In this video I check out the 7artisans 35mm F1.2 Large Aperture Prime APS-C Aluminum Lens for Sony E Mount Mirrorless Cameras . Stay tuned for the comparison to the Meike/Neewer 35mm F1.7!
I’ve owned this lens for the Fuji system for a week now and I love it. It’s full of imperfections, but full of character at the same time. The build, weight and IQ is what I love about it. Plus, the manual rings are intriguing. Much prefer it over the Kamlan which I owned for a short while. This is my favourite budget lens for Fuji so far
im with you. it's odd and awesome at the same time. love it so far.
I just bought it, and you are pretty spot on. The bokeh is pretty solid and I find I get pretty solid custom shots when shooting in Aperture priority mode. I wouldn't suggest it for a super amateur because shots can look in focus on the back screen, but be a little off when you view them on the computer. I do recommend for someone looking for an inexpensive 35mm that allows you to manually customize the look of your shot. I also recommend for shooters looking to "evolve" past shooting in automatic and actually learn how lens adjustments effect shot results. I'll still get another 35 or 28mm for paid shoots but this one is great for creating artistic shots with a little patience needed for manual adjustments.
I recently purchased the 7artisans 1.8/25mm, after watching your review, and couple others, but yours repeatedly, and I just absolutely love it. It's so much fun and the quality is fantastic, this is my opinion. And I have the Meike 1.7/35mm on my wish list, main reason is that's the focal length I'm missing. So I cannot wait for your comparison between the Meike and the 7artisans. Only thing that was disappointing with the 7artisans, is I didn't receive a lens pouch! Thanks for your videos!
I love the 25 1.7 too! Thanks TM!
I'm still waiting for a comparison to make the decision
Hi, can this lens attached with the sony qx1 apsc e mount?? Im a beginner pls help me
Yes, this is an e mount lens. So no adapter is needed.
Erik Fogg thanks for that fast respond!
I own the 7 artisans 25 1.8 - I like it, but there are a few glaring flaws (notwithstanding the optical flaws). First, I have found that the distance scale is off - it does not accurately represent focal distance. Second, the lens does not stop down to f16 in terms light gathering abilities - it turns out, the lens stopped completely down is more like between f8 and f11. These flaws limit ability to do scale focusing with this lens, as well as limit what you can do in terms of landscapes and daytime shooting (if the lens only stops down to f8).
It would be great if you could test some of these things with the 35 1.2. Thanks for the great videos!
We're all here for the samples photos! 😏
Can you show the quality differents between the sony 35m and this lens? And also the differents in sharpness between this lens at 1.2 and the sony at 1.8.
Great video by the way, i'm glad there is someone who's testing all these things for me before I waste my money.
Just bought this on eBay for $100. My gf’s first manual prime. She’s only had AF telephoto lenses and wanted to take more portraiture photos. Your review made me realize she’ll get good results without spending $400 on a Sony or Sigma and much more convenient to carry around.
Love your reviews, love the side by side comparisons. Lovely family. Austin is the coolest city in Texas.
Looks like an Industar
Thanks for the review. I only love to see the settings (especially aperture values) on screen coupled with the relevant photos especially when reviewing zoom lenses.
Salwan J. Binni Majority of the shots were done at f1.2 to f1.4.
“Dropping those hit records” I died lol
same!
Lollĺ
haha
same hahahhahahahaha
Me too
Great review! Would you rather get the 7Artisan or the Meike 35mm 1.7? Appreciate your thoughts!
My exact thoughts, I wonder which is better
Cant wait for the comparison of those lens u mentioned!!! Great video!
Looks like those old rangefinder lenses. Beautiful!
Looks like the Voigtlander 35mm/f1.8 one of my favourite M mount lenses.
i just got a fujifilm from years ago (X-E1) and a 7artisans 25mm. I'm in love with this set
I started with the sony 35mm 1.8, it was my favorite lens for a long time. Then, I got the sony 85 1.8. I almost always use that on my apsc or full frame. You should try it out, I know you'll like it.
3:44 that (shallow) depth of field is crazy
I love that it's small. This+A6000 should fit in my jacket pocket just fine.
you say bouquet, I say boca. tomato, tomatoe. thanks for doing this review. I appreciate you being critical and putting it to the test.
Can you suggest me lens for A r7 iii for portrait shots. I hope you will reply ☺
I’ve grown to be a big fan of your videos. I’m just a starter in photography. I picked up an A6300 (at a steal), the sigma 16mm f1.4 because of your reviews..but was wondering if you had any recommendations on other lenses that I should also keep in my arsenal. My main subject matter are usually people within close distances and some at night. But I do plan on going on to landscapes as well. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
I would recommend that you get a sony 50mm f1.8 full frame lens. It will give you the full frame equivalent 75mm which is good for subject isolation like portrait photography and it's fast enough for shooting in low light situations. It's also very cheap. Alternatively, you can get Leica to Sony-E 'Close Focus' adapter from Voigtlander or some other lower cost vendor on Ebay and buy really nice and affordable Voigtlander lenses or old leica lenses tp do manual photography as well as for macro shots like food. If you wanted to spend a bit more you can get the Techart Pro Leica-M to Sony E autofocus adapter which will turn any leica-m manual lens to an auto focus lens. It is compatible with the Sony a6300 or a6500 (not a6000 or a5100)
I really love the way you deliver reviews!
Absolutely love the outtakes at the end.
Brother, I have a question, how do you create that Halo effect around Sun as on 4:12 . When I try to do, I get light trails, but this is so perfect here. Please tell me how? Thank you.
Because the lens❤️
Love the 7artisans 25mms. This looks tempting. Have you ever tried any of the Lensbaby lenses?
Hi Do you have a plan to review 7artisans 7.5mm f2.8 fish-eye lens? I'm considering to buy it but I'm not able to find a decent review of this lens.
The lens bokeh was so nice❤️
Is this a good lens for fully body portraits? Would the bookeh work at that distance? I go to cosplay conventions.
Thank you! I think i'll stay with my 25mm f1.8!
great little lens in the style of the classics zeiss sonars rangefinder lenses from yesteryear with better coatings, very decent build quality and better-then-i-would-have expected optical performance plus - best of all - lots of character. i have no issues with the throw of the focus ring; overall it handles nicely. Best of all it it is a sonar and renders as such. It is actually sharper than my jupiter 3 or jupiter 8 sonars (which are both zeiss designs).
Great review , sorry if this has already been asked but will this work on a micro 4/3rds like the Nikon V1? Cheers
Great video as always!
Sharpness wise, you prefer this or Neewer 35mm? can you do a comparison?
EnnVision Hi, this lens has EF mount terms ? Congrats for thouse footage i loved it haha
Hi Thanks for the review. Arthur if I use this on sony a 7 mark 2 the 35mm will be 52mm as 1.5 crop factor applied however what about f stop will it be f1.2 or will be f1.6 or something else please reply
What is/are the advantages of using FE 35mm 1.8 or disadvantaged on a6000?
I think this lens is applause worthy, simply because it has a huge 1.2 aperture but the body is even smaller than 1.7s. One of the most important reasons to go with mirrorless is the size. Those 1.7s, though also small, are not really pocketable, if you think about sony's own 16mm and 20mm. Although this lens is also unpocketable, the apreture of 1.2 really changes everything. Plus it's a sonnar lens, with is really legendary and powerful in history, but is rather rare today. Actually, I'm sure this 7artisans is the only aps-c sonnar lens you can get today
The Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 is also Sonnar and it’s for APS-C
I didn't know about that, so this 7 artisans is not the only sonnar I guess. However, 24 equals to 35mm on full frame, while this 35 is a standard 50mm. People don't really compare lenses with different focal length, do they? I don't think they are comparable, nor do they have anything to do with each other, so I am technically wrong, but it doesn't really change anything
Can I ask how you get your colours so lovely?
What you thing about the vignetting? acceptable? Thanks. Great review!
Sorry if you’ve already answered this but which do you prefer for 35mm 7artisans or Meike? What about 25mm? Thanks so much!
Great work as usual. Please do an all manual lens shootout! I’m probably getting a manual next to go with my SEL50F18 and kit lens. Aloha!
I wonder which one is better between the kamlan 50mm f1.1 and the 7Artisans 35mm f1.2 I really need a good lens for low light street, indoor and astro. I already have a 1.8 50mm pentax, 50mm 1.7 Yashica, 20-80 f3.5 Sigma, Sony G f4 18-105 and a Super-Takumar 1.8
Hey, I one of new user of this 7artisans 35f1.2 on my fuji XA3...and still difficult to get good focus on it. Do you have trick or tips about that. Appreciated it, thx
hey, great video. i am new to photography and am really wondering if i should get the 7artisans 35mm. i use the eos m (apsc). i got told several times that any 35mm lens on an apsc camera will be more like a 50mm lens, which i dont want. im really confused... is this lens a real 35mm on my apsc? or will it be multiplied? please help me, im really getting desperate with all the info.
pls reply i need help in making my decision on this one
Looking forward to the Meike 35mm comparison.
Thanks for the review. Does it vignette like the 7Art 25mm f1.8? I tried the 25mm and it vignettes a bit too much for me so I returned it.
I bet you with this lens you would be hitting the highest Shutter speed in daylight wide open. Sometimes I wish for an 1/8000th speed on the Sony APSC cams. Hope that's on the a6700.
High-speed lenses and a bright sun are always a bummer, but you can always use the ND filter. I'll probably try to get a vari-ND for this lens. It will probably cost more than the lens itself :)
My xt10 has shutter speed of 1/32000 with electronic shutter so I can shoot wide open at 1.2 and in bright sun light
@technologymafia how does this compare (in sharpness, build) to the Neewer 35 f1.7 lens, which is nearly half the price?
How would you compare this to the SLR Magic Cine 35mm f/1.2 ?
A lens hood will get rid of that flare in most conditions. Also at f/1.2 no lens is sharp. I'm going to give his lens a try in Micro 4/3. Thanks for your review.
I guess you aren't familiar with the Samyang xp series and new sigma lenses. Those are razor even on a 42mp sensor.
I did purchase the 12mm f2.8 with the Nd adapter and I think it’s a lens what could interest you, if you are willing to review more lens from 7 artisans, I m curious about the result face to the sigma and samyang wide angle.
I know you said it's hard to focus, but what you did video-wise makes me love it! So I'll get one. And I love your reviews... thanks again!
I wish manufacturers could all agree on a common direction of aperture direction/numbering.
Is there any available for canon EOS, or for canon m, only? Thanks
Hi ! I own a fuji on which, with the kit lens, I can see on the screen informations when I change the focus manually, or the aperture. Is this lens "linked" to the body in such a way allowing me to see those informations on screen ? thank you !
4:50 was that an added effect or what was recorded?
built in flare effect from the lenses :)
Do you have any manual lens reviews on any of the a7 series?
Have you done the newer, Neewer lenses? They have a 35mm f1.2, 32mm f1.6, along with their 35mm f1.7
I have reviewed the 35mm F1.2 and the 35mm F1.7. The 32mm F1.6 is coming!
@@ArthurR thank you good sir
Is this lens exclusively for aps-c or also fullframe (Sony A7)?
Brought this lens earlier this year, it is good and affordable, shoot a lot of bokeh photo out of this lens.
This lens is an absolute bokeh machine
Can it do autofocus?
@@Spectre-xj7lx no. it is manual focus
it is....the bokeh is bada$$
Can you compare this to the Rokinon/Samyang 35mm F1.2?
@technologymafia how easy on your opinion is making video with this lens?
Great video! Looks like you guys are in the Austin area? I also live in the Austin area and just started really getting into photography and video. Would love to pick your brain!
Do you get focus peaking with lens and your Sony camera? I have an a6300.
Could you check out SEL18135 plz? Would love to hear your opinion on this vs. the GMaster 18105
Maxim Zimmermann It’s coming!
I like it, its a bit Leica- classic-looking lens. Thanks TM!
Very beautiful, do you think this will fit with my Canon SL2?
Unless youve changed the mount on your Canon to a Sony E Mount, no.
Cannot wait comparison with meike lens...
and I too...
Me too, I own and love the meike. Curious how this one will compare...
"...dropping those hit records.." 😆
Hello! Love your videos.
Are there any 10, 16 or 12-18 or... what else for Sony-E mount with or without AF and with this small values $?
Thanks!
thanks for the great vids. can you start including what your a6000 camera settings are for each lens you test (wether it is on m,s or a)? i litterallty just got the a6000 becauase of your great reviews. have a great day.
Is it possible to use a lens hood to reduce flaring on this lens? May be a dumb question
I guess it doesn't come with one, and I'm not sure if there is a thread to attach a lens hood. If there is, I don't see why not! And it probably would reduce flaring
versus samyang 35mm f1.2 please
Hey, im about to purchase A 7artisans lenses, the 25 f1.8, this 35 f1.2 años the 55 f1.4... i work doing Stills for motion pictures... my question, those lenses works for that kind of photography???
Is it compatible with a Nikon d5200?
Reminds me of the Minolta 1.2 45mm Lens , looks old school
Hello technologyMafia , I have a question. (sorry my eng so bad lol)
My gear is Sony a6000 with Kit, and Sigma 30f1.4. I want to buy 1 more lens. I think about Sony 18-105 F4 G or Sony Fe 85mm f1.8 . with my low budget what i can choose. My budget lower 700$. and I like Portrait photo. So can you recomance 1 lens for me in my budget
Thanks so much
can you please make a video comparing sony 18-105 and 55-210....
Will this lens go with the Fuji X-T3?
THANKS!
I LOVE this design! Looks like a fantastic travel lens, I've been looking for a sub f/1.8 prime to pack around, but they're all quite bulky (and expensive, don't want to risk them getting stolen). I think I'll be picking this up, reminds me of the the voigtlander 35mm f/1.4
Hi there ! Is this lens useable for sony ff camera like the a7 line. Big thanks!
Appreciate the straight forward review. I was between this and the 25mm. Cheers!
Which one you bought then.
I ma also confused between 25 mm f1.8 or this ?
@@tusharsharma5237 I bought the 25mm. Really love the focal length
does this fit a Canon EOS Rebel SL1?
got meike 2 days ago. waiting for comparison with it
I’ve been following your channel for quite a while and I’ve learnt so much, but I have a question.
I have a Sony A6000 with a Sony 50mm F1.8 OSS SEL Lens. I like taking portraits and want to get sharper photos. If I change my lens to the Sony FE 85mm F/1.8 Lens, will I be able to achieve sharper portraits? Or do you recommend a different lens? Because both the 50mm and the 85mm lens have the same aperture of F/1.8. The only difference between the two is the focal length.
I dont think you will see an increase in sharpness. The 50mm lens is already super sharp. The bokeh will be more creamy with the 85mm though.
TechnologyMafia I see. Thanks for the info. :D
I still like my $45 Fotasy 35mm F1.6 APS-C.
Does a cameras metering work with a manual lens ... even though it can't adjust the lens.
The A7Sii shoots 4 K will this lens be able to handle it and shoot 4K ?
how does that compare to the SLR Magic Cine 35mm 1.2?hmm
Full frame capable or cropped sensor only?
please review 7artisans 12mm F2.8
Yes, especially vs. the rokimon
Exactly. I'm waiting for that review!
Me too!
Oh I want that Review so badly ;)
For what its worth, I own the 7artisans 12mm and I think its fantastic for the price. Though rarely do I need to shoot that wide, the Sigma 16mm 1.4 is almost always my go to wide angle and should be your main priority for a wide if you dont have one.
Is it radio active? The red flaring makes me a bit suspicious
RUclips keeps unsubscribing me from you, love your content man
How does it compare with the Loxia 35/2?
wow great lens and awesome review
Which is better kamlan 50mm 1.1 vs Artisian 35mm 1.2?
Do they have EF mount?
Please review Neewer 35mm 1.2, I dont know which to get; 7Artisans 35mm 1.2 or Neewers 35mm 1.2 :(
Neewer = meike. Watch the 7artisans 35 mm vs meike 35mm. Maybe it will help you to decide
What adapter for Helios and artisans to a Fuji x mount?
How does this perform on the A7R3?
I have the tt-artisans 23 mm 1,4 for Sony, that's almost the same for a little price
Something tells me I won't regret buying this lens.
