This was a great reaction… one of my favorite reactions on RUclips. This song surprised me years ago when I first heard it too. Incredible follow up to take on me that never got it’s due in the USA
Thanks for this reaction! It's about time these guys get some love for songs other than Take on Me. This song is phenomenal. The production is so "big" and sweeping. At 16 years of age I was really struck by A-ha when they first came out in 1984 and have very fond, formative memories of their music. At 18, I joined the US Navy in 1986 right after high school and I was in my "A" school at Dam Neck base in Virginia Beach, VA in September of that year. Since I didn't have a car at the time, I would spend days in the barracks listening to my Sony Walkman cassette player playing my Hunting High and Low cassette over and over again while reading fantasy novels. "Living a Boy's Adventure Tale" was particularly fitting. The entire album is fantastic. Their music and Morten's voice are so evocative. They came to the Norfolk, VA Scope arena that year and I had to pay one of my classmates who had a car to take me to the concert. It was awesome with girls everywhere, lol. Their set list included "Blue Sky" and they had a huge screen showing moving clouds in a blue sky. At age 53, I can still see that image. A-ha has definitely influenced my music tastes for all these years. Other songs to check out are Here I Stand and Face the Rain, Hunting High and Low, Train of Thought, The Weight of the Wind, Manhattan Skyline, The Living Daylights (James Bond film with Timothy Dalton of the same name), Lifelines, Scoundrel Days, October, Soft Rains of April. Thanks again for a revisit of my past.
I also have to admit that "Take On Me" is almost a bit "average" compared to their other stuff, in my opinion. And yeah, it's crazy that some people even think that they're a one hit wonder. One of the most successful European bands of all time and *the* most successful Norwegian band for sure. Such a deep rabbithole...
A-ha is my 2nd favorite band ever and I agree with you, Take on Me is not on my top favorite a-ha songs, it is a great song of course but a-ha is more melancholic and darker than Take on me.
Great reaction!! 😀😀 Biggest pop group from the 80’s in Brazil. They sold millions there, and have done some of the biggest concerts ever played in the world. They stayed like that for at least half of the 90’s. The album which This song was taken from is with no doubt one of the best debut albums ever released. There is no fillers on this record. Please listen to it if you have the chance. By the way… Coldplay has been heavily influenced by A-Ha . Love them!!
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. This is way more reflective of what Aha do as a band as opposed to Take On Me. I can’t really tell you how much I ❤️ this song. Listen to the album Hunting High and Low and I guarantee you’ll be in love.

Oh goodness! A spine chillingly awesome piece of art this song 💗 A-ha have produced 10 brilliant albums since their debut, plus 6 solo albums from the lead singer Morten Harket during this time. I'm a big fan so I find it difficult to pick out favourites, but.... I can guide you to "I Call Your Name" 1990, ""Summer Moved On" 2000, "Lifelines" 2003, "Objects in the Mirror" 2016, "I've Been Losing You" 1986..... then Morten's "Brother" 2014, "Lightning" 2012, "Jungle of Beliefs" 1999 💗 There's just sooo many 😀
Aha was so huge in France .. When i was there for ma summer school they play a lots in tv shows milka top 50 .. i grab this vinyl at Fnac (not sure for the recofrd shop name in français ) ….
The synth bass line and drums is what gets me every time, not to mention the vocals. Magnificent song!!! This song will be playing in my wake and burial.
This is my fav A- Ha song along with Take On Me. Such a great band. I listened to them when I was prob 2 my mom played them all the time. I'm now 39 still love them. Reminds me of my childhood 💜💗💜💜
No one on RUclips has yet reacted to the title cut of Scoundrel Days. A truly epic song, one of their best! That is my recommendation for you! Greetings from Norway. You have grown to be my fav music reactor. Keep up the good work!
Agreed. In fact all the album has marvelous songs (except Cry Wolf which is… alright). My favorite track from this one is « Manhattan Skyline », epic break in this song.
Got my first CD player as a Christmas present in 1985 and A-ha’s Hunting High and Low CD was one of my first. Must have played this well over a hundred times - and loud. Love your reaction.
Oh yes, definitely. "Lifelines" is one of their best after their comeback. I've also always liked "Velvet" a lot, just to name one other song after their comeback.
you are just scratching the surface of the greatness of a-ha. So many great albums and songs. hunting high and low, the living daylights, stay on these roads, crying in the rain, dark is the night for all, summer moved on, velvet, forever not yours, and lifelines to name a few, are some of their best songs but they have so many, many more.
Hi Dereck, I really loved your reactions to this amazing song. I love so much A-ha and this Is one of their best songs. Anyway there are other songs that you must know and react to. Lifelines, stay on this Road, crying in the rain. These are the first I'm thinking about, but there are many others. Anyway A-ha deserve your attention. They are great musicians!!! Bye Dereck 😊
It was a follow up single and no. 1 in the UK, whereas Take On Me only got to no. 2. I've Been Losing You is another great a-ha song, which doesn't get mentioned very often. Love a-ha!!!
Always have goosebumps listening to this song! God bless and love Morten’s voice!! BTW, u r born in the year when all sorts of music experimentation starts, especially from the UK scene. :-)
This track is just ' peak 80's!'. It sums up that decade perfectly - aspiration, creating a fantastical world amidst the mundane reality, the power synths, the use of real instruments aswell, the creativity, the great vocal harmonies, the ludicrously expensive clothes pop stars of the day wore, the outrageously ambitious videos, the sheer 'ballsyness'. It's ALL in this track alone!! The 80's was THE decade for ambitious videos, and all round originality. There hasn't been a decade before or since, like it. I doubt there ever will be. The 80's was special. Singers could sing and weren't afraid to incorporate real instruments (played by expert session musicians) alongside synth sounds. And it all worked perfectly.
Thanks for reacting to my favourite band ever! I saw them twice in concert in France and Morten still holds the record for the longest note in a top 40 song (Summer Moved On). Good music times without autotune..
Thank you for appreciating the genius of this song. Everyone knows “Take On Me” but this one…wow. It’s a musical masterpiece. I wish more people would dig deeper into a-ha and see they’re capable of so much more than the one hit.
a-ha songs I would personally recommend: -Hunting High And Low -Blue Sky -Train Of Thought -Living A Boy's Adventure Tale -Dream Myself Alive -Here I Stand And Face The Rain -Scoundrel Days -I've Been Losing You -The Swing Of Things -Manhattan Skyline -Looking For The Whales -The Blood That Moves The Body -The Living Daylights -Sycamore Leaves -Slender Frame -I Call Your Name -Move To Memphis -Cold As Stone -Summer Moved On -The Sun Never Shone That Day -I Wish I Cared -Forever Not Yours -Oranges On Appletrees -Lifelines -Celice -Case Closed On Silver Shore -The Bandstand -Foot Of The Mountain -Shadowside -Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) -Under The Makeup -The Wake -Forest Fire -Sox Of The Fox
the 3 members of a-ha grew up listening to bands like the doors and Jimmy Hendricks, morten was a blues singer. Their synth sound came out of what they heard in the UK when they first arrived, and being only 3 of them they needed away to make music and demos with a full band. But a-ha have done many albums of varying styles, rock, pop, and styles that probably don’t have a name lol if you want another a-ha rock sounding song to checkout Manhattan skyline or I’ve been losing you. Or he’ll react to both.
I love love this song!!✌️😊 you should should check out this song from an MTV live from like 2018 or 2019....this man is still gorgeous after all these years!!
A-ha is one of those bands so incredibly great that has been so stupidly underrated and mistaken for "one-hit wonder". They have quite an array of songs to demonstrate the pont: Hunting High And Low, Train Of Thought, Stay On These Roadas, Scoundrel Days, The Swing Of Things, Cry Wolf, I've Been losing You, Manhattan Skyline, The Living Daylights and a HUGE etc.! ...Dereck should try at least 4 or 5 of them and I don't think he'd be disappointed with any at all!
A very great song indeed. You also should listen and watch the official video of A-ha's "Hunting high and low" 😉 Very great job Dereck. Encore ! Please go on.
This is not only one of my favourite a-ha songs, it's also one of my favourite 80s songs. But my absolute favourite of them will always be Manhattan Skyline because of its uniqueness. And Lifelines is the song I want to be played on my funeral...
They had a couple of good albums recently too. But this first album is my favourite still. They wrote complex melodies that were so darn catchy too. Most of A-HAs songs sound like this. Dramatic and dark but super synthy.
They have dozens of great songs, but I heartily recommend Hunting High and Low, Living a Boy's Adventure Tale, The Living Daylights, The Blood That Moves the Body and I've been Losing you. You won't be disappointed!

They are capable of so much! Each of their albums is different and unique. And yes that’s the original song.
I've had to come back and watch again I enjoyed your reaction so much! When I hear this I'm 15 years old,ice skating with my friends, singing at the top of our voices...
Amazingly good reaction Dereck! This song has it all!
A-HA is my first and real love among musical groups!!! Thank you so much!!! I can strongly recommend you their song "Hunting high and low".
my absolute favourite, beautiful song
I love you-you are just adorable and I am loving your reactions to songs that mean so much to me ♥️ You just might be my new favorite person to watch!
Oh goodness! A spine chillingly awesome piece of art this song 💗 A-ha have produced 10 brilliant albums since their debut, plus 6 solo albums from the lead singer Morten Harket during this time. I'm a big fan so I find it difficult to pick out favourites, but.... I can guide you to "I Call Your Name" 1990, ""Summer Moved On" 2000, "Lifelines" 2003, "Objects in the Mirror" 2016, "I've Been Losing You" 1986..... then Morten's "Brother" 2014, "Lightning" 2012, "Jungle of Beliefs" 1999 💗 There's just sooo many 😀
I suggest other hits from A-ha like "Hunting High and Low" and with "Cry Wolf"
Great choices
"Hunting High and Low" is a 1980s masterpice!
Bonjour dereck, merci pour la réaction et les commentaires de cette chanson.jai tjr autant la chair de poule quand j'entend la voix de morten .😍👍😘
It is such a joy watching you react to so many songs I grew up with, it’s like a warm journey down memory lane…..
No one on RUclips has yet reacted to the title cut of Scoundrel Days. A truly epic song, one of their best! That is my recommendation for you! Greetings from Norway. You have grown to be my fav music reactor. Keep up the good work!
Scoundrel days is one of my favorite song from A-ha. This song is so powerful!
I agree. This song showcases Morten's vocal talents.
Agreed. In fact all the album has marvelous songs (except Cry Wolf which is… alright). My favorite track from this one is « Manhattan Skyline », epic break in this song.
Yeedeed has reacted to it, and a few days ago HBK Luke did as well.

Got my first CD player as a Christmas present in 1985 and A-ha’s Hunting High and Low CD was one of my first. Must have played this well over a hundred times - and loud. Love your reaction.
One of their best songs, another VERY underrated song of theirs is 'Lifelines'.
Oh yes, definitely. "Lifelines" is one of their best after their comeback. I've also always liked "Velvet" a lot, just to name one other song after their comeback.
Ahhh 'lifelines'... sigh
My Sister knows the guys who made the short film which the video is based upon.
Amazing song, great band. One of the top of the 80's.
you are just scratching the surface of the greatness of a-ha. So many great albums and songs. hunting high and low, the living daylights, stay on these roads, crying in the rain, dark is the night for all, summer moved on, velvet, forever not yours, and lifelines to name a few, are some of their best songs but they have so many, many more.
Yes! I always loved this one and Manhattan Skyline! They were so talented and I miss hearing them on the radio.
A-ha... The best ! Never get old.
An Amazing Song!
My favorite song from my favorite band (A-ha)!
Great reaction, cool video and awesome song 👍👍
I remember, this great intro of this hit title was the credits of the MTV channel 🤔
Thank you for appreciating the genius of this song. Everyone knows “Take On Me” but this one…wow. It’s a musical masterpiece. I wish more people would dig deeper into a-ha and see they’re capable of so much more than the one hit.

@@Eric_s_Channel That's actually my "short list". I could think of many more ^_=
A true fan...
@@Megrez-Alberich I like how you think! They've an embarrassingly good catalogue.
I see I am not the only one who owns all studio albums!👍😀I love this band. They are number 5 in my Top 10!
A-ha are so cool and truly underrated.
Please listen to Stay On These Roads by them.
Their music is so heart-warming.
Favorite
the 3 members of a-ha grew up listening to bands like the doors and Jimmy Hendricks, morten was a blues singer.
Absolutely agree - 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' is still my favorite A-ha somg. But, have a look at their recent great song - 'True North'!
I love their song Summer Moved On. Their Bond Theme is pretty good as well. The Living Daylights
A very great song indeed. You also should listen and watch the official video of A-ha's "Hunting high and low" 😉
Very great job Dereck. Encore ! Please go on.
Brilliant reaction
2024,Amazonas,Brasil.
A primeira vez que ouvir essa música 🎶eu estava na estrada br.E foi algo impressionante. 😊
This is not only one of my favourite a-ha songs, it's also one of my favourite 80s songs. But my absolute favourite of them will always be Manhattan Skyline because of its uniqueness. And Lifelines is the song I want to be played on my funeral...
Great track, Great album👍
The intro is legendary just like your reaction! ❤
Loved your reaction, these are the sounds of my teen years.
Ah Derek, your reaction to this has made my day!I bought their album at 15 years old and still play it at 50.The entire album is brilliant.
This and the the song Take on me is a brilliant 80s tunes and a fantastic album too.
Sweden gave the world ABBA....Norway gave us AHA. ...agnetha and morten, the most beautiful people that walked the earth.....
hunting high and low, cry wolve... there are so so many wonderful songs of a-ha, you need to discover
Too funny Dereck's reaction! Here what's happening when the music is so good! 👍👍👍🏆🌠
Epic, brilliant and one of the best songs ever made ! Greets from germany !
A-ha .. 💗🎶💗🤩🔥🎶💗😍🥳🖖🏻.
You won't be disappointed!
my old friends bday is Nov17 and mine is May16
