaving it laying around so much that the only cleaning you do is wipe it off from just collecting dust then is it necessary or even a bad thing?
They have a baby too, so it really needs to be closed up unless they can block off the whole kitchen
They can easily add on another bedroom to the right of the master bedroom without having to build another home. 😊💕
I'm going to build a tiny house soon.
We'll be waiting till Bryce and Rasa will visit you!
🙏
Me too!
Congratulations!
Me too, here in Rwanda 😊
The brick wall is gorgeous.
This is absolutely another of my favourites. I really like these one-floor houses... future proofing.
This is beautifully planned. I love the eco-friendly options and it's a great outcome for 85kUSD (of course factoring in personal work without labor).
Thank you Rasa and Bryce. This was amazing. I really like how you've been featuring single -floor houses of late, showing how one could live an environmental-friendly life while also catering to personal preferences and convenience.
Agree
L❤VE the front porch! The fact that this couple values land more than house size, used reclaimed materials to build their home and are ‘working the land’, by growing food, etc… makes it one of my favorites. Also, the Jujitsu gym is great! Two of my favorite things: gardens & Martial Arts, right on their property! ❤
This home is so beautifully rustic. I love the fact he used recycled materials, which when one finds them, are a super deal. That porch really makes it look like a regular sized home - I love it! He also has room to add on an addition if he chose to. Living off the land he has, which is gorgeous, is smart. A good way to teach your children. This man and his family are on the right track. Thanks for sharing!
It’s nice and airy inside ,you don’t feel cramped at all like some homes. They could even add on two more bedrooms for the children if they need to in a few years around that one side .Perfect place to bring up children.
Agree, I hate the thought of them upping sticks (and stone!) to move somewhere else relatively soon after moving in.... 2 years will fly by.
That's what I was thinking too! They could easily add on to that one side 😍. They definitely shouldn't leave! I am loving so much about this home set up!!!
It's nice to see Hugh Jackman giving a tour of his home. Truly the epitome of Living Big In A Tiny House.
Nothing quite like a newborn baby. Man I’m tellin U! I’m a father who misses it dearly. My children are adults now so the hugs, & kisses don’t come as often as they used to, but hey, at least I have grandchildren to love on now!!! 🙏🏿
I would really appreciate the angles of the shot that have been taken....looks absolutely professional....got hooked to tiny houses bcoz of you bryce!!😅
Thanks so much! So glad you liked this episode. Rasa is getting too good with her videography! :)
Me too. Been binge watching. Some day...I will get myself a tiny house... even if I don't build it myself, hopefully something that would follow the principles of tiny-house living. 🤞🏽
I love how he found all of these deals. The house has so much character. Also, I'm more comfortable with a small home on a foundation. Love that there are more of these about and being featured.
Wow they live in a beautiful place… love that they added shade to the house
If this doesn’t inspire young people to go Tiny I don’t know what will? Simply adorable 🥰👍🙏
Well, Bryce & Rasa, yet another winner of a tiny..... They just keep coming or you keep finding them! This one is a cracker; a mish-mass of textures and timbers that work so well together. Such a lovely couple too with one super cute baby...
It is so impressive how well they are using the land! A home, a garden (with cattle and sheep!) and not one but 2 businesses, AND habitat restoration! It is so impressive, and also is a sharp reminder how inefficiently we use land with other forms of housing development.
I love the single floor designs. I've wrecked my foot and ankle so ladders are out completely and even steep stairs give me pause. I really hope to get property soon and subdivide to put 2 tinies. That way my brother (retired Air Force) and I can each have our own home but close enough we can help each other out! Loving the ideas I can check out on these videos!!
Oh, I was never this early for your video. Just wanted to say thank you for showing us these incredible homes and thank you for showing what a nice human being in general you are. Support and love from Belgrade, Serbia.
Thanks for your lovely comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode!
We had all our babies in our closet until they were about 8-9 months. Then they moved in to their own room. Love the closet babies ❤😉
yeah, and thanks to the one-floor build all they have to do is take a bit of that HUGE deck, say the part in front of the bathroom, and add some walls to turn it into a proper room for the kid ;-)
@@PeyaLunaI was thinking the same except to let the kids have the parents room, since it's open to the rest of the house and you could watch them easily, while putting up a baby gate of sorts, to keep them out of the open cabinets and exposed wood burning stove.
Then extend out from the bathroom, down the porch to just before the living room doors. Knock a doorway out into the bathroom, at the foot of the couch by the TV. Then you'd have the bathroom to the right and the master bedroom to the left. Put a nice big picture window to the front, matching the other bedroom. And now you have a master with an ensuite and more than enough room for a large closet.
And most importantly, you do not have to bundle up and go outside in the middle of winter just to use a freezing cold restroom. 😱😳
This home is a zen symphony of simple, eco & budget-friendly materials, beautifully designed & executed! There's such a sense of peace with this lovely young family. Wishing them all the best in their endeavors! Thank you for sharing, Bryce & Rasa!!!
Beautiful home. And I love the idea of the bathroom being separate from the living space. Really beautiful..
Love the deep porches.
Bryce and Rasa you've found another of my "newest" favourite. 😂 Thank You from the Hawkes Bay ❤🎉👍🙏🥳
Is your top 10 like mine... with about 50 tinies all jostling for the number 1 spot?
SO nice to see color, variety of materials and textures! I am heartily sick of blank white "decor".
I love the bathroom and their tiny house looks spacious and their closet is huge. I believe they can add to the tiny house for the baby and children to come!
Bryce: "And there's nothing more relaxing than just... being able to watch a cow."
I couldn't agree more!
An enlightened use of what's available
I so love these tours. This was a great tiny house.
heavenly, loving the saw materials the trunks with the minimal clean aesthetic, the bees the landscapes, gardens who could ask for more?
I was legit waiting for a new video to drop and boom, here it is!❤️🔥
Perfect timing!
Wow now theres a gorgeous lil bubba he is beautiful.
Your tiny house is awsome.
it is so clean and comfortable
TBH this is my favorite set up. I love the utilitarian beauty and efficiency of this home coupled with the 2 1/2 acres and all they've been doing with that! I love this.
I so appreciate how the ingenuity of this couple and their tiny home outsmarted the inflation costs of the day! Bravo! Your baby boy is beautiful! Stay Blessed.
certainement la maison la mieux conçue et la plus agréable à vivre! les matériaux, les dimensions, l'agencement sont tout à fait harmonieux ! elle ne ressemble à aucune autre et le patio tout autour est très bien étudié! bravo!
This is a beautiful home! Love the ranch style floor plan, and the wrap around porch. The expansive views are a true Gift~Thank You Bryce & Rasa~~
I never caught your video so early! :OD
LOVE this channel and all the amazing homes and people you bring to us! Keep it up Bryce and Rasa! ❤
Thanks so much! Glad you could make it here early this week!
I've reluctantly lived in Upstate NY for the past 28 years, where temperatures range from -20°F in the winter to +95°F (or higher) in the summer. The thought of a separate bathroom just makes me shudder! But in a previous life I spent a few months in NZ and depending on where you are, I guess that could work. Very impressed with the reuse of materials! Thanks for the tour!
They did such an incredible job of marrying warmth and minimalism! It’s so clean and streamlined, yet every item in the house has such character. Love it!
Yes! That is very tough to do tho!
Amazing design! Love the overarching design and the over all shape of the structure. Keep up the phenomenal work Bryce, Rasa, and team!
Beautiful place, loved the kitchen, so serviceable. Green is my favorite color and it really worked well in there. Smart bathroom idea, I would love one like that. Hope their business adventures take off.
"so you're a family of 3 living here?"
"yeah"
Dog: crawling in my skin these wounds they will not heal!
🤔 💭.. BRYCE, SIMPEL + RUSTIC HOME FARM SET ON COUNTY SIDE!. CENTER POINT OF THAT FARM PROJECT : THE KITCHEN, AS A BAGON-COOKING 🧑🍳. COOL
simple and sophisticated.. newzealand never misses to amaze❤
Totally agree with him about spending my money on more land and a small/comfortable size home. I don't want to spend money on heating and cooling rooms that are not used, nor do I want to spend my time cleaning extra large rooms; I want to be outside enjoying the land. Really nice home with all the outdoor space and rooms that flow together plus all the reclaimed material.
Are we seeing an evolution in tiny living? From every space possible being used as storage to a simpler expectation of living life with fewer things? Maybe someday you’ll do a bit of a retrospective of tiny houses through the years and how they, and the people who call them home, have changed. Love this house!
Awesome location...Love the home and the fact reclaimed materials were used...Well done! 🥰😍🤩😀😃😄
The tiny homes with a bathroom outside are in top of my favourites list. I love how the materials he salvaged have a story to add to his home. Brick wall & bathroom are the best features here. Well done.
Rasa and Bryce, always introducing us to these amazing adventure homes. Such a nice peek into their life on land too. Thanks guys :)
One Level - Outdoor Living - Room to Extend - Simple and Straight Forward!
Love it!
So lovely.😍 I just love this show. I want my own tiny house. I need to find a beautiful place here in Canada like these New Zealand sites. I’m researching. Might have purchase an already built tiny home. 🤔
Beautiful home and lovely young family!!
Loving the rustic vibe! Using reclaimed materials is always the most rewarding part of building something. I would have put an internal door through to the bathroom and a slow combustion fire place in there too AND once that gorgeous baby starts walking I think they’ll be adding doors to those low open shelves in the kitchen !😜😜
I agree with all these points, i'm not sure how bad bugs get in NZ but using that bathroom in the PNW i'd be getting ate up by mosquitos at night.. also i'd worry about bugs getting into my clothes
Such a beautiful home that appears simple but has everything you need for comfort. I would definitely live there!
Wow, you have so many Accomplishments 🌞.
You and your Brother did a beautiful job !
Þhe Wood is gorgeous 👍.
JO JO IN VT 🇺🇲💞
I love a rustic-styled house. This house is so simple and functional. I love it.
This looks absolutely gorgeous, the character that reclaimed building materials bring can never be achieved with new stuff plus it is better for our environment too! ❤❤❤
Gorgeous rustic cabin for your family. I love the posts out front, the window views, the green accents along with the brick, wood, and stainless steel. Your baby is adorable and your dog is beautiful. All the best to your 🐝🐝🐝 business.
Gorgeous mix of materials -- and the reclaimed is the best!
what a beautiful tiny home!
Saturdays tradition is watching Living Big In A Tiny House! What a beautiful little family home, I love how it is all on one floor, it looks so cozy and warm, great deck for the Northland summertime!
This was so very cool. BUT! Where the heck is the washer and dryer? The fact that I didn’t see them anywhere causes me huge anxiety. 😝
Wow they got huge land that they can build a mansion instead they decided a Lovely tiny house with everything you need.nice one!👍😊
Beautiful home, love the design. Baby is so cute 😍

I really like the open concept of the living space with the kitchen and lounge area combined. All the reclaimed timber is absolutely gorgeous and I love the color scheme they chose. ADORABLE dog too!
Very ambitious and skilled people!
Love this straightforward layout and shed bathroom.
Been watching your channel for a few years. Bryce is a fantastic host: courteous, professional and always finding something unique about each home he visits to compliment. Lovely home. Thank you for these awesome videos.
I cannot with the these lands views in your videos. Just greenly beautiful love it. I love rustic feel to a home. Thanks Bryce and Rasa ❤️❤️
The 1970s are back! That avocado green cabinet in the kitchen is the same color as the oven in the house I grew up in. Love it!
Wow, amazing results. Love it
Manifesting an original tiny home for myself. This house is perfect. Your land is gorgeous and yalls home is so warm and original. So much character🤗. Well done! Plus how smart you are to have done so many apprentices to be able to live substantially!
First glimpse into the home and I was like, "Oooo! Yes!" But as soon as the baby is crawling, you'll build cabinets!
A beautiful home, such a brilliant and simple design!!!
Really love this home. Gorgeous family, gorgeous baby, gorgeous dog.
Bryce, your hair looks nice. Great vid. LOVE the protective porch covering. Cabinets are nice to keep dust off of shelves & dishes.

Love the green.
So beautiful!!!
Finally, tiny house owners that actually own their own land too.
Guess you can't complain too much with today's insane land prices.
Beautiful home, I do love how they were able to obtain materials which could be re-used so well.
Seeing the living space, I could only think of the word kindness
Such a warm cosy home, the wood and stone work is set off beautifully against those green shades.❤❤❤
Love it especially the deck.
Watched for years. This is one of my favorite layouts. Love this house idea with the big porch and bathroom area.
