Going Off Grid Ep11 - Shed Cabin Build Pt2
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 май 2023
- In the first video Judy and I built the steel Portal frame. In this video we finish the structure to Lock Up stage. Fit out is next. This is will be our tiny house/ cabin for at least the time it takes us to build an actual house. We have all our Owner Builder approvals in place. As far as shed kits go, I am very happy with the everything despite having minor issues. The supplier was great. Total build time was around 18 solid days. Elapsed time was longer due to weather and life.
Shed colour Monument.
Size 8m x 6m with a 3m verandah.
Height 3.9m
Thanks for watching!
Regards Scott - Хобби
A lost art.....Two people that are married working together. Great job.
I think you are right. Thank you Dave!
Well done Judy. And the guy that helps out sometimes too, didn't catch his name
He goes alright sometimes, that fella.
Is there a guy that helps out? All Judy from what I can see :) Love you guys ♥
😂
Hey Mate full of admiration of you both for having a go and building your future home. Welcome to the Tablelands and it’s climatic conditions 👍. It can be trying sometimes as we found out when building our house in 2021
@@johnjordan4647 Thank you John! The weather has been interesting, but we are loving it. All the best!
Good work Judy and assistant,i spose at least he can cook a steak on the rocket stove. Another enjoyable build and video Both of you
Judy says thank you, and yes Scott cooks the Best steaks ever ;) Cheers Roy!
HalleluYah
Shalom
Yah bless enjoyed watching that ☺️
Shalom! Thank you Amanuel!
You say “we are not professional builders, but we do what we can”. Man if that is not professional then what is! Keep the good work man. Excited to see how it turns out 👍🏻
Much appreciated Tom!
Your wife is beautiful - I hope you appreciate her lots! Thanks for posting the vids
Agreed and yes I certainly appreciate her. Thank you.
Teamwork makes the dream work, great job both of you, it’s coming together 👌😊
Much appreciated Jenni, so true.
A great way to spend my Saturday afternoon watching your update.
I hope you enjoy the video! All the best.
A “he” shed. And a “she” shed. What a fantastic idea. Again we’ll done to both of you. Hope your shoulder feels better soon Judy. Looking forward to the fitout inside.
Thank you Peter!
He shed, she said. Lol
Great video, loved the lockout shot especially but good god man, dosen't she know that a man can't have too many sheds lol. Looking forwards to the outfit video....👍🇬🇧👍
Haha, correct Tony! Thanks mate!
Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy your videos and look forward to new videos. Judy is a bonza sheila so supportive of your home project, besides she has a beautiful smile.
Thank you!
Stellar result for two weeks work 👍👍
Nice work Judy, hope you are being paid well. Look after the apprentice 😂.
It is a great building milestone for you to be in the dry. Nice looking shed. Beautiful wife. Just a bit of advise. I let my wife use my tools and some space in my shop. Now I spend an unusual amount of effort rounding up my tools and cleaning up where she has been working.
Haha, well Judy is happy to leaves the workshop to me. Thanks David!
Great job helping out Judy.
Love it! Can't wait for the next shed! I mean, barndominium!
Haha, yes the tractor shed has to be next :) thanks DB
Looking good Scott... Thx for bringing us along.. Watch out for those Huntsman...lol.. Take care my friend and God Bless...
Thanks for dropping by Gary. All the best and God Bless!
I’m staring down the barrel of a crappy night shift here in the UK mate. Delighted to see an update for my break, takes the edge off slightly. Cheers!
So good to hear the video helps :) Done plenty of crappy night shifts myself (A while back now)
I am enjoying the off grid build series so much Scott! I hope to do the same someday myself. Judy is kickin arse!
Thank you Bonnie! Yes she is :)
I'm really looking forward to and ultimately dreading building something like this. The hardest part for me was getting together enough stand-alone power to live off-grid. Unless you have a spare $20k handy, nobody wants to talk to you about rural off-grid. If I lived in a metro area and wanted to do a feed-back-to-grid system then it'd be almost free, by comparison lol.
I wish I had your rainfall lol. I run to town about every fortnight to haul water from the public bore, but you get used to it. Slowly getting enough roof-space for usefull run-off. Living in a tent teaches you a lot about tarps. Soon I'll have saved enough for a caravan and then I can get started on a pad and some hard panel annex for more roof and living space. The insulation will be welcome for winter too.
My main issue (I think) for putting up a structure like this will be getting the main frames in place on my own. Lots of ropes and pulleys by the look of things. Might all get a bit ancient Egypt here for a bit.
I'm loving the look of the place already and you haven't even begun the interior!
Thanks for your comment CB! Building by your self would be tough. Yes lots of cunning plans you must hatch. A caravan would be a good base. Off the ground and built in storage etc. We were really glad when we set up the water tanks. Before that we hauled the water in 20 l jerry cans. Getting your power is easier nowadays with DIY but still is an investment, particularly if you need high wattage for cooking etc. If you don't need high wattage you can build a much smaller, cheaper system I guess. Thanks again and all the best!
@@ScottTurnerformeindustrious power was a real worry until I figured out that I could start with a cheap generator and some small stand-alone panel/battery sets. I then slowly expanded them until I had enough power for my 24/7 needs then a little extra. Rarely need the gennie now.
Loved it👍👍me and my wife always work together, and I love it
Great to hear Richard! Thank you!
Great job Scott. If you don't have a vermin problem ignore this. make a skit under the bottom sheets to stop unwanted pest getting in the rib of the sheets. I live in South East QLD & we found out the hard way with the mice plagues .My place is sealed up now, no pests or snakes can get in the walls/roof.!
Thanks Kyle! We have a slab edge rebate for the sheets to sit on. 45mm below slab height. Should help.
Mate, I love this. From start to finish, I was enthralled. And you're lucky, my ex didn't know one end of a hammer from the other. So looking forward to the next instalment. 👍👍🍺
Thanks Chris! Yes Judy is a great hand. I'm priming her to help build a Super Yacht next!
Well done, team work dream work.
Plus I love eucalyptus trees beautiful view
Thank you! Yes beautiful trees!
VERY NICE JOB GUYS. THE GUTTER SYSTEM SEEMED SOO EASY. I LIKE IT. THANKS FOR SHARING
Thank you!!
Congrats Scott and Judy on another milestone in your journey. Pretty inspiring to watch your progress.
Much appreciated Delivered Concepts!
Such a great channel Scott. Can't wait to get each new upload. Really really enjoy it.
Great to hear that, than you!
I. Really. Like. This. Steel. 🏠❤️👌👌👌
beautiful project well done both we are going to do the same in Thailand 2023-2024 thankyou for the ideas steve and nam thailand
Thanks Steve and Nam! All the best for your build.
Unreal guys, I'm loving the new offgrid builds videos.
Much appreciated Der Adler!
Great stuff Mr&Mrs T! You two make a great team! I love the videos and look forward to the next stage in your new dwellings!
Scott, I love the way you go through each stage of the build and how you discuss how and why you are doing certain things. Even the attention to detail of protecting the fascia as not to scratch it at your awning. Any other tradie would have just forced it in and left it. I envy the peacefulness and the surroundings of nature you will enjoy, I love the water tanks and the other bits and pieces that we take for granted living in our concrete suburbia.
I’m looking forward to your heating set up and power set up for the new build, you gotta build a nice big wood stove in there Scott! One that you cook on and heat the home. I miss the big Aga stove from back home, it connected to radiators in all the rooms, heated all the house up as well as done all the cooking. All the best on the journey Scott!
Thank you Franko for your encouraging comment! Yes we will be building a wood stove hopefully very soon. All the very best!
Pretty slick lookin shed. Cheers 4 sharing.
Thank you Just Tex!
you two are a HOOT! enjoying the channel!

Many thanks Ross!
You make a great team. And you did good.
Thank you Drew!
Looking great, Scott and Judy!
Thank you Andrew!
Hope your shoulder gets better soon, Judy. We are here in Cardiff South Wales, United Kingdom 🇬🇧 it is great to see how different countries build homes. Looks fantastic, it will be great to see the finishing home 🏡
Thank you Lloyd! Judy's shoulder seems to have improved in the last few days. Yes the fit out will be interesting. At least it will be out of the sun.
Great teamwork! Knowing why you’re building and who you’re building for. That extra helping hand really makes the difference.
Thank you! Having an offsider sure helps.
Hi Guys, these videos are totally awesome. I can’t wait to see the inside, it’s fantastic. Steve
Thankyou Steven!
Where would you be without judy haha. Great job guys, really loving watching the progress !

Your first rodeo, love it 😍
Great sense of satisfaction, getting that all buttoned up. Well done, both of you.
Lol. "If it's not windy, it's stinking hot or it's raining." Yep. Been there.
Perfect weather now that it is built :)

Cant wait... This has been a fantastic series so far... Health to enjoy it bud.
What a spot, a dream place.
Nice work you two. Judy is a legend, what a worker, hats off to you!
When my wife is helping me I always insist she wears hearing protection, gloves, steel caps and anything else to protect her depending on what we are doing, while I wear Aussie Steel Caps (Thongs)... Joking aside, its the only way to protect your love.
Well said C Waddy. Yes lovely place, thankyou!
Scott, i know you are skilled with your hands, but watching anyone work sheet metal without gloves gives me the heebie jeebies. Great build.
Thanks Dino. I like to feel the material and yes it teaches you to use your hands carefully.
Great video you two. You make everything look easy. Of course anyone who has ever done anything knows that nothing is ever easy. Thank you for taking the extra time it takes to video all this. It looks great.
Thank you Jim. Spot on.
That really is the business, guys. It is a real steady steady process. It is great to see it coming together despite the weather setbacks over an extended wet.
Thanks Dale! Bit by bit it comes together. The body is a bit sore too! All the best mate.
Great work both of you.
Thanks Keith!
I bought an off grid shed house just like this. Already build with all off grid features and It’s the best buy of my life. Hope you enjoy yours just as much
Great to hear Johan! Thank you!
Hello Scott
Haaaaa! ok you made your workshop and now your home! good!
In more you have space around, I really like it !
Thank you! Lots do do still with the fit out. Lot's of nature all around too. All the best!
Great job you guys, wish I could have come over and helped.
Thanks Anthony! :)
Onya Jude! Looks great Scott.
Thanks Sue!
Great work guys
Thank you Anthony!
Geez, a fully black metal shed. Perfect for baking!
Haha, hope not.
Awesome couple. Nice to see you all enjoy the build. I must also admit that it looks very very nice.
Thank you Kris! We have to make it home now.
Good job, looking forward to the next video
Thank you!
Well done!! 👌👍! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Rudy!
Great job, you two! Looking forward to the next installment. Thanks for sharing your journey. Thumbs up!
Thank you TCM! All the best!
Awesome stuff you two. Looking forward the next episode of the internal fit out.
Much appreciated!
Oh damn, rainwater collection system? And a big one too, love to see it. Always loved the idea of two tanks, a big gray water tank and a smaller well fed tank, elevated for a gravity pressure system.
We'll have a large elevated tank and a smaller tank to feed it. On the big shed we have a large tank, so 3 all up.
Good on you both, it looks real good, keep the smiles coming, and thanks again for sharing your journey.
Always lots of big smiles when a project is finished, but now we moved onto the next one. Thanks again and all the best!
Judy’s labourer seems to be coming along. Might be ready for his own tool bag soon
If he plays his cards right he might :)
This woman is a treasure. Helpful and beautiful. Regards :)
Agreed. That's why I married her 31 years ago :)
You got it dried in. That's a big step. Things will be much more comfortable now that you're out of the sun, rain, and wind. Congratulations. It makes things a lot less urgent.
Thank you Ross! Yes agreed.
Well done to you both the new building looks fantastic.
Looking forward to seeing it once completed. All the best from Newport South Wales 🏴 UK
Thank you so much!
Wish we saw this last September. This clip is full of lots of tips. Thanks Scott.👍

When it rains it is :) Thanks Shane!
Well done Mrs. Turner, glad to see that you were able to get Scott to help you out more than last time. ;)
He is a Sloth but sometimes he's okay ;)
Sloths are wicked cute though.

Thank you!
Looks great big thumbs up from Texas.
Thank you Texas Star!
To easy mate. Lovely Job👍
Great job guys you both did really well looking forward tthe next video remember when things get a bit hard it'll be worth it in the end and no one can take away the fact that you built it yourselves. Awesome
Thank you Darin! Yes there is lots to do, but it's like you say, all worth it.
Good job both! Thx a lot for sharing
Hello from Arizona! My wife and I love watching you both work together. Nice job!
Thank you to you both! All the best!
Just some advice.
The ends of the roof sheets should have the valleys folded up and the ridge cap should be flat on the peaks with the lower lip cut to the contour of the roof to prevent strong winds pushing rain underneath it.
Same for awning. Folded valleys and then shed roof over top. :)
PS : love your videos.
You build some cool stuff.
Yes, I believe you are right with the ridge cap, re cutting in. I have weathered (Folded up) all the sheets at the peak and into the gutter (Slight dip down).
The place looks great, guys. Well done!!!
Thank you!!
Fantastic cant wait for the fit out
Thanks Patick!
Amazing as always. I was excited to see another instalment waiting to be enjoyed. Love your work as always and you both working as a team
