Let me thank you, this video is a PERFECT compliment and honor for metal gear, hideo, and the fans. Bro, you had me completely immersed with everything, your execution, pacing, editing, your attention to detail is SUPERB. I have yet to find another metal gear fan video so in depth! The effort shows you've done your extensive research and digging. GREAT Job dude👍
I love this game series. Really makes me sad how Kojima dedicated his life to a company and got screwed by them. I'm happy that he got to achieve his dream of his own "movie" in MGS4, given it's extensive cut scenes and story.
Stelar story telling and video production. It is most unfortunate you have less than 3k at this time, however the quality of your content will be noticed and I have a strong feeling that will be very soon. Metal Gear Solid 1 was always my favorite game of all time, and despite all of the research I did on my own time you still managed to include interesting topics and content I've not come across yet. Cheers mate!
One of my all time favourite Games, finished it 4-5 times when i was 12. Made me fall in Love with story driven video Games. The Experience it gave me still unparalleld to this day.
I can't thank you enough how grateful I am for this documentary of my favorite game on PS1. I miss KCE japan because it was MGS team and Team Silent in Yebisu Garden Place, Tokyo, who started to make games for a global audience under Konami which Sony being supervisors on quality assurance check. The reason why many staff from KCE japan have joined Sony's Japan Studio over the years. Sony has good ties with those Konami devs. Toyama left KCE japan because he felt his confidence has faulted after Silent Hill 1. Takashi Mizutani, So Toyota and Tomokazu Fukushima left because they started to have issues with Kojima's working policies. Fukushima's writing style is my favorite. Same with Hiroyuki Owaku who wrote Silent Hill 2 and 3 and was also a programmer. Regarded Kojima's team I feel they had different opinions how to make a game. After MGS1 things started to get more shady on Kojima's part. He wanted the full control on cinematics Mizutani was in charge of. During the end of MGS3 development in 2004 Mizutani left Konami. Kojima took over cinematics since MGS4 and things took a different turn than what we are used to. Kojima's writing structure is different from Fukushima's. If we should actually compare them both we can do it with Metal Gear games without cooperation (mainline titles). Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake are different from Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel for GameBoy Color. MG and MG2SS are more straight forward and stereotype with cliches like in movies while Ghost Babel is more personalized. You get more engaged into the story and the characters in Ghost Babel. The direction Kojima wanted to take with MGS4 was disagreement with So Toyota and Tomokazu Fukushima. Both left in 2007. But truth to be told, MGS4 to Death Stranding stay true to the roots of MG and MG2SS how Kojima directed, designed and wrote games. If there are those people who enjoyed MGS trilogy and Ghost Babel more the current Kojima Productions is not their cup of tea. They should look somewhere else. Old Kojima Productions is gone and separated.
Great video. Metal Gear Solid is my favourite game, and I've read every English-language interview I could find about it, so I didn't really expect to learn much from this, but it was great to hear more about its technical construction and insight from KCEJ members besides Kojima and Shinkawa.
@@JordanHJ I know the long, slow grind to getting recognition can be discouraging, but I think your channel is going to blow up sooner rather than later. Keep it up, because the subject matter of in depth docs on some of the most iconic game franchises is bound to find its mark. The audience is already there, they just need to “discover” you. I find myself binging on your videos as well as “Wrestling With Gaming” (another creator who deserves more subs than he has IMO). Long story short: “If you build it, they will come” (eventually)
@@literallyshaking8019 Thank you! Over lockdown I've had to focus on my day job a lot so I haven't put out much, but I have a new video coming out over the next few weeks, and after that I hope to be fairly regular again. Jump on my discord if you feel like a chat!
A well-researched and produced video, thank you. MGS is an all-time classic game and is probably the best all-round game in the series (e.g. across story, tone, ingenuity, atmosphere). By the way, for the English-language version of MGS, Jeremy Blaustein did very important work in localising the game. Check out some interviews with him on RUclips for more details.
As a young gamer, Metal Gear Solid was at the top of my all time list due to its fantastic story. I recently purchased a PS2 I am currently playing through the original MGS for the first time in 15 years! Thankfully there is more information available today about the game. This video has been very informative, thank you! 😀👍
Bravo. As a big fan of all of the MG games I was really into this video. Put subtitles in there. Some of us Americans won’t be able to understand all of what you are saying.
Loved the first that made it on PS1 which made me want the PS2 for anticipation of the sequel. Thought that Sons of Liberty was too far out there and made no sense at all, but after playing part 3 and then my favorite Guns of the Patriot. I learned to respect the SoL a lot more
This game was great fun I really enjoyed the story line completed it 5 times a great character with great enemies yea it was a blast of fun on the PSOne
Ironic isn't it?. Today is Thursday 3rd September 2020. Metal Gear Solid came out on Thursday 3rd September 1998 - 22 years old today! Happy Birthday Metal Gear Solid! One of the best video games in history ever!!!!!
Which platform version of MSG1 is used in the b-roll? I just finished playing the PSN version on PS3 and the b-roll in this video is quite a bit sharper.
Hi, I used my original disc but emulated. It was just much easier for me to record from than my original playstation. I think I mention that in the video somewhere.

3:39 Hang on, lemme get this straight. You were able to crawl in 87's MSG 2 for MSX... But you weren't able to do so in ANY other sequels until MSG 4 on PS 3 some 20 years later?!
The new management team that ran off Kojima and gutted the games division, deserve special recognition for being the stupidest people in the games industry.

going for 100?

As a digital illustrator this shot surprised me, I did not know this degree of digital painting was already possible in the late 90's!
Yep!
Thank you for making this video, fascinating stuff and it really feels like you covered everything.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Kojima is definitely one of the few video game auteurs.
Thank you!

Awesome video! This game is arguably the best game ever made. It is a true masterpiece.
Thank you!
Another great "making of"! Really interesting stuff.
Thank you :)

Hey Jordan. This was really well done. Great research and delivery.

I think a lot of people feel that way, though I always loved MGS2
I miss when games had this much effort put into them
I think the issue with some games is direction rather than effort, game Devs do put in loads of time to their games
Wow, thanks :)

that was great i remember mgs

That's awesome. Can you do the same with MGS2, MGS3, MGS3, Peace Walker and MGSV?
Probably not all of them, but perhaps one of them!
@@JordanHJ Okay.
Yesss!!!!🙏😭👍
Im really curious where you found all of the concept art for the game?
Some of it was from an art book released called 'The Art of Metal Gear Solid'
I just wish Kojima makes another MGS kind of game 🙏
Think that ship has sailed unfortunately
Is that a Trainspotting promo on the desk at 7.46?
Hard to tell but it's possible

Kept you waiting, huh?
Otacon was first supposed to be a fat man? Is that how Jimmy in Ghost Babel was born?
It's possible, though I don't know for sure
The bandana of snake does not have that long tail thing .
Not in the game model no

I prefer the spundtrack in MGS by the Japanese composers instead of the Harry Gregson-Williams soundtracks for 2-4. Those are inferior to MGS1998
