    Q: Is it necessary to remove the cooler as well?
    A: No, it is not necessary. I removed mine as it was faulty and leaking coolant. If you choose to keep yours, make sure you fit both blanking plates at the same connections as shown to maintain neutral gas pressure in the cooler- if you only fit one blanking plate at EGR valve, the gasses from the exhaust manifold could cause a high pressure buildup within the cooler and it is not good.

    I used this delete on my Passat PD 140 - instead of using the brass 90 degree pipe you can use a straight clip on pipe to replace the original angled one - part number 3B0122291C the original rear rubber pipe fits directly on and looks factory. Another good idea is map out the EGR from the ECU and at the same time delete the swirl flaps, you can buy a non swirl inlet manifold also map this out with a stage 1 but get a decent tuner who knows what they're doing!

    • @Adam_G

      @@fearofchickeHaving had 4 of these in the past & still owning a MK5 Golf as my daily, I can safely say that the swirl flap doesn't prevent a runaway scenario, even when it's working correctly.
      Even though it was thought with that intention...
      And everyone should know what to do in a runaway situation, shouldn't be hoping for a swirl flap to save the day.

    Hi friend, look I have bought a new engine, because the last engine broke due to the egr gas cooler ... you recommend
    bypass the egr valve electronically and bypass the gas cooler as you said?
    Is there something going on throughout the life of the engine?

    • @Adam_G
      @Adam_G  4 года назад

      Hi, the entire egr system tends to clog up with soot and carbon over its life which is normal. The system needs cleaned regularly but only in the most extreme cases the egr may damage the engine. If you remove it the car may no longer comply with emissions standards but it takes out one thing that could potentially break and cause trouble.

    The best set up i have been able to do/experience without spending any money is 1. swirl flap left in 100% open position by removing the swirl flap actuator arm from the body. 2. EGR fitted with restrictor plate or if due to MAF sensing /too much air coming in the air intake the EGR is stuck in closed position 😁.This set up is reversible at any time in a matter of 15 minutes and yields no black smoke, lowest diesel consumption i have experienced and increase power in all revs.😁 plus if u manage to drill thru the whole DPF its even better as u will never have backflow or airflow restriction in your exhaust system which cause the famous coke up of your engine and air intake.With these set up, you will drive your engine around with no diesel/soot smell from your exhaust which will avoid people from complaining and such.

    Great tutorial. Just a couple of bits I’d personally do differently. Don’t use that exhaust paste on the blanking plate. That’ll dry up and eventually bits of that dry hard paste will make its way into the turbo making potential damage. Just use a blanking gasket instead without the paste.
    Also don’t use jubilee clips on coolant pipes. There’s good reason why you’d want a spring clamp, they expand on hot temperatures unlike the jubilee clamps, so the pipe can potentially cut into the edges of the jubilee clamps from expanding over time.

    Hi I’ve recently bought a 58 plate Audi A3 Tdi. It’s having a problem with loosing coolant. There is no mixing of oil and coolant and no visual leaks of coolant. I am yet to pressure test for leaks. Who ever owner the car previously has bypassed the egr by simply adding a piece of pipe between the two hoses like you did at 5:30. So the egr is still fitted just bypassed. Is it at all possible that this is causing problems with the coolant and loosing coolant from there. After reading this out loud I think I may be wrong but any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    • @Adam_G
      @Adam_G  4 года назад

      There are two sets of coolant lines going to the cooler- the primaries (ones I bypassed at 5:30) and secondaries, the thinner ones. It's possible the coolant could either leak into the cooler via the secondary lines and then get sucked in with the intake air and burned up, or in the worst case scenario, enter the cylinder via a bad head gasket. If your car is idling and you open the coolant reservoir and it's bubbling, it's most likely the head gasket, if not, could be the cooler.

    • @JLOOOOOOOOOOO
      @JLOOOOOOOOOOO 4 года назад

      Adam G Adam G hiya mate thank you for replying. I realised after commenting I was a bit mistaken. So the egr is still fitted and hasn’t been touched, the cooler is also fitted aswell however that is what has been bypassed (by the thick pipes at 5:30) the coolant doesn’t seek to bubble and doesn’t seem to be mixing into the oil, so to me that says is not the head gasket. Could you advise me please what next step you would take. Thank you again for your help

    • @Adam_G
      @Adam_G  4 года назад

      @@JLOOOOOOOOOOO do you know if your egr has been mapped out? If so, since the cooler is bypassed, you could get rid of it altogether and put the blanking plates in. If it's not mapped out, it leads me to think the previous owner suspected a leak and done some tinkering. How often does the coolant need topping up?

    • @JLOOOOOOOOOOO
      @JLOOOOOOOOOOO 4 года назад

      Adam G not too sure if it’s been mapped out tbh, bought it quite cheap with not a lot of information. I’ve just realised aswell I forogt to mention in my original comment my engine is slightly different to this it is a 1.9 TDI if that makes much difference? It’s abit strange the coolant seems the be abit hit and miss. Sometimes it goes down very slowly and needs topping up just a tiny bit. Other times like one Saturday, the coolant light comes on then when I checked it the expansion tank was completely dry and it took about 2 litres if not more.

      If you're leaving the cooler in, the antifreeze pipes should be flexible enough to allow you to unbolt the cooler and slide it upwards off the exhaust flange without removing them. The intake pipe (I assume you mean the one right before the EGR) is held by a thin Ω-shaped metal clip which comes off with the help of a flathead- the pipe should then slide out
