what if his controller flew out of his hand and smashed through the window and it fell all the way down and you ran down the stairs to get it and then the little tracking part on the side just snapped off and you used duct tape to put it back on and then there was a shortage of parts so then you couldn't buy a new one but ur like the vr guy so valve is like "Frick it he's the vr guy" and they send you a one made out of their leftover scraps made of cardboard and then it breaks because the base stations can't track it so then it starts freaking out and gives you a seizure and then you go to the hospital because your index controller flew out the window.

All the huge companies could just buy their way out of the problem, but all the little guys were completely shafted when the part shortage hit. it's been a really rough couple years. While Ready Player One wasn't adapted exactly faithfully either, they made up for it and made it kind of work in a feature film format. Also, to Thrillseeker, you absolutely are doing Shockwave a big solid by bringing attention to them. Your channel has nearly 700k people subscribed at the time of this writing. Hypothetically speaking, if EVERY one of your subscribers tuned in to this video and learn about Shockwave, that's a LOT of attention that just got directed to this startup that can literally lift them out of the dark spot they're in. Basically, if your followers see you using it and giving your honest review/impressions of it, that can mean the world to Shockwave. It has to... because it worked on me and now I'll be keeping a close eye on them until I get a headset.

YES!! Open standards are key, I'm seeing a lot of smaller companies making really cool tech accessible to a wider range of people so we need open standards to accommodate that.
The problem with standards is that usually if a big company sets the bar and they register that, then nobody else but the same company can use it unless other they pay extra for the license and stuff. So it's a standardized way to make every experience fairly similar but in the other hand it depends on how greedy companies are with this. I'm not saying they shouldn't monetize it but just imagine if Apple or EA made a standard of such thing, they'll monetize the hecc out of it and will leave any indie developers out of the loop by default or will at least be much harder to get into that, it would make it more simple to the consumer tho, but that's a tradeoff for developers I think. Unless the whole thing gets opensource then that might be a good alternative too I guess.
That may have been worth Thrill emphasizing more in the video, where if this product gets the chance to get ironed out then even at the $500 price it's still about $2000 less than the full setup of other devices would otherwise need for a comparable experience.
@Vaeldarg indeed, I think this is a really interesting and shockingly affordable concept, but I'll probably wait a little longer until the tech develops farther and there is more support.
They seem to still be around, but they only have 6 games that support the suit, and they're not well known to get support from others. I hope for the best, but it's not the most promising chance of survival.
honestly i feel like this company has a lot of potential, if they're making products like this with minimal backing imagine if they had a team that had the resources to look into new and better tech. Something like this suit could end up prehistoric compared to their future accomplishments, giving vr a more realistic feel and would bring more eyes to the vr community as a whole. I may be stretching it a bit far here but I believe the potential is there if the resources are
I believe this is one of those situations where I think we as the people and VR enthusiasts should try to support this company so they can create a flow of these things for more people to use, so they can afford continued development and have a shot at competing before larger companies nom it all up. ~500$ for full-body tracking AND some haptics thown in there? Cheap enough to become mainstream.
Could you imagine if/when full body tracking haptic suits are mainstream, and become the norm for VR, where the tech is far more advanced than the best you can find today? It's going to be insane. Just hearing someone behind you with proximity chat alone is insane, let alone them tapping your shoulder first and feeling it like it's real life.. Imagine getting shot in the back with a burst of shots and feeling the exact points they entered your body in the game, feeling rain drops hitting your shoulders, being in an explosion with shock all over your 99% of your suit, hugging another player feeling pressure on your chest, arms and pats on your back, boxing getting hit with body shots that you don't just see but feel at different strengths depending on the other players speed, it's just gonna make VR that much more immersive that once it's made into a good quality, affordable, highly responsive product I can't see myself not using one.
That call really presents the harsh, true reality. This, technically, is of a niche group (compared to VR in general, then to other types of gaming). So, if not for the ones putting out content for those that could get others into this group, the economy behind this cannot progress. So, I get where they're coming from. Hopefully they get more ppl to preorder so that they can get the funding to keep the ball rolling and even work on improving the suit.
Shockwave has the potential to be something much more and pioneer further haptics and vr tech, there were unfortunate business decisions, but this video could do so much to help them, here's hoping!
Extremely important update on the suit: The company is currently in the "cover their a**" stage, as they are refusing to deliver more suits to backers and stopped sending every new suit order. Every few days to weeks we would get a new person in their discord saying the purchased the suit months ago, only to be ghosted and unable to perform a chargeback; many who came into the server were still without their suit months after their initial joining. The server has been deleted by the Shockwave Team, due to extreme negative feedback from obviously upset consumers, and the many backers they had yet to send the suit to (such as me) when this video went up would also voice their displeasure. Since the video went up, there had still not been a single update from the team since the few months prior to the video going up. Hoping this gets pinned by Thrill as its a serious red flag on the companies part. There was a suit, but now it is a gamble that is not in your favor: either you get something like what you bought (many reported a different suit entirely being substituted, or in incomplete packages or incorrect sizes), if anything, or you get nothing.
@@faddedreality6885 same... likely wouldn't have noticed the server missing as I only check it every couple of days if I see new notifications next to the icon... only found out since the original top moderator was inviting those that they could to a second server to keep in touch if we heard anything more...
The reality is probably exactly what they said in the video. They don’t have the money to make new suits. I don’t mean to minimize your problems but when you’re buying into a start up that’s in the R&D stage you should expect delays and issues along the way. If you paid into the kickstarter and expected everything to come on time exactly as promised you were incredibly naïve and should rethink how you support startup companies in the future. Startups are volatile and way more susceptible to changes in material prices and don’t have nearly as much capital to work with as large companies. If I were you I’d just ride it out and hope for the best.
As someone who has backed a few projects over the years on kickstarter; some working out, and some not(Arpara 5k), the open honesty to the situation at hand is commendable as it shows humility but a strong belief in the product itself. I hadn't heard of this suit and already have the x40, but I will now strongly consider investing in this product for my collection. I appreciate you bringing attention to this product and what it is and isn't.
So a few thoughts on this. This project is really cool, like insanely cool, and the fact that it is a real product that exists is insane. What he said about "I shouldn't say this as an entrepreneur" is correct, because it doesn't inspire faith in the company and the project. That being said, one of the scariest and bravest things someone can do is admit they need help and reach out. Doing so is putting aside all pride. I can respect that and I hope they get the support they need to not go under so they can continue to blow minds with new advances in tech. I believe in putting your money where your mouth is, so I'll probably be getting on the preorder of this when I got the spare time and money.
Thrill really showed his dedication to the game here and his high moral standards by not even accepting the affiliate code and being completely transparent. Good job, Thrill, keep it up!
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🤖 The video introduces a new full body haptic suit called Shockwave that provides touch feedback and motion capture for VR. 00:27 🤯 The Shockwave suit has 72 haptic motors and provides nearly full body tracking for under $500, compared to $2500+ for alternatives. 01:46 🕹️ The suit works with VR games like Boneworks and VRChat to enable touch interactions between players. 03:11 ❌ However, the suit has some issues like random disconnects and no easy recalibration method. 04:08 📈 But the tracking is quite good, comparable to Vive Trackers, and the haptics can be very immersive. 09:59 💸 Shockwave underpriced their Kickstarter and now can't fulfill all backer rewards due to rising costs. 12:31 🤔 The company is relying on new pre-orders to fund production, putting their fate in the hands of this video. Made with HARPA AI
So update on an order I made a year ago for my haptic suit: It's broken, second time wearing it and it's broken, depending on the haptics and where on the suit is giving feedback it'll just fully shut off, disconnect, then power cycle. I'm not surprised, it's made like absolute crap, nothing at all like what was shown in this video. The suit utilizes connectors that are not at all meant for this type of application, they're connectors that are really closer to SATA power than anything else, and they're _not_ at all durable or able to handle _any_ kind of stress. Worse part is the suit isn't able to be washed as it's literally just a suit with a bunch of haptic motors glued on the inside with a PCB stuffed in the back of the torso. Oh yeah, and it connects via a rando USB-C port in the same spot, good luck plugging in while you're in the suit. What a nightmarish waste of $250 I should've known better.
Jeeeeze, I’m sorry to hear about that. Yeah, there were a LOT of open questions regarding the suit. Apparently the shipped design changed multiple times after the video as well. I appreciate the update as well.
@@ThrillSeekerVR they said in the Discord it's a software bug but I have my doubts. Others are reporting the same problem so I think the power delivery on board is shutting off due to overvolt/overdraw protection
It sounds like it’s super important for this product to survive. Price is often the biggest barrier for people when it comes to starting VR or upgrading your experience.
I can't believe I've seen you grow this big all the way from 30k. You've really done and outstandingly good job already from all the way back then your quality has always been amazing tho and you deserve every single bit of it.
I hope things work out for them Shockwave seems like they are better engineers than businessmen. The fact of what they've accomplished is amazing, here's hoping that maybe they get some angel investor to give them the boost they need to finally make good on their kickstarter backers.
As one of the backers of this project that has yet to receive a suit, I just wanted to say thank you for doing this video. Their company does seem to be genuine about their attempts from what I've seen so far and had been providing regular updates about the project on their discord server and via kickstarter emails; though I will note the updates seem to have slowed down in the last few months which I suspect was due to their funds drying up and their priorities shifting towards fund raising to finish their commitments. I do sincerely hope this video will help them raise the funds needed to complete the project, but even if it doesn't, I still feel at least a little bit better for having seen this video and knowing that they're trying their best to get the project made, even if it is much later than originally expected.
@@imperatrix.0018 Unfortunately not and from what I've seen on their discord, I am now highly sceptical that they ever will provide it. If you'd like to learn more about what has happened in recent months I'd highly recommend visiting what is meant to be the official shockwave discord, since it's basically community run now from what I've seen and is probably the best place to find more info on what is currently going on with all of this.
Ready player one is already super close to being in real life, it’s easy to predict the future now, maybe because we know what companies are going to do and it’s scary.
Thrill really showed his dedication to the game here and his high moral standards by not even accepting the affiliate code and being completely transparent. Good job, Thrill, keep it up!
I know it would be a pain in the ass but I'd love more data in these videos. Like in a given set of time how frequent are the bugs and glitches. How quickly after setup do the first problems show themselves. Stuff like that is honestly really helpful in showing what we should really be paying attention to.
Way to many variables in not only software but hardware differences. Its why nobody every talks about every bug they encounter unless its a repeatable one or a glaring issue that everyone can see.
It's a pipe dream, but I would love to see bHaptics and Shockwave collaborate. A fullbody solution with bHaptics level of support/integration would dominate consumer haptics.
Thinking about it. The bhaptics SDK was open source. Same with this I think. If there's industry support for bhaptics stuff maybe there's some way to convert the signals?
@@goestheboom5211 Ps5 barely has haptic bro it has one taptic engine which costs 5$ the haptic on that shit are nothing compared to actual haptic suits like this one
When you said they will "subsidise the suits for Kickstarter customers with money from new customers" someone might understand it as you calling it pyramid scheme, but the guy was pretty exact with saying "we need to buy in bulk or not at all". I hope they will be they break even, and start RND for next version of the suit with less drifting and better haptics.
This problem is very common with the tech industry especially on the edge. Keep in mind if they get a solid number of pre-orders that can also use the info for private investors to help pick things up but yes in jun of 2020 the cost of mems devices took a page from space x it was crazy what once was a 3$ mcu or a 5$ imu was not 30-100$ each
I'm definitely interested in this, I didn't even know it existed. I'd have to wait a little bit to see if they can actually deliver their products but once they get the manufacturing figured out im so down.
Combining the tracking and haptics into a onsie has been the first time the idea of wearing stuff for VR has made sense to me. I'd love to have something like this in the future, feel raindrops and wind resistance (and gunshots and spider crawls 😅), and get full tracking with 1 device. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
As an early backer I REALLY hope this works, I don't think anyone in Europe has received a suit and I had honestly resigned myself to accepting I was scammed but I trust you dude so let's see if Shockwave can deliver Also, you didn't mention (maybe didn't know) that a year after the project was funded they asked backers for an extra £40 for 'additional shoulder and foot trackers', but at that time they were apparently already in trouble with spiralling costs so it very much looks like it was just ploy to get more money As I said I really hope the publicity from this video enables them to get the product out but I couldn't personally recommend the pre-orders as I just don't have enough confidence or trust in them for that myself
Did you get the emails they sent out this week? I ordered one after this video and they just said they are planning on shipping the first batch next month, and asked me for confirmation on my measurements. I'm curious what they are telling you since you're an earlier backer.
I must admit that I've been in a Community that's had issues with pricing and getting things out, I've spoken with the people behind it and I've seen it go as well as can be. However I also was very skeptic that it wasn't a Kick-Scam, it doesn't seem to be, but now there's the payment issues; I really do feel for them wanting to price their product reasonably. The issues is now that they've proven do I pre-order at a higher price to pay for the Backers or do I continue playing the waiting game.
The waiting game is really risky, because if they don't get enough preorders, the company will go bankrupt and you will be left with no device to buy at any price.
The production value in your videos is next to none. You're doing such a good job with this. It's clear that VR is your passion and you giving these weekly video updates is definitely something I look forward to. Thank you!
It's the right price at the right time, even at $500 a piece this is a good deal. So... I'm ordering one. It's not perfectly functional, but it's way better than not having either, and far more affordable. Ideally, Shockwave will eventually release their driver support code to Valve's OpenVR project so support can spread industry-wide, but just having the IMUs integrated into an actual suit is a boon in itself.
Honestly, this is exact the sort of thing that makes me wish I had the money to spend on a proper VR setup. I genuinely want to support a concept like this. But I'm still relying on my (somehow still surviving) Quest 1 and VD to do anything VR related, so buying one of these is way out of the question 😅
I like the videos where you review lesser known items and appreciate your honesty. I like that you included the message from the creators and the full story on the kick starter. The last video you did with the EXIT SUIT created an AMAZING amount of community almost overnight for the suit and is helping it progress. It's great that you're using your channel to help this community and the hardware. Would you be able to follow-up videos in some amount of time from now to see what the impacts of your messaging was, and how these projects progressed?
This is mad interesting - thanks for covering this! If some flaws are ironed out and haptics are easier to use without the need to mod every single game I'm super interested.
Honestly, I feel this is a very genuine product, and I hope it can pull through. If I had the money, I'd gladly join the kick starter. No one really could have predicted the chip shortage. Yes, it sucks that the original backers fell left in the cold, but to make sure they didn't waste their money, shock wave needs to survive, and I hope it does cause of love to get one once I'm able to.
I love seeing another thrillseeker video. also thrill, you're the reason that I'm obsessed with FBT come onnnnnnnnnn. Literally my life goal now 😊 (Edit VIRTUALLY ODD IS BACK YES)
I ordered my full body haptic suit from Shockwave after viewing this video in August 2023. Company said I would receive in suit in December 2023. Here we are in June 2024 and nothing yet. I have inquired multiple times and it's a different excuse each time. Trying to keep the faith, but feeling very frustrated.
Man I'm Extremely jealous of you. You get to play in super high tech Vr stuff while I and many others don't even have a Vr system! P.S cool vid, P.P.S Why does your cat have a cone on at 7:25 ?
500 or 2500 I'd gamble I do think this Kickstarter has potential and I'm surprised the company is still afloat after the mess during COVID that sunk a lot of small business.
What if you were teleported/summoned/imprisoned into the game world like Tron? To straight up bring your mind, body, soul, even the clothing you are wearing or any items you carry into that reality?
I think they should seek for funding from a company, maybe that's the way to go and i truly believe meta, for example, are interested in making VR a seamless experience for users, and this product looks like a way to achieve that for motion tracking. Although, they're already impementing AI for this, so maybe a more "techy" community like valve's targetting would be interested. having said so, this looks promising
I'd love to see either you, or someone else if you have a link to it do a side by side with vive/tundra trackers using the same avatar in the same space, doing relatively the same movements and stuff. I'd tottally consider moving from vive to this if it means not having to slowly save up for trackers. But that if its pretty compareable tracking wise, even with the issues you mentioned.
Oh my god the intro gives off crazy matpat vibes. Even down to the "HELLOOO and welcome TO..." Oh my god you did not just say "now that was odd... Virtually odd."
I wish VRChat wasn't the most toxic vr application that exists today. I've seen the worst to the best on VRChat and have enjoyed playing it, but no matter who you are, you cannot help but run into toxic bullies and people who feed off of your emotions. Evil people fill every dark gap in society. Even in "futuristic" games like VRChat. It seems like the feeling of being anonymous gives people an excuse to bully other players and ruin the experience for not only that victim but everyone else in that room. Unfortunately for people who don't have great social skills but happen to have a vr headset, being able to talk to people and play putt putt in your room is not only a great time, but helps you improve your social skills, especially if you don't want to waste gas money and time, trying to contact your friend so you can hang out with them once a week. To sum this up, I feel like VRChat is a great place for social interaction and building social skills, but come at the risk of meeting demented bullies, jerks, weebs, white knights, and wierdos. But It seems like trying to be friends IRL is also a challenge and when we live in a world filled with quick and fast methods of doing things, waiting for long periods of time for 1 friend that may or may not ghost you is not realistic either.
Just for anyone who wanted to buy a shockwave vr suit. Dont. Most of us have been waiting over a year. They don’t respond to your emails. And the ones that do get their suits are very disappointed with the quality and customer service. It is in fact a scam. And sadly I am one of these people who seen this video and wanted to do right by them and give them a chance. Save your money. Go somewhere else.
I ordered from them a year ago and they only gave me problems. They took my money and pushed my order back over and over. When I asked about it there was always some excuse for why it wasn't finished with development yet even tho it's on preorder?? Then they tried to make me pay for shipping a second time. Do NOT order this under any circumstances. They robbed me of 500 buck 🙃 dont be me
I love how the game industry has this side that is evolving to a path that will make people more physicaly active, contributing to end the sedentarism games, in general ,help to maintain, all this while making people more immersive into the games they love.
Im gonna be honest, If they fix their price to where they can make the suits without issue and its still cheaper than other suits. I can See this being the true future of VR in its entirety. Hell, i could even see myself getting this, it just needs to get to the point to where its an actual consistent product. But again, I feel like im looking into the future of how people play VR games and im so excited!

IT'S BACK BB!! WOOOO
We need a haptics standard that could hook into the sdk. That way, no matter what haptics you use, you would get a fairly similar experience.
Need someone like valve who would be able to gain from making such a standard to do it.
YES!! Open standards are key, I'm seeing a lot of smaller companies making really cool tech accessible to a wider range of people so we need open standards to accommodate that.
If we get "standard" now in a year or so it will be so outdated it will be holding advancement down.
@@10hawell nah. proprietary is what holds advancement back.
For basically $500, yes, I would think it's worth it. I would even get this over SlimeVR. And the wait would be worth it!
That may have been worth Thrill emphasizing more in the video, where if this product gets the chance to get ironed out then even at the $500 price it's still about $2000 less than the full setup of other devices would otherwise need for a comparable experience.
@@Vaeldarg agreed
@Vaeldarg indeed, I think this is a really interesting and shockingly affordable concept, but I'll probably wait a little longer until the tech develops farther and there is more support.
They seem to still be around, but they only have 6 games that support the suit, and they're not well known to get support from others. I hope for the best, but it's not the most promising chance of survival.
Bro hear me out...
NO I WILL NOT HEAR YOU OUT!!!
NUH UH
Fuck no I ain't hearing you out. "So tell me whatcha gonna do"
HE-HELL NAWGH🗣️🔥🔥
All ears
honestly i feel like this company has a lot of potential, if they're making products like this with minimal backing imagine if they had a team that had the resources to look into new and better tech.
Shame I was hoping they would get their sh*t together

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🤖 The video introduces a new full body haptic suit called Shockwave that provides touch feedback and motion capture for VR.
So update on an order I made a year ago for my haptic suit:
It's broken, second time wearing it and it's broken, depending on the haptics and where on the suit is giving feedback it'll just fully shut off, disconnect, then power cycle.

Need ps5 level haptics tho before I pay for it though I think
Thinking about it. The bhaptics SDK was open source. Same with this I think. If there's industry support for bhaptics stuff maybe there's some way to convert the signals?
@@goestheboom5211 Ps5 barely has haptic bro it has one taptic engine which costs 5$ the haptic on that shit are nothing compared to actual haptic suits like this one

As an early backer I REALLY hope this works, I don't think anyone in Europe has received a suit and I had honestly resigned myself to accepting I was scammed but I trust you dude so let's see if Shockwave can deliver
Also, you didn't mention (maybe didn't know) that a year after the project was funded they asked backers for an extra £40 for 'additional shoulder and foot trackers', but at that time they were apparently already in trouble with spiralling costs so it very much looks like it was just ploy to get more money
As I said I really hope the publicity from this video enables them to get the product out but I couldn't personally recommend the pre-orders as I just don't have enough confidence or trust in them for that myself
@itsyaboi8227 Nah, don't think I ever will to be honest 😒
