I remember I was the first to use Serato in my city back in the days, and every other DJ told me "Djing with a computer will never be the trend" ! You guys started a revolution
The guys from Simian Mobile Disco once showed me Final Scratch at a gig in Barcelona (Or Final Crash as we christened it...) - blew me away, i purchased but struggled with its unreliability then tried Scratch Live. Flawless! Been a loyal Serato user ever since. Changed the game. Respect.
i think thats why so many people doubted scratch live. i think the final scratch period would be a good part to go over for this doc because it was the first major project that djs of the time saw. I remember on of my first nice club gigs having it and my dj mentor trying to get it to work, which it did occasionally lol
Many people forget very quickly how game changing digital DJing was and has become. I myself was a vinyl purist til 2004 and never looked back once I got on Serato. I DJ 5 nights week today and it clearly wouldn't happen had I kept the old mentality. Big ups Serato!
I always admired everytime I watched DJ Waxxy on television, the scratching and the quickness & ease in song selections. Unfortunately I couldn't afford it but almost 10 years later managed to hook up a serato controller and the rest was history. You changed my life that's for sure. Happy 20th anniversary ❤👏🏾 well done #TeamSerato4Life
9:00 I was just like them, hating on digital music because I grew up spinning on vinyl. For years people had been telling me to get Serato but I was stubborn. I had so many excuses and thoughts like, I won't be a real DJ anymore, people will hate on me, and there was a feeling of betrayal to let my vinyl collection sit and collect dust. About a week ago I was on the Westside of the USA and I was finally able to mix using Serato and a Rane 72 Mixer. I was totally amazed. Even with me never using that mixer or the Serato software, it took me almost no time to get comfortable. Since 2001 I always have had one CDJ hooked up with my turntables to scratch with my own samples or to spin songs I couldn't get on vinyl. I recently added a CDJ3000. It was the first time I ever could mix fully digital with 2 CDJs. I took my USB stick with Recorkbox and my music to Phoenix, plugged it into the laptop with Serato and everything was there! Since I didn't have any playlist set up for Serato yet, I arranged the songs by year so all of the new digital music I had been buying for the CDJs would be grouped together. This was so much fun. When I got home I ordered the new Pioneer S11 Mixer and am now totally sold on Serato! I was always a decent DJ but over the years many DJs that used Serato were doing amazing things totally live and on the fly. The best thing about this experience is I really learned my lesson about being stubborn and rejecting new technology. I will now embrace new technology rather than being salty about it. Sure new DJs don't have to learn beatmatching the way we did, but the creativity many of these new DJs are bringing is awesome!
I remember saving for Stanton Final Scratch. Got to the local Sam Ash. The salesman told me he had a new product called Rane Scratchlive. He told me not to get the final scratch because he believed Rane's SL1 would be better. This was literally their first shipment. Never regretted that decision. Still have that box til this day. We came a long way with serato. Proud where they're at today. Still getting better too.
Wow didn’t know Serato been around 20 years! But not only nice so you don’t have to carry crates but you can preserve your rare records you collected. Many ways to look at it.
This us dope seeing this documentary and even more dope knowing that you witnessed the evolution of it the product as well. I jumped i on Serato back in 2007. I bought my first MacBook Pro and Serato at the same time. I still have my SL1 box. It’s funny because the Serato arrived first to my house before the laptop...so I ended having to do my first gig with a Dell desktop computer. I wished you could have seen me bringing an entire desktop to the club, let alone setting it up and DJing with it. I had a computer tower in the DJ booth. Lol 😂
I remember when I switched from the very first FinalScratch version with the round box that was working on a Linux partition, to Serato when it came out and finally being able to play with PC or Mac instead of Linux. Game changer for sure! #thanksserato
Nice! Happy 20. Love what u guys and gals have done & continue to do. As a dj/turntablist in a live band, making the switch was a no brainer. Now using and loving Sample as well. Big ups!! With that said...when and how can I join the team and become employed by Serato!? Ha
Serato dvs was a game changer for me in 2005 ... midi mapping all sorts of controllers.. digital track DL's grabbed 1 hour before a gig. Although it was a massive ball breaker for vinyl sales .....
I did a dj contest once and one of the judges came up to me and ask if I’m going to dj or let the computer do all the work?! Well I didn’t get far at that contest. 😆
I tried Torq first which was great, then Traktor which was also great but liked the simplicity of Serato best. I remember hearing about final scratch but had no idea it was an early Serato.
I was saving for Serato but my dad took the family laptop (with thousands of my songs on it) to be fixed. For some reason he told the guy to delete everything on the hard drive. Now I need to save for my own laptop & a Serato box & start from scratch 😢
I've been duped! This whole time I thought the founders of Serato were actual D.J.'s not college nerds! Well, thank you Serato for making all D.J.'s around the world save their backs from carrying crates of records and always thinking about the next level. I only wish Scratchlive was still being updated not "Legacy"
What a success story. There's a down part in all this : most of the scratch DJ I can see on the internet don't buy music anymore, the majority of them never bought a single track and lots of them just scratch youtube or soundcloud rip.
What is mixmaster mike talking about at 11:00, he said dj am told him that he did a show and didn’t have to pick up the needle once... that doesn’t even make sense, that’s impossible, the time code vinyl eventually ends in a couple of minutes, unless that was some super short 10 minute dj set done by dj am! Lol He probably meant he didn’t have to pick up the record to flip it over or switch the record. They should’ve edited that out of this cool documentary because it’s false and can be very confusing to someone who hasn’t used a Serato DVS system.
He possibly meant in terms of beat juggling and needledropping. When you tracking records you usually have to pick the needle up. Now you have markers.
@@DFONK .... I don't know about that man, I know what you mean about hitting the cue buttons instead of picking up the needle... but I think you're reaching far to try to make some sense of the comment. lol He specifically said "I did a show and didn't pick up my needle once and rocked it"... once again that's impossible because the control vinyl well end, whether you used your cue point or not, the only way to keep that record going is to physically pick up the needle and put it towards the beginning of the vinyl again... so I'm pretty sure he meant to say "I didn't pick up my vinyl once".
There’s no way I’d be able to be a career DJ if it wasn’t for Serato. Thank you!
I remember I was the first to use Serato in my city back in the days, and every other DJ told me "Djing with a computer will never be the trend" ! You guys started a revolution
Thanks for letting me be part of this project Fam! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Serato, on behalf of all og vinyl DJ’s, our backs thank you!
Can't wait for part 2 and 3!

Lol “let’s interview everyone at an RV camping spot” “brilliant idea!”
looks like those interviews were at Jazzy Jeff's annual "Playlist Retreat" at his home
@@StacksSats this. Which is sponsored by Serato
It's crazy to think that timecode vinyl is kind of old tech now because of innovations like Phase DJ and the new Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12.
2004 comprei um Sl1 e uso ele até hj !
The link for buy the book is NOT valid @serato
THANK YOU #CHEERS #ONELOVE
