    0-18 for me. Maybe I'm biased. I played an old one recently and I fell in love with it immediately. Listening to this I can hear why I loved it so much.

      I've played an 0 once loved it. Played a 00-18 in California and again in Utah, both times one of my favorites. In this video I have to concur the 0-18 is my favorite. If only it had the colors of the ceo7 or a good 1935 burst lol.

      Hey Justin - Glad you're enjoying your ceo too! I really can't say enough about this guitar - I was a little hesitant with the v-neck at first, but it continues to grow on me. Since I brought it home from Music Villa, this has been my go to guitar whenever I have a few moments to play, and in these work from home days, it's routinely in my lap in between emails and zoom meetings!

    great vid. Very helpful for my quest to replace my current small body guitar. AND...most important - - affirmation for my enjoying the dead strings. I play my strings until they won't hold tune anymore. I play with tunes and tones specific for the vibrant new strings. As they dull I have other styles and maybe plug in now and then. Dead is to bang out my groove practicing and percussive roots-style music. Really work on chocking out the tone and palm muting....somehow brings out the best of my current small body

    Great video, I have a HD-28 and a D-18 . I craving a smaller body style to complete my Trio. The Taylor 811e looks so much bigger. For my taste I would rule out the 018 but it would be hard to choose between the others.

    I think listening back to the timestamps I prefer the 0-18
    It's not the loudest guitar but like the guild m20 they had in stock locally (which I surprisingly preferred over it /)*(\ just a bit 😆 that particular day) it's got something special going for it. I currently own an m20 but would be happy with either once the spruce opens up for sure.

    My Martin O-18 I had my luthier changed the bleached bone nut and saddle and ebony wood bridge pins. Installed the unbleached cow bone nut and fossil walrus ivory saddle and fossil walrus jawbone bridge pins. The tonal palette is awesome, clarity, sustain, fatter trebles, better harmonics and the colours and flavors of each note on fretboard are more superb. I am so glad that I had my luthier make the changes. When strumming heavy it does not bottom out. And fingerstyle is outstanding! Someone ask is that a Martin 0-42 custom? I said no just made a few changes on 0-18 for the better. I also had the LR Baggs Anthem installed.

  • @mrfuzztone

    I still have my Martin 0-42 sunburst that I bought off the Music Villa web site in 2013. A great small body guitar.
    I have acquired 8 vintage 0-18's 1923, 1927, 1939,, 1943, 1949, 1951, 1952, 1968 They all sound different. All great.
    And I have a 14 fret custom shop Martin 0-45 Alpine spruce/Madagascar (TME) and a 1931 0-21 (this one everybody loves).
    I guess I like 0's. I have several other Martin guitars (24 total) such as a 14 fret 00-45 (Music Villa 2013), 1946 00-18 and a great sounding OM-42. No big D guitars.

  • @WoodworkerDan
    @WoodworkerDan 3 года назад +2

    I am so glad you are talking about the amplification and hope you will do more of that in the future. I know you guys go out and play gigs, so I trust what you say. I have the no-frills K & K on a couple of guitars. It is very reliable, puts out a lot of signal, but sounds a bit quacky. I sometimes run it through a Fishman Aura and that helps, but I'm wondering if there are other options.

    • @quintonking9960
      @quintonking9960 3 года назад +1

      Hi Dan - does your setup have the condenser mic too? With the setup I have, if I dial the mic all the way down so that it's just the bridge plate transducers, I can virtually eliminate any risk of feedback, but the guitar sounds pretty lifeless - almost like a telecaster. Just a little condenser mic in the mix transforms it back into a genuine acoustic sound (at least to my ears). If you don't have the condenser, I wonder if that's something that might be added? (honestly don't know . . .)

    • @WoodworkerDan
      @WoodworkerDan 3 года назад

      @@quintonking9960 Hi Quinton. No, I do not have the condenser mic. I didn't realize that it was an option until I saw your video. I'm playing just from bridge plate transducers, which is great because I get a strong signal and don't have feedback issues, but now I"m trying to tweak the tone and I'm dealing with the issue that you described. I had a condenser mic on a previous pickup (a Fishman) and really liked it, so now I'm thinking that my best bet is to upgrade from my current K & K to the one you have. Thanks for the advice, and I hope you'll keep sharing your thoughts about what does and does not work when you're out playing gigs.

      Regarding amplification, I recently purchased a Fishman Loudbox Performer. I've got around 14 acoustic guitars that have electronics/pick-ups (LR Baggs stage pro element, LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole, Fishman Presys, Fishman Classic 4T, Fishman MX1, Taylor ES2, and others). I've been incredibly impressed with the sound quality, EQ, multiple effects, and other features of the Fishman Loudbox amp. I'm not sure I can accurately describe how well it represents each of my guitars, but I will say the amp is definitely worth checking out! It has a separate knob for the tweeter, so I can turn it all the way off or even louder than normal. The amp handles enough bass that my acoustic baritone guitar sounds really beautiful through its speakers.. as well, it's impressive to use one of the channels for vocals (separate control over effects and EQ, Phantom power, etc). Both channels have a phase button and an anti-feedback knob.. I've surprisingly been able to crank the volume to about 65-70% and use a nice condenser microphone while playing acoustics with little to no feedback issues, and be about 10ft away from the front of the amp!

    Can I get the whole box of chocolates? I mean guitars? I have a used CEO-7 and Music Villa Custom Shop Martin 00-28 12 fret. They both sound great for singing different songs. The 00-28 would be my first choice but the Taylor GT 811e is really a nice sound. I traded a Gibson L-00 Deluxe because it sounds like a Gibson and my voice changed. Things to note: neck scale is a bit different on each and neck profile also differs. Another option is strings, dead or otherwise. So to my earphones, first 00-28, CEO-7, Taylor 811e, Gibson L-00 Deluxe and 0-18. Or any you're giving away. Thanks Quinton and Paul.
