I have this lens. It is based on the now classic mid 20th century Sonnar design, which is only sharp from centre to edge at f8, with the edges progressively softening up to f2. Beyond f2 it becomes another lens entirely, and takes a fair amount of wrangling to get a good result. 7artisans have most definitely not cut corners on the optical quality. A most versatile optic.
Great review. Thanks for keeping it real. For the price, I wouldn't mind the qwerks. I'll definitely buy this in the future
Still a cool lens despite the softness . Wouldn't bother me ! I bought a $50 vintage lens (Minolta 58 1.4) and adapted it . It appears to have the same characteristics in regards to build and IQ. Nice sample images
Hey Reggie great review. I have the lens and man I love it. The look of the images it produces despite its imperfections is what I enjoy most. Black and whites with the Acros film simulation is a great combo. I have had multiple people comment on the “look” of the images I’ve created with it. It’s just fun to use, easy to focus light on the camera making a light and simple kit for street photography. The imperfections are just perfect for the look I want to create. Keep up the good work you’re doing. I truly enjoy your content.
Yes with acros it’s 💣
Just bought a Xpro1, yes it is 2020...close to 2021 actually 🥳, crazy huh. And I wonder what lens to go for with a fuji mount. There is a Fujinon xf 18/f2 (you reviewed Reggie) locally for 150.- and the newer xf 35/f2 for 250.- but the guy doesn‘t come back. I d like to get into manually focussing, even though it is apperantly terribly hard with the Xpro1. I am sure I can make it work. It is my experiment camera, a d I wanted one for quite some time. the other one to take family pics and bring along everywhere is my x100t.
Can‘t wait to go out with the xpro1.
Which non fuji have you tried and could reccomend. Another idea would be vintage glass with adapter. I have some Nikkors at home. But I like to keep the lenses as compact as possible.
Cheers from Switzerland
Thanks for sharing!
I have this lens, and I agree, the lens has character galore, and flares up at the drop of a hat; but if the conditions are right it makes stellar images.
I love the flare!
This lens is not that good. Weird flares, soft corners, Focus breathing, very bad chromatic aberration.
But at the end nothing really matters. I use it over my $700 kit lens most of the time. I just love the retro feel. Perfection is just a gimmick, enjoying the equipment matters more
Only thing I don't like is the aperture ring is too smooth.
I am a Fuji Shooter since just about a couple of months. The only think I do not like that much is the lack of manual lenses. This helps.
This is a superb lens, love mine, possibly my favourite lens of all time
🎉
but NOw they are coming out with a MK II version.... will it be much better ?
I adapted my Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 to my X-T1, and man the bokeh is glorious like no other. These are art lenses, not meant for pixel peeping or for people who look at the image based on the sharpness.
Hi, I bought the 7artisans 35mm camera when i saw your video so i can use it for my fuji xt1 but it’s not taking any pictures and only says “F0”. Im stuck.. maybe u can help? And some advice?
Set a nice Acros recipe and get creative! I already own the 56 1.2, 23 1.4 etc etc, but this lens is awesome.
My favorite lens when I shoot in the street got it paired with an xt2 and fits in my jacket pocket its so stealthy.
Nice combo! What’s your favorite manual focus aid?
In street what fstop do you guys normally use?
@@bensoytv4805 anything between 2.8 and up depends what's in front of me
Mine is pretty sharp, even wide open! At least in the center it is... i also have the 28mm meike 2.8 and that one is razor sharp at 2.8!
I think I’ve mentioned this before but have you tried the Meike lenses yet?
Nope. Not yet
Sir do i need an adapter for my Fujifilm xa3???
I have the Meike 35mm f/1.4 for X-mount, which is not bad, and it's going for $99. The clickless aperture ring is a downside. It's easy enough to focus, and the image quality is decent. It's living on an X-E3 I picked up for use as a backup camera around Thanksgiving last year.
Oh nice!
How to turn off constant notifications from body Lumix GX80 about setting proper focal length (35mm)? Always from sleep or turn on asking me. Thank you for help
I have no clue.
Great Review, Reggie. I was expecting IQ to be a little better and more consistent.
I was expecting that too. But considering the price it was kind of wishful thinking :(
Try the Samyang 35mm f/1.2 for Fuji. Another manual focus lens. Zero distortion. Sharp wide open. Great images!
Nice suggestion!
True, it performs better but at 3 times the price of the Meike lens (B&H lists the Rokinon branded one at $429). It's no longer a 'cheap' lens, but still manual focus. I'd scrounge up $170 and buy the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4, unless I really, really have to have f/1.2 for a specific purpose.
@@ge48421 I guess that depends on what one wants from a lens and how comfortable one is using manual focus in their line of work.
Great review. I love how there are just zero fucks given when it comes to image quality 😆
Gotta keep it real
I have problems whit my xt3
When i'm in photo mode the image on the viewfinder and the screen start freezing is that normal?
Nope it’s not normal
How to remove the ray wile using in lighing condition.pls say any one
A deep lenshood
Holy shit this guy looks like Ogie Alcasid 😂
so this is 35mm on a full frame sensor but on fuji with APS-C sensor is about 52mm right
Yup I believe so
Just gotta say man... I love your style. Your Instagram not only amazed me with the content but how simple yet powerful and extremely helpful it is. Just picked up a Fujifilm X-T4 and your making my life easier day by day. Heres a sub. Already probably my favorite Instagram/RUclipsr out. Extremely glad I've found you. I will be buying your course too. Gotta support you 100% please don't change! When you reach 1 Mil subs. Only regret is why I never found your IG or RUclips long ago.. smh.
Thanks for the kind words my friend!
This or the xc35mm f2? I already got that but if this is much better indoors and gives me like iso 1600 or less, I could sell the fuji🤔
It doesn’t have af tho
@@Reggiebphoto I dont mind, in low light fuji AF is not that reliable anyway, so...😁
Ok then whatever you’d like haha
Nice
Thanks!
Hey Reggie, good video 👍🏻
Maybe someone can help me out:
I have this lens on my XPro1, I‘d like to use the OVF with it (zone focus obv) but a) I can‘t get accurate framelines. I have added the lens as 35mm in the menu. But doesn‘t help. Framing completely off. And b) the framelines are weak, they don‘t brighten up when shooting in daylight, strange. Doesn‘t happen with the native lenses. Framelines brighten up in daylight. Easy to read.
I really like to get the OVF working with this lens. Not focussing of course, but at least accurate framing....anyone?
Cheers from Switzerland
Sorry I’m not exactly sure what solution you’re in search of?
@@Reggiebphoto thx for coming back. Was wondering if anyone came across same problems, framing off and weak when using this or a non-native lense.
Each xpro has native frame lines. If the 18 isn’t supported it’s kinda just something you have to work with
That seems much worse than an adapted lens from the 70s as those were made for "full frame" and give a rather sharp image on APS-C. For portraits I often use a Pentax 50/f1.7 - and those old lenses are much cheaper than the 7artisans. There are more than enough older lenses availabe so IMHO it doesn't make sense to buy a new one to get that vintage look (also think environmental conservation ...).
Thanks for the comment!
Nice STI! Do you drive one?
I have a forester 😅
Reggie Ballesteros what??? I just traded mine in for a wrx! 😂😂😂
Dad life. I try to be a little funner by having an ST but it’s not the same lol
Can one use this lenses for XT3?
Yes you can
@@Reggiebphoto I think they've made Mark II version of this lens
I believe this might be the mk ii?
@@Reggiebphoto Nope, m II has clickable aperture ring, f22 and different design of the body. Here is the m II version ruclips.net/video/qbyzANntmt8/видео.html
Cool!
Is this lens good for wedding?
I haven’t tried it for weddings
The cheapest one is Peargear which pretty much beat 7noartisans in IQ and price. What is good with this lens ,well nothing everything is average at the best.
Thanks for the clarification
eagleeye photo The design is great tho
chidorirasenganz Which of the Pergear? THe 32mm 1.6?
Fernando Nieto Landeros Nah I was saying I like the rangefinder styling of the 7 artisans 35mm
Definitely a lens with character. Perfectly imperfect! I love mine it was really worth it.
So this lens is sooo shit that it’s fun!
Basically. Lol
