OH MY GOODNESS! This is so good. I made it last night and it turned out GREAT. I didn't have all the items in the video. I used some left over pizza sauce for the chipotle and tomatoes paste and yellow onion (I had no red onions😑).
Everything else I had. It turned out so good. We had homemade savory Millet garlic bread. This definitely a new addition to our rotation 😊
Thanks a lot.
This is so great to hear! Thank you so much for letting me know and I’m glad you were able to use what you had on hand. That garlic bread sounds fantastic! Glad to hear this one will be in the regular rotation 😊
Making this tonight!
Awesome!! 🙌 Let me know how you like it!
yummmmmmm this popped up on my explore page now im hungry!!!! LOOKS DELICIOUS
Oh nice! Haha sorry for making you hungry but also not sorry 😜 this one is in our regular rotation for sure 😁

OMG this looks so delicious!! And I can't believe I have all these things at home. Well, I have green lentils, but still! 😋 Thanks!
Awesome! I’m so glad to hear that! Just keep an eye on your lentils as they’re cooking in case the green lentils need a slightly longer cooking time or a tiny bit more broth! Let me know how you like it 👍🏼

You mention a nut free version of this recipe, but I do not see a link! Did I miss it somewhere? Great video and I will add to my must try recipe list!
Oh thank you! I make suggestions for making this recipe without nuts in the main recipe card actually. Just click the ragu recipe link below and when you’re on the blog post just scroll to the notes section of the recipe card. You can certainly omit the nuts in this recipe and just decrease the broth a bit or I make suggestions for other veg, protein, or ground seeds you could add. Let me know if you try it with a substitution and how you like it!
Looks very good
Thank you! 🥰 It's been a go-to for us lately during this SUPER cold stretch!

Here from Reddit. I really love lentils since they're shelf stable and I don't have to worry about beef going bad in the refrigerator. Thank you for the recipe!
Awesome! That’s what I love too! I always have dried lentils, chickpeas, beans in my pantry - makes for a quick meal! Thanks for checking it out and coming over 🥰
Thank you! Everyone else is saying don’t use red lentils.
Oh how come? I love red lentils and use them all the time. They are so quick cooking and versatile!
Thank you #SaveSoil #Consciousplant
You’re welcome!
Awesome recipe! We all really enjoyed this. As new vegans it was an easy transition recipe.
Would you consider doing a decadent cashew Lasagna and lower calorie maybe cashew/veg mix recipe for lasagna ? Kinda like what you did with you spinach dip recipe?? I’m thinking a recipe like this is out there but, I’m haven’t seen it? Thanks for the great ideas!
So glad you all liked this one! Thank you for trying it and letting me know. These are great ideas for a lasagna. It’s definitely on my list to create for this year. I like the more decadent plus a lower cal version suggestion. I’ve done many lasagna tests and just haven’t found the right balance between flavour, simple preparation and costliness but I’ll keep working on it for sure! My mom makes a veggie one from the blog “Cilantro and Citronella” that she finds easy to make and it’s tasty. You can take a look at that one in the meantime for a lower cal veggie option!
Can’t wait I will be looking out for more to come!
🥰
I'm so excited to try this and love that you have alternatives in using cooked or canned lentils! I don't eat meat sauce but something about meat sauce looks so appetizing and your recipe looks so yummy! Also love your videography and camera work, super high quality!
I was checking your website, and so if we are using cooked/canned lentils, we use 3 cups instead of the 1 of dry lentils? Thank you!
Oh thank you so much for the compliments ❤️ I’m so glad this looks like one you want to make! And yes I tend to use 3 cups cooked lentils but feel free to use 2 - 3 cups depending on how chunky you like the sauce. Sometimes canned lentils only have the equivalent of 2 cups so that’s fine and you can just add more or less tomato sauce to reach your desired consistency!
@@TastyThriftyTimely Thank you so much for the quick reply! I made it with around 2 cups and I think it was perfect. So amazing! My husband, who is not vegan/vegetarian, had it with me and he was so stoked he said he smelled amazing and looked/tasted like his fav Skyline Chili. :) thank you for the recipe - I'm gonna need to have the self control of not making it every week!
Oh great! Thank you so much for trying it and letting me know it worked well with the cooked lentils! I’m so glad you both liked it. I’m sure it was a typo that your husband said “he” smelled amazing haha but if he did that’s fantastic because lentils can definitely create the opposite effect 😂
Just wondering, why add the walnuts? What do they do? I don’t have them so not sure if it’s worth an extra trip to the supermarket?
The walnuts help to thicken the sauce and they add a really nice toasty and nutty flavour to the sauce but you definitely don’t need to make a special trip to the supermarket for them. I have a note at the bottom of the recipe card on the blog with some ideas for making it without the walnuts. You can omit them entirely and just use a bit less broth so the sauce isn’t too runny or you can add something else in for a bit of texture like some grated carrot, crumbled tofu or even just a couple tablespoons of another ground nut or seed (like flaxseed). Let me know what you try and how it works out for you!
@@TastyThriftyTimely perfect I have flaxseed and carrots so I’ll try one of them! Thanks for getting back to me so fast! I’m literally about to start this dish! Much appreciated!
@@LyraDavis oh great! Enjoy! I’m glad I caught you before you started 😊
@@TastyThriftyTimely popped back 3 hours later to let you know I made it and it’s a 10/10 from our family! Both boys cleaned their bowls. I used carrots in the end and they worked great and I topped it with nutritional yeast. It was bloody lovely!
@@LyraDavis woohoo! I’m so glad everyone loved it and you liked the carrots! Thank you so much for letting me know 🥰 it means so much!
😮don't heat your walnut or any nuts...lose its nutritional value!
The nuts can be omitted or ground raw and added when serving if preferred. Roasting them at a lower temperature and adding them into this dish near the end (at a low simmer) can decrease the high temperatures and cooking time which could offer more protection from any damage to the healthy fats they provide. I do love the flavour that the nuts provide in this dish but they can certainly be omitted and you will still have a tasty meal 😌
