Full on, my favourite A-ha tune - it's spectacularly good. Huge hit here in the UK at the time.
It has a euphoric nature to it that is utterly irrepressible to me. I remember it from it's day, I was only 6 or 7 years old, and it grew with me as I got older. Today, it's their masterpiece in my opinion.

I remember my 1st time reaction i listened "Take on me" "shining out" from a lil radio/tape.I was with my girlfriend and we went "WHAT"?!!!We stopped talking just to listen that overwhelming sound cause we got stunned.A strange feeling of euphoria stormed us at once.Weeks later on i bought their debut album when it was released .I phoned her.Put the needle on the vinyl and listened to all 10 songs together by the phone without stopping.Same feeling. We couldn't believe our ears.We got hooked."Hunting high and low"album can easily be crowned as a "Greatest hits"lp on i'ts own.An "instant catcher".Producers Alan Tarney,John Ractliff,Tony Mansfield did a grrr8t job and gave it a "speedy" "accelarating" sound-esp.on instumentation terms- along with its sweet Scandi melancholy.Well deserved its over 11million copies sold!

Tony Mansfields mix was released in 1984, and it flopped in UK. This release reached a third place on the charts in Norway, as the only place it reached anything. Alan Tarney stripped the song back to the original (as the guys in a-ha themselves wanted) and they started over again. It is therefore wrong to give Tony Mansfield any credit for the success of Take on me. Actually a-ha themselves added some changes while Tarney was out for an errand, and when he came back he said (now I am paraphrasing) "There we have it". When Magne said "Then let's finish it", Tarney replied "No, it is finished". You can find the 1984 version on YT.

@@ahkkariq7406 Of course i know the whole story about the previous releases of the TAKE ON ME single and have heard all versions.I surely prefer its final release. But my reference on T.Mansfield had to do with his job to the whole Debut album and my specification wasquite clear..As far as i know he contributed on "Train of thought""/"HHAL"/"Blue sky"/Living a boys adventures tale/And you tell me/ and the fantastic dual closers Dream my self alive/Here i stand n face the rain .7 songs in total!Alan Tarney also did a fine work on "The sun always shines on Tv",( as well as to that final version of "Take on me" that was also icluded on the album). This debut lp had some kinda progress from one producer to the other. John Ractliff was only on" Love is reason" and did the MIX on the first 2 previous releases of the TOM single, though not on the final one.I hope my specification helped more to settle things out, even though i think my comment wasn't that confusing. That's why i ended up by praising "its 11 million copies" albums sold. It's quite obvious. @ahkkariq7406 2 года назад

@@alexioverdo5225 I don't know if you are Norwegian, if you can read Norwegian or if the story of what happened in Mansfield's studio is discussed elsewhere than in Håkon Harket and Henning Kramer Dahl's book "Så blåser det på jorden" (Aventura Forlag/Publishing 1986). Of the books I have read about a-ha, this is the book that most thoroughly deals with the production of "Hunting High and Low". If you want to give credit to someone for the final result of what happened in Mansfield's studio, then you have to give it to John Ratcliff. Warner had booked six weeks in the studio Eel Pie with Tony Mansfield.
In the book you can read the following: "Tony Mansfield was simply obsessed with his computers and electronic spinning tops. His fascination spread dangerously fast to the relatively inexperienced artists, who accepted all change as manna from heaven.
... The encounter with Eel Pie's digital temptations was like a Norwegian's encounter with cheap alcohol in southern countries. A-ha went berserk in sheer intoxication, and Tony Mansfield - as the responsible producer - even tripped unrestrained on the same drug. The moaning of the hangover was to resonate deep inside Warner's offices.
... As July approached August, a-ha led by Tony Mansfield went against doomsday. Andrew Wickham had increasingly asked for tastings ....
      ...
On most of the six or seven songs the work had begun, only the basic riff was taped. They had a weekend to do it - four songs had to be recorded, and in a condition that tempted Warner to further investment. ...
      ...
When he (Slater) entered the studio the night before the meeting with Warner, it was visible to everyone that it was with fearful suspicions. After listening to Blue Sky his respond was: We’re in deep shit guys. When the shit hits the fan, we’ll all be covered in it!”
Terry Slater's predictions were correct. Andrew Wickham was not at all happy. He had only ordered a slightly better and fresher sound - otherwise he would preserve the same fresh feature of obvious boy dreams that the demo had charmed him with. Now it had all been run through a computer that had dethroned the personal in favor of a sterile display of fixed rhythms and roaring arrangements. It was not this band that Warner had paid so dearly to launch.
Furthermore, you can read that the solution came from John Ratcliff. He had an acquaintance who owned a studio with sixteen tracks and a linndrum. The next weekend, the band boarded the bus and traveled to Sheffield. There Ratcliff reproduced "Love is reason". When the result was presented to Andrew Wickham, he had to admit that Ratcliff was the man to do the job. They went back into the studio in Eel Pie, but now under Ratcliff's leadership. Mansfield may have been credited officialy, but his idéas was not at all what created the album, according to Harket and Dahl.

For probably most die hard a-ha fans take on me is the least listened to song lol, a-ha are known for there darker lyrics wrapped in more upbeat music, I’ve been losing you for example , is about a guy who has murdered his wife/girlfriend

A-HA was a real top band for us in Southamerica. The Nordic bands were very succesful. Even Abba did some of their songs in spanish, Europe, A-Ha, Roxette, Ace of Base and a lot more. They came here many times. I went to see A-Ha in Santiago in 1991. And they came to local festivals after that on their tours. We loved them and almost everyone has an A-HA Greatest Hits CD at home.
(PS: There is a curious thing you have to know about latinamerican rock/pop fans. During the 80's we don't only have the best of USA and Europe rock to hear on the radio or see on their tours (we have the best crowds in live concerts); we also had the latinamerican pop/rock bands, that you don't know, but could be a rabbit hole to you in the future, if you give them a chance. Especially argentinian and chilean 80's and 90's rock bands.) Regards from Chile 🙂

Regards Tomas 😎 Fascinating comments there. I knew south American fans were quite passionate about music, but that's interesting regarding all the bands visiting the area so often. Maybe Give us some 80's / 90's Argentinian / Chilean rock band suggestions 😎👍🏼

@@reactionextraction Hi!! Yes, I believe that almost any great anglo band did play here in Chile at least once. During my 20's and 30's (after dictatorship) I went to any concert as possible. During my childhood (80's) was very difficult that they could do massive concerts because of political restrictions. Then the argentinian and local chilean bands took the place of the foreign anglo bands and did good music and live concerts. Some of the greatest latin rock bands were Soda Stereo, Charly García, Fito Paez, Virus, GIT, Enanitos Verdes and Sumo from Argentina (there are a lot more from that country) and Los Prisioneros, Los Tres, La Ley, Los Jaivas among others from Chile.
I personally recommend the live concerts from Soda Stereo in 1997 and 2007 to knew them. Songs like "Profugos" or "Musica Ligera" are a good beginning to this latin rock rabbit hole. Even Coldplay did a cover of Musica Ligera in Argentina, and Soda's leader Gustavo Cerati did some work with The Police guys together after Sting lefts.
