    You are not the only one the changes their mind while turning. Actually you have one up on me, I don't even know what shape I want before I start! Since I turn firewood I get the piece round first then I get an idea. I start making that idea and don't like the way it looks and change it. I may do that 3 or 4 times and the piece may actually end up being firewood!!!!!

    Question Patty for you
    I have a beginner's woodlathe, belt drive and find the lathe sluggish. To the point of stopping mid cut and then starting again. Hence chisel bites and destroys a bowl. More people are asking for bowls and vases and I'm hesitant in using the lathe.
    Do you think I should move up to an electronic lathe for better control?

    • @PFWoodturning
      @PFWoodturning  4 года назад

      Hi Andrew. If your budget will allow, I would upgrade to a newer lathe, yes. Without knowing your exact setup, it's hard to say. However, it sounds like it would be the right way to go. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! Just a quick safety FYI... From the video it looks like the thrust bearing on your bandsaw needs to be moved closer to the blade. The blade has far too much backward movement when you're pushing a piece through the saw, and the thrust bearing is designed to keep that from happening... Thanks, V

    One tip adjust the bandsaw guide to just above the top of your piece. Safer and less hard on equipment.

    Loving your pieces and how descriptive you are as to the how/why. This may be an annoying question, but im new to wood turning...... Why do you use each paste/wax/coating etc? I'm having trouble locating articles for how long to store, what to coat and why. Could you drop a link or something for me?

    • @PFWoodturning
      @PFWoodturning  4 года назад +1

      Hi Cody. Thanks for watching. The finishing part can be confusing. A good rule of thumb is after sanding and cleaning off dust, apply sealer. Then when that dries, it's really a myriad of things that you can finish with. I like the Ack's sanding and polishing paste myself. I don't have an article or link at hand, but if you live near a Rockler or Woodcraft, the staff are very helpful with any questions. They also offer classes at very reasonable prices. Another possibility is to join your local Woodturning (AAW) chapter. If you go to the AAW (American Association of Woodturners) website, you can find your closest chapter. Hope this helps, if I come across an article, I will be sure to forward you the link. Cheers and Happy turning!
