The rear mat is a custom WeatherTech floor mat. There are indentations, but I had to cut out the holes to get to the tie-down points (I just did it with a box cutter). The roof basket is a MaxxHaul roof basket amzn.to/3taRjby I made a video of me putting it together too ruclips.net/video/FhYMceAhpbk/видео.html Hope that helps!!
i am only driver, size irrelevant 91 Octane is 10% more won’t break me as i only drive 550/month. Love torque of V8 without Turbos! @ $13,000 a year ago its better than my wife’s 2018 GX460 (mine 2006 with 218,415 odometer) She spent $60,000!
The only potentially disqualifying item on your list was the gas mileage. Another factor for me could be the reportedly high maintenance costs of a Lexus. I am seriously considering a 2003 through 2009 Lexus GX because of the low hip level center console between the front seats, which is so hard to find in most vehicles and which I think will make the driver's seat much more comfortable than the Highlander's, but I am having to get over the mental hump of buying a nearly 20 year old vehicle.
One thing you want to check on them is how rusty they are under the body. Some are way worse than others. As far as the mileage, I think they can easily be pushed to 300,000 miles and even 500,000 if they are taken care of correctly. The center console is low, but it is also very small too. The armrest comes off of the seat so you can use it if you choose to. I understand being weary of how old they are, but if you look at it from a mileage standpoint and not year made it can make the decision easier. I really need to make a 5 things I love about the Lexus video too haha.
@@AccidentalOverlander I will take your advice to examine any potential vehicles for rust when I go out to test drive this week. I live in the south, so rust is not something I ever think about on a car, but now that you have mentioned it, I think I heard someone else mentioned that these vehicles are particularly susceptible to rust. The number of miles is a hump for me too. I have set my price range at $15k, and in that price range, nearly every gx460 or 470 has more than 200,000 miles. These vehicles are extremely reputable, which is the reason I am considering one, but the age plus miles throws me a little. A five things you love video would be great. Two things are outstanding -- the sheer luxury and premium feel of the vehicle and the durability of its parts. Thanks for your feedback.
@@Tes7000 I live somewhat close to the ocean so the salt in the air can really create some rust over here. Of course, 5 years ago you could have found a great one for that price point. Times change fast though unfortunately. I have heard a few times that, when taken care of, they can last till 500,000. I also understand the hesitation in wanting to buy one that already has a lot of mileage on it. Hope the test drives go well and you find something incredible.
There are 3D printed phone holders, one on Etsy I've seen. I use a CD slot type with an extention thing so it comes up higher, Amazon.
Premium fuel is only recommended and not necessary, this engine is also in the Toyota Sequoia and Lexus lx470 and they take regular
Thank you! That is the kind of info I needed, especially with prices the way they are right now.
Are the rear seats easy to remove
Are you talking about the 3rd row? They are easy to put in and out. The third row is more for kids than adults honesty.
Hate is a strong word. I have a 2004 GX, so I relate to your list. Aftermarket support is poor.
You are right about saying I hate anything about the GX. But, it makes for a better title and thumbnail 😄
Compared to what?
Jeeps and 4Runners basically. Companies are making a lot more parts for the GX now.
Two questions: Where did you find that rear mat with the seat lock-in cut outs? Which roof basket is that?
The rear mat is a custom WeatherTech floor mat. There are indentations, but I had to cut out the holes to get to the tie-down points (I just did it with a box cutter). The roof basket is a MaxxHaul roof basket

Going to work and daily errands, how often do you have go to fill up your gas tank and total price of that?
I probably refill once every week and a half. I'm also the guy that starts getting nervous at a quarter tank haha
I use little sbosch magnetic mounts in my gx, works good to hold my phone
I've seen the metal mounts some companies make. But the magnet mount is a good idea too. Did you just put it right over the AC vent?
I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey that checks all of your gripe boxes. Want to swap cars ?
Haha, that was pretty funny. But you're right, it may be time to make a video on the 5 things I love about the GX.
Why would you buy a Lexus for camping? It's a luxury vehicle...
I didn't. I actually never even went camping up until a year ago. It's almost as if I discovered overlanding accidentally.
Not necessary, it is a Prado which is
Built for off road use
It's actually a true off-road vehicle.
For sure. It's getting me to some cool camp sites so far.
Didn't you inspect it before you bought it?? Some people just like to gripe.
Just trying to give a poor man's opinion on the subject, but I do love a good griping.

Love it!!! Keep treating it right and it will go another 250,000.

It's a serious off reader, not a mini van!
Yeah it really is
Sorry but, with a family of 4 you got the wrong vehicle
It's just about trial and error haha
You should got Sequoia
Never been inside of one. From the looks of them there is plenty of space inside.
When your ready to sell that horrid vehicle, let me know, I’m a buyer.
You'll be my first call 📞
