  • We are crossing off a BIG item on our bucket list in this video! During our trip home for the holidays Tim and I were able to sneak away for a small road trip. We rented a car for the day and drove 3 hours from Saint Louis to Marceline, Missouri. It was a peaceful drive as we discovered just HOW small the town was and how remote this area of Missouri is. We explored the original Main Street, USA where Walt Disney's vision for the main hub at Disneyland and Walt Disney World derived. We took a tour through the Walt Disney Hometown Museum and bought some fun souvenirs. We even went inside the local toy store and imagined what it was like for Walt to grow up here at a small boy being raised on a farm. But I think the most pure moment on the trip was walking out to the barn behind the family farmhouse. It was a whole feeling that really sealed the day for us. To be standing where the fountain of dreams began...and to walk the same path as the ultimate storyteller...was indeed, magical. We definitely want to come back...but probably when its warmer ;) Thanks for joining us on our adventure!

      Did you get to have lunch anywhere on Main Street? We didn’t have time this visit but I’m planning on going back someday. It was so cute!

    Love this. You were there the Saturday before I was there to do historical preservation stuff.
    Wish we could have met up.
    You didn't check out the Uptown Theatre. It's where 2 Disney movies premiered, one in 1956 amd a other in 98. I got it on the National Register of Historic Places last year. 1st place in town on the Register.
    The toy store you went into, I'm trying to get that on the Register too. The Masonic Temple you parked next to to get the Coke wall pic is another one I'm working on, as is that small building next to the library and across from the museum and Ripley is going on the Register too, soon.
    Love the barn! I don't know if I can find my name anymore!
    The depot that houss the museum isn't the same one Walt arrive to town through or left town for KC.
    Anyhoo, glad you got there! Next time, if we're able meet up, to hot chocolate or coffee at Café Marceline next to the theatre is on me. 😀

      Oh dang! We JUST missed you then. We talked about it after I finished the video and we agreed we want to go back (when it’s warmer 😆) I also realized I didn’t show the theatre on camera either 🫣 Next time we drive up there I’ll reach out to you to see if you’ll be around. That sounds awesome! These are such great little pieces of info. Thank you for sharing!
      I also noticed that cool badge by your name 😉 Thank you and welcome to the Frontline! 🇺🇸 You’re the best!

      @@battlegroundbiscuits Yup. I joined officially. Gotta support other military folks whenever possible. 😀 Keep up the great work!
      We're back in SoG in February for FARTS. Are you all going down for that festival?

      @@DASPassDad you’re awesome! 👏🏼 Thank you!
      We were just discussing FARTS 😂 The festival kind 🤣 I’d love to go if we can manage to get a few days together. Tim will need to check his leave and see what’s left after the holidays. I’ll see when Story has a day or two off school. I hope we can make it!

    Also, not that it really relates to tgis video,but Marceline was created solely out of necessity. The Atchison, Topeka, Santa Fee RR needed a subdivision point beyween KC and Ft. Madison, Iowa as they made a line to Chicago. They stuck a pin in a map (oversimplifying the explanation, obviously) and that became Marceline... about 3 months after the ATSF designated it a subdivision point for the trains.

      Wow! That kind of explains how remote the area is. Do you know how long before the Disneys moved there that it was created?

    • @DASPassDad
      @DASPassDad 7 месяцев назад

      It was established in 1888. Walt and his family didn't move there until 1906. They went there because they had family in the area.
      Did you get a piece of Walt's Dreaming Tree while at the museum?

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  7 месяцев назад

      @@DASPassDad no we didn’t get to buy any 😫 I saw the piece on display at the museum but I didn’t notice that there were pieces for sale in the gift shop!

      It’s definitely worth a day trip! I’ve heard that others have flown into Kansas City and drove 2 hours to Marceline from there so that’s an option too…but then you couldn’t get Imos 😉

      Same here in OK. I did find their brand of cheese at a local grocery store though so I make homemade pizzas with that. Still not quite the same but it will do.

      @@Momfueledbycoffeeoh wow! I’m actually surprised you found it in OK! That’s awesome. I guess that makes sense though…I went to college in Springfield and I used to buy the cheese when I was there…and OK wasn’t THAT far from there. Ugh I’m so jealous lol Sometimes I just crave a simple salad with that cheese, black olives and the house dressing 🤤

    Santa Fe 5008 is a SD40 Diesel electric locomotive, not steam. It has a history in the area.
