    I have seen the process hundreds of times, but i admit is very catching to watch casting process videos.

    You can use a straw and blow into the resin to pop your bubbles. Works for me. :)

    Wow awesome result. I looked up the same smooth cast product here in Australia. A 1 gallon bottle is $1329.00 ... I'll be sticking to plaster of Paris I think. Wow, that's a big mark up someone's making.

    Instead of using the mold release spray if you don't have it, you can use a spray cooking oil or even W-D40 lightly, thanks for sharing!

    Great video ! When I learned I had to use so lots of special equipment . I made made all my own silicon molds of my sculptures. Then I had a pressure pot with a air compressor . This makes things so mush more easy. Thanks !

    My first time to try this, your directions are great except I have no idea what the difference is in "A" and "B"? Why is one clear and one yellow? Are they both a type of resins?

    It’s by volume over weight because one could weigh more than the other (A/B).

    hello, thank you for your tips and tutorials... i dont know if you wanna read this, but i have a question: i want to start to do my owns designer toys, but in my country i only find two types of resin "Crystal" and "epoxi", so my question is, which of the two is better for my work?

  • @MikesLeTour83

    This product comes in “trial sizes” - which is a great idea......BUT they don’t tell you the volume of finished product it will produce. Not even on the website. I realize the trial size won’t make much, but it would be extremely helpful to know if one package will be enough for my project or if I need to order two or more.
    My sculpture is about 4x4x4.5 inches outer most dimensions. So a mold about 5x5x5.5 inches? The sculpture takes up about 2/3 rd if I use a cylinder mold.
    Help anyone?

    I always do pour into a clean cup after the first stir. Than I stir again. I never have bad spots..... and my workbench is level. This way my moulds AND my castings are always level. So why not spend an hour or two to make your workbench level?
    But still a great video.

    • @Tobywaynestudios
      @Tobywaynestudios  6 лет назад +2

      Great suggestion! I do level my bench out but over time, it becomes uneven as I have a heavy grinder and a compressor AND a vacuum chamber that knocks everything off kilter so I just need to take the time to re-level it! let’s face it...I’m too lazy lol!

    • @tinadee4931
      @tinadee4931 6 лет назад +2

      hfranke07 "then" you stir again, not "than" if we're going to be semantic about level benches, lol.

    why not just add the second part to the first part when measuring?? why measure separately, using 2 cups, then just combining them into one anyway?

    • @Tobywaynestudios
      @Tobywaynestudios  5 лет назад +1

      I find (my personal experience) that the resin mixes better and I have less issues with the resin not curing when I mix part A and B with the separate cups-Personally the scale I also use has a tendency to shut off after about 30 seconds so I don’t want to be in the middle of pouring the second part of the resin and then not know how much more I have to add to get a proper amount for it to cure fully (I hope that made sense?! If I measure out the two cups, I’m not going to run into that costly mistake)

      There are great videos on how to make a silicone mold. The larger the piece the more silicone of course. I would use the water with soap method to spread the silicone and make the mold.

    Im interested in making some ashtrays from silicone molds, will this resin with stand the heat from putting out cigarettes?

    • @Tobywaynestudios
      @Tobywaynestudios  5 лет назад +1

      Hey there! That’s a good question! I’ve never subjected the resin to a heat source like that but I would suggest not doing it. I’m not a smoker, but I would assume that most ashtrays are glass or metal?! There might be plastic trays but I’m not 100% sure how the resin would hold up-sorry:(

    • @hdd1977m7
      @hdd1977m7 4 года назад

      Toby Wayne Studios I think if it’s epoxy based then it should be ok for most types. If it’s actually a polyester resin then it definitely won’t be suitable for heat/UV exposure. What is company/brand of resin is this? There’s also another type of resin for casting which is vinyl based (also called vinylester). Don’t think this one can take the heat and to my knowledge it has a limited shelf life like the one your using.

    I have a plaster mould i wish to cast from. Would i have problems releasing this resin cast from the plaster mould? Thanks

    • @Tobywaynestudios
      @Tobywaynestudios  6 лет назад

      Hey there! I would advise to not use resin in the plaster mold-it’s VERY ridged and the resin will fire off and you won’t be able to get the resin casting out of the plaster mold-if it was a silicone mold, that is ok but not a plaster mold-hope this helps!

    • @Tobywaynestudios
      @Tobywaynestudios  5 лет назад

      Hey Mitch! Depending on the detail that is in each sculpt, I can usually get about 30 pulls or so out of each mold and then the silicone starts to break down.
