  • With exclusive behind-the-scenes access to legendary game creator Hideo Kojima's new studio, Newsbeat shows the making of Death Stranding - the first game from Kojima Productions in Tokyo.
    Hideo Kojima is one of the industry’s most famous and influential characters, described as the Spielberg of gaming.
    Our cameras follow Hideo Kojima in the final days of Death Stranding's production.
    It’s a science fiction title that Kojima tells us was made as a reaction to Donald Trump and Brexit.
    He claims it could change how players from across the world interact in future, and the gaming community is hoping for something truly innovative.
    Filmed over three days at the studio - this world exclusive documentary gains a unique insight into the unorthodox methods of one of gaming most successful people, finds out more about the influences shaping this mysterious game and ahead of its release and asks - can it really live up to the hype surrounding it?

    "This game is not for everyone".
    Good.
    Kojima has the balls to make a game that is artistic, deep, philosophical and slow. It encourages travel and patience. My kind of game, to be honest. It deserves the full support, unlike the commercial recycled bs they keep making elsewhere.

People need to stop with this nitpicky over generalizations of his games it’s so fucking stupid. And yes I’m a HUGE fan of his and his work and I can appreciate that work and all that him and his teams have put into them. People are so damn ungrateful. I mean if you don’t like his games fine and I’m not just pointing at you but people shouldn’t minimize his efforts into “he pretty much makes movies” it’s bullshit. It takes so much more to make a game let alone a Kojima game than a damn movie. When was the last time it took 3 1/2 years to make a movie? Like actually make from start to finish, not pre-production, scripting, filming schedules days on/off, film hiatus, Green light delay or collecting dust on a shelf. Those last three things are the only thing that would cause a movie to take that long to come out but it’s not steady work and effort.

      That's cuz he's passionate and cares about his games. Especially this one. People just want another ghost recon Breakpoint and once they get that, they complain it's bland lazy and boring. Then they get a deep immersive story driven strategic gameplay game such as this and swear it's boring and doesn't have action. Anbody that thinks like that shouldn't be playing games. Or doing anything if they clearly cannot see that 4 years of this man's hard work isn't gonna pay off. And that he put so much passion and love into this game. They don't know what gaming is. Glad to see so much love on this comment section toward this great team and their benevolent leader. Can't wait man. I really fucking can't. The 8th is a few days away.

    • @demon3203
      @demon3203 4 года назад

      I agree 100%. As a triple A budget studio/company you have all the liberties to push the envelope and create new things and ideas never before seen in video games. Currently most AAA studios are in it not for passion, but they see that there is a lot of money to be had in the gaming space and its relatively easy, because you just need to recycle ideas with some small changes or twists and you can easily have a successful game. So i absolutely applaud Kojima and everyone else that has worked on this game for creating something different and obviously have a great passion for the game. Its truly shows how everyone working on this viewed this game like an artist might view their painting. Or someone that sculpts views their sculptures. It really goes deeper then just pixels on a screen. The story has loads of meaning behind that goes deeper then face value. Not to mention the game actually looks beautiful. Never thought i would look at mountains, rivers and open grassy plains in a video game and go "wow!". This game really has it all and its a very very nice change of pace to what is normally the fast pace competitive action games out there. Sure i like those games too, but its nice to be able to play a game that is not only interesting and engaging to play, but has the story telling of a book as well.

    Japanese communication is so subtle. I love watching the interactions at Hideo Kojima’s studio. He is very direct but speaks gently, and his employees seem to be very empathetic and also very polite and introspective as well. Its different to the hustle and bustle of other Japanese city life documentaries. Things feel more stoic and cold. Whereas there is a warmth here despite the hard work ethic.

    I actually teared up at the end of this video when the credits rolled, the amazing song from CHVRCHES played and Kojima was shown smiling, happy and successful.
    He deserves every single praise he gets for his work. He inspires me even when I haven't played a lot of his games. But the ones I played have a special place in my heart.
    If making a game that is about connections and spreading love through likes doesn't show you how big Kojima's heart is and how much he cares about showing what it means to be human, I don't know what does. He's one of a handful of people who inspire me to create meaningful, emotional and human games in the future.
    Thank you for everything, Kojima-San! +1000 likes received from me!

It's like a bunch of crabs in a bucket just trying their best to drag you back down. Hideo Kojima I don't know the guy personally but I can acknowledge someone who's a innovator and tries to take chances. Honestly hope this legend will continue to push the genre forward in anything he puts his mind to. Generally, Japanese games are special, unique, intelligent, thought provoking, and very detailed. I.e. Lunar, Valkyrie Profile, Soulsborne, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Saga, Mana, Star Ocean, Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre, Tales of, ho fo sho.
      American games are stupid, boring, half assed, large, empty, void of meaning and emotion. I.e. Doom, Halo, CoD, GTA, sports games, shit like that.

    I adored this game. It was such a wholesome experience, I genuinely felt like I was helping to reconnect a broken world. This is the first Kojima game I’ve played and I have immense respect for kojima after playing this game. I never thought you could make the act of getting from point A to point B through primarily walking so rewarding and engaging. Both on a physical and emotional level. The combat segments with bosses were always awesome. While not mechanically engaging they were visual spectacles and I honestly enjoyed it because of that. Not to say I don’t enjoy a challenge because I very much do but I enjoyed this for what it was. I love the idea of building connections and the fact that everything you build will not only make your journey but others journeys easier, it truly is a beautiful thing that had me hooked and made the experience as a whole very refreshing and rewarding. I loved this game man, I’d give metal gear a try but I’ve never been into stealth games, I’m stoked to see what kojima does next. I’m definitely intrigued to see what else this man can do!

    • @Sev3617
      @Sev3617 3 года назад

      Though one criticism I have about the game is that there isn’t any reason to explore tbh. There’s very VERY few places to actually see or go to, I wish there was huge destroyed cities and ghost towns you could explore. There are two and while those areas are awesome they’re very small and not a whole lot to see. I love the world of death stranding but when you’re not doing the story outside of radiant delivery quests there’s nothing to see or do except raid mule bases for resources to build roads and what not. I would just love more places to explore.

  • @Loveilis

    Can only ask ourselves: "Is this the direction Metal Gear or P.T were headed?"
    I always saw Sam's words or anyone's words as Hideo Kojima talking to us in-game and in reality: "I deliver packages-- You must reconnect the world-- we are all included--" Why would anyone stop A series such like Metal Gear? It had A lot of awareness to offer, but did that become A problem? Was MGS 6's story line surrounded by things like A dying presidency and America in pieces? I like to think since Hideo put MGS easter eggs in this game, he is speaking to the fans of MGS and P.T through this game. Whereas MGS and P.T were both discontinued, we got Death Stranding: The political, positive enforcing, horror, beautiful battlefield game starring Norman Reedus. Thanks again Kojima Productions for giving us what we have been waiting for and for not stopping doing what you originally set out to do.
