The best Megadeth song in my opinion. It's like their business card showcasing everything they were about. If you want to introduce the band to someone who isn't familiar - go with this song for sure.

You nailed it. The tempo changes, the ten million riffs per song, the anger, the speed... this song epitomizes Megadeth. I wish they still wrote stuff like this. Of course, the production wouldn't be the same today.

At the time this was killer stuff and still is for some of us. The way Dave composed some of these tracks was refreshing against what was out there.

Ah man you got it all wrong, early megadeth is riffsalad. this track for example has 16 riffs. it starts slow and slowly becomes faster and faster. it didn't click for you, try it another time. i was like you at first.
and they don't make stuff like this anymore, this track specifically never have been covered correctly by any human being, specially the lead sections. mustaine and poland technical abilities were out of this world. black friday in my opinion is one of the first proto death metal songs, evil riffs, haunting atmosphere, chainsaw riffs and specially the lyrics.

The song is not supposed to be a standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus song because the song is about a maniac bludgeoning his victims to death with a hammer before cutting them up. It's frantic. Even at the end of the song, during the "Black Friday, paint the devil on the wall' the tempo is slowly increasing. Check out, for those of you who have not heard it, the early 3 member recorded Megadeth concert at Berkley in November 1984 with Junior and Gar but without Chris. Early versions of Good Mourning/Black Friday, Wake Up Dead and My Last Words from the second album were played. Great stuff.
Just a few notes on the solos... There are four. Chris Poland plays the first slower solo (or fills) at the beginning. Dave plays the next two shredding solos. The last solo is Chris. It is one of my favorite solos from Chris. The emotion at the beginning with the bends followed by the fluidity and speed of the notes which come next... gives me goose bumps even today.
Megadeth is my favorite metal band, has been for years. But I do listen to other bands. I mentioned them before, Celtic Frost. Early extreme metal. Check out 'Jewel Throne' from 1985. After the first three albums, the band went a different way, but their first three albums are good.

This song actually was written (musically) as an instrumental, it wasnt supposed to have singing, thats why it was a lot more complicated as a song, by having so many riffs. If you listen to the other songs in the album, they are a bit simpler, either verse chorus verse chorus, or either verse verse bridge verse chorus.
Although they do write songs with many many riffs in them in general, thats what they're known for.

Dude I really appreciate the honesty and respect.
I really like the way you view metal.
I'm a huge metal fan and guitarist myself
And I can see that we have totally opposite views in metal like for example what you said about this song how it has potential but it needs to be glued together its just riffs and solos. I can totally see that but in my perception that's the reason megadeth is my favorite band. I can also see how dave Mustaine's solos never go anywhere but I love that.
It's just so awesome to see others opinions being opposite from mine it really shows the inner self of a musician/metal head
    Thanks

Considering the song is about a man who gets possessed by a demon and goes on to do killings that are then called 'black friday'. It has progression, as if the demon is slowly possessing this man, and once it kicks into the heavy part its as if the demon is fully in control. Which really adds to the story, it shows how the song is able to tell a story by itself without lyrics, and the lyrics are like the icying on top.

Catchy predictable rhythms are ok. But when you get a chance to hear a song with chaotic mayhem that has structural meaning, you just have to appreciate the genius that it is.
Sometimes, as with this song, the music matches the meaning behind the lyrics.

A few stand out tracks you'd probably enjoy are Imperiled Eyes, Word Salad, Bloodbath, Ultra-Motion, Denied, Haunted (preferably the original), Demon Code, and The Trend. Other than them, a few other stand out bands are Metal Church (more simple yet never a let down), Overkill, Death Angel, Fear Factory, Rings of Saturn, Warbringer, and Havok, just to name some.

I think Megadeth catalogue is vast and littered with a revolving door of great musicians is probably one of the reasons you have many requests .There's fans from each era of Megadeth history who have their faves from each. So lets do something you like Opeth live at Red Rocks or Royal Albert Hall your choice! Surprise us brother. Hope the job works out. See you on the next one. P.S. Also, one of things that made this album great, when I first heard it , was the fact that it had songs that were ‘non-traditionally’ structured. Aren’t there enough songs that go Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Solo Bridge Verse Chorus?
