I learned something new just now! This works in Serato but I'm sure there's a workaround in RB too. You have to use both loop and beat jump functions to make a perfect 3/4 loop. 1. Create a 2 beat loop 2. On the Loops tab, click "OUT" to set a new loop out point 3. Beat jump 1 beat You should see the loop extended into a 3/4 beat loop and it should be pretty accurate given that the track's beatgrid is set properly. No need to do extreme math :D I hope this made sense!

As a new Dj who knows very little about buttons but 40yr drummer this is the first thing I thought of to transition either fast or slow. You can also do 7/8 5/8 3/8 for even more extreme or stubborn tempo transitions. Just que a section loop a quarter or 8th , then hit the que button to the above counts. I twist the filter on the incoming track.
Ohhhhmygodd I swear to god I thought of this concept of dividing onto three-quarters to create more unexpected transitions into faster genres when I was baked out of my mind but I never actually took the effort of trying it out. 8:02 CDJ section: "Activate a 3/4 loop". There is no option to set 3/4 loops on CDJ's. How do you suggest to work around this? Manually setting a 3 beat loop with quantize on and then halving it twice will work but it will not sound nice. Edit: Come to think about it, you could set a 3/4 loop manually and assign it to a hot cue. Then you simply activate that hot cue when the track hits it. Or you could even set as an active loop in Rekordbox.
I grab a good loop from any house track, then use sync with the bpm grid on wide, speed it up to 175 then drop the DnB track, I like that this is faster, but I don't see myself doing this on the fly, but maybe in a set I work on for a paid gig.
In VDJ you have the option to pres IN where you want your loop to start, and OUT at the end of the loop. I have a Allen & heath Xone Dx that came with Serato itch. I remember that, in the software, i had this option to manualy creat a 3/4 loop.
While that is true, I find that manually creating a 3/4 loop is very tricky. More often than not, I get it wrong. Every program has the manual loop bit Valentin haha
@@djcarlo also, in some settings of the dj software, there is a setting that, when you press in and out to automatically set the loop point at the nearest beat. Another way, and this may be tricky, is to use hotkeys and disable the auto sync. I use this trick when i mix a song with another song that has a variable or no beat to get the sync right.

i had my technics in storage for about 12 years but went the traktor route a few years ago. great fun and what you can do now compared to in the 90s is amazing.
I am also using Serato 3.0 however I have a Repeater effect and do not have Looper. License is tied to the hardware, and so I don't have all the expansion effects. Anyhoo, with the Repeater effect you can set the beats, turn on the repeater and adjust the number of repeats. Thanks again for sharing!
What an awesome transition, and great tutorial. Subscribed. For serato, I wonder if another technique would be to just save a 3/4 loop to the track itself so you can use FX on it, and don't have to worry about making the loop perfectly each time.
Hi there, all the way from Kenya, I’ve been following you for a while now and I must say your tutorials are just…. what’s the word……. Legendary! You inspired me to get a NEWMARK MIXTRACK PRO and I am enjoying it a lot. Keep trying your tricks but not executing them as you do but it works like a charm! Thanks a lot, and keep the videos coming.
Always watch the videos till the end! Hahaha, what people comment are usually somewhere later in it. But yeah, doing it manually CAN work, but it's not always as precise, especially with 3/4. Most of mine have been complete misses haha
My head was screaming that right from the beginning... just use in and out and save the loop on the cue pad? :-D I was going insane watching this hahahahahaha
This is cool. You can do something very similar using a 3 Beat Loop on a vocal or synth ect basically avoid Drums and your good. The Math is way easier also 120 into 180 (120/2=60+120) or for example down 120 to 80(120/3=40(120-40)
@@djcarlo Yes its Times or Dividing by 1.5 or something but i prefer just doing it the way i described as i can easily do it in my Head, the whole 1.5 thing for me means using a calculator which to be honest i can't be bothered faffing with :)
I love this trick, been using it for years. I've always known it as the Einstein transition cos it uses math. Can be a bit of a hassle on Rekordbox or Serato but with VDJ or CDJs are generally much easier to 'lock it in' 😜
You're saying you can't do a 3/4 loop on controller. Just do a manual loop and save it. Why does it have to be an automatic loop. I'm on the mixstream pro, engine DJ
I used to do it manually, using the manual loop, it's not as accurate as a fixed 3/4 loop but since you're mixing the next track quickly you just apply the necessary adjustments super quick and exit the loop as soon as possible, once you practice it a bit more it's actually pretty easy
That's one way of doing it Sam! But I'd rather take the precision of the software's loops. I tried doing the manual method, and even with adjustments, it never sounded clean enough for me
I like the manual method too. The trick would be to have the second track queued in the headphones to help you hit the manual loop on beat of that next song. That way the math doesn’t need to be perfect either as long as the audio sample fits the timing.

I've been doing this to get from house to hip hop/rap for years, never thought of 3/4 time. Thanks 😊 I have residency that has me play practically everything.. Disco/house/country/rap/hip hop and its fun to blend all that together over a night. Makes it a challenge and I laugh when I mix 2 totally different artists together smoothly. Small bar/nightclubs with an audience that can come right up to the booth and hassle i mean request songs is interesting and sometimes a pain. But can be rewarding. Thanks for the tips 😀
I've been practicing with djuce so I can dj my wedding for a bit. Trying to learn what I can in a month and this video was helpful, thank you for making it.
@djcarlo so far I'm a little stuck trying to get the transition down. I'm going to download serato so I can follow your directions and see if there is improvement. Thanks for the congratulations as well, it's appreciated
@@djcarlo quick update, no go on using serato. i have the inpulse 300, i need the 500 to work on serato. big sad face cause your lessons have been super helpful lol
You could always just take the track into some editing software and create the 3/4 loop, then add it to the end of the track. Export the edited file then once loaded in your DJ software add another cuepoint so you can trigger the 3/4 loop whenever you want. Of course it is much easier if your controller has the 3/4 loop option built in but if it doesn't, it is still possible with some editing of the file
@@djcarlo Good point, I'll usually add these extra edits to classics or tracks that have stood the test of time, ones that I still like to drop every now and again. I haven't actually tried adding this 3/4 loop yet but what i did in the past was, I would add a section of the tracks acapella to the end of the main mix file, if an acapella was available or some kind of fx build up
I've done this a few times on tracks of my own. At the club, it's a little different though. Due to the large amount of song requests, and them ranging from 70-180 bpm pretty frequently, I usually let the song either stop completely and time the intro of the other song. or 1.Hot cue a song at a certain point and start it there at end of previous song. 2. Hot cue songs with impactful beginnings and press that hot cue a few times before letting it play out, good example is "Just a lil bit" by 50 cent. The transition can happen from any speed prior, as long as I tempo that beginning with my hot cue presses. I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about, but being so new, I figure this would be awesome for someone else that reads it! I'm learning constantly about DDJ800 and rekordbox, so right now is best time to spit out everything I"m coming across! :D
This is an amazing trick. It works with a loop timing of ‘1T’ (triplets) in the opposite way. Same principle for why you can mix harmonically across dominant and subdominant keys. Complimentary frequency ratios, big and small! Great video! Trying find a workaround for my DJM-S9 because it doesn’t support the “one dot” single fx. I can use 3/4 echo but it’s too fast for most transitions.
My sc6000s also can’t do 3/4, but you can change the quantize settings to quantize to the half beat. Now I can use a manual beat loop with the in/out buttons to get a 3/2 without missing. Works similar to 3/4, just different maths. Maybe other software can do this too.
One of my old math teachers showed me this little trick to wrap your head around finding what a percentage of any number is: replace the X multiplication symbol with the word “of”, and make it a sentence. For example 3/4 OF 200 is 150. So on a calculator that translates to 0.75 X 200 = 150!

Use the Beatmasher 2 effect: Wet=100%, Gate=100/Off, Rot=0, Len=3/16
As a bonus, you can play around with those once you've got it looping - ruclips.net/video/zxZEsRSXM9U/видео.html
And you can also transition from faster to slower tracks using Len = 3/8 and 3/4. It's all maths!
@@carptackula7536 🙏 thank you so much
Carlo, you videos inspired me to get back in DJing after a 10 year break.
Thank you! My Ddj sr2 just arrived today an I'm picking it just like it never left 😁
Thats awesome Matt! Welcome back to the DJ world!
i had my technics in storage for about 12 years but went the traktor route a few years ago. great fun and what you can do now compared to in the 90s is amazing.
Ohhhh, that's another method right there!
3/4 is my favourite type of loop/echo timer in general, I use it all the time..I love the swing it gives. This transition makes it so much cooler tho
Dang! I'm glad you were able to make something out of it! I've barely used the 3/4th effect on anything
Use it on the snare of a song and it sounds pretty dope
Such a sick transition when the loop tightens kudos Carlo and @itsalongstoryshort
Massive kudos to longstoryshort! Wouldn't have known about this otherwise!
What an awesome transition, and great tutorial. Subscribed.
For serato, I wonder if another technique would be to just save a 3/4 loop to the track itself so you can use FX on it, and don't have to worry about making the loop perfectly each time.
I'll have to double check on that! There *should* be a way!
DAMN THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Imagine how many minds will be blown once you use it in a set! XD
nailed it!!! thanks for the kind words
You are a GENIUS man! Never forget that! You should've seen my face when I first saw your video
Keep inspiring! Looking forward to seeing more amazing tricks from you!
Omg that technique is insanely cool! Thanks for showing us how its done!
For sure Dylan! That's what I thought when I first saw it too!
This is big one! It's all we are going to hear this summer now!
I can't wait to see what this brings actually!
That is a such a good transition! I need to practicing 😎
Give it a shot Adam! You'll love doing it!
Hi there, all the way from Kenya,
I’ve been following you for a while now and I must say your tutorials are just…. what’s the word……. Legendary!
You inspired me to get a NEWMARK MIXTRACK PRO and I am enjoying it a lot. Keep trying your tricks but not executing them as you do but it works like a charm!
Thanks a lot, and keep the videos coming.
The Mixtrack Pro is one of those amazing controllers that really gets the job done! Which model did you get?
i've been doing this manually with timing my loops
edit: I see you've mentioned that later on haha, awesome tutorial and im loving the new format!
Nice tips! Thanks! 👍👍👍
For sure Marcos! Hope you get to use this technique in your sets!
@@djcarlo I will train a lot. 🤟
"How happy are you?"
3:55 😂
More than anyone can imagine hahahaha
@@djcarlo Hahaha love that one ❤️🤣
Thanks for doing this trick breakdown! Been wanting to replicate this trick since I saw this video!
I jumped onto Rekordbox the moment I saw it! I really wanted to figure out how this was done!
This is cool. You can do something very similar using a 3 Beat Loop on a vocal or synth ect basically avoid Drums and your good. The Math is way easier also 120 into 180 (120/2=60+120) or for example down 120 to 80(120/3=40(120-40)
That's another way of doing it too! Good tip! (There's a math property here; I just don't recall which one)
@@djcarlo Yes its Times or Dividing by 1.5 or something but i prefer just doing it the way i described as i can easily do it in my Head, the whole 1.5 thing for me means using a calculator which to be honest i can't be bothered faffing with :)
Very impressed by how much the video quality has improved!
Had to bring in the new year with new ideas for the videos!
I love this trick, been using it for years.
I've always known it as the Einstein transition cos it uses math.
Can be a bit of a hassle on Rekordbox or Serato but with VDJ or CDJs are generally much easier to 'lock it in' 😜
CDJs definitely! Everything is much simpler hahaha
dude you are awesome! I'm brand new to DJing and your videos are so helpful. and hilarious!
I'm glad you think so! The humor is something I started trying out recently, and im glad it resonates!
The Kingdom Hearts boss music, man of culture
You know it! I was raised on that series! Mostly FF, but still, KH doesn't fall far from the tree hahaha
Yeah haha! Sick man love FF too but indeed they are in the same boat kind of haha
THIS VEDIO REALLY HELPS CARO THANK YOU AND KEEP IT UP
You're welcome! Hope you get to use it in your sets!
This is also why beatport has wrong bpms shown in the 3rds. Their beat algorithms can't follow a beat correctly 4\4 style
Yup! It tends to make 130bpm 98, etc. I've noticed!
Noticed that. Super annoying
bro your videos have come an insanely long way keep it up man!
That's progression for you bud! Thank you!
You're saying you can't do a 3/4 loop on controller.
Just do a manual loop and save it.
Why does it have to be an automatic loop.
I'm on the mixstream pro, engine DJ
Because it's not as clean from what I've experienced. Trying to count 3/4 of a beat isn't easy
@@djcarlo cheers carlo, but doable?
Serious , you are a genius! Thanks for letting us learn all this ! ❤
For sure! When I first saw it, I was obsessed in finding out how it was done!
more like dj long beanie long
Haha, that's his signature look!
In Rekordbox, You can manually make LOOP 3 beats long, then press 1/2X to shorten it to ¾ of beat. Than it is possible to save it as Loop Hot Cue .
Let me see if that works! From what I know though, 1/2 of a 3 beat loop is 1.5 beats, which is still twice of what you need to get the 3/4.
@@djcarlo You are correct. 1.5beats is twice 3/4 - so the effect would be different, but transition still possibble.
he seems force to overact
That's RUclips for you!
Gittigim diskotekler yada barlarda dinledigim inanilmaz mixlerin o inanilmaz sirlarini paylastigin icin tesekkurler kardesim!, inan bana sen en iyisisin😉.

Always strive to become better buddy! Never stop learning!
Loved this video!
Thanks for the amazing tip and your sense of humor!
Glad you appreciate the humor! I wanna add more of that into the videos in the future!
Hahahaha, I know the pain I mean joy of requests Dave! But I'm glad you liked this breakdown. New technique unlocked for your bar sets, yeah? 😆
Great!! Thank you so much Carlito! 😍
You're welcome! Hope you get to try these tricks out!
I love seeing your humour in your new style, honestly so much more enjoyable to watch!!
That's how I wanted to move into the new year Spaladon! With a big ol' smile on my face and in my videos!
I've been practicing with djuce so I can dj my wedding for a bit. Trying to learn what I can in a month and this video was helpful, thank you for making it.
You're very welcome bud! Let me know how things go with DJuced, and congratulations on the big day too!
Whauw, that's awesome. I'm definitely gonna try this. Thanks!
Go for it Karel! Let me know how it goes, and enjoy making these crazy transitions!
This channel is amazing ty for reaching everyone with these tricks.
I try to spread around the good word of DJing!
Oh yeah man, you got it man, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
For sure! I was really excited to showcase what I found!
Simply amazing. You really rock dude!
Thanks man! I got really excited trying to break down this trick
I remember watching similar transition trick tutorial on Yamato's channel.
Thanks Sir for the update, yours gives more options to it.❤
I wanted to explore more options for the transitions! I was sure there was even more to it!
🤝 thanks for the reply
let’s gooooo!!!! love this transaction and can’t wait to use it
That's awesome dude! This trick is so fun to do!
Thanks for the tip DJ Carlo. I will practice this technique . DJ DMIX
Go for it Darold!
Thanks Carlo. This is genius. Very useful. Love the new editing style BTW. Love from south africa
Thanks man! Worked hard on making this video funny, fast and educative! Glad you noticed the hard work!
Love just listening to this and skiing!
Nice! That's a great way to add some energy into your skiing soundtrack!
You could always just take the track into some editing software and create the 3/4 loop, then add it to the end of the track. Export the edited file then once loaded in your DJ software add another cuepoint so you can trigger the 3/4 loop whenever you want.
Of course it is much easier if your controller has the 3/4 loop option built in but if it doesn't,
it is still possible with some editing of the file
That's true! But it takes away from wanting to do it with different random tracks on a whim during a set haha
@@djcarlo Good point, I'll usually add these extra edits to classics or tracks that have stood the test of time, ones that I still like to drop every now and again.
I haven't actually tried adding this 3/4 loop yet but what i did in the past was, I would add a section of the tracks acapella to the end of the main mix file, if an acapella was available or some kind of fx build up
I finally tried this one out, THANK YOU CARLO!!!!!!!
Awesome! How'd it go?
I've done this a few times on tracks of my own. At the club, it's a little different though.
Due to the large amount of song requests, and them ranging from 70-180 bpm pretty frequently, I usually let the song either stop completely and time the intro of the other song.
or
1.Hot cue a song at a certain point and start it there at end of previous song.
That's another set of ways of doing it too Johnny! Those are some of the more versatile ways to make transitions!
Ufffff 🔥🔥🔥🔥 con esto se me amplio mucho mi manera de mezclar gracias
Make good use of it Franco! Happy you like this breakdown!
The 3/4 is exactly what you need! The 1T is actually the workaround for those without the 3/4 loop option
Someone got themselves a new editor :D Really nice video man. Love the new direction!
Hehehe! Glad you like the new direction of the videos!
My sc6000s also can’t do 3/4, but you can change the quantize settings to quantize to the half beat. Now I can use a manual beat loop with the in/out buttons to get a 3/2 without missing. Works similar to 3/4, just different maths. Maybe other software can do this too.
Clever! I think thats one of the properties of arithmetics, but I'm too far beyond school to remember what it's called haha. Great tip!
Bro insane 😮 thank you very much for your time , and hard work, you are out of this world 🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥
It's all about sharing your experiences and lessons with the world Alex! Glad you like the tutorials!
Love your videos bro always so informative. Never tried this but looking forward too!
Give it a shot Craig, and see what magic you make out of it!
your videos are getting better and better dammm...
Thanks Jan! Trying out new things for the year, and this is how we're kicking it off!
I just know this!!! Insane 😮!
It's crazy, isn't it JayJax?
One of my old math teachers showed me this little trick to wrap your head around finding what a percentage of any number is: replace the X multiplication symbol with the word “of”, and make it a sentence. For example 3/4 OF 200 is 150. So on a calculator that translates to 0.75 X 200 = 150!
That's one way to get it Mode7! And honestly, an effective way!
Thank you Carlos!!!!🔥🎛🔥💥
For sure Milton! Hope you get to make use of this technique!
You’re a legend Carlo. Very entertaining and well presented content.
Thanks Pete! Really appreciate that! Tried to make this video as edu-taining as possible!
Great trick, dude. You're really the best on dj tutorials.
Thanks Alvaro! Hope you get to try this in your mixes too!
Keep up the good work, very nice.
Thanks Kevyn! More to come this year for sure!
1:16 i thought u were gonna play shake it off for a sec lol the horn sounds so similar
That could’ve worked! But the video probably would’ve been copyrighted to oblivion
@ oh yeah copyright is a pain in the butt lol
