Can I use this to make a DVR by connecting the OUTPUT HDMI from my cable box to the adapter then record the content on my PC? Would any type of movie content be block or prevented from passing through or would everything pass through just like the HDMI line were connected to a TV.

OBS is great, but you can also use VLC to play hdmi capture.
@@davidbosankoe3759 When I tried this with VLC, it did not recognise the Firestick which is why I chose to do this via OSB in this method shown in the video.

@@FireTVSticks i purchased the hdmi and downloaded the obs system for MAC and i can see video but cannot hear audio. i noticed that in audio settings my Desktop drop down only says 'disabled'. i do not hav option to select 'default. i also noticed that once u selected ur the firestick device 'usb device' i did not have option to scroll down and select 'custom' audio. do u know if this should work with MAC users or is there a better program for MACusers? thanks

Absolutely one of the best tutorial videos I've seen on RUclips. Love the all inclusive step by step instructions and on screen demo. Most tutorial videos I see make so many assumptions about what I've already done, already have, or already know, which makes the entire video useless. @@FireTVSticks can I ask… is there a way to Chromecast from within OBS? The reason I ask is… if there is, then instead of buying a Firestick for every tv in the house, a person could buy one and cast to whichever room they might be in ie the family room, home office, bedroom, etc?
@@renehouse2015 No, not that I know of sorry. However, you could just move your Firestick from room to room? Bit of a hassle but it would save you buying a Firestick for every TV?
@@FireTVSticks nice video! I have a question? Do you if there is a way to view content on my laptop via a Bluetooth connection? I am able to connect to laptop & Firestick via Bluetooth. It would nice if content could be viewed on the TV & laptop simultaneously.
For those having trouble seeing Firestick in OBS and Windows, makes sure in OBS you have "USB video" selected, AND "use custom audio device" checked. Also make sure the Windows "camera" option is enabled. If still no luck, makes sure "USB video" is visible in Windows Device Manager. Finally, if still no luck, exit OBS, then restart Firestick, and then restart OBS.
where do i select usb video in obs? I dont see any toggle anywhere or drop down to select usb video

Very well done. Slowly enough, very clear speaking, step-by-step instruction was great. I just got a Firestick and need to get one of the converters (Video Capture Device) and to download an app to run it. Since your instructions are so clear, will try the OBS app.
Didn't think this was going to need so many steps… I'm glad I have mine plugged into a TV, 😉But for people who only have a PC, this is some great advice ! BTW, OBS is an amazing free software, I use sometimes for my work and it's a lifesaver 😁

I was thinking of get a Firestick for my Raspberry Pi, as both HMDI ports on my bedroom TV are used with said Pi and my Sky Box. This was very useful thank you.
As a boomer it seems to be rarer and rarer that we hear such a nicely spoken young person. Though with my Lancashire accent I was never one myself.
You're welcome! If you wanted, you could use a HDMI switch with your TV so that you can attach more HDMI devices.

The requirement to have to select the video and sound source in the software
could perhaps be made easier with a single source option, but that is for the

@@FireTVSticks I do have one issue, it is with the remote... the power button doesn't turn the Fire Stick on or off, is there a setting that I don't know about? All the rest of the remote works as it should. Or should I contact Amazon Please advise.

Brilliant...I watched 4 other videos and could not get audio or full screen on my laptop. You are great!
Without doing sound settings ... would this be a good way to load programs on firestick? Then remove and place back on your TV? Seems like having a keyboard and mouse would come in handy... especially when you have to troubleshoot an upload and on multiple firesticks! Would prob be able to save 90-95% of the time. Using the remote is a pain when you're trying to figure something out and not "computer savvy" So frustrating! Thank you for all you do. Little by little, I'm learning. ;)

Hiya. What's the point of a firestick plugged into your laptop or pc? I hear you can use it to turn any tv into a smart tv, which sounds good, but what is the benefit of plugging into your computer? My laptop for example, already has Netflix, Prime, Iplayer, etc.

The early warning that you cannot plug the Firestick /HDMI plug into HP All-in-One PC HDMI (as this HDMI it is OUTPUT only). She recommends an adapter.

Why not just plug it into the monitor hdmi port? If you are using DP, the hdmi port will be empty. Simply switch source with your monitor buttons.
There are many reasons why someone may want to plug their Firestick directly into their PC or laptop, including, but not limited to capturing your Firestick screen.
Just because you don’t see the point, doesn’t mean it pointless for everyone else. I have other tutorials and videos for installing Android emulators for example. I have been asked how to do this quite often and I am merely presenting a solution to those that want one. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

i think,,, haven't yet tried but believe no software needed on many newer laptops,, just need to be clever with the usb ports,, .. just like usb audio. thxc for the vid. i wonder if vlc would work its. open source as compared to the free version if a purchase program like osb

Doesn’t look like it, the firestick doesn’t know anything about the PC, it’s just video capture not an actual connection to the PC.

I'll bet you can. The Firestick is used in the normal way. The only difference is using a different display. All those extra steps are on the PC to recognize the video capture stick.

I don't think that is possible sorry. You can only use USB storage with the firestick. For adding storage, it is a different process depending on which Fire OS you have. If you only want to attach additional storage to save and share files with your Fire TV, this video will show you how: ruclips.net/video/LQ7Na-hzeX4/видео.html
If you want to attach additional storage so that you can use that storage to get more space to install apps, you will need to follow a different process depending on which version of the Fire operating system your device is running on.
If you are not sure which Fire OS you have, please watch this very short video on my website: firetvsticks.com/device-help/firestick/help-firestick/firestick-howto/how-to-check-what-software-version-your-fire-device-is-running/ then choose the correct video tutorial to watch from below:
Fire OS 5: Not possible to increase storage for more apps. But you can still attach storage to share files as above.

Thanks so much for this workaround video. For some reason I can't explain, using my Amazon Fire TV Cube produces a rattling and annoying sound on my laptop when I establish the video capture leaving me unable to enjoy it. But when I connect my Onn 4K Google TV Streaming Box to the laptop via the video capture card, everything works flawlessly. I really don't know why that happens with the Fire TV Cube.
I apologize, but I have only tried it with the Firestick and not with the Fire Cube.

Very easy to follow the set up. I've ordered a capture device to try this out on my laptop. Do you have to go thtough these steps each time you want to use your Firestick on the laptop? Also, when you're finished using it, is it just a matter of disconnecting and you're taken back to your normal laptop screen? Thanks!
Settings should be remembered and you will return to your laptop's desktop when finished.

Actually I had a cousin of mine that he didn’t have a power supply for his fire stick and I was able to plug it in to the HDMI port and it actually once I put my monitor on the HDMI input that it was on it worked fine and I was able to fix it.

This is useful as I'm attempting to set up my pc as an entertainment hub but like using the firestick remote , I'm not very good with pc so I'm having issues trying to install Nord VPN on it n downloader as Microsoft app store is naff n getting the apks to appear on the start screen is eluding me , looking stunning Tanya hope you are well x
