Best thing about aha is that they're just as good, if not better, live as they are in production... and, of course, that they're still going. Their MTV unplugged 2017 was jaw dropping.
I love watching your face as you listen to this absolute masterpiece of a song! You look so happy, it’s the same look I get on my face every time I hear this! I’m so glad that younger generations are still loving this epic song! ❤
I feel Morten and Simon Le Bon were undoubtfully the strongest and most iconic frontmen of the '80s mainstream pop music scene HBK Luke. Both different personalities but strikingly exceptional.
A-ha at their best in my opinion. Utterly ferocious and weirdly touching. Huge hit here, #1 for a few weeks in late '85. This song grew up with me from a 7 year old to now as a 44 year old. That's what's missing now - something everyone can get behind and enjoy, but there's no central point to pivot on any more. You're a smart lad, you get it and I enjoyed your take on it. Because it's correct.
I was enjoying this group back in the late 80s - I'd be in my workshop while deployed on an aircraft carrier and would be blasting their albums on my CD boombox while the other guys mostly listened to heavy metal. I've been a fan of this group for over 30 years.
"The Sun always shines on TV".... another of my favorite A-ha songs! I saw them in concert way back on the late 80s. One of my favorite bands. You mentioned Duran Duran... would love to see you react to some of Duran Duran's less known songs. I love their 80s hits but they have songs that I love so much more. Have you reacted to Duran Duran's 90s hits "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone"? I love DD darker songs like "The Man who stole a Leppard", "Before the Rain", "The Universe Alone", "Come Undone". Or their funky "Pressure Off", "Notorious", or "Skin Trade".
Great reaction! My #1 A-Ha track...always has been since first seeing/hearing it in '85! The power of it all - just epic! My wife has also mentioned that this video (much like the groundbreaking Take On Me) is brilliant. Not sure who was the cinematographer, but this was/is art! I get chills every time I hear the opening piano & vocals. Masterpiece. Cheers!
Drummers work very tight, precise on the right beat. A lot of people don't realize this but it has struck me ever since I first heard it in the late 80's.
Morten is a far better singer than Simon Le Bon...fans of both of them but Morten's range is top notch. Can't fault him for his vocals. This is such an iconic track. I remember when it was released, it was MEGA!. Don't think anyone had heard any vocalist hold the end note the way Morten did. Epic!. A-ha were just getting started with this track and the melancholy is more to do with "The Doors" influence as the band have a liking for Jim Morrisson and co. Or is it the dark Scandi evenings and landscapes?.
Such a classic. It just never gets old. But I always wished they had used real strings on that break down rather than those synth strings. It would have made it epic beyond belief.
@@kaybailey-jones3740 Oh my God i was about to attend those RAH 2010 gigs but damned i missed the chance!I was so sad.Unfortunately as far as i know they weren't officially filmed. They were glorious.Played everything from their two first albums. I finally made it to attend their Nov. 2010 London Wembley gig with my wife and my cousin.
I love a-ha since i was a child. I think they show the spirit of eightees pop rock. By the way one of my sisters was in love with the singer and the keyboard guy, very good looking guys without a doubt 😂
The dark lyrics are what I feel gives the song its melancholy layer, the music itself is bombastic and it grabs you by the collar and holds your attention from the first note to the last.
Well, U2 stated that "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." heavily influenced the composition of their 2000 single release, "Beautiful Day". (and the «touch me» in «Beautiful day» is identical to «touch me» in «The sun always shines on tv» as you say 😉 A-ha was also an inspiration for Coldplay, Keane, The Killers..as you can hear by their music/sound.
This is my favorite. The whole creative thing is amazing. He's as beautiful as his voice. The whole band it adorable. Have you seen the "unplugged" version from MTV?
One of there best even though it was a popular one! Outstanding vocals & such an atmospheric "big" sounding track! Keep 'em coming bro ❤ Congrats on the 1M, very deserved 👊 You've earned it. Love !
Thank you, Luke! Great reaction. It is always interesting to find out what other people think about the song/video. My understanding is TV at that time became a substitutt for religion, "a church full of fake plastic people". Keep up the good work.
Was a bit of a fan as a youngster then dived headlong into metal music not long after buying the second album thanks to my brother getting into Metallica. Barely listened to it at the time. Other than Take On Me which popped up from time to time I hadn't heard them for decades. Blown away at just how good they were when I took a trip in time on RUclips last year!
Love them both and equally for different reasons.Morten has undoubtfully the 'vocal range' and was a 'calm power'.Simon was an explosive persona born to be a leaderman and a great lyricist and performer as well.Yhey both sound fantastic live, almost flawless. That era gave some considerable gifts to pop music. along with them.Actually i can't thnk of any other like them in such a strong impact the decades that followed.Maybe Robbin Williams or Hary Styles? Not that sure though.
hi dude . morten harket is the most beautiful man on this planet !!! plus , the most beautiful voice with pete burns ( singer of dead or alive ) and andrew eldritch ( singer of sisters of mercy ) . morten harket is a god !!!
Very catchy and rather different.I feel the production in 'CW' was quite reminiscent of Trevor Horn's work with Frankie Goes to Hollywood stuff('Two tribes") which had been still very influential at the time for many artists. The video is also quite good.It was a top 5 hit in UK too and went silver for sales of over 250,000 units at the time.I still think that song missed the chance to become a good opener in A-ha tour set lists.(Don't think it ever was).
OMG I love a-ha, well done, love your reactions. Will you be the first one to react 'THERE'S NEVER A FOREVER THING' a-ha, best song in the world? (Did you put the title on purpose?)
Si,obvio quien no recuerda AHa y a quien no le gusto esto???solo q me da mucha gracia q la gente NO VEA REALMENTE EL "GRAN SIGNIFICADO DE ESTE TEMA"....NO SON LETRAS XQ SI GENTE!!!!!!!ABRAN LAS MENTES Y ESCUCHEN LA LETRA!XEJ "TREN DE PENSAMIENTO"QUE CREEN Q QUIERE DECIR???Y Q APAREZCAN TRES VIDEOS COMO "COMICS"QUE CREEN UDS Q QUIERE DECIR!!!!???????

Duran Duran can't compete with the majesty of some of a-ha's songs...no one can.
If a-ha had been a American band, Should be one of biggest phenomenon of all time
I love watching your face as you listen to this absolute masterpiece of a song! You look so happy, it’s the same look I get on my face every time I hear this! I’m so glad that younger generations are still loving this epic song! ❤
Morten was such a charmer having the looks of a filmstar and sounded like no one else. His voice was out of this world.
I feel Morten and Simon Le Bon were undoubtfully the strongest and most iconic frontmen of the '80s mainstream pop music scene HBK Luke. Both different personalities but strikingly exceptional.
Still has a great voice, check out the MTV version of Take on Me

This is my favorite video from A-ha I love the whole concept of the mannequins being the audience in the video
Che musica!!!❤️ capolavoro degli a-ha e adoro la parte finale con la Voce di Morten meravigliosa!!

Good you're discovering them!
fun fact: in the UK, this song reached higher in the charts than Take On Me
Such a classic. It just never gets old. But I always wished they had used real strings on that break down rather than those synth strings. It would have made it epic beyond belief.
What an adventurous "strings" interlude!Actually i thought it was real strings.Wasn't sure it was synth. But sounds marvelous anyway.
They do at the Albert Hall concert and the recent Norway acoustic session (mtv) check it out dude.
Thanks for the tip. I'll check that out.

They have such good music. Even newish. This is my first video of yours SO I'm curious if you reacted to more of their music. I have a long list.
It's The Sun Always Shines on TV!
The dark lyrics are what I feel gives the song its melancholy layer, the music itself is bombastic and it grabs you by the collar and holds your attention from the first note to the last.
I always felt that U2 stole that ‘’touch me’’ part in A Beautiful Day. Every time Bono gets to that part, I can’t help but sing this song in my head.
Well, U2 stated that "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." heavily influenced the composition of their 2000 single release, "Beautiful Day". (and the «touch me» in «Beautiful day» is identical to «touch me» in «The sun always shines on tv» as you say 😉

@@In_my_own_mind So I wasn't crazy after all! I had no idea that they admitted to taking it from A-ha but I'm glad that they owned up to it.
Once when playing in Norway U2 segued into TSASOTV while playing ABD.

Morten has fantastic vocal range and much better than Duran Duran. He holds the recordsfor the longest note on Norwegian TV

Actually it is the European record for the longest held note in a top 40 pop song, 20,2 seconds in 'Summer moved on'.
