Curb weight is almost identical, wheelbase is only 2" different (GX is longer), third row seats work exactly the same, and much more. The only thing that has kept me from buying one of these in the past is they require premium fuel, which now in 2024 in some places costs a full $1/gallon more than regular unleaded. I bought an '08 Volvo XC90 AWD V8 instead which only "recommends" premium but doesn't require it. I add a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment about ever 3 or 4 tanks of gas and it runs great, in addition to getting decent mileage @ ~17mpg city/23mpg highway. Inside it compares well in terms of capacity & leg room as well. I'd definitely look at the GX470 much harder if not for the fuel requirement.

jim carson: I am preparing to buy a new vehicle in a couple of days, and I would love to get one of these, but the gas mileage is the one thing that gives me pause. Gas is fairly high right now, but there is a serious risk of gas prices going back up to maybe even unprecedented levels. Getting one of these vehicles in my price range means getting one with mileage in the high 100,000s or over 200,000 and any deferred maintenance that comes with that, plus gas costs that will be _at least_ 50% more than the other vehicles I am considering. I don't know about this.

FWIW - ABS and transfer case issues are rare. DO OIL SERVICES - every 50k. Common issues: wheel bearings and CVs (front). SAIS system *will* die - and you do the starter same time as it sits under that bullsh*t. Yes, big service every 90k, but whatever. Rear sir suspension WILL die. You replace w/ coils (and helper bags if you tow) - no big deal. Everything else is bulletproof.
