Hey, Jack! I love your videos as always, and I thought this video was very helpful. However, you mentioned that HDL is the “bad” cholesterol, and having a high HDL level is good. LDL, which is low density lipoprotein, is actually the cholesterol that blocks arteries. HDL lowers the bad cholesterol.
Anyways, thanks for the great video!
WHOOPS. Totally misspoke. Thanks for correcting me! Gonna pin this so people see it.
Jackson Bird No problem! They differ by one letter, so I totally understand the confusion.
Bummer. I was really looking forward to getting gayer and angrier.
MOOD??
I was gay and angry long before testosterone
I havent even started T but mood
i’m still pre-t and i’m gay and angry
This made me laugh harder than it should have
💀💀
Mood
I literally looked at the thumbnail and said “well I’m already gay and angry so”
Mood lmao
I'm bi, but my dysphoria stops me from dating people. It hurts so much because I AM A GUY. Why the hell do I have to feel like I'm not a "real" guy every time I like someone?? Why can't I just be a cis guy?
cant find a fellow trans that understands?
Artie person guy Me too, I completely lost hope in dating new people. I can’t handle people see me as their girlfriend and them touching my dysphoric parts. Its unimaginable.
Big mood
BIG BIG MOOD
Felt that
Wow. I was just chilling in the kitchen and went to read the titlecard. Cut to me saying outloud “TESTOSTERONE MAKES YOU GAY AND ANGRY” in front of everyone.
The biggest warning I have, being five months on T, is that my dysphoria got a lot worse. I have a very large chest, and now that I'm looking male and sounding male I feel like there's extra expectations. If my chest isn't perfectly flat I feel like everyone notices.
Pre-T people didn't expect me to look as masculine because I was clearly afab. Now that I can pass as male, I'm extra aware of the things that "aren't right".
bless dollar shave club for not being transphobic
"Look at relatives on your mum's side-"
My mums family: father went bald, sister went grey at 20, MY MUM went grey at 30
My fathers side: has hair loss illnesses where someone in his family went bald at like 20
Me: *sweats nervous*
4:40 on anger issues, I honestly think this is just a side effect of T putting you though a second puberty of sorts. Lots of people get pretty irritable at the start of puberty, but it does calm down after a while lol
"Dollar Shave CLub, yes, THAT Dollar Shave Club..."
wow, Ash said they were required to say that, apparently everyone is lol
Or the Puppy Barley Club according to Google Translate
I had a trans man as my roommate one year. He didn't have consistent access to medical treatment he could afford, so sometimes had to stop taking T. He absolutely hated getting periods back.
I have PCOS and a ton of chin whiskers. I’d HAPPILY donate them to you if possible.
Omg when you were taking about the face getting round at 6 months and then sharpening after I was so relieved. I'm at five months and my face is DEFINITELY way more round than it was previously and I do not love it 😌
Ellis P it depends on your body type and genetics. Some people end up with a round face. The face has many muscles and all of these enlarge on testosterone.
@@xbduf4gb my face muscles didn't enlarge at all I've been on T for 8 years and my chin is still recessed (my whole chin is even shorter than my ☝️ finger)
Does anybody know if the round face will get better if you don't continue taking T? I stopped it due to side effects, but I've been really noticing my face being fuller, and did not know this was a known effect of testosterone. I'm just wondering if mine will change back, continue to the "sharpening" phase, or stay like it is.
I just hit my 1 year on T last week! For me, sweating & acne are the 2 biggest on-going issues. They started up almost immediately & have lasted this long! I've learned to use stronger deodorant & use specifically acne soap/cleansing wipes every day. Pretty much all these problems are simply due to the wonderful thing to we call male puberty! :P I haven't gotten much facial hair aside from teenage fuzzies & my voice hasn't finished dropping yet, so everyone's timeline is different. My period only stops when I stay on the depo shot btw - I never miss a dose of T & my levels are good, but I only stop bleeding/cramps/pms with depo shots. Also I can vouch for Dollar Shave Club. I started using them about 6 months ago & both their razors & wanderer series are great. The shampoo smells super good & is my go-to for dysphoria bc it smells super masculine to me. Not sponsored lol, just wish more trans guys knew about them bc it's a cheap & easy way to manage that part of your hygiene.
That's exactly why I love them and love that they want to sponsor my videos! They're an amazing option for trans guys. And dude, I feel ya on your changes. It's so different for each person. We really gotta make sure people don't have unrealistic expectations.
He looks _really, really_ good in this video.
He looks good in every video but in this video even more.
1. I've started using a five day antiperspirant as well as my normal deodorant, it has been a sweaty summer. 2. Thank you for mentioning lumps, I found a lump but couldn't tell my doctor how long it had been there, and the entire experience was just way more scary because of it. It turned out to be nothing luckily, but I've started checking now despite dysphoria. 3. Apropos you talking about shoulders; that is a great t-shirt.
So glad you checked and that it turned out to be nothing! And thank you :)
I’m so freaking excited! I’m starting T on Oct. 4th!!!
so exciting! I am starting T on october 10th. 😊
hows it going?
3:07 from what I’ve heard, unless you start T in your early teens, then there is a very small chance you COULD get taller but it’s extremely rare and it has to be done before you’re 20/21. Honestly, while I’d love to be taller (or at least have longer legs) getting taller would make me have to buy new clothes and I don’t want to do that lol
I’m hoping to start t either before I’m 15 or I’m 16 so fingers crossed I get a bit taller 🤞
I’m 14 and I already stopped growing vertically when I was probably 12
You're saying I have a chance??? (5'3, 18, just started T, my cis dad is 5'5 tho. Still want to be that tall)
ETA: I wear the same size as my dad roughly, he has shorter legs tho but he's a couple inches taller
I'm 13 and 4'10, do I have a chance to be taller? :(
ive always been gay and angry
Gayngry
I vividly remember watching this video exactly a year ago when it came out and today I just started T and its so surreal to me how far I've come.
Congratulations!! How has your transition going 🤗
The fact that you didnt title this "the tea on t(estosterone) is equally shocking and reassuring
This was so helpful, and honestly answered a lot of the questions I have. I'm autistic and so I HATE not knowing what's coming and being able to prepare myself for it, so hearing that changes would come and go, or last a while, or do unexpected things to my emotions and/or perception of myself was really helpful. I also appreciated the bit about a person's sexuality "changing" because of T, because as a sex-repulsed aroace, if I suddenly found myself attracted to men or women I'd be REALLY alarmed and confused. It's good to know that if that happens, it might just be a dysphoria thing and is normal. Thanks!
I know it's just anecdotal but an ace friend of mine didn't have any changes in attraction or even libido when starting T, and I've heard another ace guy say the same :) Even if libido increases it will likely normalize in time. It's not uncommon in the early stage. Any radical shift in orientation seems to be very rare and I've never heard of anyone no longer being aroace. I was aro before and still am, though I did shift from bi to gay. It was weird to lose an attraction and I can see how it would be even more weird to gain one, especially for someone who doesn't deal well with unexpected changes.
@@human78631 That's good to know, actually, thank you! Even anecdotal, having another ace's experience to compare to is helpful, and the same with your experience being aro.
You and Ash both put up a DSC ad in the same week, so that's kinda neat. Doesn't make me less allergic to fragrances, or averse to shaving, but still neat timing.
I didn't know about the puffy face thing, but that's actually happening to me! I've been on T for 5 months and I was wondering why my face got a bit puffy
ive been on testosterone gel for almost two years now and ive had pretty much congruent changes to transmasc ppl whove taken intramuscular injections, but it IS a daily dose and SUPER easy to forget, so a lot of transmascs who use it do it immediately after they shower just so they have The Routine
As someone with an overwhelming fear of needles, I'm very glad to hear there are other options.
The beard issue happens to those born male too. Some people just get the good genes for beards and the rest of us get to envy them. Just be glad you didn't get male pattern balding too. Q_Q
I started T a fee days ago. I'm so scared to lose my hair because the male members of my family got bald so early :(
My T needle is very small and short which is awesome! I stick it in my stomach and barely even feel it
Only reading this makes my stomach hurt wtf I'm hella scared of needles
mines long and i stick it in my leg because my arm is so thin and im scared its gonna hit my bone 😂
@@satyricalsatanist5503 òó Sounds even worse wth
I read that T can reduce depression and anxiety not just because of dysphoria decreasing, but also because it signals your brain to send more seratonin to the nerves. My mind was so blown??? Kinda explains a lot not gonna lie.
Testosterone pills are actually very bad for your liver, so I highly recommend using other methods
I thought they aren't prescribed anymore
Thanks
@@isaacs8783 very very late reply (sorry for that haha), where I'm from (Belgium) they aren't allowed to prescribe them. So you're right! I don't know how it is in other countries though.
Good to know!!
thank you so much
i'm a trans woman with calculus homework due in a few hours and I watched all of this love ya bird
Friend, get on that shit
HERE'S *smacks phone* THE MOTHER FREAKING *smacks phone again* T!!!
Thank you, this was informative.
Also, you're cute
3:40 I think people are ever changing, but the sexuality changes with HRT I think is just something to do with transitioning being a journey where you find out more about yourself. I’ve heard of Trans women who only likes men still only liking men after a long time of HRT but feeling like they can appreciate a much wider variety of men/masculinity than before.
I turned 18 yesterday so now Im just looking for info and this is exactly the help I was looking for (of course Im going to continue researching but this helped a shit ton) thank you, fellow Jackson :D
So I have a question about the taking of testosterone and estrogen. Do you ever quit taking it or do you take it your entire life? And does your body every start producing the hormone on own?
this is good timing literally had my 2nd shot today. i thought i was gonna have to get off nexplanon (which stops my cycle) to start T, thank god that was not the case, did not want to deal with that.
Tomorrow is my 3 months on t day!! I noticed after starting T I was more dysphoric than before because I was so ready for the changes and I knew that it wasn’t going to change as fast as I wanted to. But it has been the best 3 months of my life so far!!! Finally getting to where I wanna be!!
I just started testosterone 3 days ago so I've been watching a lot of videos about changes and things that happens when you do start testosterone so really informative
Thank you so much, I'm a pre-T trans man and I was so scared about starting T that i was debating whether I wanted to or not, this really helped calm my fears and reassure me that it's gonna be okay, I'll be going to my doctor soon to talk about starting T
Good disclaimer!!! I see a lot of people neglect mentioning it and it’s so important to know that everyone is different!
I’ve never had any issues with crying LOL so I always felt weird that I never experienced that. Going on 3 years on T.
Jackson, you're absolutely fantastic! You always seem so incredibly authentic and positive, and I love watching your videos!
I can’t cry anyway.
It’s so strange
Must be tough as an emo.
I wish not to but I'm extremely sensitive
Thanks for making this video! It was really helpful. I'm starting T in a little under 3 weeks (yay!) but I'm a naturally anxious person so a lot of these myths and concerns have been floating around in my head. This video helped put my mind at ease about many of them.
If you're worried about being seen as a man in the gynaecologists waiting room and you have a female partner, or very close trusted friend you could take them with you, maybe into the room with you and the doctor, so you look like a caring man escorting his partner to the gynaecologist.
ahhhh thank you for this! it’s hard to sort through resources about the effects of taking testosterone because so much of the information out there is based on people’s individual experiences with it, which is fine, but not helpful when trying to determine between the general physical effects of T itself and how those physical aspects might affect you mentally/emotionally, if that makes sense
Honestly, the little chin fuzz you have is sort of goals for me.
I really needed this video, thank you
Omg thank you for all this research you did dude ♡
Man I wish I had a video this thorough and informative when I was going through puberty.
I appreciate how you address that the myths may be true, but not for the reasons people think.
Good luck to anyone going through this process (or through puberty)!
Thank you for talking about this ! I definitely don’t see it talked about and some of the things you discussed I was greatly worried about if I went on T in the future.
What a fantastic communicator you are. Can't imagine how many people you have helped with your clear and reassuring manner. Particularly those who don't have good support around them.
Thank you so much for this!! Love you :)
Hey Jackson! The change on your voice is really pronounced from your earlier videos. Grats! Found you through Ash Hardell, as I'm sure many did. You experiences with T sounds pretty familiar. I've had some issues with increased aggression and being a bit more short tempered, but nothing unmanageable.
“People will stop interrupting you and deferring to you as if you’re an expert”
Ha when will that happen, cause it certainly hasn’t for me!
Now I'm crying because I'll probably never be able to start T
I wonder what happened to you, why the pain ?
Don't cry. Maybe you are the lucky one and you don't know it yet.
Watch the video of Benjamin Boyce about The Hormone Health Crisis with the endocrinologist William Malone.
Watch the video "Cinderella : stop blaming the victim" (The Take.)
Adolescence and puberty is seldom a happy time.
It is like a storm for a lot of teenagers, even more so when unresolved complexes, conflicts and traumas from childhood come back almost to the surface. You would not fight or rebel against a storm.
You would not try to control the weather.
The best thing to do is to find a shelter and wait.
When there is a storm you forget that it has ever been sunny and it is difficult to imagine that it will be sunny again.
Don't worry. The sky will clear out.
Be patient.
The storm won't last.
I wish you the best.
Jackson, would you consider making a video about JK Rowling's recent terf-y leanings?
What are her terf-y leanings?!
She's been liking a bunch of transphobic tweets.
@@ericabourland1012 Really?
“Testosterone makes you gay an angry” literally me 😂
Super helpful video!
Thank you for the info :)
Thanks Jackson ❤
Thank you Jack!
omg this video is so helpful fr
To the second myth: I‘m trans ftm and already gay. Is testosterone going to make me more gay?😂
Super helpful!!!!
dude how do you just know what im thinking at all times? i feel like you make a video on a trans topic as soon as i'm thinking about it haha you are a wizard, jack! I'm thinking about going on T by December and this video really helped me out! I was worrying if I'd be angrier on T because generally, i'm an angry person.
I started t april 14th! I wish I'd see more changes than I have so far but, I'm excited to see whats to come
I love all your videos but please make some more "will it waffle" videos too
Thank you!!!
I saw the thumbnail and immediately said to myself “i’m already gay and angry, i don’t need T to do that” 😂
Omg the way you talk and the red hair reminds me so much of Liam Dryden!! You talk so similarly!!
OKAY HELP
im non-binary and asexual aromantic I also have incredibly low sex drive and im worried if I go on T it will go high or something is there anyway to avoid that?
Oh thank God I'm not the only one wondering/worrying about that
Excited for next year when I turn 18 and get to medically transition, I know it won't solve all my problems but damn there are a lot of them.
Bro I've stopped my periods by taking a contraceptive progesterone pill, your video has just reminded me of the fact they're gonna come back the first months I'll be on T
I appreciate the warning about the chubby face. I'll be a lot calmer knowing that it can happen and likely won't be permanent.
Oh hey Jack! Forgot to mention. You said something about arnica and how it helped with your top surgery. Arnica helps with healing a lot but if you want something for the surgery scars you may wanna look into Balsam oil etc :)
Really great video! Probably the best one I' ve seen about this topic.
I just want to point out that while T certainly is not for everyone this doesn't mean that people with mental health issues shouln't go on T. I guess these two statements just came in the same sentence randomly.?
Definitely agree with you! I don't believe I said anything that would imply otherwise, but just in case anyone else interpreted it the same as you on their first listen here's what I said at the end, "You might feel happier, yes, and if you have anxiety and depression they might decrease. This is probably because of how you feel in your body and how people are treating you, not because of the drug itself - and it’s definitely not guaranteed. You might even feel more dysphoric in some areas, maybe socially, maybe about parts of your body that T isn’t changing. And like any change in life, you can’t expect it to be the cure-all for every problem and hardship you have. Hormone replacement therapy is an amazing thing for the right people, but it’s not right for everyone and it’s not a magic potion."
@@jackisnotabird You didn't:) I didn't think you ment it, I just thought the last sentence kinda sounded like it and could be misinterpreted by others so I wanted you to be aware of that but of course you can't analyze and rethink the way you phrase every single every sentence before posting a video:)
Hey!! If you're trying to get your monthly to stop then some forms of birth control may be available for you to get so that you don't have a period anymore. I have an IUD, although it is definitely not for everyone, it works for me!
My sister is afraid about me starting T. Because I have epilepsy and she said that it would affect it. Like maybe it does? I don't know. And she was explaining the side effects of T basically listing all the things that cis men could get, high cholesterol ect/etc. I'm over here worried about her opinion on what the doctor would say.
Hey Jack, do you think it's ok that I've lost weight around my stomach after 3 weeks on T? I have a generally small build and kind of athletic body but I'm so lazy I literally don't do any excercise
thank u thank u thank u 🙏
This comes out the day after I've started trying to swap to the T patch from subcutaneous injections. I'd been doing fine with them for over 2 years, but I started having a harder time with them to the point (hur hur accidental pun) that it was impacting my doing them on time...so, not okay. It's probably gonna take some experimenting to figure out spots that will work well for me and my body with the patches, but the top of my thigh spot that I tested first seems - sadly - not ideal. Apparently, the skin and muscle vary too much in position over the course of the day and night for the patch to stay well-adhered. I'm also in the 'some patches in my face fuzz just don't want to fill in' boat, but it's got...time...to maybe get more lush or at least consistent.
I admittedly don't know a ton about patches so this is very interesting!
I don't know a lot yet, but I'm about to learn!
I truly enjoyed your video. Wish I had it a long time ago. Lol. It still gives me positive reinforcement and helps me relax hearing those tips and realities of T even though I already know about them. Because it is very disheartening to look on the mirror and not see any hair growing AT ALL after a year and a half. It really is. I still wonder if there is something not right going on with me. Not sure but Endo didn’t say there was last time I was there. He did seem concerned a bit that I’m not seeing any real changes but kept me on the same about of t. ( he was thinking of lowering my dose) but he must have found that I was within a middle transgender finally, not at 1,200 trough. That was high. Back to the point. It’s good to hear another trans guy talk about these things. Cheers
Thanks for your video. I'm 48yrs old, have had a full hysterectomy sans left ovary and went through menopause last year. I'm wanting to start T for a variety of reasons but just wondering if you know how it affects people (given everyone is different), but in general, in my set of circumstances?
I love your shirt
About losing hair: "Look to male relatives on your mom's side..."
Me, knowing that they all got bald at theirs 20: "shit"
Thanks for this. I'm going to start T in like 2 weeks and my mom is still worried that I'm going to die after like a year.
The timing on this update is hilariously poignant for me personally. I just shared your video on gender therapy with a friend of mine who would like her sibling to start gender therapy (said sibling just came out as gender fluid) and we were texting about it maybe two hours before this video dropped. Even funnier, we'd been talking about affects of HRT right before she watched the other video.
Anyway, thanks for making this, Jackson! It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
My biggest fear of transitioning is the voice change. I’m a singer and I really like my voice but I also want to be on T eventually... I’m scared that my voice is gonna change in a bad way, and even with professional help I wouldn’t be able to like my voice anymore and screw up the work I’ve been making for years :(
I just had my first dose of T this morning, then this video shows up in my recommend!
I was really scared about using needles (I have really bad needle phobia), so I researched other ways. I wanted the gel, and that's what my doctor and I aimed for. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't cover the gel (it would have cost me $910 every month WITH a discount card), so I went back to my doctor and, while I was there, she called my insurance to figure out what they would cover. Turns out, they cover Androderm (The patch) and all I had to pay was a $50 copay for a 2 month supply. I've been on T for almost 3 months now, and my doctor says I'm on track with how the changes should be going.
The patches aren't as convenient as a shot ever 1 or 2 weeks. They itch and leave my skin raw, plus if you're like me and have a lot of hair even before T, you are supposed to shave where you put it. I mainly put my patch on my abdomen and arms, since the back and thighs just arnt good for me. I try and change it around 10 pm every night. Because it isn't a shot, I don't need to sterilize my skin, just make sure it isn't dirty or sweaty. I wipe my skin off with a wet wipe (unless I am showering, then I just wash normally) and I let my skin dry, then stick it on. Summer is hard because it can sweat off. You aren't supposed to tape it down, but I do sometimes and my doctor said that was okay, as long as I don't do it too much.
The patch is about 3 inches across and there is about a 1-inch reservoir where the T is, and it just absorbs into your skin. After I take it off, my skin is raw and if I don't let my skin dry before I touch it, some skin like, peels off? its weird, so I try to let it dry so I don't hurt myself.
If anyone has any questions about the Androderm, I can talk about it some. I don't see many trans people on it, so I like being a helpful resource! (My transition instagram is @matchakatkit)
I am 7 months on T and have no cried in 7 months lol, which feels great
I want more will it waffle vids
Crying has been my biggest issue transitioning. I usually can only tear up a little which is *very* frustrating for me since crying has always been a really good way for me to destress
Super late, but question re 2:59: what if I was previously on hormone blockers long before I start on T and have not finished growing yet? Will T make me taller then?
please someone tell me why nobody is talking about ACTUAL issues with transitioning?? Like vaginal atrophy, painful genital growth, acne scarring?? I need to hear some real experiences or imma cry
That's a cool pillow
Yes
