Amazxing review ! Got em myself and use em for friends visiting, takes em 5 min and they have legs in vrchat. Super nice entry FBT for the industry ^^ This is just the beginning !
From using it right out of the box the tracking seemed great to me only problem is selection in standalone store to really test it. It’s mind blowing as this is probably on par with what it costs to make your own maybe just a little more expensive but it is like half the price of the next cheapest fbt option which is slimevr. I feel the issues are totally acceptable for the fraction of cost of alternatives to closest comparison is Sony mocopi which is 4 times to cost and I’m sure a lot harder to acquire probably worse tracking too though more points of tracking
Moving virtual legs is, of course, fun, but all other trackers can do that. The unique feature of these trackers lies in their ability to connect external devices and track objects, like a mug in VRChat. However, other trackers can handle a mug as well. Feedback can allow for tracking something like a full-fledged electric guitar with all its functionality. It would be interesting to see a review specifically of this feature, rather than another person kicking a ball in virtual reality. If you know any specialists in this area, an interview with them would be very useful.
Unfortunately, object tracking is still not natively supported by VRChat. From a technical point of view, You should be able to do that with all "light tracked trackers" so vive (including ultimate), tundra and theoretically pico trackers too. The thing is that You need to get that data to VRC somehow and since it's not a native thing You need to add it to Your avatar first, send OSC data, make a script and do something with for example a mug. That still sounds very DIY. (I'm also not sure if Pico even allows object tracking via pico connect, would need to check that, because its possible that object tracking works only with specific apps - but I'm not sure about it)
@@RichardVirgosky I'm still just trying to figure this out myself. I agree that in VRChat, it needs to be done at the avatar level. Tracking objects like a mug, a bottle, or a skateboard with an attached tracker has already been seen from ChrisQuitsReality, as well as feedback devices like vibro pads. The question is that feedback support in the PICO motion tracker has been announced, and in the documentation, there are code examples on how to poll external devices from Unity. However, I haven't yet found how to connect external devices to the tracker via USB. And how to create an external device yourself.
Yeah, I heard about that from beta testers, they mentioned that it'll be possible to connect something via usb-c to the tracker, Imo it'll be only used in the future by some custom addons for specific standalone games/apps, but still should be possible to somehow connect it to VRC, even if there's no access to that data through Pico Connect (You can stream data by background worker on pico to Your PC). In general very DIY thing, if You have he knowledge and like tinkering, go for it! Good luck ^^
most people probably won't be using the "Object tracking" mode atm, but it can also be used to track objects for example i'm using the SDK to track my badminton racket, for a badminton app hopefully more devs will use it for object tracking. I can think of a few use cases.. like in VAM lol.
Exactly, object tracking won't be as popular but cool that it exist, also if I'm correct Pico released some new tools for developers, that's definitely the right direction 👌 hopefully more apps in the future! 😍
Thank you for making this video! Im hoping to get a set for myself too, but i have one question, my pc struggles to connect to pico connect (they just cant seem to connect with each other) so i went back to streaming assisant, would the pico motion trackers still work if i use that instead of pico connect?
+10h of testing and no such problem, but I'll probably test it even more during the week, maybe with different surroundings? Stuff like that can be related to floor type, reflections, light etc. Will probably upload some shorts with more examples of tracking soon ;)
Amazing review, finally a good in depth review, all those other reviews are just clips of people using them and saying "yeah they work" yeah thanks wow. Especially those comparisons were amazing and helpful Whats the best way to attach a third tracker? Does it need to be inserted into the socket or do they work when theyre taped to a belt?
Tbh I just attached default strap to leather belt and it worked just fine. Default strap is detachable, but that will only make it harder because there'll be no spot to connect it with new strap (custom mounting socket) so best way is just default strap to any belt or custom strap and some good tape 😉
@ i already have and dance with slimes, been doing for almost 3 years, and am thinking if the Pico trackers would be a nice upgrade to my mix. Thank you for the Review
I just got myself the pair of trackers from Amazon, now I wonder tho, where do I get the single tracker with the waist band from? Or did you guys just buy a second pair and diy it
@@RichardVirgosky thanks! did they say anything about maybe making it possible to use one day more then 3 tracker? Or do you know a page where you can buy the trackers individually? I can’t really afford to spend 50 bucks on a tracker I won’t be using tbh
No information about more than 3 trackers, sadly. I'm suggesting You to find someone with pico trackers and maybe buy set of 2, one for You and one for Your friend, that's the only option.
@@RichardVirgosky sadly doesn’t work for me *since no friends* but thanks! I think I’ll check from now on if someone else sells a single tracker on eBay.
The link you provided for purchase is a two pack. Did you buy two of them in order for you to have two feet and a waist? Or did you find another one somewhere where you can buy just a single tracker. If you bought two two packs what did you do with the fourth tracker?
Very helpful video!! Just one question, I'm still very new to this whole VR world, still figuring out everything bout my own Pico 4- and I was wondering if Vive trackers 3.0 are easy to use and setup with Pico 4? I'm thinking bout getting 3 of those for Xmas lol- sorry if it's a stupid question :')
Not extremely hard but also not very easy, You need to install additional software and calibrate it each time You're playing. Read more about: "OVR Space Calibrator". Don't forget that You also need base stations 😉
Sorry, I don't understand one thing. Can foot trackers also be used for hips and other parts of the body or is there a specific type of tracker for hips?
pico shilling? :D not showing any of hundreds of issues and just talking about about waiting for future software updates... Like hip tracker currently makes your body float and adds crazy drift not even lasting 2 minutes before the chest/hip starts to turn. AI tracking adds lag which makes playing dance dash on higher levels not possible and overall drains headsets battery so much faster.
Oooo I knew Your nickname looked familiar! So I saw the short with losing tracking and when not in short range and some other issues. But tbh? Had no issues like that, You can see in the comparison 2 vs 3 trackers that while testing, the tracking looked really good. I actually mentioned firmware updated because just before I started my testing, update popped up on my screen, so maybe they fixed some issues You mentioned? Hard to say. Also "Pico shilling"? I understand that my video shows the product in very positive light, but cmon... paid positive reviews are the worst thing that can happen to VR industry, I'm not like (I won't say who, but many BIG VTubers) who takes money for showing VR products and they call it a "review"... they should call it "advertising material"...
@@RichardVirgosky lets say you kick with a right leg but your left one floats around at the same time. You move one leg sitting but your whole body floats around. Chest drift happens only with the hip tracker, I did not have this issues using DK or only two new 2.0 trackers.. but putting a third one causes more issues than solves tracking problems of using just two trackers.. probably why Pico does not even sell the third tracker officially. I have some videos on my channel already but will put a 3 tracker setup video next week. Tracking is really bad, especially for 180 eur that two sets sells now.
I mentioned in the video that waist tracker isn't perfect, but it looks better than 2 trackers, especially the rotation, I heard from one of beta testers that maybe in the future there'll be set of 3 trackers available officially. The issue with chest tracker? The estimated trackers are in general meh... that's why I mentioned in the video that it worked best for me with only physical trackers enabled and fully estimated disabled.

Happy to hear that! Thank You! ❤️
Love your take on the pico motion tracker......and FINALLY a good use for my pico neo 3 pro i bought on impulse
Thanks for your in depth impartial review. This was very helpful for me.
Thanks for the review ! I think its what i'm looking for, casual, simple, affordable "full" body tracking. Let's go :)

What waistband do you reccomend?
Simple leather belt ^^

All trackers are the same, You can place it on Your feet or hips, can't be used kn different body parts.
@@RichardVirgosky Thx
So you could for example, get 2 sets of these trackers and put two on your feet and one on your waist and chest?
I mentioned in the video and in previous comment, only feet and hips, can't use it on Your chest.

God knows 🤣
