Has the Ashlands made you angrier than any other biome in this game, or is it just us? (As I say at the end, most of the deaths are from us not being well prepared, but at the very least it was also very funny for us at the same time!)
"I'm going to die aren't I". This is the role I fill in my Valheim group, a very important and integral one. You encourage the others to fight on and avenge you. Works every time. Except when it doesn't. Which is all the time in Ashlands.
Slightly better than my role tho "oh nice moat you dug around here! I am probably going to kill myself by falling into it" sure enough. Every. Single. Time. Even if it isn't deep enough I'll either fall from the roof into it, killing myself, or just fall 4 times in a row into it, killing myself as well. Oh well, somebody has to do it I guess.
Ashlands is really something else. I coop this game with my cousin and somehow we managed to sail through the spikes at first try (didn't do any research beforehand so the spikes were a surprise). On the main land it was even more terrible. You don't have 5 seconds rest to build a portal in a safe location, just hordes of enemies all the time. At one point we got so sick of it, I resorted to using the "kill command" in devmode. Literally pressing this key every 5 seconds killed about 10-15 enemies, it's insane! Seeing this video it seems were weren't the only ones struggling. I can't imagine doing ashlands as a solo player haha

Your video made me smile a lot, so thank you! Very similiar to my Ashlands experience with my 9 yo son. The arrival through the spikes is definately the most stresfull part! Finally got a foothold and started to grind our way towards to boss. Killed him a couple of days ago, but I lost count how many times we died while on the continent. Awesome, brutal biome, can’t wait for the Deep North 😄
Thank you for putting this video into existence! I feel like it summarizes the average gamer's early experiences with Ashlands exceptionally well! The first time my buddy got pushed into the lava by an Asksvin, we hadn't even made basalt bombs yet! Keep at it, it gets better!
I landed on the Ashlands for the first time today. The difficulty is pretty rough down there. I haven't put that much time in yet but after watching your video I feel like the devs need to take the nerf hammer on that place a little. Dying here and there is part of the game, but constantly dying and doing corpse runs gets unfun in a hurry. Great vid!
Hello, enjoyed watching your party's adventures before our own sets out tonight. One thing I do want to point out is that our beloved Feather Cape's very weak modifier to Fire can be overwritten by the Barley Wine. Resist and weakness don't cancel each other out, resist just overwrites any existing weakness. Hopefully we can avoid some lava mishaps of our own with mad hops (and our Tasty/Lingering Stamina energy drinks). Will make sure to watch out for fireballs though haha
Just one tip of you want, always carry a shield and i would suggest the new tower shield. I saw a few deaths were you could‘ve easily blocked the enemys and survived. Good luck with the rest of the ashlands and especially the boss haha.
I've not died half as much as this in the Ashlands on my own, but hat's off to you for playing it properly. I cultivated every glitch, long ranged attact and cheesing to get through it.
And thats why you bring the feather cape rather than any other cape. You think that reduced resistance to fire would be a burden but you can offset it with a fire potion. The + jump height is a big help in traversing through the lava and evading asksvin attacks.
Buddy and I having a tough time just the two of us and we did a sort of cheaty world just to speed up testing the ashlands and wow is it hard even with max mistlands stuff!! I think Ashlands is actually EASIER for solo players . . . at least until the teams learn how everything works and get new weapons. Solo you are used to taking things slowly and being careful and this reduces the enemies and aggro you draw. Keeping a low profile, shooting spawners from a distance outside their trigger range, sniping enemies (I went in with the Huntsman bow because of its stealth properties and only upgraded later when I was more comfortable). The enemies also don't get the multiplayer upscaled health and damage and so are much easier to fight (as long as you don't get overwhelmed). Big teams also make a TON of noise and attract way more attention. Things like the bonemaw are easy to solo . . . I actually killed two from my longship while I was scouting the Ashlands borders before I even fought the Queen. So I already had some great food for my landing and was already experienced to quickly kill bonemaws on the sail in. All in all the Ashlands has been really fun . . . 5 deaths so far. But all I have left to do is tame a starred Asksvin and do the boss fight!. 🙂
Hey mate, thanks so much for the donation, you are way too kind! I think you are kind of right about solo vs multiplayer in that when I play solo I am a lot more cautious, make a lot more portals and generally take my time more. In a group there's a different dynamic where you end up doing things you normally wouldn't do. For example, get involved in tough fights to try save someone else, or rushing into something because someone else has to go soon. On the other hand, with 4 people you can constantly spam Bonemass! 😅 I recently played a little more and tamed some Asksvins. Making a hole and just throwing in a little bit of each thing that grows in the Ashlands seemed to do the trick. They're fun to ride around but the Asksvins have the habit of climbing on top of each other and trying to escape so they can get quite annoying around the base. (I wrote a l comment back to you before but I don't think it sent so apologies if you get two similarly-worded messages!)
its crazy going from seeing maybe 1-2 regular serpents every once in a while, sometimes never it would seem like.. to like freaking running into 8-10 on a single trip. defiantly caught me off guard on my first trip into the ashlands
Great watch! Wouldn't play it myself though as this update seems like more of the least enjoyable stuff (inventory management, too many enemies, stupid ways to die, constant naked runbacks), and not much else. A bit of a shame the devs took this direction, but I am happy many people enjoy the game anyway.
The only way I'm gonna ashlands solo is the mode "enemies don't see me until I attack". 18:53 Crash Bandicoot's spinning sound, love it! Overall it's a great video, thanks 👏
So those fortresses are indestructible except by siege weapons. When i wanted to make a safe base, i built up over one, used magic to kill everything inside to the best of my abilities (Specifically the fireball staff from the mistlands), jumped over it and claimed the base as mine. You can also pickaxe under the center of the fortress to get everything in side without breaking it. Throw a shield generator in the middle and it's a solid safe place. Build portals into and out of the fortress so you don't need to scale the side
Let’s be honest, the misery of players going to the Ashlands and some being unprepared is entertaining as hell 😂 with what transpires with them on their journey. It’s not that you don’t want to see them succeed, but you do want to see them face some challenges. However, the challenges can be so soul crushing 😮that you can’t help but feel so entertained just watching in awe with your jaw on the floor going damn! In Valheim I’ve learned on any boat journey, make sure you can easily build 2-3 boats as you just might need them all. Enjoying the journey with you all 😂😂😂.
My first travel to Ashlands also ended with sunken drakkar (I used it as a hideout and attacked enemies with bow from there). Then on the shore I was attacked by "starred" enemies and almost died but managed to flee from the shore only to find some animals chasing me. By luck I managed to climb up the ladder in some ruins. Then I started to make my mini-base there, but enemies regularly destroyed my teleport and then destroyed the big rock from which I tried to kill them with my bow. So they destroyed teleport and killed me. I had to build one more drakkar and return back. This time I managed to encircle my mini-base with deep trench. And I built one more teleport on the top of some ruins to feel even more safe. I already found cave and built new type of teleports. But sadly I did not find the ore in lava yet. I have to admit that playing it alone is a hardcore until you entrench your base. And even then there are chances valkyries can visit it.
You all are so much stronger than i am, by the time my portal to the ashlands broke for the 3rd time, i decided to turn on console commands and rebuild the teleporter back. It has been pure pain, but ive logged 200 more hours on the game because of it.
This biome has been destroying me as a solo player. Once I sailed in and put a portal down, it took me like 2+ hours and 10 deaths in before I was able to get a small hut built. Brutal!
@@BigBrianGameplay it has! Today I switched from the mist walker back to my previous favorite, the frostner. The knockback has truly leveled the playing field for me and I’m having some fun exploring a bit now!
How upset are they gonna feel when they could have built the large portal entirely at base and in the ashlands without needing to transport metal cause you can find it in vases to which all you need is two iron
I just got to ashlands today and I think there are definetely too many enemies there, its impossible to gather or build anything because im constantly attacked by groups of 4-5+ enemies, normal ones can be dealth with but some asksvins or morgens (especially with 1-2 starts) in addtions to few skeletons are just impossible to deal with
Could you do a tour of your base if you haven't already? Me and my clan (there are 3 of us total) are planning on combined our houses into one big single base and it seems like you guys have a good setup
yeah the first Fortress Siege is always the worst. Popping Bonemass and Fire resistance mead and having someone take care of the spawners while everyone else deals with the mobs is a good strat for co-op. Having someone with magic, more specifically Staff of Protection to give you one-shot protection and Staff of Embers for AoE damage helps a lot to manage the mess that is a Charred army. Once you get the newer stuff you can craft in the Ashlands though, everything becomes way easier. The new magic staves especially can help someone solo a fortress siege.
Haha we've been raided three times by them, once in the first vid, a second time in the plains which I cut out of this vid, and then the third time I barely got to see in this video. Honestly at the time of the first raid that was when spawns were crazy and we barely noticed a difference haha
I remember when i first solo sailed to Asshland. I never researched about asshland but I have full upgraded armour and weapons so i thought that it'll be an easy in and out. Right from the get go got a bonemaw puching holes through the hull of my drakkar while getting pestered by volture, still i managed to land ashore just to be greeted by 2 monument of torment. Took me 6 in-game sleepless night to destroy both spawner (with the help of some dverger from a nearby dverger oupost). *And this is just the shore*
yup, its like watching the replay on my moments on ashland. raided the fortress with 5 friends. 5 vs army of undead, 3 normal morgens, a 2 star morgens, 2 big fcking bird that kept spamming tatsumaki senpukaku and hadokens. the stress was intense.
WAIT --- 1.st thing you do in ashlands to protect the base is to raise walls araund it. Second, you can use the new buble thing to place protection near flamemetal deposit and nothing will hit you. Also you dont have to destroy whole fortress to get in. You can raise a mudwall next to it and snipe out the spawners. Then you can just jump in and loot (and middle tower can be diged under)
Hmm ok, my first vid seeing the ashlands, I thought could only get better after the experience in the mistlands, now after I got a look at the ashlands here, I decided to take a break from Valheim
Well, now I realise how lucky we got on our first trip there...dind't loose a boat and at least not the backup portal. Also, much fun to everyone with the boss, the fight takes so long, it will become night and creatures will spawn in.
me and my friend went in blind,(no knowledge about anything waiting up ahead) we had teleport materials with us, bonemaw destroyed boat, but we got portal up, mined the pillar, made big teleporter, got metal through, and made new boat, first try, on land base up, on HARD MODE.
Dig a wide trench around your bases in the Ashlands. I'm a solo player, I have already located and cleaned out a fortress full of flametal ore. The Ashlands can be cheesed by digging holes and trapping things.
Uncanny just how accurate this video was to our playthrough. The only difference was that it broke me, I went god mode and brought sunder upon the Ash!
Me and my mate had to use a rock as a beach head. we mined the top flat, set up a small platforom and stuck eerything on there. that way we had a "safe" port that wouldnt get destroyed. Toughest place yet though.
My team of 4 went to the Ashlands for the first time yesterday. We were almost squad wiped before we even touched land, were completely squad wiped when we touched land. after we established our base in the Ashlands, we had died all together around 70 times if you include running back to our bodies. We had only explored maybe 2.5% of what a normal biome size is in the game. An area small enough that if unimpeded you could run from one end to the other in about 45 seconds. While we play on hardmode, this is after about 9 hours of gameplay. The Ashlands is next level and I believe it to be nearly a fake difficulty. It's not hard because you need skill to solve it, or special tactics... It's a bullshit difficulty, they just make it unfair. The lava blobs the fly out of the lava pools will actually target you. They aren't random. The flametal sinking thing is a bit stupid, the enemy spam is insane. The ranged accuracy and damage is pathetic. It's just unfair until you have serious progress and start taming the Avskins and have upgraded flametal items. I have not reached the point of attacking the forts yet... Seeing this video, Brian and his team are playing on normal difficulty. On hard you would not survive a single hit from a Morgen even with base level flametal armor.
Here is a tip: While raised ground walls can be destroyed by lava blobs, moats doesn’t, and prevents all mob AI from pathfinding across or they get stuck in there
I spent over an hour with the corners on the Grausten roof pieces before telling myself a horrible design mistake had been made and reported it as a bug in their feedback. Totally blew me away that something so big had been missed.
Me and my two friends all have rolls we naturally fell into. One is a mage/scout, other is builder/warrior while I tank being slowest but do the most damage with two handed weapons.
I've got almost 2,300 hours logged into this game (I build A LOT!) And I must say that I've been really enjoying the Ashlands. Especially the new weapons! But I'm disappointed that they didn't make new knives, atgeirs or a new two handed sledge for the biome. The Demolisher is hands down the most satisfying weapon of mass destruction, and I can only imagine that a new hammer would be just AMAZING!
I played solo and I managed to make it all the way to Mistlands where I unfortunately died and couldn't recover my stuff. But goodness gracious I am so glad that I haven't even attempted Ashlands because this is so brutal.
I forgot about The Queen item when I first logged back in with Ashlands update.... I died probably 10 times and lost just as many ships trying to sail straight in with them getting hurt by the water. Solo here, definitely very hard.
I spent 5 gaming sessions with my friends trying to retrieve my items in the Ashlands. 2, maybe 3 gaming sessions trying to get into the Ashlands, where our friend was stuck because the portal was destroyed and the materials mystically vanished. We built three drakkars in the whole ordeal. Maneuvering a drakkar through those spires all the while being attacked by Bonemaws and vultures was frightening.
What dedicated server are you using? Ive got terrible lag problems on mine just playing with 2 friends. Was a bit laggy before when we built a lot but nowadays when more than 1 enters the Ashlands enemies are just teleporting around and you cant hit anything.. read that from a lot of posts online but yours seems to do fine :D
No dedicated server, just hosting it myself. We did get some lag problems at times. There was one part that was really bad where I couldn't hit anything so I ended up cutting that all out! haha I read the way the game works is that whoever is the first to an area is the host for that area, so try getting whoever has the best internet to go in first. It might help.
Fellow Aussie, good story telling, just as much of a scrub as I am...take a sub mate! I've only in the last few days got to sit down to try Ashlands. I think I handled it even worse than you :D It wasnt until my 5th boat I finally made landfall and established a portal. Two of those ships now lay on the sea floor, I didnt have floating nails (how on earth did you get away with that?!), and two more are moored near one of the spires I died twice by, and the final ship is safe at my portal. One of the big shore rocks was just off shore a tiny bit and I was able to make a portal room on it to which I later added a 2nd portal to a land location. I can easily reach land from the first portal but have a better seteup on land at the 2nd. I made a tiny base out of gausten and put a shield generator in it after I went back home and got the metal I needed and should have taken there ages ago. With a safe passage finally now all set up after several in-game weeks, I set out to sample the fruits of the land and...I'm sick of it. The flametal is so far away from shore it's night by the time I get near it, and even if I do reach it in the day, the enemies just keep coming. I'm finding the spawn timers and agro ranges very frustrating and it feels like it's tuned for group play, I only play solo. I have hundreds of ashlands kills already and barely been 200m outside my base. When I play again today I will have to set up a portal relay I think. Probably the only way i'm going to get to flametal before dark. Just have to remind myself it will get easier and keep grinding. I play with no mods or modifiers and I'm somewhat proud of that.
we got stuck in a similar situation but we always have a portal set up at the base and portal mats on each of us so that way when we crashed and burned one of us was able to jump onto a pillar build a portal rebuild the boat and recover all the bodies with minimal screamin XD
You guys should have a magic guy with a staff of protection and skeletons. The staff of protection is really helpful and the skeletons make very good distractions
jsut finished playing thru Ashlands for the first time by myself and just took out a fortress solo definitely seems like it would be easier with other people so when a mob of 15 enemies shows up you can split the aggro
interesting question. I never got to play the pre-nerf version of the Mistlands because we made this world at around the time it first released, but by the time we got up to it they'd already lobotomised the Seekers.
Yeah I talk about it at the end of vid haha. On this save we last played on it like a year and a half ago. We finished the Mistlands, and barely tried out the magic before everyone stopped playing until now. No one has any magic skills but I'll level some up because I have to try out these new staves.
Went flametal mining last night, had a trained Asksvin and a saddle, and thought, yeh, this will be a doddle, 24 deaths, some Asksvin hide, some tails, and a lost saddle later I have a renewed level of caution, it's so frekkin dangerous, the spawn rate is intense, and getting caught out at night is virtually a guaranteed corpse run. Yup, died 2 or 3 times being charged into the lava by Askvins, then died a few more times trying to recover, the holes, or depressions, seem to be the source of the lava homing missiles, so dying in one can be very bad, repeatedly, lol. It's a blast, a real challenge, just on normal settings, and yeh, I can see why most won't make it to Valhalla, and go back to something easy like Darksouls, ahahaha.
Try the new serpent trophy on a horixontal item stand, looks wayyyyy better imo. Use them like the crow and wolf things for roofs or put em on a plinth...nice options with the horizontal.
trollstav is dope but just be mindful that unless there is enemies around they will go for you lol me and my best friend tested out a lot of things when it was in public test lol
how is there no lag, do you have a server you would suggest, all my friends have good internet and good computers and the game is unplayable together because of lag.
We were just hosting ourselves. One thing I learnt was apparently the first person that gets to an area will be the host of that area, so when I was recording I tried to be the first through the portal to minimise lag for the recording. It didn't always work, it was pretty laggy at times, but not super bad.
Solo ashlands was actually quite okay. Most of my deaths were due to the lava which was super frustrating at times but after clearing fortresses (with tons of flametal) became quite easy that wasnt a problem anymore. Quite comparable to the mistlands difficulty imo but the biome is so dense it feels like a huge step up in pretty much everything except for dungeons. The only thing im worried about is the gems. I cleared every fortress in my world and got like 14 iolites in total. I hope that wont be a problem in the future but obviously im afraid to experiment with new weapons. The dual axes are amazing tho.
Well final boss is weak to electric attacks, so going full electro is not a bad idea. Also dont make red gem weapons, they suck. Instead save them for workbench upgrade and secret flame sword.
Has the Ashlands made you angrier than any other biome in this game, or is it just us?
(As I say at the end, most of the deaths are from us not being well prepared, but at the very least it was also very funny for us at the same time!)

Screaming like cockatoo :`D
I can't unhear it now!
Duuudes, hahahaha, it was so fun to see you guys having your asses kicked there..... great gameplay, btw! congrats! So cool!
You all are so much stronger than i am, by the time my portal to the ashlands broke for the 3rd time, i decided to turn on console commands and rebuild the teleporter back. It has been pure pain, but ive logged 200 more hours on the game because of it.
Ooft, fair enough. It's doubly frustrating because the trip back is such a pain haha
This biome has been destroying me as a solo player. Once I sailed in and put a portal down, it took me like 2+ hours and 10 deaths in before I was able to get a small hut built. Brutal!
Ooft. Hopefully it'll get better from there
@@BigBrianGameplay it has!
Yepppp. We didn't even know there was a new portal so we brought everything there for no reason haha
I just got to ashlands today and I think there are definetely too many enemies there, its impossible to gather or build anything because im constantly attacked by groups of 4-5+ enemies, normal ones can be dealth with but some asksvins or morgens (especially with 1-2 starts) in addtions to few skeletons are just impossible to deal with
You genuinely make me happy whenever you upload.
Awwww cheers
Having one friend be the tank and another as the spellcaster works wonders for dealing with ashlands enemies. Especially by using the troll staff
Could you do a tour of your base if you haven't already? Me and my clan (there are 3 of us total) are planning on combined our houses into one big single base and it seems like you guys have a good setup
I don't know how great our setup is, but I will do it at some point!
Legend, amazing story telling as always!
Thanks!
this series is great bro keep it up
yeah the first Fortress Siege is always the worst.
The new magic staves especially can help someone solo a fortress siege.
i got spoiled but worth it. a friend and i "somehow" lost our faith in this ashland. until i know there is stone portal. thank you
that scream at 12:50 had me dying hahaha
Been so hyped for this video! You're a legend
Hell yea! Cheers mate
Haven’t got raided by the undead army yet y’all got great rng 😂
Haha we've been raided three times by them, once in the first vid, a second time in the plains which I cut out of this vid, and then the third time I barely got to see in this video. Honestly at the time of the first raid that was when spawns were crazy and we barely noticed a difference haha
Staff of the wild and the bubble shield make having a mage clutch. Frost staff is nice for leveling.
Haha sounds about right!
Maybe it's just us being bad!
The Ashlands can be cheesed by digging holes and trapping things.
thıs ıs a re₺arded group of people. a trench didnt change anything
Here is a tip:
While raised ground walls can be destroyed by lava blobs, moats doesn’t, and prevents all mob AI from pathfinding across or they get stuck in there
my #1 ashlands tip is always be mindful of the lava lmao
Yep I'm on board with that now!
I spent over an hour with the corners on the Grausten roof pieces before telling myself a horrible design mistake had been made and reported it as a bug in their feedback. Totally blew me away that something so big had been missed.
Need good ventilation in the ashlands I guess haha
Love your videos can’t wait for the next
Looks like fun, I'll be avoiding it for a while LOL
The devs are nerfing the Ashlands finally!
I played solo and I managed to make it all the way to Mistlands where I unfortunately died and couldn't recover my stuff. But goodness gracious I am so glad that I haven't even attempted Ashlands because this is so brutal.
Eh not rly. Its pretty easy if you come prepared. For landing area i recomend finding a area with buildings near a coast or dwermer outpost.
@@Bullminator Then why are 4+ of them struggling so hard??
@@jakov1043 More players = more damage from monsters close to them.
Also...they didnt raise the mud walls lol.
@Bullminator Ye ye speak what you want, I believe what I see and what I know. Ashlands has to be at least 3x harder than Mistlands.
This is why i cant record me and my friends adventures, wed say so much stuff that'd get us canceled when were fighting or dying xD
hahaha well you learn to edit around those things :P
should've added the message about the Askvines saying "The more you know" xD
man i love this series
I forgot about The Queen item when I first logged back in with Ashlands update.... I died probably 10 times and lost just as many ships trying to sail straight in with them getting hurt by the water. Solo here, definitely very hard.
I know the boat is supposed to be big but...that...is a BIG boat!
There was one part that was really bad where I couldn't hit anything so I ended up cutting that all out! haha
I read the way the game works is that whoever is the first to an area is the host for that area, so try getting whoever has the best internet to go in first. It might help.
Yo man, Is there any way of finding your music? sounds great!
Hey mate, not yet but I'll let you know if/when I upload some!
Calling out the developer for pitching the rocks and big ship, its so true!
I play with no mods or modifiers and I'm somewhat proud of that.
love this! any chance for a world download? would love to play along
we got stuck in a similar situation but we always have a portal set up at the base and portal mats on each of us so that way when we crashed and burned one of us was able to jump onto a pillar build a portal rebuild the boat and recover all the bodies with minimal screamin XD
I'd love an active group of players to play with like this. I just got into valhiem after it released for Xbox.
You guys should have a magic guy with a staff of protection and skeletons. The staff of protection is really helpful and the skeletons make very good distractions
jsut finished playing thru Ashlands for the first time by myself and just took out a fortress solo
definitely seems like it would be easier with other people so when a mob of 15 enemies shows up you can split the aggro
question: is ashlands harder than mistlands back when mistlands came out?
interesting question. I never got to play the pre-nerf version of the Mistlands because we made this world at around the time it first released, but by the time we got up to it they'd already lobotomised the Seekers.
Love this series, please see it through 🙏
Ashlands have been rough; however, why didn't I see one of you using magic? Frost staff tears those mobs apart and is safe to use around ship.
Yeah I talk about it at the end of vid haha. On this save we last played on it like a year and a half ago. We finished the Mistlands, and barely tried out the magic before everyone stopped playing until now. No one has any magic skills but I'll level some up because I have to try out these new staves.
@BigBrianGameplay the magic weapons are a game changer.
Me and 2 friends have just started a new world and are gonna go to ashlands fully prepared haha 🤣 making sure we got enough boats and portals haha
Mistlands were already ridiculously hard. Ashlands is simply impossible.
Try the new serpent trophy on a horixontal item stand, looks wayyyyy better imo. Use them like the crow and wolf things for roofs or put em on a plinth...nice options with the horizontal.
@ 3:41
I said the same thing
Good humorous content.
Cheers mate!
Great job, all of you guys.
How do you have cooked Piquant Pie and Mashed meat at 5:15 but have not landed at the ashlands?? I mean i liked the video regardless but...
We had previously landed in the ashlands, this is part 2. I mention at the start of the video when i give a quick recap.
trollstav is dope but just be mindful that unless there is enemies around they will go for you lol me and my best friend tested out a lot of things when it was in public test lol
Being dead in lava is the new meta.
how is there no lag, do you have a server you would suggest, all my friends have good internet and good computers and the game is unplayable together because of lag.
Amazing video❤ it looks like im gonna have a hard time going into the ashlands😅
