I'm calling this the Martian bowl because the Coolibah burl reminds me of the martian landscape featured in the film "the Martian".

Another stunning piece. Just goes to show that putting in the hours and quality tools and materials bring superior results -- in the right hands!
Your naming of the bowl is precisely appropriate, too: as soon as I saw the bumpy side of the blank (technical term, that!) I thought of Mars, and silently begged you not to turn too much of it away! And you didn't, being a discerning creator type!
That finished object is very beautiful indeed. I salute you!

Thank you so much, Jim for another great video. I like Australian burrs very much and have turned several species. The one thing they seem to have in common is that the chips come off like shrapnel. It's the only wood were I have to wear gloves. I can only imagine that this is due to the dry Australian climate. I'm also grateful for your reference to Mars. My wife thinks I should be on the first manned journey to the red planet....I'm not sure why!

I'm normally not a big fan of resin projects: there is already too much plastic in the world - but this bowl is stunning. Really gorgeous.
Thank you very much. Yes I agree with you on plastic which is one of the reasons that I go to so much trouble with my mould making so as to use the minimum amount of resin possible, it’s cheaper too !

Yes, Jim's back with another top notch creation. The typology of burl is really interesting, they sometimes look like mountain ranges and sweeping sand dunes, it's so cool you kept as much as possible.

I couldn't get to the Yandles show, but did get to the Record Power demo days at Stiles and Bates, and picked up a Coronet Herald like yours in the vid. I bloody love mine!! Your amazing bowl is inspiring me to investigate resin!
