Without your How To video, our weekend away towing the caravan would have been ruined! After this R90 EGR bypass we completed the rest of the journey up two mountain passes and 30kms of dirt road. We arrived without a litre of water lost (before I figured out the EGR was the problem, I had already replaced the thermostat and water pump plus a leaking steel coolant pipe running on the front of the engine). I’ve also spent a fortune trying to diagnose the problem with 3 different mechanics. So dude you’re a legend for putting this up. Thank you!!!
Hi Marius. I have installed the two blankplayes on egr but left the unit on, but my coolent is still running through the unit. Should i do this coolent pipe bypass aswell
the egr cooler is a known weakpoint and many fail. The coolant the escapes via the cooler out the exhaust and the first you know of it is an overheating engine due to low coolant levels. I recommend you bypass the coolant loop to avoid the coolant going through the egr cooler.
I'm buying a 2014 amarok 214,000 Kms or 132,000 Miles. What problems should I look out for and how would I determine an issue. EGR / Serpentine belt just to name a few.
Do full service. Cambelt, oils and filters. Delete the egr cooler and blank the egr port. Then smile away for at least another 200'000kms without issues.
@@kieranabbey6418 personally I'd be replacing the timing belt too. mine just snapped, 3 months and $12000 later and I have a replacement second hand engine
This is for diagnosis only it should not be left like this as you will have hotter exhaust gas fed back into the intake and that will degrade the performance of the engine.
Can one perhaps put a small hole on a blanking plate after buying a new egr cooler to partially allow less Gasses into the egr cooler to prolong its life.. Or will it cause limp modes?
No, because the gases must cool before entering the intake again, otherwise you will have a slight loss of power in the engine, since the ideal is for the coldest air possible to enter the intake.
do you need to remap the ECU / delete the EGR. After i bypassed it, had a few "safe modes", and after taking it to Volkswagen, they wanted to replace the Turbo. I can confirm the performance did decrease significantly, especially lower reffs and at higher altitudes
yes. You should be able to. The egr cooler on the 2.0 tdi engine is known to fail and gives the same symptoms as a blown headgasket. If you don't catch it in time, you will blow the headgasket.
@@MariusFourie so in theory until I bypass the egr cooler keep an eye on the coolant levels and temperature, as the engine will overheat and the head gasket will blow. Is this correct in my thinking?
Yes, as the exhaust gasses will over pressure the cooling system. It is possible. But, usually the coolant just escapes into the cooler and gets vaporised out the exhaust.
@@alinduta5398 hello, Did you change the egr cooler on your vehicule and did this fix the issue of loosing coolant thru the expansion cap due to excessive pressure in the system? Thnks nasser 😉
Ridwan Karrim the valve itself should still be working, the only affect this bypass should have is to prevent the recirculated exhaust gases from being cooled as much. I don't know what the long term effects of the resulting higher combustion temperature would be on the engine overall.
The hotter exhaust gases will reduce the power and life of the engine. What you want is an egr cooler delete kit, where you completely remove it and install blocking plates but you need an ecu remap to ignore the lose of the egr

Does a leaking EGR cooler put some pressure in the coolant reservoir bottle after a couple days
Yes. Leaking egr cooler will give same symptoms as blown headgasket.

I have an egr blank on bit coolent still going trough the cooler, can i do this to bypass it then

HI Marius, Thanks for the Video. Can you permanently bypass the EGR with this method?
No, because the gases must cool before entering the intake again, otherwise you will have a slight loss of power in the engine, since the ideal is for the coldest air possible to enter the intake.
Consulta las salidas de la egr de las mangueras no es necesario taparlas al aceite el bypast
Hola supiste eso ?

Remap should not be needed
if its a permanent delete, a remap will be needed
Hi my garage says my egr cooler needs replacement can I get round this by this method

There are two types of cylinder head for amarok the one with water outlet and one without now my question is are the different from one another?
Sorry. I don't know about the different cylinder heads.
@@MariusFourie Hi Marius. I don't see the EGR, did you remove hat also and what is the result? better?
Hey mate, I’ve bypassed the egr and I’m still losing coolant and over heating. Any ideas?
Probably alreadyblown the headgasket. Have a workshop test the coolant for exhaust gasses and pressure from the blown headgasket
check the oil cooler
Is this only to be done in emergencies or can you leave the bypass pipe and drive like this daily?
You can do this as a permanent solution.
You just helped one of my clients @@MariusFourie
Will a 15mm pipe work ? Cant find 16mm
Not sure. Pipe may leak if not clamped properly.
Hi, if you have a bad egr cooler can it also be causing to build up pressure and leaking it from the overflow?
Yes, as the exhaust gasses will over pressure the cooling system. It is possible. But, usually the coolant just escapes into the cooler and gets vaporised out the exhaust.
i have this problem when dpf regenerate
build presure in cooling sistem and the expansiont tank cap reliese colant
this happens only during regeneration dpf
