Weird when you think this is just the standard for a lot of game making today, and yet the concept of a cinematic game was once treated as something that would never catch on.
Kojima is in a league of his own. The Kubrick of this medium. Naughty Dog created a very cinematic experience with Uncharted. The first Halo was a great cinematic experience. But both of those games are more gameplay focused. For Kojima’s games the story is the focus.
I finished it shortly after it came out 22 years ago. Shit was crazy and there was no social media back then to tell everyone your thoughts. I had no friends in high school and the only other gamers really just played Tetris and Madden and that's it. Games were seen as things for kids so I was scared to tell my classmates. Now at my job me and my coworkers have been talking about the RE4 remake and the upcoming Jedi Survivor.
@@starwindamada5313 RE4 Remake and Jedi Survivor were both great games. MGS2 was mind boggling. I remember back when I finished it as a teen I had been playing several hours and when I got to Arsenal Gear it really messed with my brain. I thought I was going crazy for a bit. No game ever replicated the insanity of that sequence since then (to my knowledge). What a great game, and now we are blessed with an upcoming MGS3 remake too.
@Manu I loved 2.but I was upset with the twist. All the trailers and box art made us think we were snake again and got tricked.I wanted another snake and Meryl adventure.but still loved 2.just wanted something different
The reason I love the game is because it's so unique, especially the Tanker mission, Snake Tales, and the Skateboarding minigame. I know the Raiden storyline can be annoying with the whole romance going on between Jack and Rose, however after Arsenal Gear activates the entire game gets dark and psychological. The colonel starts going crazy and he even tells you to turn off the PS2, the soundtrack starts to turn weird when you enter the area where all the Metal Gear Rays are stored. Experiencing those moments as a kid can never be topped. Period.
@@teamyordle23 Honestly I just finished this game recently. I was a huge fan of mgs5 and 3 and really liked how mgs4 looked so I decided to play mgs2 to understand 4's story and wow it isnt as great as 3 or 5, but I loved it. it was just quality. Didn't like the last boss fight though I really thought the blade mechanics were too unrefined but other than that game holds up incredibly well.

One of the greatest games ever made. Not my personal fave in the series, although it is the first one I ever finished (and unfortunately my first MGS game was VR Missions lol). Still, MGS1, 2, 3 and 4 are timeless. 5 is good in certain ways, but feels very disconnected compared to the other main games.

Understanding japanese i can say that the translations just imagine things up that Kojima never said, wtf...
damn, that makes me really sad ngl 😢
anything you wanna share with the class??
MGS2! For me the best game of the series, and therefore The Best Game In The World!!!

@João Dias I'd prefer his original mgs 2 story about Iraq and Iran he planned
I have watched this documentary thousands of times in the extra dvd of MGS2

This is incorrect,

He is talking about Metal Gear Rex not Ray.

Excellent documentary. Is there one for MGS3?
Imagine if we would of gotten the real final battle Kojima wanted
What would have been the real final battle???
If games had this today, it would be considered next gen. They don’t, and this was in 2001.

Does anyone know which action figure he is showing at 20:36?
starship troopers powered suit by sentinel
Kojima used Legos to create a setting, eh? I wonder what next, Lego sets of Metal Gear?
