Marbozir: highest deception score of them all
hahahaha lol
not really, you know he's going to warmonger. highest warmonger score.
Hearing Marb try to pronounce these Aztec city names is going to be amazing.
New Civilization 5 series! Trying something slightly different this time, which might or might not end poorly for us.
Edit: Hijacking my comment to post turn 0 autosave for this game: marbozir.com/civ5saves/aztec-lp-save.zip
Hi :)
*****
there is hardly any deception when you know the former will nuke you at first opportunity and the latter is afflicted with chronic backstabbism...
Awesome! Aztecs is such a nice civ. One of my favorites, by far.
***** Gandhi only has a 3 in deceptiveness.
Just thought I would let you know incase you didnt already the aztecs can also can build the floating gardens if they are adjacent to an oasis.
One trick if you declare war on an AI neighbor early to steal a worker - wait until the AI is ready to sign peace then use a unit that is lying in wait to steal a second worker immediately before signing peace. 2 free workers! Plus, sometimes the AI is really dumb and will send out an unescorted settler to steal. The downside is that it does tie up your units for a bit (keeping them from exploring).
Hell yeah, war before turn 10! That's Epic Marbozir right there :D
Turn 8 war. Pro strats.
Wow. I've never has China be deceptive, or even aggressive in any of my games before. Surprising.
on what difficulty level do you play?
Emperor.
thats interesting. could it be possible that you were ahead of them in military strenght and science?
Philipp Käppeli Most likely, but I have a bad habit of checking the global politics constantly, and I have never seen them backstab anyone.
Things like that can happen. The first year of playing, every time I had Dido in my game she wanted to be my friend and never tricked me. Felt like having a big sister. Now she's in every game and invading me at every possible opportunity.
Thank you for providing the turn 0 save.
I just finished your mongolia LP and I must say,it was really, really enjoyable. And it looks like this series will be pretty good as well! Looks like I'll have something to watch in my free time!
Advertisement for Jaguar before playing this video. RUclips is genius.
I'm so fucking hyped for this shit!
I'm so glad I discovered your channel, Marbozir! I'm making my way through all of your videos, and they are simply fascinating! Thanks so much for your work!
Literally waiting for you to come out with a new Let's Play series for Civ 5 BNW.
In this case, I think settling on one of the resources makes the most sense. As many have pointed out, Grand Mesa is a pretty weak wonder. On the salt gets in range of the other salt (pantheon) and is river/mountain. On the deer loses the salt but gets a 3rd gem. On the gems loses the observatory but might be in the best strategic spot. Personally I'd go with the deer: River/mountain, 4 gems, 2 wheat, 1 salt, 1 sheep, 1 stone. A mined gem will be worth the same or more as Grand Mesa (unless that proposal gets passed), so I wouldn't prioritize it. Keep up the good work Marb!
Almost choked on my tea when he said "Bat Shit Crazy" ahah Funny and a good RUclipsr!!
"... but I don't want to lose the 'Jugular Warrior'"! I love Marbozir's pronounciations.
Marbozir, you're the man. Whenever I play Civ 5 I narrate the game in your voice.
Feels like it's been ages since a series did NOT have Ramkhamtrollface. I'll actually miss his smug grin.
My favorite part of his accent has to be the way he says iron.
Really cool idea for a series makes it a challenge for you when you cant trust anyone. The cities you have on this game are going to be so good
I'm posting this to show my support and enthusiasm for this new series. I can't wait to see how it runs, and much praise for the experimenting on game types. Science!
Judging by the beginning, you're gonna nail this one man. Keep up the good work!
I like how when Marbozir are naming the opponent AI, he name all of them in civilization except "Napoleon"
If you settle 4 tiles to the west of berlin, you'll get 3 gems, 1 salt, 2 wheat, deer, river, and an observatory
Minimum distance is 4 tiles when on the same landmass.
I completely agree with Rinkster315. I think that is the best location to settle by far and it IS a valid location. In fact it was one of the two valid locations the game chose when you selected your settler the other being the one you liked. It would be a great for an invasion of Berlin!
I meant to say 4 my bad
The only problem with it is it would put a border between Marbozir and Germany. I know he said he wanted to takeover berlin, but plopping down a city Right next to another civ can make them very angry. When was the last time making a bunch of Germans angry a good thing. (Hi Argentina)
mcp0924 as a brazilian, and another victim of germanic fury, i think your comentary deserve more likes! Kkk
You should have added the Siamese just to keep the troll around, he seems to be in every game
Yeah, Trollface is your Nemesis and should be in every game.
Yes given Marbozirs history with Ramkham he should definitely be included in every game. If only to hear ... "What, dis guy"
WHAT!! no ram-kham-trollface, lol. Loving ur Civ and XCOM LPs'. Keep up the great work Marbozir.
This looks great, it is definitely more entertaining when you set the map to your advantage as you can actually use the Civ you picked to its full potential.
This channel always makes me want to play a wider variety of civs
i loved the starting, also honor opener stacking with unique effect is crazy amounts of culture,i see with your faith you can buy a lot of engineers and catch some nice wonders! i love religion most of the time because of that, and the unique buildings for happiness etc
Still good after all these years.
Great!
Awesome start, a lot of good locations, close neighbours, lots of potential wars :)
Can't wait for the next part.
This is going to be a very entertaining game. I also want to say that you make great videos and I learned a vast amount about this game from them. Thank you Marbozir!
Late to the party, but love these Civ 5 Deity playthroughs. Thank you for making them!
This is a great series idea Marbozir, I loved the japan let's play as well so I hope there will be more like these in the future.
Love seeing a new Civ 5 series. Kinda sad Siam isn't in it though. Feels like something missing, when I don't hear "Ramkhamtrollface" at least once per episode. Keep it up Marb.
As much as I love the Long War videos, I'm glad to see another Civ game. Thanks!
I have always wanted to play a game and do well as monty. I'm sure you'll show off how awesome he can be and i'm loving the map type. Looking forward to the series!
Killer start, really excited for this series. All that growth will really help keep up with the A.I.'s on science. Could have the biggest capital in the game.
This looks like it'll be a very interesting series. The deceptiveness of the AIs might lead to some interesting defensive wars, and a lot of wars beetween AIs themselves. And your starting location is just great, with a lot of potential for other nearby cities. Everything about this start is really great, I think it's going to be a very fun to watch series.
couldn't wait for the next series... And here it is!!!!!!!!!
I think I'd settle on either the salt or deer next to the mountain. Observatory is better than a crappy natural wonder you won't be working most of the time. Wouldn't be the best city ever, but 4 luxuries and so on. Not that many good city locations around that aren't horribly exposed to the AI
I agree with this idea. Probably settling on the salt would be best as it would give you an immediate lux to sell. Settling there would pick up an additional salt to the west (to make up for the lost gems) and it would be very defensible with the mountain. A very nice spot I think.
It's possible to get 4 gems, 2 salt and 2 weat by settling next to the mountain. It's on the spot that was close to Berlin, but that doesn't matter that much as Berlin is the primary target anyway.
Yeah, I didn't consider settling on top of deer because I rarely (if ever) do that, but this actually seems to be the best option.
Keep up the good work Marb! I feel like I'm going to enjoy this series a lot.
marbozir, your sessions of civ5 are the best !!
Wow. Awesome start. Look forward to this LP, Marbozir.
So happy to see Marb playing as the Aztecs, one of my favorite civs. Good luck bud, I'll be rooting for a Jaguars Carpet of Doom to flood the world.
And the legend.. once again, begins!!
First of all, that's a really nice start.
Being friendly with Russia is probably going to be better than friendship with Germany (minor problem being that they got DoF with eachother). The latter likes to get a lot of wonders, which makes him a good target, and you don't want him to get out of control. I would get a city next to the mountain and two wheat tiles, it has quite a bit of good tiles in addition to the mountain, and if you go after Germany it doesn't really matter that much if you piss them off.
Also the grassland hill west of Tenochtitlan, that would be a coastal city and you could get some sea trade routes, it's next to a lake, has 2 salt, the marble and stone, can get Stone Works etc. Problem with that is Ankara being so close, but that doesn't really hinder the city much as most of those tiles are outside it's range.
This looks like a good game Marbozir, I think you'll still be able to win this one despite the deceptive AIs
This is a good idea to keep it interesting. Next you should do it with the most aggressive AI with really powerful unique units in the early game, but I'm getting ahead of myself. This lets play just started.
Hi Marbozir! Nice idea with these deceptive leaders :) Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. Cheers, Adrian!
This seems like an interesting start, my Marbozir friend. Yep.
Sweet series. This is the only channel I constantly keep refreshing! :)
What an incredible start!
btw, thanks for your series of civ 5 plays. A few months ago i finally managed to crash a deity AI after picking a trick or two from you and now it's almost always a win (after a lot of struggle surely).
You could settle on the deer tile. You get the river, the mountain and all the gems, and you can still settle another city next to grand mesa. You also have 9 happiness so you don't have to delay that second settler and grab the good spots right away.
I love the idea of all these deceptive AI:s in one big pool of backstabbin´ chaos. Will definitely follow this series!
Your videos have gotten me to pick CIV back up.
Thank-you for the new series. Looking forward to this one. Germany-Russia sandwich looks tricky, they have some nice capital city locations. But hey, perhaps they will build some nice wonders for us....
Good Job Marbo! Super excited to see this game play out
Can't wait for part 2, really like the map template
Great start to the series. going to continue watching.
Marbozir, I've been a long-time lurker, following you with fervor since early BNW and XCOM:EW and I have come out of the shadows to tell you this: Puh-lease settle on top of the deer tile (or salt in case the deer tile is not on a river) next to the mountain between Tenochtitlan and Berlin! I was screaming at the screen every time you mentioned settling and the whole coop England/Arabia series with quill18 has a bittersweet taste for me because you settled York north of London instead of that juicy bottleneck position to the south. Seriously, I see you struggling for two episodes now and I'm Captain Hindsight by saying: 'Yup, you should have settled there, buddy' :D Someone pointed already why the aforementioned location is superior to one northwest of Berlin, so I won't go into detail.
P.S.
Coincidentally I am reading an amazing book about Aztec people, culture and war endeavors and I've an idea for you: As you probably know human sacrifice was an important practice in Meso-American cultures and Aztecs sure were masters of it (thus the UA). In order to honor Huitzilopochtli, the sun god associated with war, slaves and captives were sacrificed in thousands (if you wanna see more and don't want to read, Mel(d) Gibson made an okay-ish movie called Apocalypto). I say let's go a step further - *burn every single city and make pyres worthy of our sun-god!* Sure, it would hurt your economy, especially in late game, but for role-playing purposes just imagine tens of thousands crazed Aztec warriors chanting war hymns while enslaving and murdering citizens of soon-to-be-ash-piles. Capitals are of course an exception since you (sadly) cannot burn them to the gound and the wastelands can be repopulated with new, incredibly hard to pronounce cities (here comes the 'hurt your economy' part). If you opt to go for Order (best ideology imho) you can pick a tenet to start new cities with 3 (or 5, not sure) pop. It is rarely a good idea to start multiple new cities from Industrial era on and knowing your peace-loving tendencies, if given chance you'll probably go for Autocracy but please keep in mind that: 1. Save from Atilla, majority of civs would pick Order or Freedom (and you'll need a coastal city if Prora would tip you off for Autocracy) long before you'd be able to pick your ideology and 2. Role-playing (again)! Aztec weren't actually native to Meso-American plateau, they came from the north and totally-not-brutally incorporated, conquered or totally-not-annihilated many independent tribes and cities! Someone would call it karma, but pretty much the same happened to them not long after Aztec Empire reached its zenith. In any case, I hope you'll find time to read and consider my essay, I'm sure this game is going to be amazing and if you see some conquistadors from militaristic CS - DUDE, RUN!
This seems like a very good idea. It will definitely be an interesting series. I would still like to see a Gandhi domination victory though for the next let's play lmfao
Very nice video commentary you keep it alive the whole 26 minutes
Just some things to note:
That huge lake to the west is in fact an ocean, not a lake and by settling on the hill, without fresh water you would get spices, gain a sheep tile and not lose bananas, which you didn't mention.
Good luck ^^
Great video! Enjoyed watching you go through the first set of turns.
Crazy-good start there, Marbozir! Looking forward to seeing how this plays out!
good first part, can't wait to see what happens next.
this is an awesome start, great lands. clear first target. I will try to load the turn zero save and play this one.
Awesome to have a new series!
Love watching you play Civ, it's really educational :)
I'm way, way, way, behind on your video's as I've been playing other games, but you're still an amazing player!
If you settle near that big lake to the south west you can get a cargo ship trade route with the city state.
This will be an interesting game, keep up the good work Marb!
Really enjoying your videos on Civ 5 man.
I will be sorely disappointed if every single AI doesn't backstab every other civ at the end of this LP. :3 =grabs popcorn= This is certainly going to be exciting!
YES! A new civ 5 series.
Great idea o deceptive AI. I like to play with the tile yield on, but without it and without the hex grid the game looks much more clean and fluid. Might adopt your style of play. Thanks to you and Quill I am fighting on Immortal difficulty right now, on my way to deity someday. Keep up the good games!
i agree they helped me too!
well i think just watching marbozirs series is way more informative (he's not one of those LPers who just say what they're doing, but he also explains why) than the diety twins series.. just because its kinda a q&a from quill who i think doesnt get the game that much. have you seen his poland LP?
Philipp Käppeli Yes, I am watching Quills Poland LP, what about it? I like the way Quill plays, it's more relaxed (and not as efficient sometimes). It fits more with my lv of noobieness and I just plain enjoy his videos.
yeah quill does a good job at keeping it understandable, but he just makes too many mistakes
I am looking forward to the new series.
Awesome new series, looking forward to how it develops, especially with that turn 10 war.
Excited to see more civ 5 deity as a warmonger civ. But in the future, can you do the challenge of playing as a warmonger peacefully? It'd be interesting.
Loving the new series
Always love your civ 5 lets plays will be interesting with a lot of backstabers...
Comment for metadata. liked as well. Great opening, you're gonna kill it.
Why not settle your first expand to the north of the lone mountain south of the location you are already considering? It has an awful lot of resources so it will be a production beast, it has a river and is an observatory city. Sure youll forsake the grand Mesa but its kinda bad anyway. It'll also piss off Germany, but he should be your first target anyway due to proximity. Good luck. Also, the place where the ottomans settled is a sea, so NO floating garden bonuses.
This^
Such a good spot, and will be easier to take Berlin if u can use city bombardment on all his troops.
Ha! Marbozir throws himself into chaotic peril, good luck. :)
Yes!!! Finally The Aztecs can wait to see you dominate with them hehe :D
Awesome, can't wait for more.
Likeing and commenting for support bro.
keep the good stuff coming marb
I always look forward to your playthroughs, I can never do as well as you even on lower difficulty - I am just too damn unlucky. For instance my current game is Venice on King difficulty. Coastal city but blocked off by ice so no trade routes possible, closest horse 6 tiles away, no iron, closest coal 8 tiles away, closest city state 27 tiles away, closest civ 42 tiles away (Shaka). Over before I even got going lol.
I'd go next to the mountain too for obvious reasons, you can always get the third city further north.
Awesome idea Marb ! This is going to be tough :)
u can get second city near the mountain...which will give u river and observatory and all luxury resources..south of gems and east of deer
This is a really nice start, hopefully you will be able to surpass the AI's carpets of doom :)
This is going to be good.
The Jaguar won't become obsolete until you research Metal Casting, which I've only seen you research early (before Education, that is) once. You'll definitely be able to recruit a good number of them before then.
I would love to see your own 'War related religion'!
For example like "Just War".I don't remember all of them, sorry for that.
Thanks for the great LPs as always.
I wish there was a civ mod that brought some of the Dominions 4 characteristics over. If building a temple allowed you to blood sacrifice to spread your borders faster, it would be Aztec. Also jaguar warriors that turn into real jaguars when defeated.
So that's going to be China, Russia, the Ottomans, Napoleon, Germany, Carthage and the Huns...
Good thing they finally recognized Napoleon as a nation among every other. :)
amazing video marbozir i love you
