      Honestly I think in this case (and several others but not all the time obviously) it adds to the intensity of the music (if not forced). It makes the overall experience more genuine to me and although my favorite recording of Moanin is on Blues and Roots this one is amazing as well.

    This solo is absolutely monstrous. The starting lick that’s solely chromatic REALLY draws you into it by the groovy rhythm and the jazzy harmony of the chromaticism. And the “failed altissimo notes” add an incredible amount of tension to the ending. Almost like they were meant to be failed. Love it.

      Nice work on the transcription but a question though, What does L.D. mean? ( its on the first page of the score above the Ab)

    • @SharpElevenMusic
      @SharpElevenMusic  5 лет назад +4

      Hey Nathan, L.D. means Lip Down (lower lip), actually playing just a bit with a flat intonation, this being done by giving less pressure with the lower lip (but really keeping a good airsupport with your diapraghm, otherwise it will sound very shaky it you may even fail to produce te note). Hope this helps

    • @slightlybasic2431
      @slightlybasic2431 5 лет назад +3

      I use a high G fingering that's just front F but you take off the middle finger. Honestly altissimo is mostly about overtones, so start practicing those if you want to get really nice sounds out of the horn.

    • @sinisterniik
      @sinisterniik 5 лет назад +2

      @@slightlybasic2431 That's super helpful! I'll give it a shot when I'm at my horn.
      I've got different fingerings I use for that G. On my alto, 1-3-4-6 +octave sings in tune. On my tenor, 1-3-4-RH high F# +octave is best. I honestly don't usually go that high on bari.
      Altissimo is wacky.

    • @slightlybasic2431
      @slightlybasic2431 5 лет назад +1

      @@sinisterniik Yeah altissimo really is weird. I can still only play F#, G and for some reason D, which is why I'm practicing overtones to make it work. I guess I just got lucky I had been using a fingering that worked for learning this song.

      one way to play high g, if you have an f sharp key, hold the front f and the f sharp, thats how i get a high g on my tenor. though not convenient for switching from gfd gfd and etc.

      Hi Ian, that's to indicate a so called "false fingering", where you take an alternate way of fingering the same note. In this case you'd have to play F with the front key, and to get the alternate fingering sound you press 123 in the right hand. Go back and forth a bit and you'll hear a clear etxture shift between two F's up there.
      Hope that helps,
