    I got my SlimeVR trackers last week! And yes, there's a bit of a learning curve with getting them placed correctly on your body and getting the calibration done. But coming from someone who can't really afford lighthouse based tracking, the more I use them the more I absolutely love them! The community discord server is a big help in figuring out issues

    Coming from lighthouse tracking and still having my trusty vive trackers - the Vive trackers are a solid 9/10 while the Slime are ranging between 6/10 to 8/10 tracking. They have a learning curve and you need to work those things out.. but being able to have a blanket or just to lie on to of someone without standing up and shifting my trackers.. it's amazing! I came from phones as well! Definitely recommend building a pcb set with BNO if you can afford them, sooo much easier to build and more reliable.
      Ive used shitty wires so I've had 2-3 failures over the last 1,500hrs. Just built a new pcb BNO set and moving to nicer wire with strain relief to help protect the connections as I prefer a tiny little imu on my hip and feet over a full tracker even if I have to occasionally fix it ^^

    I wanna add that there's a VR tracker done via webcam with RTX cards, if you have one you can use it as elbow tracking which is the only thing that works reliably on my experience, and you save yourself a couple bucks

      oh really? what's it called?

      @MooshPaw 3 месяца назад

      @@bazzyowo Should be called Nvidia Body Tracking, it's a gihub
      This said by the time this video came out and now, quest has released their shoulder tracking which is way better, and virtual desktop uses it, so if you have a quest 3 it's a no brainer, if you have a quest 2, even though it doesn't actually track the elbows, the locomotion is much better with it
      You could still use the RTX One if you really want elbow tracking, or if you have a ton on space and good camera then probably full body works as well, but for the average person it's hard to get a good angle for full body tracking

    One small QOL thing to do is setting YawReset(Fast reset) and Reset (full reset) to a button key i have mine on the Y button and all you need to do is press it to reset the drift so much easier than double tapping the tracker

    • @Snitchie
      @Snitchie 5 месяцев назад +2

      This is a must. Takes one second to press a button and drift is gone vs physically tap on your body.

    • @BerryTheBnnuy
      @BerryTheBnnuy 3 месяца назад

      The drift is due to cheap parts. Specifically BNI IMUs. The BNI IMU costs $1 per IMU, but BNO costs $10 a piece. The cheaper Slime Trackers all have BNIs and they will always drift. BNOs do not or at least should not drift.

    • @Snitchie
      @Snitchie 3 месяца назад

      @@BerryTheBnnuy BNO also drift eventually. So a reset yaw is needed. If you move fast and dance with bno's still need to reset. but they are better when standing still then bmi for sure. Much better! But then again cant jump with BNO and you can with BMI.. so what poison do you want? I go with BMI legs and BNO upper body ;)

    I suspect that as IMU's work forward they might actually replace light houses entirely, if only because of how much of a problem occlusion is, but also because of the significant quality increase over time. the extension cables are such a pain to deal with. ive made my own trackers, and even then. the thing that's holding them in place is the solder ― the lead. that's why you almost like need to make an anchor point on the silicone insulation of the wire, and attach that to the tracker case. like stitching them together ― otherwise the tension sits on the solder connection.

    I got my slimes a few weeks ago, and went with the full-body 7+3 kit. Very glad I did, though 2 of the core slime units BLOD'd, so I'm only using 5+3 for now while I wait for warranty to contact me about sending me 2 new ones. Calibration is something you kinda work towards, but it'll never be 100% perfect, and yeah, drift happens over time, but resetting it isn't difficult, and I only need to do it if I feel off. At worst, I'd have to do an i-pose then crouched pose to do the full and mounting resets if the trackers somehow moved. I don't need to do the body proportion dance again as far as I'm aware... not that I mind... nvm probably have to do it again when I get my replacement slimes.

    • @BerryTheBnnuy
      @BerryTheBnnuy 3 месяца назад

      If you're having drift problems, your IMUs are cheap. BNI costs $1 a board. BNO costs $10 a board. The cheaper slime trackers and even some of the more expensive ones use BNI. This is why I made my own. To be sure I got the right components.

      I ordered the components and they got to me in less than a month. I had to solder it all myself and it helps to have a 3d printer to make my own cases, but yeah...

    The delivery time is the main reason why I haven't ordered these yet. I would like to get the full set which gets pretty pricy. If I'd than also have to wait at least half a year for them to deliver it (I've heard about others waiting for longer than a year due to delays) feels like throwing a lot of money into a bottomless pit and than praying something will come back out of that pit at some point.

    TAHVO SUIT BEANS?
    Also interesting that they're open source. So in technical sense they can be made by someone who specialized in 3d printing and programming (bypassing the nonsense customs tax)

    would just like to say if you do have a headset with lighthouses these are not worth it just buy the vive ones they a few extra dollars for better more consistant tracking with no ''drifting''

    I've found the slimes to be hit or miss. Mainly in that, even if you do get production ones, they still have a litany of little issues that take a lot of time and configuration to solve.
    They work, but you get what you pay for. There's kind of a reason the lighthouse solution is so expensive. You put them on, calibrate, and then you're set. Same can not be said if you use slimes.
    I will say though, the 16 trackers for $560 feels like a rip off when you can make the same thing for less than $200 yourself.
