    I bought this lens a few months ago for my r6 and i love it. I paid a little more($475 with Lens hood) but it has been great. I mostly use it in my home studio so the contrast/color issues at f4 don't factor in for me since I usually close the aperture down enough to kill the ambient light. It is more than sharp enough for the r6 (20mp) when stopped down. I made the decision to get this after viewing your video about the rf 24-105 stm so thank you very much for your input.

    Great Review! Really Appreciate that you care to elaborate on ratios of allowed light and Mpx resolution of 4k. Great point about the relative sharpness rendered by a given lens being observably constrained by the ultimate resolution of the sensor. High level references to interesting technical topics are a great way to inspire audiences to explore.

    I've had this lens for about 3 years, I bought it used with a 5D classic for a steal of a price ($550 both) and I use it on my RP quite often. I also have the RF 24-105 kit lens. I find the EF-L lens to be fantastic from 28mn to 105mm, at f5.6 especially. The colors and contrast are very nice. It is nowhere as sharp as the kit lens, and the AF is not as fast but I really like it. But the kit lens is so much smaller and lighter. Just wish Canon made it f3.5-4.5/5.6 like the EF STM kit lens. I guess that the trade offs were made for us, not by us. But I'm still very happy with both lenses. I think I will look at the RF 70-200 f4 next, as I have an f2.8 In the EF mount (Tamron G2) that I'm very happy with as well. Since I'm not making money with my photography (it's a hobby) I have to remember to balance how much I need with how much I spend, I think I will be looking (not buying) for a little bit longer.😂
    Thanks for a nice review of a very nice classic lens. Mirror less brings back life to old lenses. I love adapting my FD and Yashica manual lenses as well.

    The v1 of this lens now regularly goes for around 200€. An absolute steal for photography. For videography, the loud IS is a complete deal-breaker if you have your microphone mounted on the camera itself. The v2 with a basically inaudible IS sytem will set you back more than 2.5x that price.
    Coming from a completely manual set of FD lenses, I plan on using this for some run'n'gun videography where I don't want to always have to nail the focus manually and shoot at smaller apertures to make it easier for me.

I'll test it out when it arrives. And if need be, I'll attempt a repair. I do watch repair, so, I'm prepared to tackle a lens repair if I have a technical manual or a RUclips video walkthrough. I picked up a 5DII at a pawn shop for $275, with a 50mm stm, 28-135mm, and Tamron 28-80. Since dumping the other 2 zooms, and finding a 200mm f/2.8 L for $350 I think I've done pretty good putting a kit together!! 24-105mm, 50mm STM, and 200mm f/2.8. I'm happy!

      If you're expecting to replace the 18-135 with something of the same zoom range, keep in mind that the crop factor makes the wide end of the 24-105 not that wide (closer to a 35-ish mm).
      Maybe a used copy of the 17-40mm f4L (?)
      Can't really go wrong with any 'L' series lens although they are expensive.

      That’s awesome! Just a little clarity, because this gets misrepresented from some RUclipsrs: aperture is a mechanical measurement within the lens. So, with the speed booster, the aperture is actually still the same, but the light gets concentrated into a small portion of the sensor, so you gain an extra stop of light, but not a larger aperture.

      I wouldn’t necessarily suggest this lens with a camera like the T6i or any other APS-C camera. I don’t think it would be very noticeable of an upgrade for you.
      If you can find something like the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 lens, used for a reasonable price, that would probably be a better upgrade. I would suggest the 24-105mm, unless you are planning to get a full frame camera in the relatively near future

Educated myself on 35mm,55mm,85mm lens, I currently have a canon 55mm F1.4 USM lens as well for the T6i and that's what I use when I want more of the bokeh effect of my daughter such as her birthday pictures, easter shoots. etc etc. I'm definitely not a pro but they come out better than using an iPhone :) I did find a used 17-55mm f2.8 lens for about $400 and I saw your video and a couple others about the 24-105mm, so now i'm in-between the two. • @JustinMyersPhoto
      @JustinMyersPhoto  2 года назад

      @@LadyVilian well, two things I would say to consider: f4 can be somewhat limiting in terms of light gathering on an APS-C camera, and 24mm would also be a lot less wide. You do have the 50mm for lower light situations though.
      Another thing is that decent quality lenses like the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 (and this 24-105mm lens) will typically hold their value pretty well. So, you could buy the 17-55mm and use it for however long you have the T6i. Then, when you need a new camera body and get something full frame, you could sell the 17-55mm and use that money toward a full frame lens

      Gotcha, ya I’m not a huge fan of the RF 24-105mm STM either. What I would suggest: shoot with the STM lens at 24mm indoors and see if that works for you (in terms of aperture), because 24mm is where the RF STM lens can open to f4. That would be the widest aperture for this EF lens, so if the f4 works for you, this EF lens could be a great option. If not, a 24-70 f2.8 might be worth looking into

      @@crayshaunhenderson1265 I have a video review of the EF-S 17-55mm lens on this channel.
      I would say, go slow with purchasing lenses. If you need something wider than the 50mm f1.8, get the 24mm. If that’s still not wide enough, you could look at the 10-18mm, etc. But probably purchase based on how you are shooting and what limitations you’re running into. If you can’t get close enough for your shots, then look at a longer lens, and so on.
      Keep in mind though, that most of the EF-S zoom lenses (with the 17-55mm f2.8 being an exception), will
      Not have the same level of image quality as those prime lenses

      You’re probably looking at the version II of this lens new. This is the original version and it’s no longer manufactured, so you won’t find it new.
      If you’re in the U.S., I would suggest looking at some reputable used camera gear sellers like Adorama (their used section is linked in the description for this video) or MPB.com.
      You can also try Facebook marketplace or other local listings, eBay, etc. Just keep in mind that you will need to very thoroughly test that the lens works properly in these cases

    • @JustinMyersPhoto
      @JustinMyersPhoto  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, but it will be very bulky with the weight being all at the front because of this lens. It will also not be a very wide field of view on the APS-C sensor, so it may not be as versatile for you. If you it does still work for you, this is the adapter: amzn.to/3RTo6O7

      I wouldn’t say it’s a great lens for vlogging. It’s usable for vlogging with a full frame sensor, if you also need the rest of the zoom range and only want one lens, but most people prefer something wider than 24mm for vlogging. What camera would you be using it with?
