    Kirsten Dunst is incredible in this movie! The scene with Louis and the dolls blows be away, and "I'll put you in your coffin!" always gives me chills. Such an incredible performance from her, holding her own with those lengendary actors.
    Lestat thought he waa doing Louis a favor, since no one gave Lestat a choice when they changed him. Louis was bitter with Lestat, but Lestat only did what Louis said he wanted.

    AMAZING!
    Noboby ever gives that much attention to the music, specially to *Libera Me* , the opening theme! 🤩
    Just for that you have my like 👍
    The album was nominated for the *Academy Award* and the *Golden Globe Award* for *Best Original Score* , losing on both counts to the score of The Lion King.
    Interestingly, Elliot Goldenthal was not Neil Jordan’s first choice composer for the project. Originally, *George Fenton* , who had worked with Jordan on earlier films such as We’re No Angels, High Spirits and The Company of Wolves, was set to score the film, and was only replaced with Goldenthal a few weeks prior to the film’s opening by producer David Geffen, against Jordan’s wishes. Despite the tight timeframe and the unfortunate circumstances in which he was hired, Goldenthal responded with what I now recognize as one of the best and most ambitious scores of his career to date; an expansive, longing, darkly romantic epic which captures both the tormented nature of the central characters and the lush, opulent, classical society through which they move.

    This is a fantastic, stylishly made, visually excellent, and elegantly costumed Film; Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise/ Kirsten
    Dunst and Antonio Banderas all spark of each other and deliver some fine performances; The interview elicits the sense
    of deep loneliness/pain felt by Louis, at 200 years old, immortal, as those closest too him were lost; In flashback we see how
    Louis was made into a vampire by Lestat, his connection with Claudia; The supposed death of Lestat has consequences later
    on, resulting in death and revenge( no spoilers), and back to Louis's present and the interview;
    Through all this Emma is delivering an adroitly sincere/ fabulous and charming reaction, nobody but nobody can match Emma;
    In the round up to the Film, Emma's inner goodness shines through as she talks about some of the scenes in the Film and is
    deftly woven in; Emma could I please whisper politely that if you might want to do another Dracula film, one option to consider could
    be the Film, ' Bram Stoker's Dracula' made in 1992 and starring Gary Oldman/ Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins; A quick aside at
    this point Emma that might interest you is that the story of Dracula is said to have been at least in part inspired by a Castle in Aberdeenshire (Scotland),
    called Slain Castle which contains within it an unusual Octagonal shaped room which is said to have intrigued Bram Stoker; Lastly Emma you
    look dazzling in Blue and just get ever more stunningly beautiful each and every day. 🦅🥰😘😍💝🤟👏👍🙏🎶🎵🎶🎧🎙🍁💐🦅.

    @FeaturingRob Месяц назад +1

    Hey Emma...
    This is one of the best vampire movies ever made! One of my favorites. Your reaction was fun, as the story does not tend to go in the expected direction. The original novel the film is based on was one of my favorites in high school in the 1980s. Anne Rice created a huge world of vampires and witches that all cross at various times across 13 Vampire Chronicles and 3 Mayfair Witches novels. This was the first of the Vampire Chronicles, and while it focuses on Louis de Point du Lac (Brad Pitt), the rest of the novels focus on Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise).
    - At the center of the story is a real-life tragedy. Anne had been writing almost her whole life, but it was mainly a hobby. She married and had a daughter named Michele. Michele was a light in her parent's lives. Precocious, playful, and a beautiful child. Unfortunately, in 1970, at the age of 4, Michele was diagnosed with acute granulocytic leukemia. Michele died in 1972, shattering both Anne and Stan, Michele's father and Anne's husband. Anne had been playing around with this basic story of Interview for years, but something came together when Anne created the character of Claudia (Kirsten Dunst's character). In a way, Michele lived on in Claudia, the vampire child. Writing helped Anne in her grieving process. After many rejections, the novel was published in 1976. It eventually became a huge book, thanks to other novels in the series like The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief, and many others. Along the way, Anne and Stan had a son named Christopher, who is also a novelist in his own right, Anne's literary executor, and one of the producers behind 2 television series based on Anne's work, Interview With the Vampire (2 seasons) and The Mayfair Witches (1 season). Anne passed in 2022, surviving Stan by 20 years (who died in 2002).
    - Christian Slater's character of the Interviewer is not named in the film or the book and wasn't named until a later book in the series...but the character's name is Daniel Molloy. Originally, the role was going to be played by the late River Phoenix (Stand By Me, My Own Private Idaho, Young Indy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). Unfortunately, River died of a drug overdose 4 weeks before production at the age of 19. River's younger brother is Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix (The Joker, Walk the Line, Gladiator). Upon completion of the film, Christian Slater split his salary and donated it to two of River's favorite charities, and the film was dedicated to his memory.
    - Although Anne Rice has the sole screenwriting credit, the script was heavily rewritten by director Neil Jordan. Jordan was a recent Oscar darling for his film The Crying Game (1992), as he was nominated for Best Director and won Best Screenplay.
    - They tried to make a "sequel," but none of the same people were a part of it. Queen of the Damned was not a box-office success. It starred Stuart Townsend as Lestat and the late R&B singer Aaliyah as the title character, Akasha, Queen of the Vampires. At the time, Townsend was a mid-level Irish actor, probably best known as the boyfriend of Charlize Theron. Nowadays, he is best known for the movie he didn't make because he was let go for looking too young. He was the first actor cast to play Aragorn, son of Arathorn in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, and Viggo Mortenson replaced Townsend after two months of rehearsals and training, and maybe filming for a week.

The second was ‘The Vampire Lestat’, where we get to hear Lestat’s side of the story (along with his origin, and the origin of the theater of vampires) where he denies half of what Louis said. It was good to hear your empathy for Lestat, such a misunderstood character! Driven by loneliness, he made unfortunate choices, but he was funny and charismatic and never a dull moment when he was on screen. The costume design and world building for this film are amazing and a special nod to Stan Winston for the special effects, particularly the scene when Claudia cuts Lestats throat! I have to admit, I loved it at the end, when LEstat was driving... "Louise, Louise! Still Whining! I've had to listen to that for centuries!" 👏

    The great composer Elliot Goldenthal was still pretty naive to how quickly film scoring had to be eeitten. He said when Neil Jordan approached him to do this film, the exchange went something like -
    Goldenthal- “When do you need the score done?’
    Jordan- ‘July’
    Goldenthal - ‘ok, check back with me in a few months. I’ll discuss ideas’
    Jordan- ‘No…. THIS July’

    This movie introduced me to Antonio Banderas and made me a fan, but his performance as Armand had this almost feral energy that was captivating but was completely different from the cool "stillness" ascribed to the character in the book. Much of the movie was like that for me. I thought it was great, but it didn't match some things from the book which had left a lasting impression on me. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Some of the differences worked better cinematically - film is a visual medium and affects its audience differently than the printed word.

  • @DarthLoki
    @DarthLoki Месяц назад +4

    Claudia was played by a VERY young Kirsten Dunst, who has gone on to have a very prestigious career in film. It was her first role, and I remember the movie critics Siskel and Ebert reviewing this movie and making special note that she would be an amazing actress for years to come. They were so right!!!!
    There is a sequel, of sorts. The characters are completely recast and while the film itself is quite good... The late artist Aaliyah was the star who stole the show with both her acting chops and her exceptional beauty!... I didn't like it myself because it took a lot more liberties from the original book. Lestat is actually the hero of this series. He's not old, compared to others. He was around 40-50 years old when he created Louis. But he had been given the "dark gift" by a 300 year-old vampire named Magnus, which gave him a lot of power. Then in time he was given the blood from an ancient vampire named Marius, who was ~2000 years old. And shortly after that he drank from the FIRST vampire, the Queen of the Damned herself. That is why he was able to survive the attempted murders by Claudia and Louis and why his powers were so developed. Louis himself is considered one of the weakest of vampires, but even the most ancients come to love him for being able to keep his humanity.
    I would highly recommend reading the series, The Vampire Chronicles. Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen Of The Damned, The Tale Of The Body Thief, and especially Memnoch The Devil. Anne Rice was a storyteller that could convey so much of a character's inner emotion and turmoil with a way that made you both sympathetic and empathetic to them. She also wrote a series called The Mayfair Witches, which ultimately collides and crosses over with Lestat and The Vampire Chronicles. Both series have been turned into popular television series on AMC called the Immortal Universe. Alexandra Daddario stars in the Mayfair Witches series while Game of Thrones alumni Jacob Anderson plays as Louis and the incredible Sam Reid is amazing in his role as Lestat.
    Anne Rice also showed her talent for storytelling in other series. Under the pen name Anne Rampling she wrote several erotica titles including Exit To Eden. She briefly turned to Christianity and wrote a series called Christ The Lord. But no matter what genre she wrote in... erotica, intrigue, occult, religious, and cinematic screen writing she was a masterful storyteller that the world will miss!

He has always been good at bringing those kind of subtilties to his roles. Though he did have an advantage that his role allowed him a lot of range and stretching to show it off. But it sticks out to me because other characters feel both present and alive where he feels contrasting and off.

    Armand is also lying through his teeth when he says he's the oldest vampire he knows - he's nowhere near the oldest. It kind of depends where in the Vampire Chronicles you've got to as to who the oldest actually is though (it's never Armand).

    Good one. Loved🫶 the acting of Cruise & Pitt but the acting of Kirsten Dunst, playing little Claudia, really was something. It got to me.❤
    I know Claudia had an impact on you too Em. You must have commented on her situation 10 times. I think your motherly instincts were going crazy with poor Claudia's dilemma!
    Thnx Emma✌️🙂

    Emma, the TV series True Blood is vampire lore extended but I would recommend against reacting to it. It is very racy. Great fun though.

      The original novel is actually my favourite of the books, it feels different than the other books because it's told from Louis' perspective while most of the others are told from Lestat's perspective, either way I would say the first book is the best, but this is all just a matter of personal taste.
