  • Today we are playing a beautiful Martin CEO-7 acoustic guitar. With an Adirondack spruce top and mahogany back and sides, this guitar excels at finger-style and warmer bluesy strumming. Let us know what you think of the sound in the comments!
    As always, the aim of the recording setup has been to capture the natural sound of the instrument; the sound from good quality speakers or headphones should be an accurate representation of the acoustic sound in the room. No processing is added to the recording.

    I bought a CEO-7 last year after a right rotator cuff repair. My HD-28 was impossible to play 6 months post-op, causing me to look at smaller body guitars. My search covered the Gibson L-00, LG-2, the Martin 000’s and 00’s. The CEO-7 was the clear winner for me. I’m now 14 months post-op and can now play my dread for short periods but the CEO-7 gets the vast majority of my attention. Great guitar. I can see that the dread will be used for jamming with bluegrass people and my CEO-7 for everything else.

      Hi Robert, I had a similar time choosing mine, played a 000-18, a couple of OM-21s and an Atkin essential OM. I didn't really consider the gibson options even though I've got a few gibsons and love them, I think it had to be a Martin for me. I understand what you mean about using the dread for Bluegrass jams, volume / projection is maybe not the strongest in a guitar this size. I'm glad you're enjoying it and hope your shoulder is healed now. - Ed

    A few years ago my local guitar shop had two Martin CEO 7s in stock, one was used, the other new. I was very surprised to hear that they sounded profoundly different from each other. The new one had an incredible lower midrange 'bloom' when you strummed an open or barre chord, with very long sustain; overall it was lovely, and unexpected from most 00s you hear. The very slightly used one (it looked brand new) didn't have this bloom, and overall had a very consistent and pleasant tone, but nothing to write home about. If the used one, which was approximately 900 dollars less than the new one, had possessed that bloom, I would have bought it right away, but unfortunately it was the new one, which was just out of my price range at the time.
    Anyway, I still think of that lovely CEO-7 that 'got away', and hope that someday I might just find the right deal on one that has that elusive 'blooming' tone, which makes it sound so much more complex and bigger than a 00.

      @signal_to_noise  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's interesting. I played this one against a new one at the time as well as some other new Martins, an Om21 and a 000-18 and this one came out on top regardless of price (which was lucky as it was 2/3rds of the cost of the others).
      I've seen a few of the Waterloo Guitars and really like the look of them but for the amount I play acoustic, even one nice acoustic is an extravagance I find hard to justify so I'll probably never have one. Thanks for watching.
      Ed.

      This is why I probably wouldn’t order a $3k guitar off the internet. 😂. I want to go around and play a few different ones. I’ve played one particular CEO 7 quite a few times and it was amazing. Had the bloom. Had the bottom end with being woofy. So articulate. Played like the easiest thing I’ve ever picked up. I don’t do credit cards so I’ll just have to wait. ❤

      @@signal_to_noise Yep, fair to say I love the 7, considering I have the same strings on my 000-28, the same scale length, they are really different.
      The sound when you 'dig' in is surprising, so much sound from such a small body, yet it sounds sublime when played quietly (which I mainly do).
      Your video really does show this instrument beautifully, but be assured they are nearly as mellow out of the box when brand new too.
