Yes the express café needs to be open longer. Great food great service Java Café upstairs has the homemade ice cream. Wish they would consider a Shade of Green Cup , just don’t know where they could put the refill station 😊
I agree, I have always been able to get coffee no issues in the morning, but I would love to be able to get iced coffee later at night during rest days.
Next time you’re there ask why they are still charging for self parking when Disney resorts stopped the practice last year. I did and was told “It’s a rule we have”. Serving those who served? I don’t think so.
@@bubsmp without asking I would assume because they are owned by the DoD. Disney doesn’t dictate what Shades does or doesn’t do. Hale koa Hotel (also DoD owned) in Hawaii also charges for their parking but it’s $22 per day instead of $17 at Shades. 🤷🏼♀️ It stinks that we have to pay but I still feel like the price of the rooms (no fees or taxes), proximity to Magic Kingdom, deluxe resort early entry benefits and complimentary shuttle service helps.
@@battlegroundbiscuits Great point on no fees and taxes. I felt like I got the run around because when they started I was told “although not a Disney property were on Disney property” so they had to follow suit. Then when Disney stopped but SOG kept it going I was told something different. Oh well, thanks for the response and again I didn’t factor in the taxes and fees part. Just found your channel, hope to see y’all out in “the field” one day.
@@bubsmp yea sometimes things aren’t communicated properly (or just could have been explained better). It happens. But yea, Shades falls under the AFRC and is completely self sustaining financially. They have a 100 year lease on the land through Disney but as far as the resort rules and pricing they get the final say. I’m glad you found us and hope the videos help! We would love to say hello if you happen to ever spot us around! We just got home from a trip yesterday but will be back again soon I’m sure 😊
We have our trip scheduled for January, and it’s 8 of us so this is a great video. I honestly don’t remember getting the passport but my wife did hear about it but we passed on it, wished we would have done this.
Wow am I getting some age, I remember the first time I went to Shades and it was still the old Disney Inn, there was a smallish parking lot to the left of the building and you walked in the front entrance and in that main hallway was where you purchased tickets, now it’s a wonderful resort and best value on Disney property. I’m thankful for the 100 year lease so at least I can enjoy in my lifetime.
I would have loved to see it and appreciate it back then! But we will surely document our stays now so that we can look back at our visits and appreciate how far it has come in future years ahead :)
No meal plans except for the breakfast buffet plan that is offered sometimes. It’s for the garden gallery breakfast buffet and it saves you 10% BUT you have to add it on for every day of your stay and include every person on your reservation. If you plan on utilizing the garden gallery breakfast everyday for your family then it’s a great deal! If not, you would be better off passing on that. We love the garden gallery breakfast though so even if you don’t do the breakfast plan you should totally try it one morning. ☺️
Happy Sunday yall! J is fantasizing over the chocolate chip Minnie pancakes 🤤 Does SOG still let you use the STAR card for dining? One a different note, pre corona, wasn’t the DDP available to us separately from a room reservation at Disney? I could’ve swore it was $300 per a 5 day trip 🤷🏻♀️ They say they don’t have that anymore 😕
Story let me have an ear off her pancake and it was really good! I may get my own next time 😜 They told me that they no longer allow you to use the Star card for dining 😩 I think it has something to do with their contract but I didn’t ask or dig any deeper. You CAN still use it for your room though. As far as the DDP…we never used it. So I can’t speak to what they used to do. It’s just never been something that we would have benefited from. Maybe someone else will see this and answer though 😊
Sorry, just getting back to some comments! That shirt with the bright purples and teals was purchased at a store but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. It’s a military themed shirt. If you look closely you’ll see gun patterns hidden in the design. There are a few brands that make these. I’ll see if I can find a link and share it 😎
Hello....quicl question maybe you know answer to....Next week we will be in FL and going with grandson to DOwntown DIsney......question is.....Can we go into SoG to peek around and get something to eat ??? (Not staying over)))...Husband is a veteran.....PS we will be going in fall here to stay but curious to look around ....Thanks for any ideas!!!!
So far as I know, yes you can go in and look around, they will ask you at the guard shack for some kind of I.D. Also Shades sells tickets for Orlando attractions and theme parks just not Disney so you can go to Shades just to purchase tickets and not have to be a guest. I haven’t been in a while so I’m sure Battleground Biscuits can clarify better than me.
I believe until supplies last or until the end of the anniversary year (2024) if they still have coins. You can always call and ask ahead of time or just confirm when you're checking in :) Hopefully you'll get to participate since you're trip is so soon! Have fun!
TBH, for 6 meals as a family, that’s not too bad. There are definitely times/places that families spend that much on 1 meal. I know we have as a family of 4. Thank you for showcasing all of the food options. Do you know if this going on for the rest of the year or only for a limited time?
You know, you’re absolutely right! We have spent just over $200 before one one meal for the 3 of us. Which is nutso 😵💫 They have said that this challenge will be available as long as supplies last…but it also sounded like they had run out of the coins before and had more delivered? Maybe they will do it until the end of the year since they’re celebrating the anniversary all year 🤞🏼

A refillable cup would be amazing! I love that idea, Julie!

Great Vlog!
Great video Ashley! I do enjoy you and your family ♥
Thank you so much! (sorry for the delay...catching up on comments now ;)) We sure love having you here with us and appreciate you watching along!
Staying there for the first time in October! I hope this is still going on then!

Ohh and btw, you’re Ms. Ashley, story is story, Tim is just Tim. 🤭🙃
He really wants to meet you..
I love that shirt your husband is wearing at the beginning. If you bought that online, can you provide a link?

I'll try and get my coin when we go in Dec. for our 30-year wedding anniversary.
I love that! 30 and 30! I hope you get one 🥰
Do you know how long this challenge will be going? We will be there at end of June.
