Sony's Mocapi has FINALLY launched outside of Japan.. and these are VERY interesting. Without a doubt the absolute easiest full body tracking setup I have ever used with seemless quest and quest 2 compatibility- plus a ton of other features.. but are they actually good? We're gonna explore that.

For the MoSlime if you run windows you can set up WSL
c'mon, do a review of Wizdish ROVR.
Enthusiasts might be a little bit let down by this I guess, but this is the start of accessibility for full body tracking. This is huge IMO. We're really really close to mainstream virtual words.
*IMU -in my upinion
SlimeVR though. Cheaper and you don't have to fear that the support is dropped over night.
wrong
@@germanmosca Honestly I had never heard of them, while I've seen these a lot over the news and social media. I guess the fact that Sony is behind this is helping them reach the mainstream a little bit more. Going to look into SlimeVR though.
yeah the only thing holding us back so far is oculus and epic dropping the ball on the vr industry. thats why the games are all such poor quality they support only mobile render pipeline EVEN FOR DESKTOP its total crap vr has been cast aside as some afterthought or some little side feature to a main game. and for this reason the cycle continues. no eye catching vr games nobody wants to play. since theres no eye catchy vr games vr sales are staying low. since sales are staying low due to xbox 360 level graphics support vr market is seen as not viable. oculus has done NOTHING for the vr industry since meta took over. their branch on unreal engine is multiple engine versions behind and even those versions are still delayed for months when they come out nothing new has been added and in fact its entirely unusable for anything. its full of new bugs no fixes and i honestly don't understand it's reason for existing at all. epic is taking ages to implement any needed features for vr like lumen nanite and nvidia's frame generation and dlss finally got added after ages but i hear only some things of that support vr. vr will not become what it fully could be for another few years at least. we need dlss and frame generation and nanite and lumen all working together in vr if we want ready player one style graphics. i think more developers also should adopt daz3d models or similar quality to increase longevity of the project's content releases and have a nice pool of artists to try to contact for more work to be made. daz3d is a constantly stacking system. that means that you can take a genesis 1 2 3 8 9 any number and use fitting tools to fit them to the other models so that as the game gets older you don't have to gut the entire system out to add some new uplifts like sick clothes or weapons from the new genesis series. i personally have spent thousands on daz3d and ill be producing a vr game soon with it. think imvu meets vr chat but everything is free for clothing and its basically a giant arcade with every game mode i can pack into it.
VR technology has come so far, it's absolutely insane how accessible it's getting.
i know right? the problem is, tech will get so crazy that its as if you're living in a new world. the real world would not be payed attention too.
Yep
Exactly... no jk I didn't think about that but you're right
$449 is accessible these days?
@@Jdogrey1 Yes, comparing to not havinng the product at all to no one; I'd say it's more accessible.
Such a tiny little box to store and charge them all is insane. Wow
that is cool wish vive had something like that
FINALLY I've been waiting for these! Can't wait to see if they are trash or not 😆 Edit- Damn I have to say the ability to charge in the case is super nice, my charging station is a mess with everything plugged in. Tracking quality looks like a deal breaker but the fact that it can be fixed with the slime thing kind of shows it's a software thing so hopefully Sony can get it performing better because they do look pretty cool!
They pretty dec
For me the deal breaker is Sony itself. My Experience with Sony makes me question for how long they gonna support this before dropping it and removing the apps.
They’re so bad honestly, I wouldn’t waste my own money on this until it’s as good as htc Vive trackers.
if you dont have iphone the tracking is trash
@@xunovrthat’s a pretty big hope for IMU trackers to be compared to
Doing VTuber stuff, great product! For VR, I think Sony wasn't anticipating the VR community to get ahold of these. It's a good thing they have! Buuut.... yeah, it's gonna take some time for them to discuss doing that. Plus, with Cover Corp (hololive Production) backing it, they don't do too much VR stuff, it would only help a handful of their current talents. I would love to see more hololive VTubers get into VR! One day!
I think they were expecting the VR community to get a hold of them. VRC Tweeted about working with them and having OSC support out of the box. It's the main reason I'm surprised and disappointed that it seems to be the worst feature about them.
I think they weren't designed for that. They tried to retrofit VR into it. Tracking ≠ motion capture, and these are clearly designed with game engines in mind. It was so easy to make them act like slimes that some random dude did it already, but clearly, Sony didn't even try. Great product for just motion capture, though. Usually, it's $1000s.
What do you mean? VR seems to be pretty common in hololive nowadays. I think Ame mentioned on stream very recently she was using Mocopi for FBT right there
@@sexy_awesome_woman Didn't know about that actually! I hadn't been able to keep up with it super often lately, but that's actually super cool if she did! Thanks for the info!
@@sexy_awesome_womanMocopi and all gyroscopic tracking system get one major problem named : Drift..
Really hope one day, someone get the idea to combine lighthouse and gyroscopic tracking in a same device
I’m jealous of the charging cradle and the easy set up, but otherwise I’ll give it a pass
we love that you showcased how SlimeVR open source ecosystem is awesome because people can make stuff like this ❤
:0 the slimes have come out of their cave to grace us with their presence
Awesome stuff just bought one I wish I could get it now!
It'd be awesome if they see this video and implement your feedback. It does have a lot of potential and a lot done right, having the slime translation as a feature of them would make it worthwhile for a lot of consumers.
Been looking at these for a while! Seemed a little skeptical at first, but I’m glad that these trackers are working and finally getting shipped to the US. This form of full-body tracking is really interesting and the fact that you can use these for multiple functions makes it very useful and surprisingly affordable for what it is, I’m hoping to see more updates for the software later on so that we can have better tracking for those who want to use this standalone for other applications
I ordered Haritora Wireless recently but i was super hesitant because i didn't know if Mocapi was going to be better or worse as an IMU tracker for VRChat. I'm relieved with my decision but i'm kinda sad that Sony didn't live up to VR expectations right off the bat. I have high hopes for improvement with MoSlime in the future though! This is a big step with big brands coming into the market after all.
Wow this is so cool! The vid covered pretty much everything I was curious about and more, and I really appreciated the long segment about Moslime and weighing of the pros and cons at the end. Great vid!
I appreciate that Sony made these but I’m a backer of Slime trackers and I’ll back them before I back a big corporation that charges too much for trackers! Thank you for also being so honest! Mad respect!
Let me know when you actually get them and how they are after owning them for a year+ I know they're shipping out soon but seeing everything take ages without knowing how the actual product is for a normal consumer thats not gifted one. If everything goes smoothly afterwards I'd rather support them but until then I'll hold off entirely.
I use Vive 2.0 trackers myself, but a couple months back a friend who doesn't have base stations was looking to get full-body for VR and they asked me what I would recommend. They are quite tight on money, and they spend a lot of time in VR socialising and hugging friends, so I quickly became focused on IMU based tracking for the lower costs and convenience of not needing Line-of-sight. After doing some research into SlimeVR, Mocopi, and Haritora X, I came across videos that suggested that Mocopi was very poor quality by comparison to the other two, due to poor tracking accuracy, delay, and drift, dependency on a phone, and supposedly needing to recalibrate out of VR.
I ended up recommending they get Slime as it was the most cost effective option, and seemed to have the best quality tracking out of all IMU options, and the easiest setup. This video confirms what I had thought, and increases my confidence that I made the right choice in recommending Slime to them.
One day when I upgrade from Vive 2.0, I'll either get Tundras, or Slime, or both if money's permitting, or the Vive inside-out trackers. Though there may be new solutions on the market by then.
Very cool video, fantastic work at getting it all working! ngl I was surprised to see myself in there too lol, very much looking forward to seeing your SlimeVR review now!
love your videos, just the way you present information is perfect
So excited for full body tracking to be made easy, accurate, and accessible. It doesn't seem too far away anymore.
Edit: this is the most mediocre comment. I don't deserve over 100 likes. 😭
they're 449 USD, i wouldn't call that accessible to most people
@@zadianvwhgamingstill cheaper and more accessible than normal fbt
@@ashykins true
@@PorterCrow why is leg tracking 500 dollars lol
@@zadianvwhgamingyeah, I see these being called accesable and affordable, but in what world? 449$ is a load of money for an a silly addon to an already expensive hobby
Top-notch, real-world use review, mate. Well done, and thanks.
I love that I saw this within first 10 mins such a good video
Wow, two videos in one week, amazing, great work, also it’s amazing how accessible fbt has become!
I’m pretty excited to where the vr and fbt community is going. It’s awesome to see how small and affordable some trackers are, and I can say that these definitely will be the future of vtubing. I’ve just bought myself some slime trackers in June and I can’t wait to see how everything will progress when I get them in December. I definitely think some cool things will happen before then. Thanks for another informative and exciting video.
I waiting for on your take on this. Thanks for being thorough. Hope they keep improving it.
Thank you for mentioning this supports VRM! So many places mentioned it supported custom avatars but never said what format. You just sold me on a set!
Very comprehensive review like always!!! 👍
Finally, something note worthy for mocap. I'd totally use this for character mocap and animation, all we need now is finger tracking. Mocap all sorts of cool animations with it. Still, pretty cool, even if it may not be as good as cheaper options, to me, ease of use and practicality is important, really liking this, and android support, nice!
There's some finger tracking gloves out there, and lucid gloves, an open source project to make your own.
Not really. He just said it's crap with a small side of crap. There's doing it right, then there's doing it inexpensive, and then there's doing it cheap. Mocopi is doing it cheap. Cheap is bad.
I really like the slow fade in of the outro music! It's getting better and better!
DUDE FINALLY! I've been be waiting so long to get my hands on these!
I really need to get into FBT. Was so hopeful for these 🥺
I need to try this Factor meal since you plugged them and I trust what you say~ good job!
It looks so pretty! Definitely the cutest option! 😍
Yeah Mocopi needs a major software update for the vr stuff
Don't hold your breath, without a PC app there is 0 way for Mocopi to interact with steamVR and get the headset tracking data, same for the quest, no quest app, no tracking data
It seems it’s wasn’t made for VR at all, just for mocap. A major boon to those animating at home, but for VR chat no.
the price is absurdly expensive for general consumers
tracking your legs shouldn't cost more than a whole quest 2
@xxxod it literally makes no sense why they are this expensive, literal joycons have a limited version of what these are offering, now imagine if instead of selling 2 joycons for 50, you instead sold 5 and took out joysticks, buttons, IR sensor, and NFC sensor, those 5 would be like 100 dollars, there's literally no reason these things cost this much.
This is definitely a step in the right direction and from what I have seen, this is one of, if not the only option for full body tracking for standalone vr users.
I play on quest 2 stand-alone and I’ve been waiting for these. Only option I have that wouldn’t need a pc. Probably gonna pick it up because the combined cost of a pc and any other trackers would be so much more. Just hope it gets some love in updates from Sony
Love this take. I also got an early copy. Totally agree with your thoughts here. If you want the versatility, it’s a good value.
Great breakdown!! Thanks! 👍👍👍
Looking forward to you trying/reviewing SlimeVR with a Review Set ^^
Thank you as always, a year later this is a super useful review.
All we need is for them to update the app to have better tracking
I can definitely see the formfactor and charging case of these inspiring some forks or adjustments of the slime trackers since they're open source anyway
It's a HUGE step in a good direction, it might have the MK1 product edition curse but I have no doubt it will end up a highly refined and viable option very soon!
about the linux - i recently had to do a heap of linux from absolutely 0 experience (not for trackers, something else). It was super frustrating at first but it gets easier very quickly, don't let a little linux put you off. Learning how to use linux even at a very base level is honestly pretty helpful, opens a lot of other doors for neat projects.
Thank you for this!
I DON'T mean this as any sort of slight just wanna say you're lucky as HELL man. You definitely work for it but seeing all your tech in this one video is just like.. Holy shit. I wish I had the money and free time to just dive into to EVERYTHING VR. I've got a Q2, a decent PC for VR. A full Flight Sim rig and a few Q2 accessories that I've made myself. That's a lot for me.
It’s not even expensive to do this, these trackers are a couple hundred bucks. Anyone with a normal job can afford this
@@MatthewKanwisherhe wasn't talking about this video specifically but everything Thrillseeker gets to do and participate in.
Giga respect for using the Pico 4 in this video. It makes me so happy ^.^
So close, but so far! It really would be nice if this had better support for VR. I really appreciate that the app supports the VRM format, which I think should be used as a universal format for avatars and the fact that it's not supported by the top VR social platform VRChat is crazy. Progress is being made, but slowly.
I'm thrilled about this.
I've been wanting to get these since Shiftall doesn't ship their Haritorax to Canada. Kind of a shame it's a little drifty, guess the CV1 setup will be with me for a bit. I am glad that FBT only goes forward as time marches on though, we're not far off from making it an accessible technology for everyone.
Wonder if this could be used in the sports sector? Would be awesome to use this to get an objective tracking of movement.
These are really cool, may or may not pick them up, but it's kind of ironic how this will not work with PSVR 2 despite being a Sony product. Great Video.
I think once the software gets better these will start a great trend for this type of technolgy its exciting hopefully there be more companies that do something like this and who know sinan year or 2 everyone will have these in the vr community.
Think I'll just keep waiting for the new Vive trackers, I think those are going to change the industry a good bit and usher in some new tech. Great video either way, love all the work you put into explaining all of this. Cheers
I'd really like to see an update video in the future, because i think that these will greatly improve in tracking quality with software updates
I’m quite expect full of its future !
I personally don’t care too much about full body tracking and aren’t purchasing any but I still was kind waiting for this full body tracking since it actually look cool
zucc already figured how to track fingers using cheap cameras, whats so hard to track full body using base stations 3.0 and have no need to attach anything to body?
You can already do full body by using multiple Xbox Kinect cameras.
It'd be cool tho if base stations simply scan/capture body movement, rather than relying on trackers that are attached to you.
I'm gonna use these for mocap.
Thanks for the video as always. VR is going the right way, making it easier, smoother, without a room set up. I hope mocopi will be able to update.
One thing that trigger me : your super Steam Deck, nomad computer set up !! Could you tell us more about it ? How to make good nomad VR ?
Hmm for making game animation this is pretty cool. I'm really bad at frame by frame animation and often have to rely on pre-made stuff for my projects. Might be a good fit
I saw in your other video that you have a qpro with a tracker mounted on it, if you needed a video idea i think that showing off space calibrator and continuous calibration would be good and would inform a lot of quest users that its an option (and a good one). i run a qpro with tundra tracker on it and its been fantastic
i cant wait to see wifi based tracking to develop more as it already come along way
Going to probably get it for motion capture and vr
I got to admit that I was pretty excited when I first heard (I believe from you, Thrill) about Mocopi, because it looked like we are getting a fleshed out product from a big brand, that wont make an user go through tedious and somewhat difficult task of getting standard FBT setup to work. I also watched your videos about Slime and that was the impression: I have to buy hardware for 300$ and then spend hours setting it up and every time I want to use it I have to get through a long process of calibration. This kind of messy stuff is what eventually makes me not want to use a product and it just lies on the shelf. Then we learned about price of Mocopi and I was a bit disappointed. But I still think that form-factor of this thing is very attractive and I wish that it worked fine with VR. We just need Mocopi 2 or Mocopi VR edition, that natively supports custom points of tracking, so we dont have to go to linux to mess it up. Sony please, money is on the ground :D
someone is defently going to geolocate that apartment.
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Mocap Fusion VR. Great video regardless.
Finally, an actually honest review of the Mocopi! I'm just trying to find an easy to use tracking system so I can add my legs to Blade & Sorcery on my quest :/
I am totally gonna save up for one of these!!!
So you just want motion capture?
11:47 that explains the similarities in tracking possibly. For their at home setups(except Ames who probably has base stations)
I'll never be able to afford a headset, but I'm glad you can so you can show us this stuff. Cool video.
Quest 2 costs like 300 bucks
Sounds super promising. Hopefully they create some dedicated support to make it better.
This looks decent for what I'm looking for
It's insane how the Mocopi it, and yes it does looked like it still need some find-turning but another half to a year later, it would be crazy how it would be by then.
I imagine taking this and "porting" to the standalone headsets is a gateway from full in-home vr to walking outside with an ultralight headset xr.
Love the lex Friedman clip of him asking if mid is good or bad 😂
Saw these go on sale the day of and I've been waiting for this video to come out.
Guess I'll wait and see if they fix the tracking bit. Otherwise I'd probably buy it now
imagine sony take notes from the moslime project, hiring its devs to make it officially a part of the mocopi experience, adding the support it deserves.
because for IMU based trackers, these are smooth, and i think the extra for that polish pays off.
The Sony icon had already sold it to me😊
yo the food from factor is actually so good I’ve had them before
I just want you to know that I watch all of your videos :) I'm still waiting for VR
2:40 not the off-white belt lmaooo
Will you be doing a review on the new haritoraX wireless trackers? I'm got them on preorder so i"m excited to use and see what other people think of them.
For my VR-chat priority is way down there. As a VFX creator i am more exited in the use for motioncapter and to get easy and fast animations for 3D models in sequenzes.
I have the same feeling about this. Im rubbish at animation so this might be good
Not in my budget personally, and the tracking itself clearly has some issues, but it's cool seeing where the hardware is going.
If Mocopi could turn the wrist trackers into elbow ones for the quest usage, to make up for the fact that the controllers already cover that area (as well as some not too shabby hand tracking in the quest line in my exp, even in vrchat once you work out what gestures do what actions), I think I'd be fully sold.
From the ease of use, transport, charging, and capability it has if it uses better software like what SlimeVR provides, I see a lot of potential, as long as it gets enough support to meet or pass the current market.
The main draw for Mocopi is definitely the way they've designed the system, clicking into straps and back into the case to charge like wireless earbuds, extremely clever.
But this ease of use needs to follow with quality in tracking in the places the most customers would use it, and considering the current, unmodded quality of VRChat usage for instance, which I view to be a huge casual market for this sort of use, and the fact that competitors can give me cheaper tracking of a similar nature that functions better, even if it's a little more tedious to charge, I'd say the current outlook may be rough for Mocopi, at least until they can catch up Quest compatibility wise ^^'
I have high hopes, but I think I'll stick with figuring out if I can buy SlimeVR with ankle, knee, waist, and elbow trackers (as I'm not too fussed on the exactness of the waist, but badly want the elbow trackers so I can express myself with my arms properly without them bending weirdly, hah)
Still yet to buy a VR kit, but you keep my dream alive
Oh man, the Pico 4 hmd looks so good.
@thrillseeker what sneakers are you wearing in this video? they look comfy
Hopefully they add a option to move the trackers wherever you want on your body so that you can use all 6 on places you actually want them so then you have functionality of both. Definitely would make then far better!
If I ever see them sold I'd like to get Sony Mocopi. Along with Slime VR trackers.
I'd like to see a 10 tracker version of this.
YES!!
That Factor Stuff looks really GOOD! ( I Don't Eat With My Eyes)
I didn't plan on getting this for VR FBT, I plan on getting this for cursed af 3d animations
Hey Thrill, remember your water cooled experiment? Now that Quest are getting overclocked I was thinking, you might see an improvement now.
Yasssss queen!!!!!! (Half way into vid later) nuuuuuuuu. But, using it for good mobile capture os a really handy
You get a like for the Lex clip. Just watch that ep like yesterday. XD
Seems like you could create a docker container with all of those dependencies then install it anywhere docker runs in one command. There are even some gui's to setup containers. That would make that server and python modules trivial to setup for everyone.
This is kinda interesting cause while it'd take a while to buy this(due to it being a big purchase so something for later) it'd be helpful cause I kinda want something to help with making animations with vrm models
I don't exactly know what I'm doing so I'd need to look things up but sounds helpful, wasn't sure what I was expecting coming into this but this helped me learn cause I've been hoping to try some animations with tracking but have no idea what I'm looking for/getting into(sorry I think I got lost trying to type this)
I might honestly get them for the sole reason of being able to motion track things. Not for VR, just because I hate animating things for the games I make, and with that tracking quality it could be way easier.
I like how they charge in that case.
Sounds like initial release woes, it'll probably get better.
Might actually get these just for game development
