    I had the XF 35 f2, and it was a fantastic little lens, great form factor, good AF and super sharp. I kind of miss it, mostly for the size as a walk around/street lens. What I don't miss is the f2, which I found a little limiting at this particular FL, especially being used to a 50 1.4 on a FF. I don't mind the f2 on the 18, as that FL for me isn't about blurry backgrounds, and the f2 on the much longer 90mm still allows for very shallow DOF, but for how I use a 'normal' FL prime, I like to have the capability to blur a background more. The Fuji 35 developed AF issues at a time when I had little money, so in a pinch I opted for the Viltrox 33 1.4, which I got in like new condition on Ebay for $200. It's a very good little lens, sharp even at 1.4 and blazingly sharp at 2.8, at a quarter the price of the Fuji 33, it's a steal. That being said, when I have the money I probably will upgrade to the Fuji version, as this is my most used FL and so I'd like the best option in this case. But for those who aren't making big bucks with their work, or just shoot for fun, the Viltrox is hard to beat.

    • @Iamtongue
      @Iamtongue  Год назад +1

      Damn another good review for the viltrox 33mm! I havent tried it yet but i hear other reviews saying how it has nasty chromatic aberration. What's your take on it?

    • @JungleCatImages
      @JungleCatImages Год назад +3

      @@Iamtongue I think it depends on what you're shooting and how you shoot it. I usually see people demonstrating chromatic aberrations by shooting a leaf hanging off a branch in direct sun at 1.4, so I try not to shoot leaves hanging off a branch in direct sun at 1.4. No offense to people who need that capability, it's just not something I do. I mostly shoot people: sessions, events, street and it hasn't been a problem for me. I literally just got back from a session with a dark skinned girl wearing a white suit, we took 100+ shots inside a retro style cafeteria and outside on a park bench. I shot everything wide open and I don't see any glaring issues. Someone making good money on weddings etc, or for whom money is not an object, is not worried about spending a couple of hundred bucks extra to get the best. I myself hope to get the new Fuji one of these days, but for $200 bucks the Viltrox is a heck of a lens.

    The 35mm f/1.4 R is possibly my favorite lens ever made for any system. Bokeh isn’t my favorite but there is something that draws me to the look imparted by this lens. Mine is scratched, dented, has a glimmerglass 1 basically fused to it, etc. but it still works perfectly even after beating it up for nearly 10 years. My second favorite is the zeiss touit 1.8, the zeiss planar design is so classic, I’m really not sure why it gets so much hate 🤷‍♂️. You should rent it and give it a try, the bokeh is INCREDIBLE. Finally, I understand why you like the 33mm and if I was a portrait shooter it would definitely be my go to for the linear motors and consistency in close fast movement action iq alone.

The 32 1.8 is $720 (big yikes) but has that classic Zeiss Planer design that brings the M mount planar look to apsc cameras. Autofocus isn’t the best but it’s good enough, where it shines though is in challenging lighting (those Zeiss coatings are delicious), image feel and Bokeh. When I say the best bokeh of any x mount lens, it’s not even close. So creamy, with some of the best soap bubble I’ve ever seen, you will be pixel peaking drooling over the bokeh🤤 😂

    Viltrox 33mm f/1.4 is a fast focusing good looking “character” lens. I wonder how it would compare to the original Fuji 35mm-similar characteristics without the crappy AF. Otherwise, thanks for the reviews-I too would pass on all of them for the Fuji luxes-they’re just killer lenses even if overpriced by a couple hundred bucks (if they were more like $600-700 I might have bought two). Also is the xh2s REALLY worth it AF-wise over all other fujis?

    • @Iamtongue
      @Iamtongue  Год назад +1

      I'm curious about the viltrox. I hear conflicting arguments about the viltrox 33mm. Some ppl like it and some ppl say the image is unusable because it has bad chromatic aberration.

    • @matt88169
      @matt88169 Год назад

      @@Iamtongue Depends on what, and how you're shooting I guess. I have the 23mm and the 56mm lenses. I've gotten lots of photos I love out of both of them. The 33mm is worth a try. The 23 and 56mm Fuji lux lenses are optically superior, sure, but the Viltrox can have a pretty cool look too - sort of a "vintage" thing with vignetting, 3d pop, nice falloff, blazing autofocus. A little soft wide open, but razor sharp around f/2 or so - easily as sharp as the best Fuji lenses in the center. Purple fringing is a bigger issue than CA - luckily it is easy to correct in post but too bad it can't be done in-camera. Overall images can be super sharp and the bokeh/falloff is nice. The CA/fringing of the 23mm is probably the worst of the bunch but has not ruined a photo for me personally (CA/fringing can look way worse pre-edit than post), the 56mm is more controlled in that respect.
      I don't know what people mean by "unusable". Unusable for what? For indoor / people / event type shooting I've gotten some amazing shots. In bright outdoor light I've gotten some great portraits. I suppose if I was doing paid work and the image had to be flawless, I'd avoid shooting wide open and stay at f/2 - f/5.6. But for the $260 I paid these lenses are a smashing deal and I won't have to cry my eyes out if they get run over or break.
      I'm selling the 23mm, because the fuji lux is just better in every way, and focuses closer. As a "general purpose" focal length its great to have a "perfect" 23mm that I can shoot wide open all day no problem. But the 56mm likely stays because I think the AF is faster than than the 56mm WR, and certainly quieter. I think the Viltrox also spanks the Fuji 50mm f/2 @ f/2, unless one takes pictures of brick walls or 1-dimensional landscapes.
      The Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 and 75mm f/1.2 lenses are superior in terms of optical correction. If Viltrox develops equal quality versions of the 23, 33, and 56mm lenses, even for around $500, they'd be incredible values and you could get two of them for the price of one Fuji Lux. That would be sweet.

If I did not have the 35mm F/1.4, I would not buy it again now though, the 33mm F/1.4 would be the lens I get.
    I'm kind of waiting for Sigma to give me an option at 23mm, to stop my buying the Fuji 23mm F/1.4 WR (after i fell in love with the Sigma 56mm F/1.4), although the 10-24 is so versatile (I actually used it in a studio shoot with a dancer last week) and i have many zooms cover 23mm, I do not desperately need it. @Iamtongue "as good" is subjective :) I am sure if you took photos of a test chart, or pixel peep, I am sure the fuji 56mm 1.2 wr is better... but is it a lot, or matters to portraits (I don't know about you but corner sharpness, or sharpness in general for portraits doesn't matter much to me) I don't think so. Can I tell on a 16" x 12 " print, no. More importantly, no client has asked about the lens used or criticised the photos they get.
      But is it as good as the Fuji, if I look at price/Performance... the sigma cost £375... the Fuji costs £999 and has F/1.2... I am happy with the choice I made to keep the sigma.

I had the original Fuji 56, but the AF was not up to par and found myself taking A LOT more shots than usual, hoping that one would be in focus. From the reviews I've seen, although optically even better, the new 56 hasn't addressed the AF issues. I know that both Fujis have their fans, and more power to them, but I can't see dropping a grand on a lens without top notch AF. As always, your mileage may vary
