Ah, now this is SUPER helpful to me and my projects. I use a lot of “human made music” and I’ve gotten pretty solid at beat gridding, but I had been looking for ways to quantize a track without getting too involved with a DAW. This is a great way to do it. Of course, you have to be musical enough to know when quantization works against the feel of the track you’re trying to even out, tempo wise.😉
Got to thank you Phil, I got your beginner lessons and have learnt how to filter tracks together already .You are a great tutor . sorry i should say blend tracks .
Hi, As I try to grid all the DISCO classics, I can tell you that if you grid the first beat of a normal song (no BPM changed) that the song will change tempo during the song that's you gonna hear it big time, but sound like the song is distorsion. No real solution so far to be honest. All the tutorial is about song with Intro Outro Breaks with perfect song beat, Never see one yet that talk about the songs from the oldies and how to grid or beat them easy. Thanks for producing all these videos btw.
Great video! Just what I was looking for. Could I request for a video on manually tapping the BPM of a song in Serato please. That would help greatly. Thanks Phil!
Disco is almost always recorded with a drummer or an older drum machine which can lead to inconsistent bpm. Another likely reason is that they change time signatures if you play jazz also. This means the BPM you have on screen is an average bpm instead. So what you need to do is to pitch your tracks while mixing. Griding may not be the best thing to do if you're mixing. Instead just use cue points to mark whatever you use your cue points for. Consider dropping on the 1 or simple echo outs for some of these transitions.
@@MrDamning 100% correct; I've found the best way to beat match live-drummers (or anything with some swing) It to either echo out and drop on the one or just simply nudge the jog wheel whichever way It needs to go. It's one of those things that slowly becomes based on feel as you do It more and more.
