Also like the practical nature and openness of what imperfections in a lens can bring to creative photography. Your video helps broaden perspective from pixel peeping to creativity. Thank you so much for making this comparison video. We're so lucky nowadays to have all these affordable third party lenses available to us, and that's just in the 35mm range. Several years ago, when shopping for my first camera, I passed on Fuji because their lenses were just too expensive when compared to other formats. I can see now that's changed with a variety of interesting options out there.

    Welcome back Andrew! Love your fuji content. Had both the Mitakon and 7artisans f/0.95, they are pretty good lenses, especially with the 7artisans. Image quality they are really close to each other with the Mitakon being a bit sharper. However, I replaced both of them with the Fuji 35mm f/2. I find the fuji to be the perfect balance of weight and image quality for stills. Yes only for stills, it focus breath like nobody, a big no no to video.

    Interesting. My version of the 7artisans 35mm1.2 mark2 is the best manual lens I've owned incl 4 Leicas. Depending on how you use it it has amazing character and is great for portraits and streetphotography. Not a landscape lens but still does the job. The prints coming from this lens has a real analogue vibe. I actually use it more than my XF35mm1.4 and would never swap it for the xf35mmf2. I've shot thousands of images with it and learned how it works the best. I never shoot charts or brickwalls though.

    I just bought the 1.4 you picked as favourite, it's good to see I made the right choice especially considering the price.I bought it as a stepping stone for the upcoming voigtlander, I just wanna make sure I like manual focusing and that the focal length suits me, I'm pretty sure it will but I'm on 27mm for now and I'm not loving it so far. Anyway, thanks heaps for this super detailed video, it was very helpful!

    • @ryanclouse299
      @ryanclouse299 Год назад

      I heard the f1.2 voigtlanders weren't actually that much sharper or better than the TTartisans, but maybe worth it for the build quality and metal contacts. But for price I'd probably prefer just getting the xf 35mm f1.4 (or used) and using that to MF + can AF when you need or want it.

  • @martinvarga130
    @martinvarga130 3 месяца назад

    I've bought it yesterday (Ttartisan 35mm 1.4) for recording podcasts with two people in frame and maaan .. this is a great lens for the price. I've used a sigma 16mm 1.4 but the autofocus always screwed the recordings so I set it to fix focus - but the lens was so close that the focus area became the issue as it was a couple of cm on f1.4. So I had to go down with aperture which made the DOF less visible, however I like DOF in my scenes. The Ttartisan 35mm 1.4 is the perfect choice for me because now I have a longer focus area (about 30cm in f2) and I can get even better DOF because of the focal length. Now both of us are in focus almost all the time and the lens distortion has disappeared as well. Now we look good on camera :D. Perfect lens for these kind of cases. And it was 90$ (in Hungary) .. ridiculously cheap.

    I have both the 7artisans 1.2 and the 35mm f2 from Fuji. I think for me is just worth pick up the f2 as the 7artisans has a horrible pincushion distorsion and pictures look weird. Although manual cheap lenses are super fun!

    Nice comparisons. I have owned and used the Meike, TTArtisan, and both 7Artisans (also the Fujichron f2; even the Viltrox 33mm). The only one I still own is the 1.2 Mark II. I needed a versatile workhorse at the 50mm focal length, and am way more comfortable with manual. I researched, found the Mark II, got it, took 2 shots, and, for the first time, audibly said, “Wow.” Everything about the shooting experience with my X-Pro3 was exactly what I needed & wanted. Funny that your summation of the lens-that some would find negative because they want “character” and amazing “sharpness in the corners”, etc.-is something I can appreciate. I am a doc guy, and the Mark II isn’t trying to be sexy or a one-trick pony. Just puts in the work, is reliable indoors and out, and, at least mine, feels built to last a while.

      I'm looking into getting one of these and I'm also leaning towards the 7Artisans 35mm F1.2 here. It's really small in size yet having one of the widest aperture and acceptable image quality amidst these budget lenses.
      I know the TTartisan F1.4 is more popular since the price per value is outstanding, but I don't mind shelling a bit more for something even more compact and a tad better low light performance.

    Hope you guys or doing well..(and don't worry about the world going crazy, all over the world is the same)...so my standard go to manual lenses or the 20mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.4 from Canon FD breech-lock SSC..the organic looks and bokeh even on the 20mm is unbeatable......to me :-) the proces of me trying and buying is over when it comes to lenses..most of them will be sharp but the flow to bokeh (dof) scars me...taking in account low light lenses Vs fast lanses....Most of them would be low light lenses and not fast lenses..
    example the 20mm 2.8 FD SSC is a fast lens where the 50mm 1.4 is a low light lens...so why is the 50mm a low light......Because it has a DOF of f/4 not f/1.4 so from f/4 to f/1.4 is light, not dof...
    so the main reason and to check if a lens is a cheep or expansive lens, is by looking at the dept of scale of the lens...it's like looking at the DNA of the lens...
    Quote: If you sharpen different drawing pencils with the same sharpener, you get the same sharpness... (for the artist among us)

Used to own the Mitakon 35mm 0,95, Fujinon 35mm 1.4, 7Artisans 0,95 and to me, the price to performance ratio with the TTArtisan is just crazy. I don't even care about the lens cap being the screw-on type, because I am rarely going to use it. The front element is placed deep enough in the body of the lens so not really an issue and if I even damage it... then heck, I can get another lens.. :D Also, one tip - you can get the lens hood for the Fujinon 27mm WR and use it on the TTArtisan - it fits perfectly, looks the part, helps out with the flaring and protects the front element a bit. Cheerios!

I collect & shoot with vintage lenses regularly ( mostly m42 Takumars, the best built, smoothest focusing lenses on the planet), a joy to use you have to experience to appreciate. These, in comparison, feel like cheap toys..... puts a serious damper on the shooting experience. I would suggest picking up a cheap Pentax Super Takumar 55mm f1.8 before going this route just to give it a shot. Would cost about $50, which you could resell it for if it turns out not to be your cup of tea.
